Additional patent to main patent No. 23-7187. Process for the production of an azo dye. It has been found that a valuable azo dye can be produced if tetrazotized 3-oxy-3'-metlioxybenzidine is coupled on the one hand with salicylic acid and on the other hand with 1- (3'-aminophenyl) -3-methyl-5-pyrazolone,
the aminodisazo compound obtained is diazotized and coupled with 1- (4'-oxy-3'-carboxy-phenyl) -3-methyl-5-pyrazolone.
The new dye is a dark powder that dissolves in water with an orange-brown color, in diluted alkalis with a brown-red color and in concentrated sulfuric acid with a fuchsin-red color.
The 3-oxy-3'-methoxybenzidine required for the present process can be prepared according to the information in the main patent.
The tetrazotization of 3-oxy-3'-methoxybenzidine takes place in a known manner. The coupling of the tetrazo compound with the azo components mentioned above is conveniently carried out in two stages, such that first only one coupling with salicylic acid and then the further coupling with 1- (3 @ -aminophenyl) -3-methyl-5-pyrazolone causes. Both couplings are carried out in an alkaline medium, for example alkali carbonate or alkali hydroxide or both.
The diazotization of the aminodisazo compound can expediently be carried out in an indirect manner by, for example, acidifying an alkaline solution of the compound mentioned with the necessary amount of nitrite. The last coupling is also carried out in an alkaline medium.
Example: 5.75 parts of 3-oxy-3'-methoxybenzidine who are tetrazotized in the usual manner in the presence of hydrochloric acid with sodium nitrite. The clear solution of the tetrazo compound is at 5 with a solution of 3.46 parts of salicylic. acid and 6 parts of sodium hydroxide combined in 40 parts of water.
The mixture is stirred for 1/2 to 1 hour at 4/6, a solution of 4.73 parts of 1- (3'-aminophenyl) -3-methyl-5-pyrazolone and 2 parts of sodium hydroxide in A parts of water are added and the mixture is stirred for 1 hour at 10 ° -12 and 20-25 hours at 15-20. After blunting with hydrochloric acid, the disazo dye is filtered off and, with the addition of 2 parts of sodium hydroxide, dissolved in 400 parts of water at 50 ".
25 parts by volume of n-sodium nitrite solution are added to the solution of the dye. After adding 100 parts of ice, 65 parts by volume of 2N hydrochloric acid are poured in. The diazotization is complete after stirring for 25 hours at 10-15. The diazodisazo dye is deposited by adding sodium chloride and introduced as a moist paste into a solution of 5.85 parts of 1- (4'-oxy-3'-earl) oxyphenyl) -3-methyl-5-pyrazolone and 6 parts of sodium hydroxide 90 parts of water.
The mixture is stirred for 14 hours at 10-12 and the coupling is completed at 18-20. The trisazo dye is filtered off and dried.
