Device for milling mechanical parts. The present invention relates to an apparatus for the milling of mechanical parts, for example for the relief of milling cutters and, more especially. thread.
The device. according to the invention is characterized by the fact that the part to be machined is fixed on a rotary shaft moving while remaining parallel to itself and carrying a reproduction jig which cooperates with a fixed stop to adjust everything. instant the distance from the part to the milling cutter according to the peripheral reliefs of this template.
The accompanying drawings show by way of example the embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section of a milling machine.
Fig. 2 is a plan.
The thread-. 3 is a cross section along the line III-III of FIG. 1.
Figs. 4 and 5 are respectively a view (the face and a cross section, with partial elevation, of the diving device.
Fig. 6 shows in cross section the blank of a four-edged milling cutter, cut as it is. produced by the device shown.
Fig. 7 is a similar view of the finished cutter.
1 designates the frame of the milling machine, provided with a support with two coaxial bearings 2 and 3 in which the cutter-holder spindle 4 is rotatably mounted. The latter carries between the two bearings 2 and 3 two pulleys 5 and 6 of which the 'one is crazy, while the other is wedged on the spindle and is used for its drive with the help of a belt. The cutter 7 is attached to the front end of the spindle in the usual manner. The rear end of the pin carries a peripheral bulge 8, fitted with gentle friction between two abutments, axial annulars 9 and 7.0 integral. one of the other and provided with a handle 11.
These stops rotate inside a c @ - lindrique housing 72 which slides axially on two parallel pins 13 integral with the frame. This housing is axially locked in a given position by clamping screws 14. In its wall is formed an oblique groove 1.5, the sides of which are intended to cooperate with the base of the handle 11 for adjusting the axial position of the housing. the cutter in that any pivoting movement of this handle and, consequently, of the stops 9 and 10, produces an axial translational movement of the easy carrying spindle 4.
On the posterior end of the. spindle holder 4 is mounted, integral in rotation, but movable in translation, a pulley 16, held axially between the housing 12 and a cross member 17 integral with the pins 13.
In the lower part of the frame 1 is fixed a hollow axis 18, parallel to the cutter-holder spindle 4 and extended in cantilever beyond the cutter 7. On a bearing surface 19 of this axis is mounted with gentle friction a lever 20, carrying on its internal face a rotary roller 21, and the end of which cooperates with means (not shown) allowing its adjustment and its locking in position relative to the axis of the cutter 7. On another bearing 22 of the axis 18 is mounted with gentle friction a doll 23, intended to receive the workpiece as well as the circular template which must. cooperate with the roller 21.
For this purpose, said doll is pierced with a bore in which is embedded a pad 24, locked in position by nuts 25, and provided with an internal thread 26 which extends over part of its length, the other part of the bore of this bearing being smooth. In this bearing is screwed a cylinder 27 also threaded on a part of its length and provided with a smooth bearing intended to cooperate with the smooth bore of said bearing. On the rear end of cylinder 27 is wedged a helical wheel 28, engaged with a worm 29 rotatably mounted in supports 30 integral with the frame 1.
The axis of this worm carries, on the one hand., A handwheel 31 and., On the other hand, a cylindrical toothed pinion 32, in engagement with a pinion 33 also rotatably mounted on the frame 1. By by means of a pair of bevel gears 34 and 35, this axis is connected to a shaft 36 rotatably mounted inside the hollow axis 18. The opposite end of this shaft carries a pulley 37 which can be driven. by a belt, from the pulley 16 of the cutter-holder spindle 4.
The cylinder 27 is pierced with a central bore in which is housed a threaded rod 38, one end of which is screwed into the workpiece 39, while the other end carries a locking nut 40 provided with operating handles. Using this device, the clamping of the workpiece can be achieved in a very simple and rapid manner in that it is sufficient. screw the part on the corresponding end of the. threaded rod 38 and then proceed to tighten it by operating the nut 40 using its handles. At its end carrying the workpiece, the cylinder 27 is provided with a centering bearing on which the jig 41 is fitted, which is then secured to the cylinder by screws 42.
In the upper part of the doll? 3 is formed a cylindrical bore 43, the axis of which is parallel to that of the cylinder 27 and in which can slide a piston 44 subjected to the action of a compression spring 45, resting, on the other hand, against a closing cover 46. the posterior end of said ally wise. The anterior end of the piston 44 carries a beak 47 projecting out of the louse and engaging in a rusting worm striker 48 fixed to an extension of the bearing 3. Finally, the headstock is extended upwards by a handle maneuver 49 which allows it to pivot around the bearing surface 22 of the axis 18, and on which is articulated a lever 50 with the aid of which the piston 44 can be actuated against]. 45.
The operation of the device is as follows: In the example shown, part 39 must be internally threaded. The pitch of the thread 26 must. match that of the internal thread to be cut, while the cutter's cutting combs are aligned peripherally. The cutter, driven by a continuous rotational movement, is. committed to. bottom into the workpiece bore using the handle 11, and the tailstock is set to. cutting depth using the. handle 49 and the locking device 47, 48 previously ini> y in point .. The reproduction device does not intervene. not and. must therefore be niis out of action.
The flywheel 31 is then maneuvered so as to cause the cylinder 27 to turn one full turn, so as to keep it advancing axially by a single step of the thread to be produced. After this revolution of the cylinder: '7, the threading is finished. The part 39 is released using the handle 49 and. the cutter is removed by recalling the cutter holder spindle using handle 11.
It suffices to replace part 39 with another and the same operations begin again.
To profile the non-circular cross section of a part starting from a body having a shape of revolution, for example to cut it with several sides, or to provide it with several longitudinal edges connected together by grooves, we make cooperate a template 42 of the desired shape with the fixed roller 21 carried by the button lever 20.
As in the previous case, the cutter 7 is advanced by the necessary length using the handle 11. The lever 20 is immobilized in a position such that the roller 21 cooperates correctly with the peripheral reliefs of the template 41 so that the part can be cut to the desired dimension. The doll is then maneuvered using (the handle 49 to press the template against the roller 21. and the handwheel 31 is rotated. This results in all the points of the peripheral profile of the moving template in contact with the roller 21 and that the poe 23 moves forward and backward as the workpiece rotates relative to the cutter, itself driven by a continuous key rotation movement.
The depth of cut of this cutter therefore varies in the same measure and the key cross section 1.a part thus receives a shape which differs from the circular shape. 117n using a template with four tops, interconnected by suitable curves (fig. 3), it is thus possible to cut a rough cut-out blank, for example as shown in fig. 3. The finishing work then consists in avoiding the cutting edges by longitudinal grooves and we obtain the cross-sectional profile shown in fig. 6.
In this case, the device for advancing the cylinder 27 does not intervene, and the thread '6 can be replaced by a smooth bearing.
In my variant, take place to actuate the jig 41 by hand, its rotational movement is produced from the milling spindle 4. For this purpose, it suffices to connect the pulleys 16 and 37 by a belt. The rotational movement of the spindle is then transmitted to the shaft 36 and from the latter to the cylinder 27, via the pinions 34, 35, 33, 32, the worm 29 and the helical wheel 28 Figs. 4 and 5 show an embodiment of the diving device, intended to adjust the transverse position of the doll.
The bearing 3 of the frame 1 carries an arcuate slide 51, centered on the pivot axis of the headstock 23. In this slide is engaged a tubular fixing pin 52, one end of which is provided with a stopper. Circular 53 which connects to a cylindrical extension 54, while the opposite end is threaded over a certain length and receives a key locking nut 55.
Once engaged in the slide, this tubular axis can therefore be fixed in any transverse position by tightening the nut 55 which rests against the corresponding face of the slide, while the circular stop is pressed against the opposite face. On the cylindrical extension 54, forming a rotational bearing surface, is engaged in friction. soft an eccentric ej-lindrique hub 56, minai externally with a square section key thread, and. extended by an operating lever 58.
The hub 56, 5th screws into a corresponding thread of a block 57 which rests on the corresponding face of the slide 51 and, on which is fixed the keeper 48 which must cooperate with the key locking nose - 17. The hub 56 and its lever. manrnuvre, 7 are immobilized in rotation using a spindle 60, one end of which is provided with a head 61 which is applied against the outer face or the inner shoulder of the hub 56, and whose opposite end is provided with a thread to receive a tightening key nut 62 which comes to bear on the corresponding end of the tubular shaft 52.
The operation of this device is as follows. The two nuts 55 and 61 being loosened, the assembly is pushed by hand into a position of rough adjustment and the nut 55 is then tightened, thus immobilizing the tubular shaft 52. The keeper 48 is then adjusted to its exact position by the operation of the lever 58 and this lever is locked in this position by tightening the nut 62 with a key. It is then possible to tighten and re-tighten the block 57 by the sole operation of the lever. 58, the locking position of the keeper 48 being established once and for all by the tightening of the nut 62.
Of course, the embodiment described has been given only by way of example and without. To depart from the principle of the invention, one can imagine many variants.
