Device for dressing a shaped grinding wheel The subject of the invention is a device for dressing a shaped grinding wheel, in particular a device of the type comprising a diamond cutting tool carried by a operating mechanism and intended to dress a grinding wheel and give it a specific profile. When the cutting tool has the shape of a point, it wears out quickly; this is why it is customary to mu nize the diamond with a cutting edge of a certain extent. However, with an extended edge, it is more difficult to obtain an accurate raised profile, this because of the various angular displacements which the mechanism carrying the cutting tool makes.
In addition, all points of the cutting edge may not wear evenly, and this irregular wear may also cause the profile of the dressed wheel to be inaccurate.
The present invention relates to a dressing device in which the precision of the dressed profile of the grinding wheel does not depend on the length of the cutting edge of the cutting tool. This device also ensures the distribution of wear along said cutting edge, so as to maintain the shape of the latter.
The dressing device forming the subject of the invention is characterized in that it comprises a mechanism carrying a cutting tool having a cutting line in the form of an arc of small radius and means for imparting limited angular oscillations. said cutting tool, around the center of said arc, during the dressing movements performed by said tool.
The drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the dressing device forming the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a side elevational view. Fig. 2 is a standing elevation, partly in section.
Fig. 3 is a plan view, partially in section, showing the means for imparting limited angular oscillations to the cutting tool.
Fig. 4 is a somewhat schematic elevational view of said means for imparting limited angular oscillations to the cutting tool.
Fig. 5 is an elevation of part of said embodiment, seen from the left of FIG. 2; and fig. 6 is an elevational view, on a larger scale, of part of FIG. 1 and shows the diamond cutting tool and its support. Although the mechanism carrying the cutting tool of the device described is a pantograph, embodiments comprising other types of mechanisms are possible.
As can be seen in fig. 1, the embodiment shown comprises a pantograph A of usual general construction and comprising an arm A1 fixed at one of its ends and by means of a pivot B to a fixed support, an arm A2 articulated at B3 to the 'free end of the arm AI, an arm A3 parallel to the arm A1 and articulated at one of its ends, in B4, to the arm A2,
and a connecting rod A4 parallel to the arm A2 and articulated at its two ends to the arms A1 and A3, at B2 and at BI respectively.
The pantograph thus formed constitutes a frame in the form of a parcelogram and such that any contour drawn by a point on the outer end of the arm A2 is reproduced on a smaller scale by a point moving on the axis of the pivot connecting one to the other the arm A3 and the connecting rod A4. The point of the A2 arm must be in the plane containing the axes of the pivots connecting respectively the A3 arm to the A4 connecting rod and the AI arm to the fixed support.
Since the cutting edge of the diamond cutting tool is not a point but a line, it cannot lie entirely on the axis of said pivot, but it can be of an arcuate shape and be coaxial with this. axis. Thus, as shown in FIG. 2, the pivot BI connecting the arm A3 to the connecting rod A4 is integral with a dressing arm C which extends outwards. A support. D, for a diamond cutting tool, is adjustably attached to the outer end of this arm. This support consists of a cylindrical member mounted in a corresponding base of the arm C and extending transversely through this arm.
The diamond E is fixed in the end of the support D and is shaped so as to have an arc-shaped cutting edge El (see fig. 3 and 6). By adjusting the position of the holder D in the base of the arm C, this holder can be brought to a position such that the center of the arc of the diamond cutting edge E is on the axis of the pivot BI, that is to say on the geometrical axis of the pantograph pencil holder.
A contact member F mounted at the outer end of the arm A2, intended to move along the profile of the template, consists of a roller whose radius length is that of the radius of the arc of the cutting edge El like the scale of the template to that of the training profile to be obtained.
The device comprises means intended to impart limited angular oscillations to the cutting tool. In the embodiment shown, these means comprise a frame G in which a shaft H, integral with a sun gear 1, is mounted to rotate. A ring gear with internal teeth J arranged coaxially with the sun gear I is mounted on a sleeve so as to be able to turn around the shaft H. A satellite gear K in granular with sun gear 1 and with crown J. This satellite gear is mounted on a support L secured to a sleeve carried by the shaft H.
M represents a motor means for turning a crank Ml. This crank is connected by a pin M2 to a rod M3 whose opposite end is articulated in JI to the crown J, so that the rotation of the crank MI causes an oscillating movement of crown J.
By moving the M2 spindle radically on the MI crank, you can modify the amplitude of the oscillations. If the pinion its satellite K is kept stationary, the oscillations of the crown J are transmitted to the solar pinion I which imparts similar oscillations to the shaft H. A pulley HI < / I> mounted on the shaft H is connected by a transmission belt N to a pulley NI which is coaxial with the pivot B. A second pulley N2, coaxial with the NI pulley and integral with this pulley, is linked by a belt N3 to a pulley N4 coaxial with the pivot B2. A coaxial pulley N5,
integral with the pulley N4, is connected by a belt N6 to a pulley N7 fixed to the pivot BI. Thus, the oscillations of the shaft H are transmitted to the dressing arm C. The freedom of movement of the pantograph is preserved, because the pulleys of the transmission are coaxial with the pivots of the pantograph.
The device described allows the dressing of a grinding wheel O, provided that all the tangents to the profile are included in a not very large angle. Generally, in gear grinding machines, separate and independent cutting tools are used to dress the parts of the grinding wheel corresponding to the opposite sides of a gear tooth, so that said angle is not very large. However, if the same cutting tool is used to dress the parts of the grinding wheel corresponding to the two sides of the gear tooth, the angle comprising the tangents to the profile is greater than the angle subtended by the arched cutting edge of the diamond.
Means, the operation of which is independent of the means causing the cutting tool to oscillate, and intended to modify the angular position of this tool around the center of the arc formed by the cutting edge of the tool are then necessary. These means comprise a LI rocking arm mounted on a support L and by means of which this support can be rotated by a determined angle about its axis (fig. 4). Such a displacement imparts, via the satellite pinion K, a rotation to the sun pinion I, to the shaft H and to the pulley HI, independently of the rotation transmitted to its elements by the oscillations of the crown J. The transmission with belts and pulleys previously described transmits this additional rotation to the dressing arm C carrying the diameter E.
Therefore, for a finished position of the rocking arm LI, the arched and oscillating cutting edge El occupies an angular range adequate for the dressing of one of the sides of the grinding wheel and, when said LI arm is moved to another determined position, the oscillations of the cutting edge take place in another angular range, suitable for dressing on the other side of the wheel. the grindstone.
A template P, around which the contact member F is moved, (fig. 1) has a part of the profile PI which corresponds to one of the sides of the grinding wheel to be dressed and another part of profile P2 corresponding to the other side of this wheel. Between these two profile parts is a connection part P3. If the contact roller is moved continuously all around the template, starting from part PI and passing through part P3 to part P2, an adjustment of the angular position of the The cutting tool should be made at an intermediate point.
Automatic means ensuring such an adjustment are shown schematically in FIG. 4. These means comprise a cylinder Q, a piston QI connected to the arm LI by a rod Q2 and a spool R controlling the supply of the cylinder Q with pressurized fluid, through conducted RI and R2 respectively. Movements of the QI piston have the effect of corresponding adjustments of the position of the swing arm LI and corresponding offsets of the average position of the oscillating cutting tool. The R drawer can be automatically operated by moving the pantograph.
In the embodiment shown, this automatic movement is provided by a solenoid S actuating the slide R. In fig. 1 and 3, we see an electrical switch T, intended to control the solenoid S, mounted at the fixed fulcrum of the pantograph. A T2 buffer is mounted on the A4 connecting rod so that for certain displacements of the A4 connecting rod, this buffer actuates the switch against the action of a spring.
Switch T closes when roller F passes from part PI to part P2 of the template; it opens when said roller passes from part P2 to part PI. Such an automatic mechanism is however not essential; the operator could manually operate the drawer.
The AI arm of the pantograph is forked at its opposite ends, the fork of one end of this arm enclosing a fixed bearing U, to which the pantograph is fixed by the pivot B, and also tightening the A4 connecting rod. The fork of the other end of the arm AI encloses the arm A2 to which this arm AI is connected by a pin B3.
