Machine for sharpening tools with helical teeth
The present invention relates to a machine for sharpening tools with helical teeth, comprising a grinding wheel, a carriage sliding on a table and carrying a tool-holder headstock with stepped pulley for control cable of the movement of the carriage and simultaneously of the rotation of the tool relative to the grinding wheel, the two ends of the cable each being connected to a fixed support.
In known machines of this type, the tool is controlled with respect to the grinding wheel by a handle coaxial with said stepped pulley, which requires the worker to have his arm constantly raised. On the other hand, with this hand control, the cable passing over the pulley tends to slip when it is rotated using the handle, which affects the precision of the work.
The object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks and the machine which is the subject thereof is characterized by an operating handwheel mounted idle on an axis integral with the sliding carriage, by a cylindrical member integral with the flywheel and coaxial with the latter. , this member receiving at least one turn of the cable wound on it, and by means of adjusting the tension of the cable at one end of the latter.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the machine forming the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of this machine.
Fig. 2 is a view on a larger scale and in axial section, of a detail of FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 is a section through another detail of FIG. 1, also on a larger scale.
The machine shown in fig. 1 is used for sharpening a reamer A with helical toothing by means of a grinding wheel M. A carriage 1 on which is mounted a tool holder headstock 2 slides on a table 3. Headstock 2 is fitted with a pulley stepped 4, for a cable 5 for controlling the movement of the carriage 1 and simultaneously the rotation of the tool A with respect to the grinding wheel
M. A handle B allows either to rotate the reamer
A, or to order the clamp for fixing this reamer. The two ends of the cable 5 are each connected to a fixed support. One of these ends is anchored at 6 on a support 7 fixed to the frame of the machine. The other end of the cable is fixed at 8 to the head 9 of a screw 10 drilled axially to allow the cable to pass. The screw 10 is screwed into a fixed part 11 of the machine and a nut 9 'serves to lock the bolt 10 in the cable tension position.
Between its two fixed ends, the cable 5 passes over the pulley 4 as well as over two return pulleys 12, 12 '.
A maneuvering wheel 13 provided with a cylindrical part 14 from manufacture as shown in FIG. 2 is mounted idle on a pin 15 fixed to the carriage 1. For this purpose, the pin 15 comprises a square head 16 which is introduced into an opening 17 to be brought behind a groove 17 'formed in the side wall 1' of the carriage. 1 and through which the groove passes the axis 15.
A locking nut 18 makes it possible to lock the axis 15 in the desired position in the groove 17 '. A bolt 19 screwed into the free end of the shaft 15 axially retains the flywheel 13 without preventing it from rotating freely. The cylindrical part 14 is provided with a groove 20 receiving at least one turn of the cable 5 wound in this groove between the return pulley 12 'and the fixed part 11 for anchoring the cable 5 as shown in the section shown àlafig. 2.
The operation of the machine described is as follows:
The cable 5 of constant length is stretched by means of the screw 10. By rotating the handwheel 13, the carriage 1 is moved relative to the fixed table 3. This movement is limited by stops 21, 21 'cooperating with a fixed part 22 integral with the table 3.
The carriage 1 with the doll 2 is moved on the table 3 and simultaneously the reamer A is rotated by the pulley 4 over which the cable 5 passes.
The stops 21 and 21 'determine the length of the stroke of the reamer A under the grinding wheel M and the diameter of the chosen step of the pulley 4 determines the angle of rotation of the reamer A during its movement under the grinding wheel
M, that is to say the pitch of the helical grooves.
The machine described has the advantage of allowing very precise work thanks to the fact that the slipping between the cable and the drive pulley is eliminated. This slippage occurred with the control of the reamer by handle B.
On the other hand, the user can in a convenient position operate the side wheel 13 with the right hand while monitoring the operation of the machine, which was not the case when using the handle B.
