Description
process for the preparation of a high molecular weight sulfonic acid e. It has been found that new, water-soluble condensation products can be obtained if solid, acid-condensed synthetic resins based on formaldehyde are treated with phenol, its homologues or substitution products and the resulting homogeneous mass is treated with sulphonating agents.
The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of a high molecular weight sulfonic acid, characterized in that one obtained by condensation of chlorine-m-cresol (2.5) and urea with formaldehyde using acidic catalysts Synthetic resin dissolves in phenol and treats with sulfonating agents until water is soluble.
In the form of its alkali salt, the new body represents a weakly colored, amorphous mass. In addition to being a tanning agent, the product can also serve as a wool reservation agent in T4alh wool dyeing.
Example: 92 parts of a resin obtained by condensation of 10 $, 5 parts of chlorine-m-cre-sol, 26.5 parts of urea, 118 parts of 88% formaldehyde solution and 40 cm of sulfuric acid 1.5% with 110 parts Phenol stirred at 70 until a homogeneous solution of the resin has formed. Between 50 and 95 110 parts of sulfuric acid 66 BA are now allowed to flow in and stirring is continued until a sample in the same volume of water is clearly soluble even in the cold.
After the excess acid has been blunted with sodium carbonate, the soluble resin can be obtained as a weakly colored, amorphous mass by salting out with sodium chloride or by evaporation; their solutions have a strong precipitating effect on basic dyes.
