Sheet feeder device. The object of the present invention is a sheet feeder apparatus particularly applicable to so-called "duplicating machines" of the type employing a rotating drum.
This apparatus comprises a device for automatically and simultaneously controlling: a mechanism for determining the duration of contact of a looper member acting on the front end of the upper sheet of a stack of sheets to separate this sheet from the stack, a mechanism for determining the spacing between this looper member and a support member exerting pressure on the top sheet behind the looped portion, and a mechanism for determining the amount of pressure with which the sheet is pressed. a battery is pressed onto the looper member.
The appended drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention representing a machine provided with the feeder apparatus, in which the three aforementioned settings and that of an indicator are established. so that they can be carried out simultaneously and automatically.
Fig. 1 shows a side elevation of the machine; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the machine; Fig. 3 is a partial side elevation on a larger scale, seen from the same side as FIG. 1, but with different torn off edges; Fig. 4 is a vertical section taken along line 4-4 of FIG. 2; Fig. 5 is a horizontal section taken along line 5-5 of FIG. 3; Fig. 6 is a vertical section taken along line 6-6 of FIG. .3.
As shown in the drawing, the machine comprises an ordinary rotating drum or cylinder 1, capable of being set by means of the hand crank 2 or by means of a belt connection connecting a suitable motor to the pulley 3 mounted. on shaft 4 of the drum.
A stack of sheets to be fed into the machine is placed on the table 5 and on the apron 5 ', between gizides I and 8, the leading edges of the sheets being i below the regulating plate 9. During the operation. rotation of the drum, the loopers, comprising the feed rollers 10 mounted on the shaft 11, take up the leading edge of the top sheet with the paper curling or curling between the feed rollers and the feeders. 'support,
comprising the breaking or paper load rod 12, and the sheet advances through the machine between the feed rollers and the friction rollers 13 arranged above the former, in the known manner.
In the machine shown, a vertical plate 14 is attached to the right side of the machine. This plate carries a projection 15 forming a rim fixed to its upper part. The curved upper surface of protrusion 15 has a graduated scale with appropriate indicia, as seen at 16. This scale may have the word #thin "on one end and the word # thick" on the other end and numbers 1 to 7 or any other appropriate numbers between the two words.
An index 17 is so arranged that it can be moved on the scale 16 and brought into a suitable position to indicate the rewinding of the machine for feeding, for example, one sheet at a time. paper of particular quality and thickness.
The various adjustments are all carried out by means of a hand crank 18 fixed to a rod 19 mounted in the plate 14. The rod 19 carries a bevel gear 20, on the internal side of the plate 14, this wheel meshing with a bevel gear 21 mounted on a shaft 22 arranged so as to. be able to rotate in supports 23, 29: arranged on the internal face of the. plate 14. The shaft 22 is provided with a thread and carries a nut 25 preferably having the shape of a yoke and having two separate threaded parts, mounted on the screw 22.
When the adjusting crank is turned in one direction or the other, the nut 25 moves in one direction or the other, along the screw 22. A connecting rod 26 is attached to an upper projection of the. nut 25, at 27. and the other end or forward end of this connecting rod is pivotally connected as seen at 28, to a thin disc 29 mounted so as to be rotatable on a rod 30 extending through the plate 14. This rotating disc 29 has an upper projection 31- to which the index 17 is fixed.
A sector 32 is mounted so as to be able to rotate on the rod 30, immediately on the other side (the plate 14. This sector is provided with a peripheral rim part which is toothed so as to constitute an internally toothed wheel part. , as seen at 33. The sector is provided with a part 34 mounted so as to be able to turn on the rod 30.
The disc 29 carries a rod 35 extending outwards and passing through a mortise 36 pierced in the plate 14 and also through a mortise 37 pierced in the web 3.1 of the sector 32. The mortises 36 and 37 are curved along ares concentric with the rod 30. The rod 35 carries a pinion 38 in. grating with the teeth .33 of the sector 32. A pinion 39 is mounted on the rod 35 outside the pinion 38 and meshes with a toothed wheel 40 mounted on the rod 30. A disc-cam 41 is concentric with. toothed wheel 40 and is attached to this wheel or to one. room with it.
This disc-cam is held in place by a nut 42 screwed onto the outer end of the rod 30.
It is evident from the foregoing that, when turning the hand crank 18, the disc 29 is made to oscillate in one direction of rotation or the other. This movement results in a corresponding rotation of the pin 38 around its axis, because it moves in a circular path around the axis of the rod 30 and it is at the same time obliged to turn because it meshes with the teeth. 33 of circular rack 32. Pinion 39 rotates with pinion 38 and rotates wheel 40 to adjust cam 41 to one angular position or another.
The shaft 43 is constantly driven by a rotational movement, during the operation of the machine, thanks to a series of idler gears 4.1, to. from the shaft 6 of the hand crank 2 which is connected by gears to the shaft 4 of the rotating drum. A pair of cams 46, 47 are fixed to the shaft 43, on the outer side in front of the plate 14. Uil angled lever pivotally mounted at 48 on the outer face of the plate 14 is provided with two arms 49 and 50 bearing rollers at their outer ends, these rollers being respectively engaged with the cams 46 and 47. The bent lever is also provided with an arm 51 extending downwards and at the end of which a connecting rod 52 is articulated. , the other end of which is articulated at 53 to the core 34 of the sector 32.
The cams 46 and 47 are arranged or traced so as to make the angled lever oscillate around the rod 48, once every two turns of the hand crank 2, the ratio of the gears between the shafts 43 and 6 being two. has a. When the elbow lever oscillates, the circular rack 32 oscillates forward and backward and the cam 41 oscillates in the opposite direction to that of the circular rack, under the action of the pinions 38 and 39.
The breaking rod or paper loading rod 12 has ends 12 'of reduced diameter mounted in mortises 54 drilled in the side arms 55 of the breaking or paper loading frame 55', the arms 55 being mounted at pivot at 56, 56 'and a spring 57 tending to maintain the paper load frame in the lowered position. The end parts 12 'of the rod 12 are articulated at the ends of the connecting rods 58, 58' connected by an articulation to the ends of the levers 59, 59 'capable of oscillating on the rods 56, 56'. A connecting rod 61 is articulated relative to one end of the lever 59, at a point 62 located below the pivot 56 and the other end of this connecting rod is connected to the disc 29, at 63.
The lower end of the lever 59 is connected by a connecting rod 64 and an arm 65 (fig. 3) to a rod 66 which extends across the machine and is supported so as to be able to rotate in the lateral members. 67 of the machine. At its opposite end, the shaft 66 is connected, by arms 6 <B> 5 </B> 'and the connecting rod 64', to the lever 59 'pivotally mounted at 56' relative to the adjacent part 67 of the frame side of the machine. The connecting rod 58 'pivotally connects the upper end of the lever 59' to the adjacent end of the paper load rod 12.
Obviously, when the hand crank 18 is rotated clockwise, to advance the index 17 from the thin end to the thick end. "of scale 16, the disc 29 oscillating in a corresponding manner, the levers 59 and 59 'rotate around their pivots in a counterclockwise direction, as seen in FIGS. 3 and 4, so as to move the rod 1.2 to the left, that is to say so that it is separated .d'a more distance .grande from the feed rollers 10.
It follows that, when the members have been adjusted in this direction, the rod 12, during the operation of the machine, presses on the upper sheet placed on the table 5 at a greater distance from the feed rollers 10. Similarly , when the hand crank 18 is rotated counterclockwise, the index 17 moves towards the thin end "of the scale 16 and the levers 59-, 59 'move in the direction opposite so that the rod 12 is brought to meet the top sheet at a point closer to the feed rollers 10.
The table 5 is pivotally supported at its rear end, on the rod 68. Against the underside of this table 5 is fixed a hollow plate 69, and a lever 70 is fixed to one end of a shaft 71 and door to its other end a roller 72 engaged in the mortise of the plate 69.
When the table 5 oscillates around its pivot 68, the shaft 71 oscillates in a corresponding manner and vice versa, the shaft 71 being supported in the opposing lateral parts 67 of the machine. A bias 72 'is attached to the shaft 71 and a coil spring 73 extends forward from the lower end of this arm. The front end of this spring is fixed to a member 74. An arm 75, connected to the member 74, is fixed by its upper end to a rod 76 supported so as to be able to rotate in the internal face of the body. plate 14.
The lower end of the arm 75 is fork-shaped and is engaged with the member 74. A lever arm 77 is also fixed to the rod 76, this arm 77 carrying at its lower end or before a roller 78 which door against the periphery of a cam 79 fixed to the disc 29.
When the hand crank 18 is turned in an appropriate direction to advance the index 17 to the right, on scale 16, that is to say towards the ends of this scale marked # thick ", the disc 29 and the cam 79 are driven by a partial rotational movement so as to lower the roller 78 and, consequently, so as to move the arm 75 to the left (fig. 3), in order to increase the tension of the spring 73. As a result, the table 5 further presses the sheets of paper upwards against the feed rollers 10.
Likewise, when the crank 18 is turned in the opposite direction, the tension of the spring 73 is reduced, <B> this </B> which decreases the pressure that the table 5 exerts upwards on the sheets of paper.
A third adjustment, ie the variation of the time during which the paper is pressed against the underside of the feed rollers 10, is effected by the adjustment of the cam 41. An arm 80, located on the ex side. of the plate 14, is fixed by its upper end to a shaft 81 mounted by one of its ends so as to be able to turn in the plate 14 and by its opposite end in a plate 82 mounted on the base 83 of the machine , beyond, the side frame 67, on the other side of the machine. The arm 80 carries, at its lower end, a roller 84 resting against the surface of the cam 41. During the operation of the machine, the cam 41 oscillates forwards and backwards, as has already been said, and causes it to oscillate. the arch 81.
The arm 72 'which, as has already been said, is fixed to the shaft 71, is provided with a rear extension 85, this arm having key teeth 86 formed on its rear end. A second lever 87 is mounted on the shaft 71 so as to rotate freely around this shaft. This lever is provided with an extension 88 directed downwards, from the shaft 71. The arm 88 is connected by a coil spring 89 to the rear part of the base 83, this spring being afraid of the purpose of permitting ground. arm 87 up.
A rod 90 is carried by the rear end of the arm 87 and an arm 91 fixed to the shaft 81 constantly bears on this rod. The arm 87 is pushed upwards by the res out 89; the purpose of this spring is to keep the roller 84 constantly applied against the edge of the cam 41.
A ratchet holder 92 is pivotally mounted on the rod 90 so as to extend upwardly from that rod. A res comes out 93, fixed at one end to the organ. 92 and by its other end to the arm 87, constantly tends to oscillate the member 92 to the right (fig. 4). A pawl: 94 mounted on the member 92 is. arranged to pray with the ratchet teeth 86 so that when the member 92 is lowered the pawl engages one of the ratchet teeth to oscillate the arm 85 towards the arm and hence to lower the table 5.
The pawl holder 92 is provided with a roller 95 intended to engage with the lower edge of a part 96 fixed to the side-mounted member 67 key when the member 92 rises, so as to . push member 95 to the left (fig. 4), to release pawl 94 from ratchet 86.
The key operation of this part of the mechanism is as follows. Adjusting the hand lever 18 places the cam 41 in one position or another relative to the roller 84. When the hand crank 18 is moved to oscillate the index 17 to the right, that is to say towards the "thick" end of the scale 16, the cam 41 is adjusted so that the lower part 97 of its periphery is in contact with the roller 84 for the greater part. of the forward and backward movement of the cam 41 and so that the raised part 98 key the cam is in contact with the roller for a shorter time.
However, when the index-17 is moved to the "thin" end of the scale 16, the roller 84 contacts the raised portion 98 of the cam during most of the movement and is in contact with it. the lower part 97 only for a short period of each operating time.
When the roller 84 rises on the upper part 98 (the cam, starting from the lower part, the arm 91 is pushed downwards and the pawl 94 engages with a chu ratchet tooth 86 and drives the latter towards down, by lowering the table 5 which is kept in the lowered position until the roller 84 leaves the raised part 98 to come on the lower part 97 of the cam 41. When this movement occurs, the table 5 s 'raises to its upper position, the pawl 94 being pushed out of engagement with the ratchet 86 by the meeting of the roller 95 with the part 96.
As a result, the table is in its upper position with the pressure of the spring 73 pushing it upwards, for a longer period for each cycle of operations, when the hand crank 18 is rotated (the way to move index 17 to the right of Fig. 3.
During the operation of the machine, if it is noticed that the feed rollers 10 do not take each top sheet in the desired order, it is only necessary to turn the crank 18 to the right until each sheet is taken properly. If, on the other hand, two or more sheets are taken at a time, the crank 18 is turned to the left to decrease the pressure of the spring 73, the contact time and the distance between the rod 12 and the feed rollers, up to that only one sheet is taken for each operation.
It should be understood that the invention is not limited to the exact details of construction described but that this invention; must be. taken in its broadest sense. For the sake of clarity, different details of construction of the duplicator as it existed prior to the present invention have neither been shown nor described.
