Accessory device for a machine tool, intended for milling keyways. The object of the present invention is an accessory apparatus for a machine tool, intended for milling keyways, arranged to be mounted on the transverse slide of said machine tool, characterized in that it comprises a slide arranged in order to move parallel to the longitudinal axis of the machine tool following an adjustable back and forth movement, a milling cutter shaft mounted on this slide and the axis of which is perpendicular to said axis of the machine tool, and drive means comprising a control shaft and provided to drive the slide and the cutter-holder shaft.
By way of example, the appended drawing represents an embodiment of the apparatus which is the subject of the invention, mounted on a lathe. In this drawing The fi-. 1 shows a front view of the device.
Fig. 2 shows a plan view of the apparatus.
Fig. 3 shows a partial section taken along the line A-A of FIG. 2.
Fig. 4 shows a partial section taken on line B-B of FIG. 3.
Fig. 5 partially shows the device for driving the slide of the apparatus, on a larger scale.
The apparatus shown comprises a smooth neck 5 which can move on a fixed slide 1. The latter can be fixed to the transverse smooth neck 2 by one turn, for example, by means of screws 3 and wedges 4. The slide 5 carries a milling keel 6. The milling cutter 7, the diameter of which has the dimension of the width of the keyway to be milled, can be clamped by means of normal collets in a milling cutter shaft 8 mounted in the quill 6. The axis of said shaft 8 is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the lathe and this shaft can be eccentric in quill 6 in order to be able to be brought exactly. in the axis of the doll 9, that is to say in said axis of the lathe, on which the device is mounted.
The slide 5 can describe a reciprocating movement parallel to the longitudinal axis of the lathe, this movement being obtained by means of a dragging device shown in FIG. 3. This device comprises an intermediate rotary shaft 10, mounted on the slide 5, which receives its rotary movement from a control shaft 11 acting by a worm on a worm wheel 12 keyed on said shaft 10. The latter is provided with. its lower end of a lever 13 pivoted on this end and carrying a roller 14 eccentric with respect to the axis of the shaft 10. The roller 14 moves. between two fixed slides 15, mounted on the fixed slide 1.
By the rotating movement of the shaft 10, which drives the eccentric roller 14, a reciprocating movement of the slide 5 relative to the slide 1 is obtained. The length or stroke of this reciprocating movement can be adjusted by moving away or by bringing the roller 14 away from the axis of the shaft 10. This adjustment can be done by means of a tie rod 16 which carries a finger 17. The latter is housed in a groove of the lever 13 (see fig. 5) pivoting at 18. By turning around its axis, pulling it. 16 carrying the finger 17 acts on the lever 13 and thus brings the axis of the roller 14 at will to the desired distance from the center of the shaft 10. This distance is the radius of rotation of the roller 14 around the shaft 10 and constitutes the half-stroke of the reciprocating movement of the slide 5.
When the roller 1.4 is brought to the desired position by means of a graduated disc 1.9 keyed on the tie rod 16, the lever 13 can be blocked by screwing a knurled pulley 20 on the tie rod 16, which is thus withdrawn back. The finger 17 attached to the tie rod 16 has a bearing which clamps the lever 13 against the face of the shaft 1.0 and maintains it in the desired position.
The control shaft 11 (fig. 4) can be actuated by the return of the lathe acting on a pulley 21. Instead of the latter, it is also possible to provide a flange motor fixed directly to the slide 5. The shaft control 11 also carries a stepped pulley 22 which, by means of a belt 23, can actuate a pulley 24 of the quill 6 carrying the cutter 7.
In fig. 2, we see, by way of example, the apparatus mounted on a normal lathe. A workpiece 25 is clamped in the shaft of the headstock 9 of the lathe by means of a clamp. It is supported at the other end by the. counter-force 26 of the turn. The device, fixed on the transverse smooth neck 2 of the lathe, can be brought into the working position by means of said smooth neck. Immediately. that the cutter 7 will touch the part 25, the milling of the groove can begin cer.
The cutter 7, mounted on the slide 5, moves in a reciprocating motion of the desired length, parallel to the. part 25, while turning on itself, since it is mounted on the quill 6. To mill a groove, it is therefore sufficient to proceed with the sinking to the desired depth by means of the transverse slide 2 of the lathe.
