Description
7nsatzpatent for main patent no. 158243. Process for the preparation of a high molecular weight sulfonic acid. It has been found that you can ge to new, water-soluble condensation products if you throw solid, acid-condensed synthetic resins based on formaldehyde under a treatment with phenol, its homologues or substitution products and treat the resulting homogeneous mass with sulfonating agents.
The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of a high molecular weight sulfonic acid, characterized in that a synthetic resin obtained by condensation of aniline, urea and formaldehyde using acidic catalysts is dissolved in phenol and with sulfonating agents until it is water-soluble treated.
In the form of its alkali salt, the new body represents a weakly colored, amorphous mass. In addition to being a tanning agent, the product can also serve as a wool reservation agent in semi-wool dyeing. Example: 75 parts of aniline and 32.5 parts of urea are mixed with a little water and 5% hydrochloric acid is added. After adding 11.0 parts of formaldehyde, the mixture is heated to 90 ° until the condensation product has separated off from the water as a viscous mass. For the sulfonation, phenol is added to 120 parts and treated with 170 parts of concentrated sulfuric acid.
The further processing takes place in the manner indicated in the 1st additional patent, the sodium salt being obtained as a pale yellow powder. With ferric chloride, a brown-violet precipitate is formed. The aqueous solution has strong glue-precipitating properties and turns brown-violet in color with ferric chloride.
