Tour.
Tower. The object of the present invention is a lathe comprising a fixed headstock and a carriage with control cranks for longitudinal and transverse movements. This lathe is characterized by a control device .comprising a speed reduction mechanism driven by the shaft of the fixed gear and driving a flexible cable carrying at its free end a part capable of being adapted to one or the other. another of the handles of the cart.
The appended drawing represents, partially and by way of example, an embodiment of the lathe which is the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is an elevational view of the control device, FIG. 2 is a side view thereof, and FIG. 3 shows a detail. Fig. 4 shows this device mounted on a lathe.
In the embodiment shown partially, the lathe is of the ordinary type with a bench 20 carrying a fixed headstock 1, a tailstock 18 and a carriage 19 which can be fixed at any point on the bench between the two dolls. The carriage comprises two perpendicular slides with control cranks 21 for the longitudinal and transverse movements of the tool fixed on the carriage.
These cranks are usually operated by hand, resulting in irregular work. In the embodiment shown, the cranks of the carriage are controlled by a rotating fork 12, the two teeth of which engage on either side of the two crank arms. This fork is integral with a rotating axis in a knurled sleeve 11 intended to be held by hand.
The bench 20 of the lathe has a T groove in which engages a bolt 17 for fixing the control device. The shaft of the fixed headstock carries a gear 2 while interlocking with a toothed plate 3 of the device. This toothed plate is mounted on a fixed axis 4 with a return spring tending to apply it against a .galet 6.
This roller drags a shaft 7 on which it can slide axially. The shaft 7 carries at its lower end a worm 8 driving a helical wheel 9 integral with an axis rotating in a fixed bearing and driving a flexible cable 10 carrying at its opposite end the axis of the fork 12 and its sleeve mo lity 11.
The roller 6 is held in position by a fork 15 integral with a slider 14 which can slide on a rack 1a and be fixed in any point thereof by means of a spring-loaded stop finger 16.
The operation of this lathe is as follows: 'To turn a cylinder or a face, it suffices to prepare the lathe as usual, then put the cursor 14, 16 in the position corresponding to the diameter of the part to be turned. . The fork 12 is then placed on the crank of the carriage and the lathe is started.
The carriage crank thus assumes a constant speed and the workpiece is rotated cleanly thanks to the uniform feed of the tool.
As a variant, the fork 12 could be replaced by any other suitable part, the cranks of the carriage having a corresponding seal.
