8. Use of the device according to one of the preceding claims for sharpening the cutting lips of a die.
The present invention relates to a device for sharpening cutting tools and more particularly to dies.
There is currently no sharpening device for the dies, which are discarded once blunt.
In a die, it is advantageous to be able to sharpen the leading edges of the die without modifying the diameter or the pitch. It is to carry out such a sharpening operation that the present device has been particularly developed.
This device is distinguished by the characteristics listed in claim 1.
The accompanying drawing illustrates schematically and by way of example three embodiments of the sharpening device according to the invention.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view, partially broken away, of a first embodiment of the sharpening device.
Figs. 2 and 3 are perspective views of the second and third embodiments of the sharpening device.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view of the table of the third embodiment illustrated in FIG. 3.
Figs. 5 and 6 are views respectively in top plan and in section of a table support of the third embodiment.
Fig. 7 is a sectional view of a die holder of the third embodiment of the sharpening device.
The sharpening device, in particular for dies, illustrated in FIG. I has a base I in cast iron, giving the machine a perfect seat. On this base is fixed with bolts (not shown) a frame 2 of cast aluminum having the general shape of a U, which gives the machine both a relatively reduced weight and great rigidity.
This frame 2 has two bores 3 having in their lower part a larger diameter than in their upper part.
Ball bushings are placed in the upper parts of the bores 3, and each receive a column 4, thus sliding without play in the frame 1. The underside of these columns 4 abuts against the upper end of a coil spring 5 placed in the lower part of the large diameter of the bores 3.
This frame I is also provided with means for fixing a high frequency electric motor, for example 26,000 rpm on 220 V, the axis 6 of which extends vertically out of the frame 1.
A horizontal table 7 is rigidly fixed to the upper end of the columns 4. This table has a central hole 8, centered on the axis of the motor and giving passage, during its vertical movements against the action of the springs 5, to a grinding wheel 6 carried by the motor axis.
In this simplest version, table 7 consists of a case-hardened, tempered, rectified plate, allowing the installation of large dimensions. For small dies, and this because of the hole giving way to the grinding wheels, a small table has been provided which is simply fixed on the already existing one and thus making it possible to partially close the opening 8.
The operation of the sharpening device described is as follows:
The die to be sharpened is placed on the table 7 so that the grinding wheel 6 is centered on a clearance from this die.
We give a slight pressure of the cutting edge against the grinding wheel then, by pressing on the table, we lower it. During this race, one of the cutting edges of the die is sharpened. The table returns to the starting position using springs 5.
The user repeats this operation as many times as there are cutting edges to be sharpened, two by clearing the die.
In this embodiment, the table 7 also includes a threaded rod 9 extending parallel to a column 4. This threaded rod receives two threaded chickens 10. The rod 9 passes through a hole made in a boss of the frame 1. Thus , using the chickens 10, the stroke of the table can be limited.
The second embodiment of the sharpening device, illustrated in FIG. 2, differs from the first embodiment only by the use of a tilting table 7 of 250 both forwards and backwards, making it possible to carry out delicate angular operations, such as: clearing the die, etc. In this tilting table are arranged threads 11 for fixing templates or shims, etc., to perform repetitive work. The central opening 12 of this table is elongated.
The inclination of this table 7 can be adjusted and fixed using screw devices 13.
The operation of this second embodiment is substantially the same as that described above, except that, when the table is tilted, the user generally fixes the dies on the table and does not just keep it in place by hand. .
In the third embodiment of the sharpening device, illustrated in FIGS. 3 to 7, table 7 is more sophisticated, and allows the exact position of the grinding wheel to be adjusted using a worm screw; in addition, a quick indexing device allows precise work on all sharpenable parts of the die.
This table has a base 14 rigidly fixed to the upper end of the columns 4 sliding in the frame 1 of the machine.
This base has a central circular recess having a shoulder 15 constituting a support barrel receiving a helical helical wheel 16. This helical wheel 16 cooperates with an endless screw 17 mounted in the base 14 and which can be rotated using of a bolt 18.
The helical wheel 16 comprises one or more ball drive stops comprising, arranged in a bore, a ball 19 subjected to the action of a spring 20 and held in place by a screw 21. The ball 19 normally emerges slightly at above the upper surface of the helical wheel 16.
A support 22, illustrated in detail in FIGS. 5 and 6, is placed on the helical wheel so that conical bores 23 on its annular lower surface cooperate with the balls 19 in order to fix the angular position of the support 22 relative to the helical wheel 16.
This support comprises three radial holes 24 receiving dis
positive snap-fit ball consisting of a ball 25, emerging on the inner periphery of the support 22 subjected to the action of a spring and held in position by a screw.
This table also includes a die holder 26 having a cylindrical shape whose peripheral surface has two grooves 27, 28. This die holder is intended to be introduced into the central recess of the support 22 and held in place by the cooperating balls 25 with one of the grooves 27, 28 in the direction in which the die holder is introduced into the support.
The die holder 26 has in each of its faces a passage 29 with a diameter corresponding to the external diameter of a thread. A screw 30 keeps a die in position.
Thanks to this table, the angular position of the die can be adjusted using the worm screw 17. It is also possible to manually index the support 22 by causing it to rotate relative to the helical wheel 16 to go from sharpening the lips of a clearance of the die to those of the following clearance.
The sharpening device described is extremely simple and robust and allows precise and rapid sharpening, in particular of the dies. In addition, it is obvious that this device can also be used for sharpening other cutting tools or even for milling or other machining in micro-mechanics or in jewelry.
