Machine for working spherical surfaces of lenses or flat or curved surfaces of any object. The object of the invention is a machine for working spherical surfaces of lenses or flat or curved surfaces of any object.
In this machine, the relative displacement between the tool and the workpiece, necessary to obtain the polishing, is obtained by means of two connecting rods forming an angle with respect to each other and which are articulated, d 'on the one hand, with a common axis and, on the other hand, each with a crank pin adjustable radially on a rotary member rotating at a speed different from that of the other.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a side elevation with parts in section; Fig. 2 is a plan with parts in section, and FIG. 3 is a longitudinal section showing on a larger scale the end of one of the connecting rods and its connection to one of the driven organs. As shown, a pair of wheels 1 and 2 are mounted on each side of a driven wheel 3. This driven wheel 3 is mounted on a vertical shaft 4 on the lower end of which a lug 5 is fixed, which is actuated by a motor member, not shown. The wheel 3 is provided on its periphery with a toothing which engages with the corresponding toothings of the driven wheels 1 and 2. The driven wheels 1 and 2 are of different diameter so as to rotate at different speeds.
These wheels 1 and 2 are fixed on the upper end of axles 6, which are rotatably mounted in bearings 7, fixed on a base plate 8. On the upper face of each of the wheels 1 and 2 is fixed a pair of guide plates 9, and between each pair of these guide plates 9 are slidably mounted vertical pivots 10. The lower end of these vertical pivots 10 is cut in a dovetail and is housed between the plates. guide ques 9. On each of the pivots 10 is mounted a sleeve 12 provided with a flange and on each sleeve 12 is rotatably mounted a sleeve 13. Each pi vot 10 is fixed in its adjustment position by means of a bolt screwed onto its threaded end and engaging the sleeve 12.
To each of the sleeves 13 is connected the forked end 14 of a connecting rod 15 by means of a pair of threaded rods 16 having ends 17 of reduced diameter which engage in opposing cavities of the sleeves 13. A l 'Inside each of these connecting rods 15 is disposed a rod 18 which is retained therein by means of adjusting screws 19 screwed into stronger parts 20, formed at the outer end of these connecting rods 15. The outer end of each of these rods 18 is widened and pierced in order to receive a sleeve 21, which carries in an adjustable manner a vertical column 22, under the lower end of which the lens or other workpiece is placed.
The outer ends of the rods 18, which surround the sleeve 21, are retained in position one above the other, by means of locking nuts 23 screwed onto the upper part of the sleeve 21. A fixing screw 24 is screwed into the lower part of the sleeve so that the vertical column 22 can be adjusted and retained in position. The two arms which move in a substantially horizontal plane and are articulated together, form two sides of a triangle, the third side of which is a straight line passing through the two pivots or pegs 10 carried by the two driven wheels 1 and 2 and slidably adjustable thereon.
These pivots 10, thus placed at a certain distance from the center of rotation, can be adjusted between the plates 9 to vary the path of movement of the vertical column 22. Below this vertical column 22 is arranged a tool 25. This tool 25, which is curved, is removably mounted on a vertical cap 26 which is fixed on the base plate 8. The mechanism is enclosed in a casing 27 and the upper end of this casing 27 is closed by a mo bile plate 28 forming a cover. An opening 29 is provided at the front of the casing 27 to receive the connecting rods 15, and on these connecting rods 15 and to the housing 27 is fixed a flexible filter 30 for dust.
During the operation of the machine, a lens or the like, the surface of which is to be worked, is fixed in any known manner under the lower end of the vertical column 22, for example in a socket having in its central part a housing into which penetrates the conical tip of column 22 so as to guide the movement of this sleeve on the tool 25 on which the material to be polished is placed to work the surface. This tool has any curvature. When the pulley 5 is rotated, the wheels 1 and 2 rotate at different speeds through the wheel 3 disposed on the upper end of the driven shaft 4.
The rotation of the driven wheels 1 and 2 moves, by means of the connecting rods 15, 18, the vertical column 22 forward and backward along a curved path. Thus the surface of the workpiece is worked very efficiently and a careful hand finishing is avoided or reduced to a minimum.
It is clear that the movement can also be imparted to the two trailing wheels, for example by means of idle rotating intermediate wheels, or the wheels can be friction actuated. In any case, it is preferable that the difference in the speeds of the two driven wheels is reduced to a minimum, since a small difference is sufficient to work the surface in an efficient manner.
It is also clear that the surface working machine, described above, can be employed to work any material, such as lithographic stones, the surface of metal plates or other articles.
