<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Improvements to paper cutting machines
This invention relates to paper-cutting machines 1, of the kind in which a knife is moved in an oblique direction, in a vertical plane, by means of slides with which it is provided, and by means of which it rolls on rollers mounted between the two parallel frames of the cutting machine
In machines of this kind) it frequently happens that the knife, originally provided with a perfectly horizontal cutting edge, takes after a certain time, either by. the wear of the guide slides, or by repeated sharpening, a position slightly deviated from its normal position so that, during its' descent on the table sup4 carrying the paper to be cut ,.
he no longer slices the stack of sheets parallel to the support table, but rather by forming a certain angle with it; so that
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
some sheets are cut at one end of the knife only and remain uncut or are torn off at the other end resulting in irregular machine operation, loss of production, and heavy waste *
The object of the current invention is to remedy this drawback and to make possible a certain adjustment of the knife so as to allow the raising or lowering of one of its ends with respect to the other, and thus always ensuring a regular cut
For this purpose, the invention is characterized by the fact that one of the guide rollers of the knife is mounted on an axis forming an eccentric,
and carrying, outside the frame, an operating handle allowing the roller to take different positions resulting in raising or lowering to a certain extent one of the ends of the knife. it is possible when the cutting edge of the knife presents a certain obliquity with respect to the surface of the machine table, to bring it back to a position strictly parallel to the face of the table so as to restore its regular cutting action
The attached drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the inventions
Figure 1 gives an elevational view of the machine,
the knife being in its normal action position
Figure 2 is a similar view showing the knife in a slightly oblique position making some adjustment necessary!
Figure 3 is a plan view of the machine.
Figure 4 shows separately, in execution size and in section, the mode of action of the eccentric roller in the slide of the knife.

The machine shown comprises, as usual, a frame formed of two parallel uprights 1 and 3 (Figure 3) between which the plate 3 serving as a knife port can be placed, and to which the knife properly 4 is attached.
The knife-holder plate 3 forms a housing 5 for a slide 6 provided with arms 7 to which are articulated the two connecting rods 8 receiving their movement of the control mechanism of the machine, a mechanism consisting, in the example chosen, by a shaft 9 carrying , on one side, a crank plate 10 and on the other a gear 11 also serving as a crank plate The gear 11 is actuated by a toothed return wheel 12 carried by a shaft 13 on which a toothed wheel is wedged 14 controlled by a toothed wheel 15 mounted on the shaft 16 rotated by the flywheel 17 in the case of a machine 4 controlled by hand or by any other transmission of force in the case of a mechanical control machine
In a machine like this,
as is well known, the knife holder plate 3 has two parallel and inclined slides 16 by which the knife moves obliquely, in a vertical plane, on rollers 17-18 carried by pins 19 in the two frames 1 and 2,
In a similar construction, the machine being suitably adjusted, during the rotation of the gear 11 and the crank plate 10, the cutting edge 4 of the knife receives a lifting and lowering movement by means of the cranks 8, If the knife is in a position parallel to the table 20 on which the paper 21 to be cut is stacked,
the cut of this paper is carried out regularly * 11 is no longer the same if the edge 4 -rient 1 take a slightly oblique position as indicated in figure 2. In this case, when the end- moth 22 of the knife edge has reached its
