Le dessin illustre le mode de fraisage des têtes de vis et, à titre d'exemple, une forme d'exécution de l'objet de l'invention et deux variantes de construction de l'appareil à fendre les vis. La fig. 1 montre une tête de vis dont la fente a été fraisée au moyen d'une seule fraise suivant le mode de fraisage illustré à la fig. 2 ; la fig. 3 montre une tête de vis dont la fente a été fraisée successivement par deux fraises, d'après le mode de fraisage illustré aux fig. 4 et 5 ;
Automatic lathe provided with a device for slitting screws With the devices for slitting screws, mounted on automatic lathes, the slot of the screw is generally obtained by driving the latter on a milling cutter whose axis is fixed in position or, in the case of screws with large heads for which it is necessary that the bottom of the slot be parallel to the face of the head, by a milling cutter whose axis moves in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the screw.
In either case, it is impossible to avoid the formation of a burr as shown in FIG. 1 of the drawing. Quality screws must then be deburred by rework.
The invention relates to a. automatic lathe provided with a device for slitting the screws which does not have the aforesaid drawback. This apparatus comprises means for gripping the screw at the time of cutting and transporting it to the milling location, holding it there, then finally releasing it after milling from the slot.
This automatic lathe comprises two cutters arranged at the place of milling, so as to have reverse milling directions while being in the same plane, these two cutters being each mounted on one of two milling spindles intended to turn. each in the direction of work of its cutter, these spindles being mounted on a carriage capable of being driven in a reciprocating movement by actuating means, the whole being arranged in such a way that, when the screw is in its milling position, its head is milling during the stroke of said carriage, first in one direction by one of the cutters and then in the opposite direction, by the strawberry den. Thus we obtain a slot without burrs.
The drawing illustrates the method of milling the screw heads and, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention and two construction variants of the device for slitting the screws. Fig. 1 shows a screw head, the slot of which has been countersunk by means of a single milling cutter according to the milling mode illustrated in FIG. 2; fig. 3 shows a screw head, the slot of which has been milled successively by two cutters, according to the milling method illustrated in FIGS. 4 and 5;
fig. 6 shows, partially in section and partially in elevation, part of an automatic lathe provided with an apparatus for slitting the screws; -the fig. 7 is an elevational view of this apparatus, in the direction of the arrow therein indicated in FIG. 6; figs. 8 and 9 show an alternative construction of the device for slitting the screws; and fig. 10 shows a second construction variant of this device.
According to the known milling mode illustrated in FIG. 2, the slot is made in the head of the screw 1 by means of a single cutter 2 arranged in a plane passing through the axis of the screw and moved in the direction of the arrow x indicated in this fig. 2. This gives a screw whose slot has a burr, as shown in fig. 1. The automatic lathe object of the invention does not have this drawback because it executes this slit using two cutters 3 and 4 (fig. 4 and 5) arranged in the same plane, so as to have directions. milling in verses.
These two cutters 3 and 4 are rotatably mounted on a slide, not shown, which is first moved in the direction of the arrow x1 indicated in FIG. 4 and then in the opposite direction indicated by the arrow x2 in FIG. 5. The slot is therefore machined in two successive operations. When the slide goes down, the cutter 3 first performs part of the slot and, then, when the slide goes up, it is the cutter 4, rotating in the opposite direction, which ends the slot and at the same time eliminates the ba vure which was formed on the face of the head during milling by means of the milling cutter 3. Such a screw is shown in fig. 3.
The explanations which follow relate to an automatic lathe which -is provided with a device for slitting the screws working according to the principle illustrated in figs. 4 and 5.
The frame 6 of this automatic lathe is shown in part in FIG. 6. To this frame is fixed a support 7, which carries the console 8 of the device for slitting the screws. The console 8 has a slide 8a on which is mounted the slide 9b of the carriage 9 subjected to the action of two spells 1 0 which push it upwards. An actuating mechanism is associated with this slide 9b to move it downwards against the action of these two springs. This mechanism comprises an actuating lever 11 pivoted at 11a and cooperating, through the intermediary of a spout 11b with a control cam 12, which, to simplify the drawing, has only been indicated by a circle. in mixed lines.
This cam is fixed on the camshaft 13, from which all the operations of the automatic lathe are controlled. This lever 11 is connected, by means of a connecting rod 14, to an actuating lever 15 pivoted at 15a and acting, via an adjusting screw 16, on a shoulder 9a of the slide 9b.
In the lower part of the carriage 9 are mounted two quills 17 and 18, one of which, 17, is fixed, while the other, 18, can be adjusted, along its axis, by means of an adjusting screw 19. both to move this quill against a res out 20 acting on a side part of this quill. In these two quills are journaled two milling spindles 21 and 22 which carry, at one of their projecting ends, a milling cutter 23, respectively 24, and at the other end a toothed wheel 25, respectively 26.
These two toothed wheels 25 and 26 mesh with each other and one is driven by the toothed wheel 27 of a gear 28. It can therefore be seen that the pins 21 and 22 turn in the opposite direction. The teeth of one and the other of its spurs 23 and 24 are oriented, given their opposite direction of rotation, in the opposite direction while being in the same plane. At its lower part, the console 8 is provided with a sliding lateral arm 8b which engages in a guide sleeve 7a integral with the support 7. By means of an adjusting screw 30, it is possible to adjust the console 8 with all the parts it supports, in the axial direction of the sleeve 7a.
On an automatic lathe, the screws are obtained from a bar to be machined, the front end of which is first turned by means of a chisel which forms the shank of the screw, then the latter is threaded. The screw is then cut off by another chisel and gripped by an oscillating conveyor member which brings it in front of the cutters, that is to say in the field of action of the latter. All the means intended for carrying out said machining, threading, cutting and transporting operations are known. These include in particular the machining chisel 31, the cutting chisel 31a and the conveyor member 32.
As we have just said, the latter grasps the screw and brings it into the field of action of the cutters 23 and 24 which then feels the slot in the screw head as a result of the movement of the carriage 9 first towards the down, and then up. The screw head is slotted, therefore, in two successive operations, according to the milling method illustrated in fig. 4 and 5.
Figs. 8 and 9 show an alternative construction of the screw splitting apparatus in which the spindle of the milling cutter 33 is mounted directly on the slide 9b, while the spindle of the milling cutter 34 is mounted on a support arm 35 pivoted in. 35a. This spring biased arm 36 can be adjusted by means of an adjusting screw so that the axes of the spindles carrying the milling cutters 33 and 34 lie in vertical planes which are slightly offset from one another. other, as shown in fig. 8.
With such an apparatus, and cutters of the same diameter, the cutter 34, by descending, roughens the slot and the cutter 33, while rising again, the retouch, which has the effect of breaking the burr formed by the cutter 34.
According to another construction variant, shown in FIG. 10, the two cutter spindles 37 and 38 are mounted on an oscillating support 39. During the reciprocating movement of the support 39, the two cutters execute a slightly concave slot showing no burrs.
