Sheet separator for automatic feeders. The object of the present invention is a sheet separator for automatic feeders, established so as to separate the sheets at the rear of the stack, the separated sheet being lifted first by one or more nozzles, its transport being effected by other organs while one or more fingers hold the unseparated leaves by pressing them on the stack of leaves.
This separator comprises at least one support member on which is slidably mounted the body of the separator on which some of the members of the latter are articulated, as well as a rotary shaft placed parallel to the direction of movement of said body on this or these. supports and which is intended to actuate the orgarres of the separator, the assembly being arranged so as to be able to pivot about a common substantially horizontal axis, the whole so as to allow vertical adjustment, as well as horizontal displacement easy from the separator.
The appended drawing represents an embodiment of the object of the invention, given by way of example. Fig. 1 is an elevational view of the sheet separator apparatus with its operating mechanism; Fig.2 is a plan view of said apparatus with its operating mechanism; Fig. 3 shows the foot of the separator in its raised position, and FIG. 4 is a section taken along line a-a of FIG. 3 showing the nozzle in its lowered position.
A freely rotating shaft 1 (Fig. 2) in the frames 2 and 3 of an automatic feeder controls various feeder members not shown in the drawing. A revolution of the shaft 1 corresponds to the different movements necessary for the separation and advancement of a leaf. A double horseshoe-shaped bearing 4 oscillates freely on the shaft 1, and carries, rigidly mounted in a collar 6, a bar 5. The bar 5 supports a body 7 of the sheet separator. The end of the bar 5, opposite the collar 6, is notched in the form of a fork 8 allowing a threaded rod 9 to pass between its branches, rigidly mounted on a spacer 10 of the feeder.
A nut 11 screwed onto the rod 9 supports the bar 5 and allows the end of this bar to be raised or lowered at will, resting on it, the double bearing 4 then oscillating around the shaft 1. A keyed bevel gear 12; on the shaft 1 transmits the rotational movement of the latter to the shaft 13 via a bevel pinion 14 pinned to a wheel 15 which meshes with a wheel 16 keyed on the shaft 13. The bevel pinion 14 and the wheel 15 turn idle on a journal 17 fixed in the bearing 4. The shaft 13 parallel to the bar 5 rotates freely in a branch 18 of the bearing 4 and titi bearing 19 of the support 20 mounted rigidly on the bar 5.
The body 7 of the sheet separator carries two arms 21 and 22 forming bearings with a sleeve 23 sliding on the shaft 13. The sleeve 23 which is driven in the rotational movement of the shaft 13 by a keyway 24, carries cams 25 and 26 acting nating the members of the sheet separator. The bush 23 held by the arms 21 and 22 follows the movements of the support 7 sui, the bar 5, a screw 27 making it possible to block the support on the bar 5 once the adjustment is complete.
The organs of the leaf separator are made up of titi sucker 28 and titi pied 2 9 (fig. 3 and 4).
The nozzle 28 is mounted on a support 31 sliding vertically in a recess 32 made in the body known as the separator 7. A right-angle lever 33 rotating freely on the journal 34 fixed to the arm 35 bears on one of the rolling branches 36. on the cam 25. The other branch of the lever 33 carries titi finger 37 which is placed under the support 3t. The cam 25 in its rotation swings the lever 33 around its journal 34.
The finger 37 lifts the support 31 to which the nozzle 28 is fixed. The support 31 then slides into the housing 32.
A spring 38 causes the downward movement of the support 31 or of the nozzle 28 and maintains the roller 36 in contact with the cam 25 when the nozzle is lowered. A foot 29 carries a countersink 39, in the shape of an obtuse angle. This countersink moves on a fixed journal 40 mounted on the branch 22 of the sheet separator. The upper end of the foot 29 pivots on the lever 30 by the journal 41. The lever with two opposite arms 30 pivots around the axis 42. The opposite branch of the lever 31) carries a titi roller 43 rolling on the cam 26. In its rotation, the cam 26 actuates the lever 30 in a reciprocating movement.
The spiral spring 44 causes the. rise of the lever 30 and keeps the roller 43 in contact with the cam 26.
During the descent of the lever 30 respec tively of the foot 29, the groove 39 sliding on the journal 40 firstly causes the end of the foot 29 to penetrate under the sheet and lowers the foot onto the stack of sheets.
During the lifting movement, the groove 39 first causes a vertical lifting movement, then titi backward movement to allow. the sheet sucked by the nozzle 28 to pass in front of the foot 29.
The organs are so arranged that the nozzle 28 is first lowered to the stack level for the suction of the top sheet, then it lifts this sheet while the foot 29 is lifted and moved out of the way of the sheet. When the latter is raised, the foot 29 lowers to come and press on the sheets of the stack.
The operation of the separator is as follows. The shaft I by its rotation drives the cams 25 and 26 of the sheet separator, these cams working in accordance with the other movements of the feeder.
When changing the format of the sheets passing them through the feeder, the screw 27 is loosened and the sheet separator can be moved, the body 7 sliding on the bar and the bush 23 sliding on, the shaft 13. , the screw 27 is blocked. The stacks of sheets being able to present inequalities in their leveling, one small, by actuating the nut 11, to make raise or lower the separator, the bar 5 and the bearing 4 oscillating around the shaft. 1 until the separator is at the correct height for its operation.
If during a faulty adjustment the stack of sheets rises too quickly compared to the departure of the sheets or if for some other reason the level of the sheets rises at a speed greater than that at which the upper part of the stack decreases, the bar 5 and the support 4 oscillate around the shaft 1, the fork 8 sliding on the threaded rod 9, which prevents any breakage of parts.
The arrangement of the separator described above, mounted on a support parallel to a shaft actuating the members of the separator, the assembly being able to pivot about a common axis, allows very easy and simple adjustment of the position of the separator in relation to at the top edge of the stack of sheets, just as it makes it possible, for the same separator, to take both very small and large sheets.
The separator body could slide on more uti support.
The socket 23 could carry only one cam or could carry more skies. .
The separator could be operated by a shaft other than the feeder drive shaft. .
