Description
Process for the preparation of a high molecular weight sulfonic acid. It has been found that you can ge to new, water-soluble condensation products if you throw solid, acid-condensed synthetic resins based on formaldehyde under a treatment with phenol, its homologues or substitution products and treat the resulting homogeneous mass with sulfonating agents.
The present invention relates to a method for the preparation of a bochmolecular sulfonic acid, characterized in that a synthetic resin obtained by condensation of phenol and urea with formaldehyde using acidic catalysts is obtained in an i, eehnischen mixture of o- and p- Chlorophenol dissolves and treated with sulfonating agents until it is water-soluble.
In the form of its alkali salt, the new body is a weakly colored, amorphous mass. In addition to being used as a tanning agent, (the product can serve as a wool reservation agent in semi-wool dyeing. <I> Example: </I> 67 parts of a resin obtained by condensing 75 parts of phenol 40 parts of urea, 120 parts of formaldehyde and 25 parts of sulfuric acid 4% are stirred with 78 parts of chlorophenol at 70 'until a homogeneous solution of the resin is obtained.
Between 40 and 110 95 parts of sulfuric acid of 6.6 Be are now allowed to flow in and stirring is continued until a sample in the same volume of water is clearly soluble in the cold. After the excess acid has been blunted with sodium carbonate, the soluble resin can be obtained as a weakly colored, amorphous mass by salting out with sodium chloride or by evaporation; Their solutions have a strong precipitating effect on basic dyes, have strong glue-precipitating properties and turn a reddish blue color with ferric chloride.
