Process for the production of a new trisazo dye. The applicant has found that a new and valuable trisazo dye which dyes cotton in light bluish green tones and which develops on the fiber by diazotization and treatment with one of the customary developers, for example 1-phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone can be obtained
by coupling diazotized sulfanilic acid with 1-m-aminophenyl-3-methyl-5-pyra.zolon, diazotizing, coupling with 2.5-dimethoxyaniline, diazotizing again and adding 1-p-aminobenzoylamino-8-naphthol- 4-sulfonic acid couples.
<I> Example: </I> 30 parts of the sodium salt of the amino-azo compound, which is obtained by coupling diazotized sulfanilic acid with an equimolecular amount of m-aminophenyl-m-ethyl-pyrazolone, are in 1000 parts of water Dissolved at 10 to 15 C. 35 parts of 20% strength aqueous sodium nitrite are added and 38 parts of hydrochloric acid (specific weight 1.16) are added.
Then diazotization is carried out for 11/2 hours and solid sodium acetate is added until the diazo suspension reacts neutrally on congo red paper. 15.3 parts of 2.5-dimethoxyaniline are then dissolved in 450 parts of water and 12 parts of hydrochloric acid (specific weight 1.16) and this solution is gradually added to the diazo suspension. After stirring for five hours, the mixture is heated to 35 ° C. and held at this temperature for a further 8 hours in order to complete the coupling.
Finally, the temperature is increased to <B> 75 '</B> C and the compound obtained from the solution is filtered off. The compound is then dissolved in 1000 parts of water and 23 parts of 30% strength aqueous, caustic soda-containing soda. At a temperature of 45 to 50 ° C, 35 parts of aqueous sodium nitrite are then added to this solution and then 52 parts of hydrochloric acid (specific weight 1.16) are quickly added.
The diazotization is mainly complete after stirring for one hour and the diazo-disazo suspension is then cooled to 50 ° C. before coupling is carried out by gradually adding the suspension to a solution of 374 parts of 1-p-aminobenzoylamino- 8-naphthol-4-sulfonic acid in 400 parts of water and 60 parts of ammonia (specific weight 0.80) is carried out at a temperature of 0 C.
The new, so-formed trisazo dye is isolated from the solution by adding salt and filtration. It dyes cotton in light bluish-green shades and, through further diazotization and development on the barrel with 1-phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone, gives light yellowish green shades.
