la fig. 2 une coupe selon II-II de la fig. 1 ;
la fig. 4 une vue selon IV-IV de la fig. 3 ;
la fig. 6'une coupe selon VI-VI de la fig. 5 ;
Device comprising a drum for driving a flexible strip
The present invention relates to a device comprising a drum for driving a flexible strip.
Devices of this type are already known comprising a drum provided on its edge with teeth or spikes intended to engage in one or more series of perforations made dams the strip to be driven; this training mode is however impractical when it comes to moving a relatively small width strip, for example 1 cm, in particular a strip intended to receive a graphic trace during its training.
In addition, the precision of such a drive is directly dependent on that of the perforations; when the strip is made of paper. thin, the edges of these perforations can very easily become distorted or torn during training, so the recorded measurements are in some cases questionable.
The same problem also arises in printing machines, in particular those intended for polychrome printing carried out by passing a strip of continuous paper in contact with different inking rollers; in these machines, it is in fact very important that the driving of the strip is completely constant so that the superposition of the different colors is perfect.
The same applies to printing machines intended for the simultaneous printing of both sides of a strip of paper, in particular in the case of the manufacture of banknotes or securities for which the precision of printing is very important.
The device which is the subject of the present invention aims to obviate the cited drawbacks and for this purpose it is characterized by the fact that the drum comprises spikes mounted to slide in housings made in the edge of the drum, means maintaining these points in the retracted position in their housing at the least that the corresponding proportion of the slice is not brought into contact with your strip and, on the contrary, making them protrude on the edge of the strip at least as soon as this contact is made, se, lc to, utt in ways that the pneumatic tips. trent in the:
tape to ensure the entrainment or release and without practicing longitudi- nal tears in the surface of this tape.
The appended drawings show three embodiments of the device which is the subject of the present invention.
Fig. 1 is a transverse view of the first embodiment, and
fig. 2 a section along II-II of FIG. 1;
fig. 3 is a cut. transverse of the second embodiment, and
fig. 4 a view along IV-IV of FIG. 3;
fig. 5 is a cross section of the third embodiment, and
fig. 6'a section along VI-VI of FIG. 5;
fig. 7 is a cross section of a variant of the first embodiment, and
fig. 8 a section along VIII-VIII of FIG. 7.
In its first embodiment (Figs. 1 and 2), the drum of the device comprises a flange 1 wedged on a motor shaft 2 and supporting a crown 3, coated on the external supersatranche with a conduit 4.
The crown 3 is pierced with radial housings 5 connected to the interior face of the oouironne by passages 6; to the right of each housing 5, the sleeve 4 is pierced with an opening 7 of small diameter. In each housing is slid a piston 8 whose radially inner face is provided with a foot 9 while its outer face has a tip 10. This foot is engaged in the passage 6 and the tip in the opening 7 of the sleeve 4 The piston is subjected to the action of a spring 11 arranged in the housing 5 and stretched between the external face of the piston and the internal face of the sleeve.
Sou, s the action of this spring, the piston presses against the bottom of the housing 5 and the tip 10 is fully retracted into the drum while the foot 9 protrudes inside it by a length corresponding to that of the tip when it is in the extended position, as will be described below.
In the exemplary embodiment shown in figs 1 and 2, the drum has a single row of tips but it is obvious that in variants it could be provided with a different number of rows and / or tips. .
Inside the crown 3 is disposed a cam 12 in the form of a sector of a circle, mounted loose on the axis 2 by its hub 13, on which engages a fork 14 fixed to one end of a lever 15 articulated in 15a. The tilting of this lever in the direction F provokes the sliding of the cam on the r axis 2 in the direction F2; furthermore, the lever keeps the angular position of this cam constant during the rotation of the axis 2 and of the drum, for example in the direction F3.
The cam 12 has a profile in a sector of a circle with rounded edges, with a radius corresponding to that of the opening of the crown 3 with which it is practically in contact with its edge. Thus, during the rotary movement in the direction Fg previously indicated, the feet 9 of the various pistons 8 successively come into contact with the left edge of the cam 12 which forces these feet to enter the crown 3 against the springs 11 so that the tips 10 protrude from the profile of the drum.
The cam is however arranged so that these points do not protrude on the edge of the drum until the strip 16 is in contact with the edge of this drum; likewise, these points retract completely before the tape leaves the drum.
We can see in the drawing that the contact languor of the strip and the drum is that corresponding to an angle at the center a, whereas, given the shape of the cam, the tips only come into contact with this strip. during a displacement of angle a:; less than 0. 1 and different from this one by, a at each end.
In this way, the points penetrate into the band while their ends move at exactly the same speed as this band; the holes which they make are thus absolutely clear, without tearing, so that the driving of the strip takes place with very great precision. It is the same with regard to the retraction phase of these points.
It is possible to instantly stop the driven belt without stopping the motor driving axis 2 or, on the contrary, to start it without any slipping of the belt on the drum, one effect is sufficient for the '' stop operating the lever 15, as indicated previously in s, ens Fl. In this case, the points 10 retract into the drum under the action of the springs 11 associated with their respective cylinders as soon as the foot 9 of each cylinder will come into contact with the frustoconical portion 12a of the cam. e.
These points will, on the contrary, protrude as soon as the feet 9 will be pushed radially outwardly by contact with this surface 12a.
When the drum has several rows of points, it will include several cams arranged side by side, one for each row, distinct from each other or together constituting a block.
With this drum, it is possible to drive with very high precision bands of any width and even of very small width, for example 8 or 10 mm.
It is of course possible to mount on the same axis several of these drums each comprising a cam and an own actuating lever, in particular when it is desired to carry out a series of measurements independently of one another.
In the second embodiment (Figs. 3 and 4), the drum is thinned with a cylindrical part 20, made of insulating material, pierced axially by a circular housing 21 and wedged on a motor shaft 22 returning ee rotation. This part is also pierced with radial passages 23 connecting its outer edge to the side face of the housing 21 and in which are arranged as many needles 24 of magnetizable steel for example; the height of the needles is greater than the thickness of the wall delimiting the housing 21.
In this housing is disposed a cam 25 mounted loose on the axis 22 and maintained in an angular position determined by a lever 26, articulated at 26a and engaging the hub of the cam by a fork 27 with which it is provided. its lower part.
The profile of the cam 25 is cylindrical and of diameter smaller than that of the housing 21 over the major part of its turn by an amount corresponding to the part of the needles 24 to protrude as described by the speed; on the contrary, this cam has a diameter substantially equal to that of this housing at 25a over an angular length substantially equal to less than the angle i which corresponds to the length of contact between the strip 28 to be driven and the edge of the drum. These dif ferences in the diameter of the cam are however only verified over one half of its thickness, the other half, the one on the left in the drawing, being of constant diameter equal to the smaller of the two diameters previously indicated.
The connection between the parts of different diameters, in the axial sound as in the transverse direction, is made in a sufficiently gentle curve to allow easy lifting of the needles when they have to come into contact with a part of the cam of different diameter. .
As described, the cam constitutes a permanent magnet attracting the needles by their lower end so that they remain in constant contact with this cam on the edge of which they slide when the drum rotates; the cam thus not only controls the exit of the needles out of the profile of the edge of the drum but also their retraction.
As in the embodiment, previously described, it is also possible to stop the drive of a strip by this drum without stopping the motor to which the drum is connected and this by tilting the lever 28 in the direction F, on which the grouting in direction F of cam 25 depends.
In this case, the needles all move on the left part of the cam which is entirely cylindrical and of a diameter such that these needles do not protrude on the periphery of the drum.
This embodiment makes it possible to manufacture drums of very small diameters which operate in complete safety.
In the third embodiment, shown in FIGS. 5 and 6, the ost drum, as above, consisting of a plastic cylinder 30 cylindrically hollowed out at 31 and having radial housings 32 for needles 33. These needles however have a notch 34 at their internal radial end with which cooperates by its edge 35 a cam 36 engaged in the notches of all the needles, this cam being mounted loose on the shaft 37 for driving the cylinder 30 and locked in a position determined by any suitable means not shown.
The cam 36 has the form of a disc mounted eccentrically on its axis 37; during the rotation of the drum 30, the needles in their housing perform axial movements which are directly controlled by the profile of the edge 35 of the cam with which they are engaged.
Although in this embodiment only a disc-shaped cam has been shown, it is obvious that the latter could have any other form that can be readily available and adapted to the program chosen for the movement of the tips.
In a variant forming the subject of FIGS. 7 and 8, the drum 40 is hollowed out of an axial passage 41, crossed by a motor shaft 42, on which it is wedged, and a cylindrical housing 43, communicating with the passage 41.
Eight radial and equidistant openings 44, connect the edge of the drum and the housing 43; these openings are formed at their radially outer end by sleeves 45 in each of which is engaged a needle 46, the inner end of which has a sliding piston 47 in the respective opening 44. against a ries, out, of recall 48.
The pistons 47 are maintained in contact by their free end formed spherically with a cam 49 disposed in the housing 43.
This cam is constituted by a hollow prolile in the form of an oblong 0 engaged on the axis 42; the a width of the opening of this 0 is equal to the diameter of the axis 42 and its height is substantially equal to twice its width.
A lever 50 is fixed to the cam 49 making it possible to hold it in the high position shown in FIG. 7 ou'an contrary in the low position, diametrically symmetrical to the high position.
It is thus possible, by simple actuation of the lever 50, to make the ports 46 protrude either on the portion of the drum in contact with the strip, or on the rest of the circumference of the drum depending on whether the strip is to be driven or, on the contrary, remain stationary.
The strip of paper can be guided in: its path towards the drum as shown by means of a rotating roller provided with annular grooves for the points, with a depth corresponding to the height of these points or, in a variant not represented by a fixed member covering the drum over the driving length of the strip and having one or more grooves for the tips.
