<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Device for automatic adjustment of the chain tension spring in chain derailment gear changes.
In chain derailleur gear changes ,. comprising one or more lever arms intended to tension the free end of the chain, it is necessary to obtain an adjustment of the pressure of the tension spring, as a function of the lateral displacement of the slider, which makes the subject of this patent.
In the appended drawing showing by way of non-limiting example of embodiment the subject of the invention:
Figure I shows a general elevational view of a chain derailment gear change.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
equipped with the device according to the invention, the chain being engaged with a large diameter pinion.
Figure 2 shows a side view corresponding to figure I.
FIG. 3 shows an overall view in elevation of a gear change by chain derailment equipped with the device according to the invention, the chain being engaged with a pinion of small diameter.
FIG. 4 schematically shows the device and the mode of attachment by slider of the end of the flexible cable to the movable part of the spring.
FIG. 5 shows, in a partial schematic view, the method of attaching the end of the flexible cable to a variable point of the movable strand of the spring, by hooking into one of the notches formed by the movable strand.
According to this adjustment device: the tensioning arm I of the gear change in question (figures 1, 2 and 3) is connected to the moving part 2 of the tension spring 5 by means of a flexible cable 4. This cable s 'wraps on a pulley 5, then hooks onto the control of the ball adeu r system at 6.
This attachment is carried out by any known means, such as a welded yoke, stud, cable clamp, clamping screw, clips detachable by hand, hook or carabiner, etc.
The control of the sliding system is represented (Figures I and 2) by a chain 7 and a cable 8, in order to describe an embodiment, but it goes without saying that any other control system such as a rigid rod, oscillating lever, cam, etc. .. allows you to adapt the same cable 4.
Figure 3 shows that when we act on the cable 8,
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
to control the ballader, lever I tilts backwards, the chain being placed on the smallest pinion of the gear change. At this time, the cable 8 having driven the cable 4, the latter forced the strand 2 of the spring to incline forward, thus increasing the initial tension of the spring.
FIG. 4, schematizing the movements, makes it possible to realize that; the displacement B of the cable 8 being known, the tension angle G may be increased or reduced, depending on the length of the lever arm A acting on the strand 2 of the spring.
This length A can be determined once and for all during the construction of the system, or be adjustable at the will of the user; example: slider 9 with stop screw 10 is used to increase or decrease. the length A,
It can therefore be seen that this system allows all possible combinations, since it varies the ratio of the respective angular displacements of the arms I and 2. If the length A is chosen such that the angular displacements of I and 2 are equal , the spring pressure will remain constant at all speeds. If, on the contrary, the displacement of 2 is faster than that of I (by shortening the length A), the spring pressure will be greater when the lever arm I is tilted backwards, so the chain engages on the small ones. teeth of the controlled hub.
As an adjustment variant (figure 5), the length A can be changed by moving the cable hooking loop 4 in a series of notches II established on the strand 2 of the spring 3 by profiling the strand 2 or by an attached part. .
FIG. 2 shows that the control cable 4 can be fitted at both ends with instantly detachable loops or hooks, which allows the user to remove
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
When adjusting the tension, by unhooking the cable 4, then by hooking the spring 2 directly to the oscillating lever I, by reciprocity, this quick hooking makes it possible to adapt the system very easily to speed changes in service.
The cable can be sheathed, provided with screw tensioners intended for length adjustment, replaced even by a chain, articulated rod, pulley or cam actuated by the control of the walker or the walker itself, this not constituting Rue des variant applications by known means, but remaining within the scope of the invention.
