Mechanism to transform a rotational movement into an alternating rectilinear movement. the object of the invention is a mechanism for transforming a rotational movement into a reciprocating rectilinear movement. This mechanism, which lends itself to many applications, in particular in machines or tils, is characterized in that it comprises two threaded shafts parallel to one another and each driven by a rotational movement on himself; these shafts communicating a reciprocating rectilinear movement with a mobile, by means of a comb arranged between said shafts and intended to mesh al ternatively in the threaded part of one and the other of the latter so that it is driven like a nut, said comb being brought automatically from one of the threaded shafts to the other.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention applied to a grinding device.
Fig. 1 shows the apparatus in cross section; Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof comprising parts in section, approximately along the line A-B of FIG. 1. On a frame 1 intended to be fixed on a mechanic's lathe, a shaft 2 is mounted, one end of which carries a small grinding wheel (not shown) with the aid of which it is customary to rectify certain parts externally and internally. machine parts. To this end, the shaft 2 receives, on the one hand, a rotational movement by means of a pulley 3 and, on the other hand, an alternating axial movement along arrow 4 in FIG. 2. This latter movement is transmitted to the shaft 2 by an arm 5, one of the fork-shaped ends of which is fixed to a rod 6 movable along its axis in the frame 1.
The other end of the arm 5, also in the form of a fork, is engaged in a groove 7 of a sleeve of the pulley 3. The rod 6 receives a reciprocating axial movement, by the mechanism which is the object of the present invention and controlled by a shaft 8 driven by a continuous rotational movement. For this purpose, the shaft 8 controls, by means of a tangent worm gear 9, 10, a shaft 11 threaded in its middle part. The shaft 11 in turn controls a similar shaft 12, via two toothed gear 13 respectively 14.
In the threaded part of the shaft 11 engages in the manner of a nut, a comb 15 freely mounted on the rod 6, between the branches of the forked arm 5.
The comb 15 has two threaded notches 16 respectively 17 opposed to each other and can oscillate between the two shafts 11 and 12 so that it engages through its threaded notches, or in the threaded portion of the 'shaft 11, or in that of shaft 12. On the inner end, bevelled, of the comb 15 acts a rod 18 under the action of a spring 19. This rod and this spring are housed in a bore of the arm 5 and ensure, together with the inclined planes of the bi-bucket of the comb, the engagement of the latter in each of its extreme positions.
On the threaded part of each of the shafts 11 and 12 is wedged a nut 20 respectively 21 each carrying a pin 22 intended to act on a projecting part with an inclined plane 23 which the comb 15 comprises on each of its lateral faces. The action exerted by the pin 22 on the corresponding inclined plane has the effect of causing the comb 15 to pivot so that it disengages from one of the threaded shafts 11, 12 and meshes with the other of these shafts.
The comb 15 also carries a head screw 24, the tip of which can penetrate into a hole 25 of the rod 6 to secure the comb in the intermediate position where it does not mesh with either of the threaded shafts 11 and 12.
The operation of the mechanism described is as follows: When the shaft 8 is set in rotation, the threaded shafts 11 and 12 are driven and turn in the opposite direction with respect to one another. Assuming that the comb 15 meshes with the threaded part of the shaft 11, it will be driven parallel to the latter, towards the nut 20, imparting to the rod 6 and to the shaft 2 an axial movement of the same di rection. But as soon as the comb comes close to the nut 20, the pin 22 of the latter abuts against the corresponding inclined plane 23 and causes the comb to tilt so that it moves away from the shaft 11 and meshes with the threaded part of the shaft 12.
As a result, the comb is moved in the opposite direction than previously, under the action of the threaded shaft 12, until it meets the pin 22 of the nut 21 fixed on said shaft 12, at the opposite end with respect to that for the nut 20 of the shaft 11. At this time, the comb is again returned to its initial position, that is to say on the shaft 11 and begins its stroke again as described.
Thus, the comb and the members which are integral with it perform an alternating rectilinear movement.
The length of the comb stroke is adjustable by means of the nuts 20 respectively 21 which can be moved at will on the threaded part of the shafts 11 and 12.
In the example considered, the movement of the comb is assumed to be uniform. However, the comb could be animated with a varied, accelerated or delayed movement. This variable movement could be obtained, for example, by varying the speed ratio between the shafts 11 and 12, by differentiating the pitch of the respective threads of the shafts, or even by means of a progressive threading provided. on at least one of the two shafts 11 and 12.
One or the other of the provisions recommended above could be advantageously implemented when it comes to the control of a moving body (slide, tool holder, etc.) with rapid return, that is, that is, the retrograde movement of which is faster than the direct movement.
Shaft 2 can still be actuated by hand in the axial direction. To do this, it suffices to bring the comb 15 into its middle position, where it does not mesh with either of the threaded shafts 11 and 12. The comb can be wedged in this position by means of the screw 24 which is screwed to, bottom, so that its point engages in the hole 25 of the trin gle 6. From then on we can communicate to the shaft 2 a reciprocating rectilinear movement, using the rod 6 to which is transmitted .a back and forth movement by acting on a button provided at one end of the rod.
