<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Press for punching out timepieces The present patent relates to a press for punching out timepieces, to the exclusion of all other types of parts.
A press of this type is already known, comprising a punch mounted to slide in a frame against a return spring and subjected by its upper end to the action of a rotary cam which controls its axial movement.
In another press, the movement of the cam is transmitted to the punch by means of an oscillating arm articulated on the frame of the press so as to be able to be slid axially, in contact at one end with the edge of the cam and articulated on a sliding sleeve surrounding the punch by its other end.
A press is also known in which the end of the oscillating arm cooperating with the cam carries a device making it possible to vary the pressure transmitted to the punch by modifying the relative angular position of the arm with respect to the frame.
All these presses only allow parts of a single dimension to be driven out with the same cam, since the stroke of their punch cannot be varied. However, a similar problem has however already been solved for a fuel injection pump in which the stroke of the piston, movable axially under the action of a cam, is adjustable by varying the distance separating the head of this piston and the axis of rotation of the cam.
The present invention specifically relates to a press for driving out timepieces, comprising similar means making it possible to modify the stroke of the punch at will.
This press comprises a punch sliding against a return spring and a rotary cam controlling the axial movement of the punch by means of a stop member on which the cam acts through its edge, an intermediate element movable mechanically connecting this member to the punch, said member being formed by a threaded rod engaged with said intermediate element, the axial position of which is changed when it is desired to vary the stroke of the punch. This press is characterized by the fact that said return spring is disposed in a housing of the frame made parallel to the punch and which is stretched between a part of this frame and the end of the rod opposite the cam, which is freely engaged in housing.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention constituting a press for driving out watch stones.
Fig. 1 is an elevation in partial section. Fig. 2 a detailed sectional view.
In the drawing, the press comprises a frame formed of a base 1, on which stand, on the one hand, a vertical upright 2 having two brackets 3 and 4 and a support 5 and, on the other hand, a base 6 for a drive motor 7 of the press, the power of which is provided by a switch 8.
The bracket 3 is pierced with two parallel cylindrical housings 9 and 10; the first of these housings, 9, is coated at its two ends with bearings 11a and 11b, having a groove 12 constituting a reserve of lubricant supplied by grease nipples 13, and intended to reduce the friction exerted by a sliding sleeve 14 engaged in these pads. At its upper part, this sleeve is also engaged in a connecting piece 15 resting on a recess 14a of this sleeve.
The latter is also kept axially immobile by resting a graduated chicken 16 on an elastic support 17, which chicken is secured to a threaded rod
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
18 in engagement with the upper portion of the opening 19 of the sleeve. The length of the rod engaged in the sleeve is more or less important depending on the division of the chicken 16 which is carried in front of a mark not shown, drawn for example on the angled portion of the support 17.
In the opening 19 is also disposed a pin 20 maintained in contact with the rod 18 by its head 21 under the action of a spring 21a and the lower part of which is guided in a narrower portion 19a of the opening 19. .
This spindle 20 is provided with an opening 22, partially threaded, into which is screwed a sleeve 23. 24 is a punch of diameter corresponding to that of the hunting stone, slidably mounted in the sleeve 23 and of which a collar 25 is subjected to the action of a spring 26. The dimension of this punch as well as that of the sleeve 23 will of course be variable depending on the diameter of the stones to be driven out.
In the second housing 10 is disposed a spring 30 stretched between a ring 31 closing this housing at its lower part and the end of a rod 32 freely engaged in the upper part of the housing 10 and which is screwed into a corresponding opening of the part 15. This rod 32 is axially pierced with an opening 33 closed at its lower part by a threaded plug 34, the axial position of which in the rod can be modified by acting on a button 35 which a rod 36 has passed through the ring 31 and integral with this plug.
The opening 33 communicates with a second axial opening 37 passing through the upper part of the rod 32, in particular the control head 38, and in which a finger 39 is able to slide axially, the lower end of which is integral with a piston. 40, engaged in the opening 33 and subjected to a damping spring 41, and the upper end of which carries a ball 42.
This finger is intended to transmit, against the spring 30, an axial thrust in direction f, to the rod 32-part 15-sleeve 4 and pin 20 assembly exerted on the ball 42 by the edge of a rotary cam 43.
This cam consists of a disc mounted eccentrically on a shaft 44 pivoted in the support 5 and capable of being connected to a drive shaft 45, pivoted in the bracket 4, by a clutch 46 whose control is effected by exerting traction on an elastic blade 47 fixed to the end of a control pedal, not shown. The shaft 45 is connected to the motor by a gear 48 and a worm 49.
Under the sleeve 14 is disposed a support 50 on which is fixed and positioned by means not shown, a plate 51 to receive one or more stones.
Before starting the press, one proceeds to the adjustment of the stroke of the punch by more or less pronounced screwing of the rod 32 in the element 15, as well as the adjustment of its axial position in the guide sleeve by action on the chicken 16. A plate 51 is then placed on the support 50 and interconnects the driving shafts 45, and driven 44, by controlling the clutch 46.
The cam 43, which is in the raised position, diametrically opposite to that shown, moves for example in the clockwise direction and comes into contact by its edge, after a determined angular stroke, with the ball 42. The finger 39 begins with s 'press into the rod 32 against the spring 41 until the force developed by this spring becomes slightly greater than the friction forces existing between the element 15 and the frame of the machine, on the one hand, and between the sleeve 14 and the sleeves 11a and 11b, on the other hand. As soon as the sleeve 14 begins its vertical downward movement, the spring 30 compresses.
When the punch is applied to the part to be driven out, the spring 25 also compresses so that this punch begins by sinking into the spindle 20, then, when the axial force developed on the sleeve is equal to that exerted by the spring 26 on this punch, the press proceeds to embed the stone in the plate.
Thanks to the springs 25 and 41, this embedding operation is carried out with sufficient damping, on the one hand, so as not to damage either the stone or the plate, and, on the other hand, so that this stone comes to rest. place correctly in the opening intended for it.
When the embedding is finished, that is to say once the cam has reached its angular position shown in FIG. 1 in which it is in contact with the ball 42 by its most eccentric portion, the element 15 as well as the sleeve 14 and the rod 32 are brought upwards by the return spring 30. The rotation of the valve is then interrupted. the cam 43 by operating the clutch 46, in particular to replace the plate 51 with a new plate.
The described press can also be used to drive out timepieces other than stones, including pins, pillars, cogs, etc.
