Description
Process for the preparation of a high molecular weight sulfonic acid. It has been found that new, water-soluble condensation products can be obtained if solid, acid-condensed synthetic resins based on formaldehyde are treated with phenol, its homologues, or substitution products, and the resulting homogeneous mass is treated with sulphonating agents.
The present invention now relates to a method for the preparation of a high molecular weight sulfonic acid, characterized in that a synthetic resin obtained by condensation of a technical mixture of 2 ', 4 and 2,6-dichlorophenol and urea with formaldehyde using acidic catalysts is added a technical mixture of o- and p-chlorophenol dissolves and up. treated with sulfonating agents for water solubility.
In the form of its alkali salt, the new body represents a weakly colored, amorphous mass. In addition to being a tanning agent, the product can also serve as a wool reservation agent in semi-wool dyeing. <I> Example: </I> A resin obtained by condensation of 59 parts of dichlorophenol, 16 parts of urea, 56 parts of formaldehyde solution and 2% sulfuric acid is mixed with 165 parts of chlorophenol at <B> 70 '</ B > Stirred until a homogeneous solution of the resin has formed.
Between 65 to 75,310 parts of 12% oleum are now allowed to flow in and stirring is continued until a sample in the same volume of water is clearly soluble even in the cold.
After the excess acid has been blunted with sodium carbonate, the soluble resin can be obtained as a weakly colored, amorphous mass by salting out with sodium chloride or by evaporation; Their solutions have a strong precipitating effect on basic dyes, have strong glue-precipitating properties and turn a reddish blue color with ferric chloride.
