<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

"Device for performing operations on a sheet of corn fed continuously or intermittently"
The present invention relates to a device for carrying out operations, for example stamping or printing, on a web of material fed continuously or intermittently passing over a circular cylindrical roller or drum, device by which the distance between any two successive operations can in principle be preset at will.

Other details and features of the invention will emerge from the description below, given by way of nonlimiting example and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which

FIG. 3 shows the device during the execution of the operation.
Figure 4 shows the position of the food * at the moment when the working roller 4 ceases its contact with the tablecloth 1.
In FIGS. 1 to 4 which represent the same device in different operating positions, a strip of material, for example a strip of paper, bears the reference 1. The strip or sheet 1 is carried on a roller 2 which rotates around it. a shaft 3. Another roller 4, which rotates around a shaft 5, is provided with a cutout 6 and a weight 10. The roller 4 is further provided with a locking pin 9 against which is intended to act a locking bar 8, which is actuated by means of a lifting magnet.
To carry out the operation, the roller 4 $ is further provided with a stamping tool 11, by means of which stampings 12 are carried out in the web or web of material.
In Figure 1, the device is shown with the working roller 4 in the locked position. The web of material 1 is transported to the haat over the roll 2 rotating simultaneously, while the roll 4 is not connected with the web of material 1 and the roll 2, because of the fact that the cut-out part 6 of the roll 4 is in front of the material web 1. The roll 4 is held in the locked position by the Locking bar 8 acting on the locking pin 9.
When stamping is to be carried out in the web of material 1, the lifting magnet 7 receives a current from a pulsed device, not shown, which can either be controlled.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
die by the displacement of the free sheet or its drive system, or by a totally arbitrary program.
When receiving a pulse, the electromagnet 7 raises the locking bar 8 acting on the locking pupil 9, with the result that the roller 4 is released and is caused to rotate clockwise. 'a watch around its shaft 5, under the action of the weight 10, up to the position shown in figure 2.
The lower part of the cut-out section 6 of the roller 4 is brought by the rotating action of the roller 4 into contact with the web of material 1, after which the latter drives, by its upward movement and by friction , the roller with it to give this roller a practically non-slip rotational movement along the surface of the web of material 1. When the working roller 4 rolls along the web 1, as shown in fig. - re 3, the stamping tool 11, protruding from the surface of this roller 4, will be pushed back into the web 1 and will consequently perform a stamping operation therein. After roll 4 has turned approximately one turn,
it will be in the position shown * in FIG. 4. In the latter, it will again be separated from the sheet of material 1, when the upper edge of the cutout 6 breaks its contact with the sheet. Due to the fact that the weight 10 exerts a pivoting force on the water roller 4, it will continue to rotate clockwise until the locking pin 9 reaches the bar 8 which has. again at this point assumed its locking position, after which the position shown in Figure 1 is resumed.
The web of material 1, which during the operations has received the stamped back 12, continues its upward movement, after which the device is ready to carry out a new stamping operation.
As can be seen from the descrip-
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
above, the operation is not carried out at the same moment when the impulse is sent to the lifting magnet 7 and, consequently, one must take into account the distance of which the sheet 1 is advance between the moment of the impulse and the execution of the operation.
Since this distance, however (neglecting the displacement of the web during the interval between the supply of the pulse and the moment of contact between the roll and the web), is practically equal in all cases and practical - independent of speed, this presented no * difficulty in most cases.
With the device described above, it is thus possible to carry out operations such as, for example, stamping, in the sheet-like material 1 of such aorta that the stampings or impressions appear at a certain interval. - them or with a certain relation to a drawing already printed on the web.
In the first water indicates, the working roller 4 can for example be released by a pulse device which is controlled by members connected to the drive of the sheet and, in the last case, by a system to photoelectric cell. As indicated above, it is also possible to control the impulse device which releases the working roll, according to any program for the purpose in which one can for example use a perforated tape, a magnetic tape or a magnetic tape. analogous element for controlling the pulse device.
With the device described above, it is even possible to modify the lateral position of the operation performed, by moving rollers 2 and 4 laterally on shafts 3 and 5, respectively *
As emerges from the description above, the device allows very wide possibilities of modification in and concerning the execution of the required operations, as well as in this respect.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
which concerns their position relative to the layer of material,
the alita device = * thus revealed to be very advantageous to use, in particular in cases where different operations must be carried out * with varying distances between them on a material of different width. In special cases, it will be advantageous to drive the roller 4 by means of a separate motor, in order to prevent slipping between the surface of the web and the surface of the roller 4.
