<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>
<Desc/Clms Page number 12>
<Desc/Clms Page number 13>
Pour terminer sera décrit le fonctionnement du dispo- sitif de la figure 14 qui a pour but d'arrêter le mouvement de l'appareil quand, une fois qu'a été détecté un fil rompu, la balancier 78 s'est retiré du passage du disque tournant 35 jus- qu'à la base du fuseau 37. Si le dispositif en question n'exitait ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 14>

"APPARATUS FOR AUTOMATICALLY JOINING THREADS WHICH BROKEN DURING THE OPERATION OF CONTINUOUS SPINNING MACHINES".
The main patent relates in particular to an automatic device for connecting broken strands in a continuous spinning machine or the like comprising a carriage adapted to move on the front and along the spinning spindles of one or more machines and comprising a deteotor which, in the absence of one of the wires moving towards the fixed coils, stops the carriage, starts the wire connection mechanisms, the moving means along the guide rings of the player, and moves them to the appropriate position to be threaded with the wire, an extractor for extracting the broken end of the wire from the spool and means
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
to thread this end into the player,
means for raising the extraotor together with the end of the broken wire and means for threading said end into the wire guide as well as a system for gripping the wire picked up by the extractor and for cutting the excess wire , and motorized so as to place such a yarn in contact with the spun wick coming from the production rollers, all these elements being connected to an appropriate drive mechanism to carry out the different phases.
Such a new device has made it possible to completely eliminate labor in the event of a breakage of threads in the machines during continuous spinning. This rupture, in the case of these machines, always occurs in the part comprised between the two drawing rolls and the upper layer of the threads wound on the corresponding spool. The reunion of the broken threads before the invention was always done by hand, but the device of the invention made it possible to completely eliminate this labor.
The device according to the main patent has worked with complete satisfaction. But it has proved possible to simplify this without in any way changing the place and order of the various operations which are necessary to achieve the desired goal.
In the main patent, the cart moved by an electric motor moves with its wheels on rails mounted in the spinning machine. The carriage supports all the means necessary for carrying out the splicing and which are triggered when the detector has discovered a broken wire. Above this carriage, and at an invariable determined distance from the same fixed plate, is the horizontal plate movable vertically upwards and downwards, described in the main patent, and shown particularly in FIG. 28 of said patent.
This plate necessarily undergoes ascending displacements,
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
descendants of the lever.
This operation in principle cannot vary, but the mechanical means described in the main patent are improved by the present invention characterized by the fact that the ascent and the descent of the movable plate are simply controlled by an electric sensor which, during the oscillating movement of the lever , transmits all the orders necessary for the movement of the plate to an adjustable speed servomotor.
This improvement to the main patent provides an improvement by making the apparatus easy to adapt to various types of machines, qualities of textile products and to various manufacturing speeds.
The servo motor controlled by the detector or probe can move various mechanical parts to raise or lower the horizontal plate, such as cables, chains, racks, connecting rods and cranks. The example described below relates to a combination of a worm screw with a nut. The servomotor acts on a vertical screw which passes through the plate in an internally threaded block and because the plate cannot turn, with each rotation of the screw in one direction or the other, it rises or s 'lowers with the mechanisms mounted on it.
According to another characteristic of the present invention, the ascent of the plate which carries the suction orifice described in the main patent is avoided, from the horizontal plane to the upper layer of the coil, where it sucks the suction. end of wire broken. The ascent is limited to the height of the stretching cylinders. This avoids the excessive friction of the sucked yarn on the inside of the mouthpiece as it slides in opposition to the traction produced by the suction air current.
To avoid this inconvenience which sometimes produces
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
a new break in the wire, there is provided, in the example described below, on the suction tube connected to the suction device, an extension of the mouth from a short horizontal part, rising vertically to 'above in any case the level of the drawing rolls, and then a short part in the opposite direction from the short lower part mentioned.
All these sections of the suction tube have a narrow groove over their entire length which allows the side exit of the wire drawn into the upper curve of the suction tube from which the tube runs downwards to terminate in the vacuum cleaner.
In this way, we obtain that the wire is stretched between the upper layer of the coil and a point located higher than the drawing cylinders with a minimum of park bear of the movable plate, whose movements are controlled by the probe as mentioned above.
In the case of a thinner and less resistant yarn type, the lifting of the yarn to a height greater than that of the drawing cylinders, could be achieved by means of a movable clamp which lifts the yarn. vertically from the suction mouth located in the plane of the upper heads of the spool up to the mentioned height avoiding that the thinner or less resistant threads can deteriorate.
The invention further provides that the member which threads the thread into the thread guide is independent.
The apparatus for stitching together the broken thread is provided, according to another characteristic of the invention, with a device which stops the operation of the apparatus once a broken thread has been detected, when it is swinging and obstructs, in its reciprocating movement of ascent and descent, the free passage towards the movable rotating disc, and which has the role of
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
stop the spindle and turn it in the opposite direction, and restart the machine when the lever has already left this zone until it is next lowered.
The invention also extends to the characteristics resulting from the following description and the appended drawings as well as to their possible combinations.
The description relates to exemplary embodiments of the present invention shown in the drawings with the same reference numerals as in the drawings of the main patent.
- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device with indication of the modifications ooncerning the vertical suction tube with groove and the movement mechanism d3 the mobile platform by worm and servo motor; - Figure 2 is a side view of the mouth and the suction tube with the relative position of the wire splicing lever; FIG. 3 is a side view of the system for lifting the wire from the suction mouth to the top by means of a clamp; - Figure 4 is a front view of the mechanism of Figure 3; FIGS. 5 to 10 represent various phases of the cycle of the apparatus using the vertical tubular suction system of the invention;

- figure 14 shows the detector with its electric switch by means of which the apparatus stops its operation when the front finger of the lever makes it impossible to pass the rotating disc responsible for stopping the spindle and turning it in the opposite direction, and restart it when the lever has left this passage area.
The description which follows with reference to the figures relates firstly to what is new and only mentions the parts whose operation is described in the main patent.
The suction tube 84 (Figures 1, 2 and 5-10) can oscillate in the support 83a mounted in the movable part 45 (Figure 2). This tube 84 in this example is bent twice, preferably at right angles from the downwardly directed suction mouth 85. Following the mouth, it has a curved horizontal part 84b which extends away from the bottom of the spinning machine, and after a first bend it is directed upwards in a second ascending section 84c long enough which extends to the upper level of the two draw rollers 114, 115, where it forms a second bend to point again towards the machine forming the second short horizontal section 84d, which is located vertically above the mouth 85.
All of these three tube sections 84b, 84c and 84d, designated as a whole by 84, have on their side directed towards the machine and over their entire length, a narrow groove 84a wide enough to allow the thread to pass. After forming a third bend at right angles in a horizontal plane, the tube is connected to the support by a joint 83a from which the tube no longer has the mentioned groove and it goes down to the vacuum cleaner. This last stretch

descender is telescoped with the fixed vertical tube 86 which leads to the vacuum cleaner. Instead of this telescopic junction, one could adopt a flexible tube which allows. line to follow the ascents and descents of the plate 45 and of the support 83a.
The movement of the tube with the mouth 85 around the articulation of the support 83a is ensured by the means described in the main patent, that is to say a lever and a connecting rod.
As mentioned above, the tube 84 with its two bends described and shown forms an open "curve" towards the spinning machine and is provided with a narrow groove 84a, so that the sucked yarn can exit laterally. But it is expressly emphasized that the open "curve" shown as an example is not imperative and that the tube can have any other shape as long as it is open on the same side and is provided with the groove for the tube. wire exit. The shape of this curve can be, for example a semicircle, a semi-ellipse or a polygon formed by the suction tube in which at least one side has been removed and of a shape such that the two free ends, which are are preferably vertically separated, so two points between which a free vertical wire is placed and spaced from the tube.
The invention extends to all these different shapes of tube.
In cases where it would be inadvisable, in order not to damage the wire, which is stretched, and to eliminate any friction inside the tube, a variant can be adopted such that, once the wire has been sucked by the mouth 85, i.e. once it has detached from the upper head of the spool, instead of going all the way inside the /

tube, it is grasped in front of the same mouth by a clamp 160 (Figures 3 and 4) joined to an endless belt or chain 161, which passes around a pulley 162 which is rotated by the general mechanism of the apparatus.
With regard to the movement of the movable plate 45 by means of the servomotor 152 controlled by the microswitch probe 150, it should be pointed out, as an example, that opposite the coil rail 78 (FIG. 11) is placed the probe 150, which transmits its indications by the cable and the auxiliary relays to the clutch 151 and to the servomotor 152 which turns the worm 15 @. The motor is located at the top of the fixed plate 30 and the clutch is used to couple or disconnect the worm 153, which, properly supported on its. ends, goes through the nut 154, attached to the center of the. plate 45, so that the plate, depending on the direction of rotation of the screw, can move up and down in accordance with the upward and downward movements of the rail 78.
The nut may be of the usual type or be in the shape of a nut or a beroeau so that the frictional resistance is minimal.
The feeler (figure 11) 150 is mounted in such a way that it is not fixed to the plate 45, but that it can perform a limited vertical displacement with respect to it, which takes place thanks to a guide vertical 135, fixed to the plate, in which the probe can move in a guide opening 156, so that, during the descent of the mouth 85, it is placed inside the ring (figure 6) by the suction of the wire, the plate 45 being able to descend to a level lower than that determined by the feeler, this to allow the threading of the wire in the cursor.
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
Figure 13 shows the movement of the rocker lever 108 for passing the yarn through the yarn guide 110.
The lower plate 45 is movable reciprocally up and down as explained above and the upper plate 30 is attached. On the movable plate 45 is mounted fixed and vertically the rack 168, which naturally follows the movements of the plate 45 and near this rack and meshing with it, is the toothed wheel 167 mounted on the horizontal axis 167a to the other end of which is mounted the eccentric lever 166, which, depending on the rise or fall of the rack 168, rotates in one direction or the other.
The lever 166 has a profile such that it responds to the increases in height experienced by the thread guide when it is changed, along with the small oscillations corresponding to the back and forth of the lever 108. Of course. , the lever 166 can be replaced by a pinion and the wheel 165 by a fixed rack as well as the frame 112.
On the upper edge of the lever 166 rests a caster 165 on the projecting axis of the frame 112 of the rotation mechanism of the arm 108. During a slight rotation of the back and forth of the lever 126, this lever is lowered. each time by means of the wheel 165, the mechanism to place it in exact position with respect to the position of the balance 108.
The mechanism 112, 108 receives its impulse from the main vertical shaft 24 of the apparatus (analogous to the shaft 24 of figure 28 of the main patent) which moves the horizontal lever 169 mounted on this motor shaft 24, and from there the sink
169, by means of the balancer 174 and a connecting rod 175 which transmit the movement to the vertical shaft 176 which freely passes through the fixed plate 30.
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
On the lower end of this shaft 176, a bevel gear 177 is provided which meshes with another oonic pinion 178. On the same axis as this pinion 178 is provided a lever which, according to the previous movement of the main shaft 24, immediately causes a rapid movement of the arm 108 which then feeds the thread stretched into the thread guide 110.
Finally we see in figure 14 the detector lever 179 which rests on the lower part of the lever 78, which can rotate around the articulation 180 located in the upper part of the lower plate 5 of the. This lever, rising following the movement of the lever under the action of the spring 181, can be placed in contact with two contacts 182 and 183, the first of which only 182 performs a short-term pulse during the ascent of the device. lever but remains inactive if the action of the lever 179 results in a descent of said lever. The contact 183 corresponds to a position of the lever in which it cannot obstruct the passage of the wheel 35 and, consequently, the upward action lever 179.
It determines a restrictive or stopping action of the machine in the lower positions of the balance while the descent of the sense lever 179 at the end of the descent mutation of the balance determines the limits indicated for the start.
The operation of the elements of the invention is as follows
Assume that the broken fila detector has stopped the carriage and that the main shaft 24 of the apparatus has started to rotate powered by the motor (see Figure 26 of the main patent).
Mouthpiece 85 is at the top of the spool

lower which follows the entire path of the tube until reaching the elbow of the support 83a from which the tube no longer has a lateral groove. In the continuation of the tube without lateral groove, the suction force which it exerts on the wire increases appreciably and, consequently, this wire leaves laterally through the groove and stretches in the form of a vertical strand of wire. free outside the tube, so that, on this free strand of wire, the other mechanisms of the wire guide can act to finally lift it up to the drawing rolls with a view to joining it again to the outgoing bit .
The different phases are explained more specifically with the aid of successive Figures 5 to 10.
In Fig. 5, the normal process of spinning the wick exiting between the draw rollers 114, 115 is seen and, due to the high twisting speed, the wick is converted into a thread 109 which passes through. by the thread guide 110, to arrive wound on the spool 37. In this path, the thread can break and figure 6 shows the same elements but without the output wire of the drawing cylinders and the mouth placed near the upper head of the wire wound on the spool at the time of suction *
In Fig. 7, a strand of wire stretched freely in the air has formed and the mouthpiece with its tube is removed from the spool.
The thread is threaded again into the slider with the means described in the main patent and the arm 26 begins its rotational movement to the left (in the drawing) and lifts the thread to a position in which, with the help of the arm 108, it can be threaded into the thread guide 110, which takes place exactly as shown in Figures 8 and 9. In Figure 10, the threaded thread is lifted up to /
<Desc / Clms Page number 12>
drawing cylinders thus completing the repair of the break in the wire by means of a union with the wick which comes out in order to be able to continue winding on the spindle.
When, for the reasons described, the lifting of the thread is effected by means of a clamp (figures 3 and 4), the latter passes in front of the mouth when the absorption of the thread has taken place and the mouth s When sufficiently removed from the spool, movement of the cable or chain 161, which supports the work, is produced by one of the pinions and gears which are driven from the main shaft 24 of the apparatus. This clamp lifts the thread vertically and moves it in the upper part around the wheel 62 until the thread is in the threading position in the clamp and the eyelet of the lever 26 which makes the junction. The other operations are identical to those described with reference to Figures 5 and 6, as well as those for raising the wire in air.
As regards the operation of the movable plate 45 by means of the feeler 150 of the clutch 151 and of the motor 152 (figure 11), it is carried out according to the corresponding indications, for the feeler which leans on the balance. 78 near the ring from which must be carried out the operation of threading the wire in the cursor 55 (figures 6 to 10 'of the main patent), of the feeler 150, in its movement of lifting the balance 78 , in contact therewith, engages the spindle 153 with the motor 152 which is in motion.
When, by virtue of the high lifting speed of the plate 45 moved in this way with the balance 78, the feeler 150 again decouples the motor 152 in the spindle 153, the plate 45 remaining, again held, until that the balance in a new upward movement comes to reach the feeler and the cycle is repeated as before.
<Desc / Clms Page number 13>
When the balancer descends following the same path but in the opposite direction, the only difference is that the descent of the balanoier switches the connections of the motor 152 and the feeler 150 so that the motor turns in the opposite direction, thus obtaining that, when it is engaged with the spindle 153, the plate 45 goes down and when the micro-switch of the feeler comes into contact with the balance, it disengages the motor with the spindle 153, until the new separation of the balance from the micro- switch, turns it on and so on.
As to the description of the movement of the plate 45 which, according to the main patent is made mechanically, is a simplified and more modern form. As can be understood, the state of the electrical art makes it possible to follow the movement of the balance without the successive stops of the plate 45, thanks to the use of an adjustable speed motor, of the servo-self-regulating type. The latter receives instantaneous information from the feeler on the distinct positions occupied by the balancer and it increases or decreases its speed so that the position of the movable plate 45 and the position of the balance match at all times in a correspondence. perfect of situations.
In the same way, we owe to this servomotor the precise indication so that, when a rapid descent is necessary to locate the mouth, or an ascent to effect the suction of the wire, this is achieved by a simple pulse of 'a lever (not shown) actuated by the main motor shaft 24.
Finally, the operation of the device of FIG. 14 will be described, the object of which is to stop the movement of the apparatus when, once a broken wire has been detected, the balance 78 has withdrawn from the passage of the device. rotating disc 35 to the base of the spindle 37. If the device in question did not exist;
<Desc / Clms Page number 14>
not, there would be an impact of the disc 35 against the balance 78 with all the undesirable consequences. In order to avoid this shock, the detector pendulum 179 in the considered risk zone rests on the lower edge 178a of the vertical arm of the pendulum by means of the action of the spring 181.
When, in its upward movement, the balance has given way. wise of the rotating disc 35 so that it can mate, to the lower part of the spindle 37 in order to stop the spindle and make it turn backwards, the detector lever 179 touches a contact 182 with which the device knotting starts and the known cycle which begins with the braking of the spindle and its driving in reverse and before the balance will descend again, the disc 35 has withdrawn, so that the balance can descend again without hitting the disc.
When the reciprocating zone of the balance rises until it reaches a height for which the lowest position of its oscillating descent course is a little higher or sufficient to allow passage of the rotating disc 35, the lever 179 then reaches contact 183 which, in turn, corresponds to the upper position of the balance in this zone and produces a contact which determines the cancellation of the limitation device described, until the balance descends completely to pull the connection. For a better understanding of the drawing of Figure 14, it should be taken into account that the location of contacts 182 and 183 is only schematic.
It is obvious that the invention is not limited to the embodiments described and represented above and from which other forms and other embodiments can be provided without thereby departing from the scope of invention.
