<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>

"Device for arranging the material to be worked on for working machines, especially device for advancing by rollers"
The present invention relates to a device for feeding the material to be worked, especially a device for advancing by rollers, for working machines. Such known devices for producing the feed of the material to be worked are generally driven directly by the working machine and are set up in such a way that, when lifting the opening part of the feed device for the purpose of introduction of the new material to be worked, a stopper engages in the path of the advanced material, which stopper limits the depth of introduction of the material, for example a strip of any material to be worked.
When closing the device for feeding the material to be worked, which can be operated by hand, independently of the machine tool's working diagram and at any time desired, the said stop automatically disappears from the path of the strip of material to be worked on, and the advancing action of the feed device begins immediately. In a known embodiment, which is established in the form of a roller feed device, the stopper for the strip is, for example, driven laterally in the path of the strip of material to be worked, by means of 'a spring loaded toggle lever, while the toggle lever is simply linked by means of a chain to the bearing of the upper lifting roller.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
vable.
In this case, there is no provision for adjusting the depth of introduction of the strip of material to be worked.
The known devices for handling the material to be worked however have the fundamental flaw that the opening and closing of these devices are carried out by hand and at any desired height, quite independently of the diagram of the processing machine. job. As a result, the strips of material to be worked which are introduced often come into contact, at the least opportune moment, with the rising and falling tool holder of the machine tool or working machine, so that, as a result, it is produces, at the start of the machining of the material to be worked, a loss of material due to the formation of incomplete parts or splinters.
In the device for feeding the material to be worked according to the present invention, the reported disadvantages are eliminated by virtue of the fact that the active advancement movement is made dependent on the movement of the tool holder of the working machine, that is - that is, the feeder control operations are included in the work diagram of the work machine or machine tool. As a result, the influence of the operator in charge of the advancing device on the start of the active advancement movement of the band of material to be worked which has been introduced is first and foremost completely eliminated.
The invention essentially consists in that the closing of the feed device and, consequently, the withdrawal of the stop joined there, which can be precisely adjusted and determines the depth of introduction of the strip of material to be worked, is only initiated by the actuation of a hand lever, but is completed automatically by the working machine in motion, at a predetermined time, depending on its working diagram.
By way of demonstration, two exemplary embodiments of the invention are described below, with reference to the appended drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of an embodiment of the arrangement of the working material according to the invention;
Fig. 2 is a side view of the device according to FIG. 1;
Fig. 3 shows a sectional view through the pair of rollers and the stopper for the material strip, as well as a plan view of these bodies, in the case of the following exemplary embodiment in Fig.l;
Fig. 4 shows details of the coupling device between

the hand lever and the lifting lever of the machine, in the case of the embodiment according to Fig. 1;
Fig. 5 is a side view, partially in section, of another embodiment of the device for handling the material to be worked according to the invention;
Fig. 6 is another side view of the bleak device, the controls for the opening and closing movements of the lower advancement rollers being omitted, and
Fig. 7 is a plan view, from below, of the advancement rollers and of the members carrying and controlling the adjustable stop for the web of material, in the case of the embodiment according to FIG. 5.
In the embodiment illustrated in Figs. 1-4, two feed rollers 1 and 2 are mounted on the same frame 5, in four roller bearings, the two lower 3 of which are fixed, while the two upper 4 are movable. At each working stroke, a forward stroke, chosen at will, is imparted to these rollers by the working machine, for the amplitude of the forward movement required in each case, at a time determined in accordance with the diagram of work. The two upper roller bearings 4 carry a shaft 9, in trestles which pass through the cover 6 of the frame 5 of the rollers.
Next to the bearing brackets, cams painfully 7 are rigidly arranged on the shaft 9, which cams are supported in their rest position, by their part of smaller diameter on the cover 6 of the frame 5 of the rollers. On the shaft 9 is fixed, in addition, a hand lever 8 which allows, by an angular displacement in the direction opposite to that of clockwise, according to FIG. 2, to lift by a determined distance the upper roller bearings 4 and, consequently, the roller 1, by means of the lifting cams 7 and the aforesaid bearing brackets.
By means of a cam coupling 12, 16, the hand lever 8 is connected to a second lever 13 for the spacing of the rollers, which allows, in its working position, that is to say in the closed position of the rollers 1 and 2, to lift the upper roller 1 relative to the lower roller 2, by its angular displacement in the direction of clockwise, according to Fig. 2, under the influence of a control spindle 21 mounted with fine adjustment on the tool holder 22 of the working machine, and this also via the lifting cams 7 and the aforesaid bearing brackets.
The cam coupling 12, 16 is established in such a way that,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
when the hand lever 8 has been pivoted into its lifting position, the lifting lever 13 of the machine, which is mounted for free rotation on the shaft 9, becomes inactive, without however modifying its pre-determined lifting height , to which it was settled.
By said pivoting of the hand lift lever 8, and through the joined part 16 of the cam coupling therein, the coupling member 12 has been moved by the height of the cam, that is, in the case considered, equal to the thickness of the lifting lever 13 of the machine, at the same time driving the coupling member 11 and, consequently, by releasing the wedging connection between the parts 11 and 13 and by tensioning the coil spring 10, so that, as noted above, the lifting lever 13 of the machine has been disengaged from the shaft 9.
The working machine which continues to run, or the control spindle 21 joined directly to the mobile tool holder 22, can then no longer effect pivoting on the shaft 9 and therefore on the lifting cams 7, via the lever. lifting point 13 of the machine.
To the two upper roller bearings 4 are fixed two T-shaped locking pieces 24, the downwardly directed projections of which can engage in groove-shaped recesses of two control spools 23 slidably mounted in the frame. 5 of the rollers. These control sliders are each located between two roller bearings 3 and 4 and are subjected to the influence of two pressure springs 26 which, according to Figs, 1 and 2, tend to push them to the right. A stop screw 25 which engages in a slot of the control sliders 23, limits their lateral displacement. In addition, a shaft 32, the free end of which is provided with a hand lever 17, is rotatably mounted in the frame 5 of the rollers.
This hand lever can be locked in a predetermined position, using an adjusting pin 18 articulated therein (Figs. 1 and 2). On the shaft 32 are still fixed a control lever 19 directed upwards and two pressure levers 33, the first of which cooperates with a control spindle 20 also provided at the tool holder 22 of the working machine, while the the last two cooperate with the aforesaid control drawers 23.
Finally, supports 27, which hold a rail 28 extending parallel to the lower roller 2, are fixed to the upper roller bearings 4. In the middle of this rail 28 is arranged a bolt 31, which extends perpendicular to this rail and to the left, according to Fig. 3, and on which a fine adjustment stop 29, for the strips of material to be worked, is slidably mounted
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
longitudinal and pivoting around this bolt. A guide plate 30, fixed to the frame 5 and bent at right angles, ensures the correct guidance of the strips of material to be worked introduced into the feed device by the rollers, against the stop 29 for the strips.
The roller feed device according to the invention operates as follows:
The two feed rollers 1 and 2 are, at each working stroke, driven by the working machine in motion, on a forward stroke which can be chosen according to the required advance distance in each case, within a period time determined in accordance with the machine working diagram.
When a strip of material to be worked is to be brought to the feed device, with a view to its machining under the tool holder 22 of the working machine, the hand lever 8 must first be rotated to the left, according to Fig. 2. As a result, on the one hand, the lifting of the two upper roller bearings 4 and, consequently, the upper roller 1, is produced by means of the lifting cams 7 and the bearing brackets for the shaft. 9. On the other hand, the cam coupling 16, 12 is, as has already been described, in detail, released so that the lifting lever 13 of the machine is disengaged from the shaft 9. .
This eliminates any influence of the control spindle 21, which is joined to the tool holder of the machine and is driven by a continuous back and forth movement in the height direction, on the lifting cams 7.
Simultaneously with the lifting of the upper roller bearings 4, the stop 29 for the strips is, by means of the members 27, 28 and 51, raised in the path of the strip of material to be worked introduced by hand, so that the depth of insertion of the strip is determined by this stop.
On the other hand, the T-shaped locking pieces 24 are lifted simultaneously with the upper roller bearings 4 and are disengaged from the grooves of the commando drawers 23. If the adjustment pin 18 has now been released and the hand lever 17 rotated somewhat to the left, according to Fig. 2, the pressure springs 26 can move the control sliders 23 to the right, until they abut against the screws 25. As a result, the grooves of the control sliders 23 pass under and over the protrusions-, directed downwards from the T-shaped locking pieces 24. After placing a strip of material to be worked on between rollers 1 and 2, the hand lever 8 is returned to its starting position ( Fig. 2).
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
As a result, the lifting lever 13 of the machine is again positively united with the shaft 9. When the upper roller bearings 4 are lowered, the downward projections of the locking pieces 24 do not engage. however no longer in the grooves of the control drawers 23, as noted above, but now rest on the upper faces thereof. Therefore, the two rollers 1 and 2 remain separated from each other by a distance equal to the height of the projections. The upper roller 1 has therefore only been partially lowered.
Given that the stop 29 for the strips of material to be worked is joined rigidly to the upper roller bearing 4, by means of the members 27, 28 and 31, this stop can either, or only partially, leave the path of the strip of material to be worked on. This condition is, however, desirable and important, since it could happen that, during the rotation of the rollers, the strip of material to be worked on the lower roll 2 would be driven deeper, only as a result of the adhesion of the material to the roll. 2 and without the pair of rollers being completely closed, that is to say that more material would pass through the advance device than what is determined by the stop 29 for the material web.
After all the components have come to occupy the position described in the foregoing, the control spindle 20 joined to the tool holder 22, meets at the predetermined moment, during a downward stroke of the tool holder, the control lever 19 and returns the control sliders 23 to their starting position, by means of the two pressure levers 33 (Figs. 1 and 2). As a result, the protrusions of the locking pieces 24 can however re-engage in the grooves of the control slides 23, and the two rollers 1 and 2 can reach their fully closed position, as a result of which the stop 29 has definitively released the advance of the working material web which has been introduced.
The intermittent advance of the strip of material to be worked, which is controlled by the working machine itself, can now be effected, by means of the members 21, 13, 7 and 4. The return of the control spools 23 in their inactive position can also be produced directly from the crankshaft of the working machine, instead of under the control of the tool holder 22, without thereby departing from the idea fundamental of the invention.
Figs. 5-7 show another embodiment of the invention. Also in this embodiment, two feed rollers 4 and 5, -which a feed stroke, which can be chosen
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
at will, is printed by the working machine for a fixed period of time from the machine's working diagram, -are mounted in a frame 1, in four roller bearings, the two upper 2 of which are fixed and of which the two lower 3 can move up and down. The lower roller bearings 3 are subjected to the load of springs 6 which tend to press the lower feed roller 5 firmly against the upper roller 4.
To the lower roller bearings 5 are fixed trestles 7, to which tilting levers 8 apply in free rotation, by means of a shaft 9 passing through the trestles. These tilting levers 8 are supported by adjustment screws 10 on the underside 11 of the frame. Connecting rods 12, which are articulated to oscillating levers 13 of a shaft 14 mounted in the frame 1, attack the free ends of the levers 8. In addition to the oscillating levers 13, a lifting lever 15 of the machine is fixed to the 'shaft 14, which lever 15 cooperates, in a manner not shown in the drawing, with the tool holder, which moves up and down, of the machine tool.
As shown in Fig. 5 and 7, a hand lifting lever 15a is fixed on the extended shaft 9, which lever can also act, by means of lifting cams 15b and 15c also wedged on the shaft 9, on the lower roller bearings 3, through the easels 7.
In the frame 1 is further mounted a shaft 16 to which an oscillatory movement is imparted directly by the crank or eccentric shaft of the machine tool, through the oscillating lever 16a and a coupling rod. not shown. An arm 17, having an elastic beak 18, is wedged on each side on the shaft 16. Each of these trays 18 cooperates with the projection 19 of one of the two oscillating levers 20 which are arranged to rotate freely on the axis. 21 of the upper roller 4, on both sides of this axis. On the upper end, carrying the projection 19, of each oscillating lever 20, acts a rod 22, which is mounted in the frame 1 and which tends to move to the right under the action of a spring 23, according to Fig. . 5, and thus brings the projections 19 of the oscillating levers 20 into contact with the jaws 18 of the arms 17.
The lower end of each oscillating lever 20 is rounded along a radius starting from the center of the roller axis 21 and has a step 24 which cooperates with a corresponding projection 25 of one of the two wedging pieces 26 fixed on both sides. movable bearings 3 of the lower roller 5. Each rod 22 carries, at its free end, a soft button 27, which buttons make it possible to immobilize the oscillating levers 20 in their starting position (FIG. 5), during operation of the device in advance with fittings

uninterrupted material to work.
To the frame 1 is fixed a guide plate 28 which serves as a support for the material to be advanced (sheet metal strips, mica, hard paper, etc.) and has a longitudinal slot 29, through which an adjustable stop 30 can pass. for the strips of material to be worked. This stop 30 is connected, by means of two connecting rods 31, 31a (fig. 6 and 7) mounted in the frame 1, to the lower roller bearings which can be moved upward and downward, ae such that the said stop follows, in the opposite direction, the movements of the bearings 6.
A spindle 32, which can be rotated by means of a soft knob 35, by means of a pair of straight wheels 33, 34, allows fine adjustment of the stop 50, in the direction of its length. wretchedness. The stop 30, the spindle 32 and its control (members 33 to 36) are shown in a cross member 37 which can be moved up and down in the frame 1, which cross member is controlled by the above-mentioned connecting rods 31, 31a under the dependence of the lower roller bearings 3.
By releasing a soft nut 38 and bringing out the cross member 37 which carries the stop 30 proper for the strips of material to be worked, as indicated above, the connecting rods 31, 31a can be put 1-. When in use, so that the cross member 37 and the stop 50 are held in the lower inactive position by their load springs 39, when actuated the hand lifting lever 15a.
The operation of this embodiment of the invention is as follows:
After the stop 50 for the strips of material to be worked has been set, using the soft knob 35, the shaft 36, the pair of straight wheels 53, 34 and the threaded spindle 32, to the extent necessary for the With the total advance required, the hand lifting lever 15a is pivoted, with its lifting cams 15b and 15c, into the open position, so that a strip of material to be worked can be introduced between rollers 4 and 5. As a result, the two bearings 3 of the lower roller, and with them the two wedging pieces 26, are pulled down, with an increase in the tension of the springs 6.
The steps 25 of the wedging pieces 26 have released the oscillating levers 20 mounted in rotation on the axis 21 of the upper roller 4, so that, under the effect of the thrust of the rods 22 loaded by springs, these levers can. tilt clockwise.
The jaws 18 and the arms 17 cannot prevent this rocking movement, since, in the rest position, the crank or eccentric shaft of the machine tool maintains, by means of the coupling rod not shown and the swing lever 16a,
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
the shaft 16 in its extreme right-hand pivot position, according to FIG. 5, and therefore also maintains the arms 17 and the nozzles 18 in their inactive position. Simultaneously with the downward movement of the lower roller bearings 3, the cross member 37 was lifted by means of the rocking levers 31, 31a, and, therefore, the stop 50, which is mounted in this cross member, came to occupy its position. active by passing through the slot 29 of the guide plate 28.
A strip of material to be worked can now be introduced between the feed rollers 4 and 5, which are open, up to the stop 30. If the hand lifting lever 15a is now returned to its starting position, the springs 6 cannot bring the lower roller 5 completely in. contact with the upper roller 4, since the protrusions 24 of the swinging levers 20, which have tilted, rest on the raised control surfaces of the wedging pieces 26 attached to the lower roller bearings 3 and thus prevent further upward movement of the lower roller 5. The fully closed position of the pair of rollers 4, 5 can only be reached under the control of the main shaft of the machine, through the swinging shaft 16, the arms 17 and nozzles 18.
When the machine tool has been started, the pivoting of the shafts 17 in the clockwise direction occurs during a well-determined angular position of the crank or eccentric shaft and, consequently, during 'a well-determined position of the tool holder. The slats 18 then meet the projections 19 of the oscillating levers 20 and return the latter to their starting position, against the antagonistic action of their load springs 23. The grains 24 of the levers 20 slip out of the raised part. wedges 26 and will again be placed behind the protrusions .. 25 thereof. Under the action of the springs 6, the lower feed roller 5 can now come to rest against the upper feed roller 4 and effectively drive a strip of material to be worked located between these rollers.
During the final upward movement of the lower roller bearings 3, the cross member 37, with the stop 30, has however been brought back, under the action of the tilting levers 31, 31a and the load springs 39, in its lower position, according to Fig. 5, in which the stop 30 can no longer pass through the slot 29 of the guide plate 28 and can therefore no longer act on the moving web of material to be worked.
It goes without saying that the hand lifting lever 15a can also be actuated in the event of continuous operation of the machine tool, so that the feed device is brought into its position.
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
opening and that a new strip of material to be worked can be put in place. The oscillating movement of the shaft 14, which has been caused by the lifting lever 15 of the machine, for example under the control of the tool holder of the machine tool, produces a gap of the rollers with each working stroke, for example. through the levers 13, the connecting rods 12 and the tilting levers 8.
The fine adjustment can be carried out both with the tool holder and by means of the adjustment screws 10. The lifting lever 15 of the machine can also become inactive, for example by the retraction of an adjustable push bar in the holder. -tool or by loosening the adjustment screws 10.
The lowering of the stop 30 is carried out to a point such that, even in the case of mechanical lifting and when the stop is engaged, the latter cannot pass through the guide plate 28. This stroke is however smaller than the overlap of the steps of the levers 20 and of the blocking pieces 26. The immobilization of the stop 30 for the strips of material to be worked, in order to prevent the jumping of the rollers 4 and 5 at each working stroke, when 'one works with uninterrupted arrangement of the material to be worked, takes place by withdrawing the knobs 27 and therefore the rods 22, allowing the locking of the oscillating levers 20 in their rest position (FIG. 5).
The embodiments of a device for arranging the material to be worked, which have been described above, allow direct drive by the shaft. crank or eccentric of the machine tool, and therefore does not require subsequent adjustment, They allow, moreover, a closing of the rollers which cannot be influenced by the personnel serving the machine, which does not occur until the moment of 'stop of the advance and which, thanks to the possibility of fine adjustment of the levers 17, is ensured with precision with respect to time, so that they therefore allow a complete advance of the material to be worked for each speed.
In the case of the automatic feeding of the material web to be worked, which is also controlled by the machine in accordance with the working diagram, the lifting of the rollers can be operated by the controlled feed control lever. tape, instead of using a hand lever. The control lever can act at any time, which is adjustable and depends on the length of the strip.
