Process for the production of an optical brightening agent. The present patent relates to a process for the preparation of an optical brightening agent. The process is characterized in that 4-nitro-4'-amino-stilbene-2,2'-disitlfonic acid is acylated with a 2-thoxy-benzoyl halide,
then the nitro group of the stilbene derivative is reduced to the amino group and reacted with cyanuric halide and the halogen atoms of the triazine ring react with ammonia.
The new brightening agent obtained, the 4- [2 "', 4"' - diamino-triazinyl-amino- (6 "')] -4' (2" -ethoxy-benzoyla.mino) -stilbene-2,2'- disulphonic acid, is a yellowish powder and has a good affinity for cellulose. Example:
40 parts of 4-nitro-4'-amino-stilbene-2,2'-disulphonic acid are calcined in 800 parts of water with the addition of 10.6 parts. Soda dissolved and acylated at 0 to 5 with a 20% solution of 2- ethoxyl-benzovlehlorid in acetone with the addition of soda (lackmussauer to slightly brilliantly alkaline),
until a sample no longer contains any diazotizable amino groups. The disodium salt of 4-nitro-4 '- (2 "- ethoxy - benzoy lamino) - stilbene - 2,2' - distilfonic acid is salted out by adding 100 parts of sodium chloride and is converted directly to the fourth by Bechamp's method -Amino-4 '- (2 "- ethoxy-benzoylamino)
- stilbene - 2,2 '- disulfonic acid reduced.
25.9 parts of 4-amino-4 '- (2 "-ethoxy-benzoyl-amino) -stilbene-2,2'-disulphonic acid are dissolved in 800 parts of Nassex and 5.3 parts of soda ash neutral and at -2 to 0 mixed with an acetone solution of 9.25 parts of cyanuric chloride while stirring well,
whereby the reaction mixture is kept neutral to slightly acidic by the simultaneous addition of 15% soda solution. The reaction mixture, which has been kept neutral with soda, is stirred until primary amino groups are no longer detectable.
If diazotizable amino groups are still detectable even after prolonged stirring, a small amount is added again. Cyanuric chloride until the diazo reaction does not occur. The primary condensation product thus obtained is then mixed with excess aqueous ammonia and then heated to 90 to 100, the acetone being distilled off and recovered using a descending cooler. With the addition of ammonia, the mixture is kept clearly phenophthalein-alkaline at 90 to 100 for 11/2 hours, filtered hot and salted out with 100 parts of sodium chloride.
The disodium salt of 4- [2 "', 4"' - diamino-triazinyl-amino- (6 "')] -4'- (2" ethoxy-benzoylamino) -stilbene-2,2'-disulfonic acid obtained in this way forms a pale yellow powder and is suitable for lightening undyed cellulose fibers.
