automatic width. The object of the present invention is an automatic feeder for supplying the sheets to printing presses or to very small machines employing paper; it comprises at least a pair of movable arms carrying vacuum cleaners which remove the sheet from the pile of paper. sheets to put it back to (the grippers also carried by said arms and which take it by the edges to bring it to the machine on which it is to be used.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, one embodiment of the object (the invention.
The end. 1 is. a schematic side view of said embodiment; Figures 2 and 3 are respectively, top views, the first, of the conveyor device, taken in the direction of arrow A (end-. t ), the second, a view from above of the motor device and the organs (the suction, taken in the direction of arrow B (end-. 1); The fi, -. 4 and 5 represent in side view and in sight from above, one of the grippers for gripping the sheet (the paper; Figs. 6 and 'i are respectively a top view and an end view of one of the suction separators;
Fig. 8 is a side view of a detail. The feeder according to the attached drawing is arranged on a horizontal table a on which is placed a stack al of sheets of paper and its end rests on an inclined table <I> b. </I> The table <I> a </ I> has supports c and c \ carrying a shaft d, -rotating, provided with a drive wheel dl, rotated by any device, not shown in the drawing. Movable arms, formed respectively of spacers e el and e = e3, joined in pairs at their front ends, by a part. f, respectively f1, are rotatably mounted on the shaft d, by which they are supported.
The rotating shaft d carries two conical toothed wheels d = mounted between the spacers e el and. e = e3 of each pair and each meshing with another bevel gear g or g1. The latter which, when the machine is in operation, rotate in the opposite direction, are mounted at one of the ends of shafts h and hl, arranged between the spacers e el and ez e3 respectively.
The front ends of these same shafts h and hl each carry a bevel gear g respectively g3. The toothed wheels g2 g3 mesh with bevel gears i and il which are each mounted on a shaft Ic respectively. kl, inclined, shafts which are mounted on parts f respectively f1 and including. the lower ends rest. on the table has the feeder and serve as median supports for the movable arms.
These shafts carry spacers L and h, fixed to the parts <I> f </I> and f 1 by means of screws f 'f3 and the front ends of which are provided with shafts m and ml, fixed to these spacers. The lower extremities of the m and ml shafts serve as support for the ends of the movable arms.
The transporter device is made up of chains n and n1, moved, when the machine is running, by toothed wheel keys o o1 and o "&; it is mounted on said inclined shafts h and <I> P, in </ I > and -m.1 and is actuated by bevel gears i and it meshing with bevel gears g2 g3, as seen above.
The chains n and n1, of the conveyor device, which move, when the feeder is working, in the direction indicated by arrows 1 and 2 (fig. 2), each carry, at a determined point of their length. , a clamp p or pl, the opening movements of which for gripping a key sheet of paper or its release, are controlled by members <I> r </I> r1 and rz r3 placed at the ends of the spacers <I> l </I> and <I> h. </I> These clamps (fig. 4 and 5) have skies plates pl p3,
screwed on one of the mail lons of chains n and n1. The upper plates p2 carry a bent arm p4 which can oscillate on an axis p ', provided on the plate p =. The end p 'of the bent arm p4 is hand held in position against the plate p3 by means of an elastic device comprising a rod p' held in position by a spring p '. The end p 'of the bent arm p4 is. rounded in shape and is moved while the machine is in operation.
by one of the key bodies <I> r </I> r1 and r 'r3 respectively, when it passes under one of the aforementioned bodies, as will be seen below.
The suction separators, which are two in number, are mounted respectively at the ends of the spacers e and e3, each pair of which has for this purpose a rounded protrusion on which the separator mounted therein can oscillate. These suction separators, one of which is shown in fig. 6 and 7, each comprise a member s with heavens arms <I> SI </I> s = arranged on either side (the shafts h, respectively, hl, and able to oscillate on the rounded extension of the spacers e and e3 The SI arms rest on s3 cam wrenches, mounted at the end of the shafts h, respectively hl,
cams the rotation of which controls the oscillating movements of the components s with the s1 s2 arms. On each arm s = and by means of a plate <B> SI, </B> fixed to the end of said arm SI, is mounted a pump cylinder s' whose bottom is connected by means of a connecting rod <I> SI </I> to a journal s7 arranged on a toothed wheel meshing with a toothed wheel s', mounted at the key end one key shafts h or hl respectively and which is set in rotation, when the machine is in operation, by one key these said shafts.
The cylinder s' of the pump has at its lower end a suction cup sl, movable with. the cylinder s' and the <I> IF </I> arm and that is. for lifting the sheet of paper located at the top of the stack al of sheets, placed on the table a.
The feeder also comprises a lateral adjustment device, shown in FIGS. 2 and 8 and comprising a rule t1 fixed on the table b (fig. 2) and a rule P movable on skies links 1.3 14 parallel to each other, mounted on a support t ', also resting on the table b and provided with a slide <B> 13 </B> and a fixing screw <I> t ', </I> making it possible to bring the mobile rule t = clans a desired position. This moving rule t = is. for view of a buttress.
in the form of a cam t3 against which a finger t 'mounted on the chain n1 and moving. with it, as it passes behind said buttress. The wise step of the finger. <B> it </B> on the contour of the counter strong t \ causes the advancement of the mobile rule t which, due to the parallelism of the rods t- <B> It </B> will move parallel to the rule t 'while making a longitudinal movement in the direction in which the paper moves.
The movable rule t = is brought into position after the passage of the finger t "over the buttress. 1s, by means of an elastic device not shown in the accompanying drawing.
The operation of the feeder is as follows: The shaft d set in rotation by the driving wheel d ', coupled to a crrielcon motor, rotates the beveled bevel wheels d' and d3 which, by means of the toothed wheels d and çyl transmit their rotation to shafts h and hl.
These, by means of the bevel gears 92 i and gl <I> il </I> set in motion the chains n <I> and </I> n ', mounted on the wheels oo' and o2 (lu Conveyor device The rotating shafts h and hl simultaneously actuate the suction separators by means of cams s, mounted at the end of said shafts.
A stack of paper having been placed on the table of the feeder, the sales s "(the suction separators will, at a predetermined moment, cry out from the movements of the cams s7, which will present a device. adjustment allowing.
to vary their action on said separators, apply by the fact of their oscillating movement, on either side, on the upper face of the sheet of paper placed at the upper part of the stack al el, at when the s3 cams return. upwards the ends of the suction separators, the suction cups will lift this sheet (the paper with them, the aspiration of the pumps being carried out at the time said upward movement of said suction cups.
The position of the clamps p pl on the chains n and nl, as well as the speed at which they will move, will be such that the clamps will grip the sheet <B> (the </B> paper lifted by the suction cups towards the end of the upward movement of the latter, at which point the suction of the vents ends; and will bring it over the inclined table b, to bring it to the printing machine, for example.
Before grasping the sheet of paper lifted by the suction cups, the clamps p and pl pass under the organs r or r against which the parts p1 of their respective bent arm prl will rest, which will determine the opening of the clamp. The duration of this opening, that is. very short, stops immediately. due the parts p 'of the bent arms are no longer in contact with the members r or r.
These same parts p1 by the way. under the organs or i- ', similar to the previous ones, mounted there. the anterior end (the spacers l and h, will perform the opening (the clamps p and <I> pi '</I> for the release of the old sheet of paper which will slide on the inclined table b, table on which it will be conducted in the direction desired by the <B> il </B> t = rules as we have seen above.
The gear train operating the separators at. suction and the conveying device will be chosen in such a way because the grippers always come to grip the sheet of paper when it has been lifted by said separators. These conditions will easily be obtained by means of the adjustable cams sl.
The supports c and cl of the motor shaft cl may be fitted with a device allowing both the spacing of the shafts h and hl to be adjusted, depending on the width of the sheets of paper in the stack a '. This device, which is not shown in the accompanying drawing, but which is easy to imagine, may include (the racks or endless screws, the setting in motion of which will move the aforementioned two supports, by the desired distance. The conical toothed wheels d2 and, d3 will then be mounted on keys along which they will be able to slide during movement (The spacing of said supports.
The spacers e c 'and e2 e @ can also slide on the shaft d.
Several pliers can be placed on the chains n. and <I> n '</I> so as to effect the transport. several sheets of paper per turn of the chain. The movable arms can be provided with a device enabling them to be lifted and held in the raised position while the feeder is at rest or while paper is being fed to the table a. The feeder may be fitted with a warning device indicating to the person in charge of its operation that the stack of paper al is drawing to its end. The movable arms can also be connected to one another at any point along their length; by a rod or the like.
The size and shape of the various organs of the feeder which is the object of the invention, can. differ from those shown in the accompanying drawing.
