Additional patent subordinate to main patent No 321133 Motor-driven office machine The present invention relates to a motor-driven office machine according to the claim of the main patent, that is to say comprising a member intended to be operated by drive means actuated by the motor, and cam means normally inactive and arranged to become active by means of a control key in order to make the drive means periodically effective to transmit the drive to said member and to produce its repeated operation,
said cam means comprising a continuously rotating cam, a cam follower arranged normally outside the path of the cam so as not to be engaged with it, and displacement means connected to said control key to produce a relative displacement between said cam and said follower during the continuous rotation of the cam, so that the follower is moved into an active position in the path of the cam to be actuated: periodically by it and to return, to in turn, said drive means effective for transmitting the drive to said member. The machine forming the subject of the present invention is characterized in that said member intended to be actuated is a member of a row spacing mechanism.
The drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the machine according to the invention. The fi-. 1 is a schematic perspective view of this embodiment. Fig. 2 is a view similar to that of FIG. 1, the key mechanism being omitted and other parts being shown in another position.
Fig. 3 is a partial and detailed perspective view, on a larger scale, showing a control member of the line spacing mechanism and a guide, for this member. The drawing shows a typewriter powered by a motor, comprising a fixed frame A on which is mounted, for letter spacing and the return path, a carriage comprising a support bar or track B.
The carriage can be mounted on the frame and be actuated for advance and return by means of a known mechanism.
The carriage is intended to be fitted with a paper sheet supply roll (not shown) which may be of conventional shape and which is intended to accommodate the designated line spacing mechanism in a manner. general by C. The spacing mechanism C is controlled by a cam mechanism D, mounted on the frame and actuated by a motor, by means of a connection device E which can be actuated to transmit forces to the spacing mechanism C regardless of the position of the carriage on the frame.
The carriage comprises an end plate 1, provided with a bearing sleeve 2 in which is journalled a shaft (not shown) carrying a manually operated button 3 at its outer end.
The inner end of the shaft is provided with a radially offset finger 4, which engages in an opening 5 formed in a spider 6 which can rotate around the common axis of the shaft, and a rod of 7 line fractional spacing adjustment which passes through the tree. The arrangement is such that, when the button 3 is turned, the finger 4 turns the spider 6. The spider 6 is provided with pins, two of which are shown at 8, 8 and which extend into the spider. 'end of roller (not shown), to rotate the roller at the same time as the spider and thus ensure the spacing movements of said .roller.
Around the rod 7 and the shaft associated with it, can also turn a rock wheel 9 which is integral with a coupling ring partially shown at 10. Normally, the outer ridged ends of the fingers 11 of the The spider 6 engages the inner face of the cheek of the coupling ring 10,1, so that the coupling ring 10 and the ratchet wheel 9 attached to it will rotate in unison with the spider 6 and the roller.
An arm, trigger 12, pivoting on the carriage at 13 is provided with a roller 14 which is normally held against the ratchet wheel 9 by a res out 15 which tends to tilt the trigger 12 in a clockwise direction. a watch (fig. 1 and 2).
A push button 16 cooperates with the outer end of the rod 7 and allows the rod 7 to be pressed inwards in order to move the spider 6 to the right and release the ends of the fingers 11 of the spider of the cheek 101, of the coupling ring 10 so as to allow the roller to rotate in fractional line spacings, while the coupling ring 10 and the ratchet wheel 9 are held stationary by the trigger 12.
A spacing selector screen 17 cooperates with a spacing pawl (not shown) to vary the line deviations imparted to the roller in response to the action of a carriage return lever (not shown). The position of the screen 17 can be adjusted by moving a push-button 17a on the screen. A ratchet release arm 18 pivots on the end of the carriage at 19 and its lower end cooperates with a buffer 20 on the detent lever 12 to release the detent roller 14 from its engagement with the ratchet wheel 9 and allow the roller to rotate without being retained by the ratchet mechanism.
The spacing mechanism described so far is of a known type. The ratchet wheel 9 constitutes a spacer member the movement of which rotates a sheet supply roller to perform the necessary spacer functions.
The machine shown comprises a control pawl 21, mounted so as to slide forward or backward in a slot 22 formed in a guide bracket 23 fixed on and depending on a cross member 24 (fig. 3) forming part of the frame of the trolley. The slot 22 is vertically elongated so as to allow the pawl 21 to move vertically, at the same time as substantially horizontally, with respect to the guide console 23.
The pawl 21 has a pointed front end 25 which is normally out of engagement with the ratchet wheel 9 and which is held in the raised position by a spring 26 connected at its lower end to the pawl 21 and connected at its upper end to a part. stationary of the carriage. The rear end of the pawl 21 pivots at 28 on an arm 29 of a leaf 30 mounted to swing on a rod 31 fixed to the frame of the carriage.
A spring 27, connected to the leaf 30 and to a fixed part of the frame of the carriage, pulls the leaf 30 counterclockwise (fig. 1 and 2) so as to normally keep the pawl 21 in the lock. withdrawn position shown in fi-. 1 in which its point 25 is released from the ratchet wheel 9.
The tiltable leaf 30 constitutes a part of the connecting device E which is operated for the transmission of a space force from the cam mechanism D to the spacing mechanism C, whatever the position of the carriage relative to the frame. . The leaf 30 has a rear lip 32 with a concave upper surface.
To tilt the leaf 30 in order to effect the forward movement of the pawl 21 and a corresponding rotation of the ratchet wheel 9, an adjustable connection is constituted by a link 33 mounted so as to slide in a forked guide element 34 attached to the main frame A.
This link has at its upper end a hook 35 which extends in the concavity of the lip 32 of the leaf 30, the arrangement being such that, when the link 33 is lowered, its hook 35 bears against the lip. 32 and tilt the leaf 30 in the direction of clockwise (fig. 1 and 2). The lower end of the link 33 pivots at 36 on a cam follower 37 which is normally held upwards, in the position shown in FIG. 1, by a spring 38.
When the cam follower 37 is moved downwards in a manner which will be described later, the link 33 is lowered, which causes its hook 35 to bear against the lip 32 of the bat so 30 so as to tilt the latter clockwise against the action of spring 27.
The clapper 30 then acts by its arm 29 to push the pawl 21 forward, bringing its point 25 into engagement with a tooth of the ratchet wheel 9 and rotating the latter in the direction of clockwise, so as to produce line spacing of the roll. When the cam follower 37 is raised or returned to the position shown in FIG. 1, the link 33 is lifted, allowing the spring 27 to tilt the leaf 30 counterclockwise and, thus, to remove the pawl 21.
The machine shown comprises cam means arranged to normally maintain a cam 39 and the cam follower 37 in relative positions such that the follower cannot be actuated by the cam during the continuous operation of the latter and for this purpose. selectively effect a relative displacement movement between the cam and the roller to allow the roller to engage the cam and be actuated by the latter to control the link mechanism E.
The cam 39 is integral with a pulley 40 mounted so as to rotate on a shaft 41 carried by a fixed console 42, integral with the frame A. The pulley 40 and the cam 39 are driven by an electric motor 43 by the intermediary of links. drive comprising an engine pulley 44, a belt 45 passed over the pulley 44 and a pulley 46 integral with a shaft 47 rotating in a fixed frame bearing 48, a pulley 49 integral with the shaft 47, and a belt 50 passed over the pulleys 49 and 40.
When the typewriter is in use, the motor runs continuously and, therefore, the cam rotates continuously by means of the links described above.
The cam follower 37 has an arm 51 the rear end 52 of which is U-shaped and is mounted both to oscillate and to swing on a fixed shaft 53 which is parallel to the axis of rotation of the cam. .
A return spring 54, interposed between the arm 51 and a collar 55 fixed on the shaft 53, pushes the cam follower 37 to the left to the position shown in FIG. 1, in which a roller 37a carried by: the arm 51 is moved out of the plane of the cam 39 so as not to be able to come into engagement with the latter. When the parts are in these positions, as shown in fig. 1, the arm 51 is hand held against a stop 56 by the spring 38, the stop 56 thus determining the upper normal position of the roller 37a,
so that the roller is closer to the axis of the cam than the radially outermost profile of either of the two cam lobes 57, the roller 37a being however further from the axis of rotation of the cam that the profile of the innermost peripherally cam between the lobes 57.
Manual devices are. planned for. selectively activate and inactive the of cam mechanism D. A key lever 58 pivots at 59 on a cross member 60 forming part of the fixed frame A and i2 is normally maintained in a raised position, as shown in fig. 1, by a spring 61.
A link 62 pivots at 63 at the rear end of the button lever 58, and pivots at 64. On an arm 65a of a lever 65 mounted on a fixed pivot 66. The other arm 651 of the lever 65 pivots at 67 at one end of a link 68, the other end of which pivots at 69 on a lever 70 which pivots at 71 on the fixed frame A.
The rear end of the lever 70 has a vertical fin 72 which is connected to the U-shaped part 52 accompanying the cam, by an elastic spring 73 motion transmitter, the arrangement being such that when the lever 70 is moved in the clockwise, seen from above in figures 1 and 2, the spring 73 elastically pulls the cam follower to the right against the bias of the return spring 54 to place the roller 37a in the plane of the cam 39.
Operation The parts being in their normal positions, as shown in fig..1, the motor 43 is started and the cam 39 is continuously driven. The cam follower 37 is moved to the left under. the action of the return spring 54, so that the roller 37a is out of the plane of the cam and cannot be actuated by the latter.
Accordingly, hook 35 is held in a raised position by spring 38 and spring 27 holds the bat as elongated in its position shown in FIG. 1 so as to keep the control pawl 21 in the withdrawn position with its tip 25 out of engagement with the ratchet wheel 9. To perform any chosen number of line spacing movements of the ratchet wheel 9, the , key lever 58 is lowered and held there for a time which depends on the number of line spacings desired.
The depression of the key 58 activates the link 62, the lever 65 and the link 68 to lower the lever 70 in the direction of clockwise, seen from above in the figures 1 < / B> and 2, which pulls the spring 73 to the right and tends to move the cam follower 37 in. the same direction, against the action of the return spring 54.
If, during the movement of the follower 37 to the right, its roller 37a comes into contact with the side face of one of the cam lobes 57, the roller 37a, and therefore the follower 37, will be temporarily blocked against any slack. further to the right, and the movement transmission spring 73 will yield to allow the continuation of the tilting of the lever 70 and the depression of the key 58.
When the aforementioned lobe of the cam passes past the follower 37, the spring 73 produces the movement of the follower 37 to the right so as to bring the roller 37a in the plane of the cam 39, externally, beyond the profile. the innermost of the periphery of the cam, so that the roller 37,1 can engage with the other cam lobe 57.
This engagement of the roller 37a by the lobe 57 rocks the follower 37 downwards or counterclockwise (fig. 1 and 2) to lower the connecting rod 33 and tilt the leaf 30 in the direction of the needle. of a watch by the pressure exerted on the lip of the leaf 32, by the hook 35. The link 33 acts to tilt the leaf 30 regardless of the position of the carriage on the frame.
The tilting of the leaf 30, caused by the lowering of the link 35, pushes the pawl 21 forward to bring its point 25 into engagement with the ratchet wheel 9 and rotate the latter, as well as the roller. When the cam lobe 57 passes past the roller 37,1, the res out 38 can raise the link 33, which allows the spring 27 to tilt the leaf 30 in the opposite direction. clockwise and withdraw the pawl 21, completing a single cycle of spacing.
As long as the key lever 58 is held down, the cam lobes 57 successively engage the roller 37a and the follower 37 and lower them, to produce repeated descents of the link 33 alternating with upward movements caused. by the return spring 38, which gives the rod 33 a native alternating movement, rocks the leaf 30, and actuates the pawl 21 a number of times which depends on the time during which the button lever 58 is kept lowered . Thus, any desired number of repeated spacings of the ratchet wheel 9 can be made.
When the key 58 is released, and which is returned to its position illustrated in FIG. 1 by the spring 61, the return spring 54 pushes the cam follower 37 to the left so as to move the roller 37d out of the working plane of the cam 39, which completes the spacing work of the ratchet wheel 9.
