Derailleur device for cycles. There are already derailleur devices for cycles, in which the derailleur pinion is connected to the movable lever attached to the cycle fork by means of a leaf spring bent on itself, which allows, by means of a cable - the command to move the pinion in one direction, the spring returning this pinion to its initial position when: the action exerted on this cable ceases.
In these derailleurs, a guide is interposed between the movable lever and "the derailer pinion, so that this pinion slides while remaining parallel to itself.
According to one embodiment of these known devices; the guide is formed by the axis on which the derailleur pinion is mounted idle, this axis being mounted: sliding on the movable lever.
In these known derailleurs, the following difficulties arise: 11) The control cable can only be attached to the movable pinion at a point if killed at some distance from the theoretical axis of this pinion, since the axial part of this pin. is bored for its sliding on the guide axis.
The traction effect of the control cable on the derailleur pinion is therefore oblique, which increases the sliding friction of this pinion on the guide pin, and can, under certain circumstances, cause it to jam. 20 The guide pin of the derailleur pinion being slidably mounted on the mobile lever, protrudes outwards:
of this movable lever when the derailleur pinion occupies its position closest to this lever. This projecting part of the guide axis is inconvenient for the user; moreover, it is exposed to shocks and can be made, which puts the -derailleur out of service.
30 The derailleur sprocket slidably mounted on the guide shaft moves parallel to itself. When changing the drive gear. the chain, which is slightly oblique with respect to the plane of the teeth of the derailleur pinion, operates under conditions which can cause asymmetric wear of its links.
The object of the present invention is to remedy these difficulties.
It relates to a derailleur device, square, ct6risé -in that the pinion: derailleur is in connection with guide members' allowing it to tilt in any direction according to the lateral forces developed by the chain in deforming the spring, to allow the pinion to always work with the teeth normally engaged between the links of this chain.
A derailleur slide for cycles according to the invention is shown, by way of example, in its accompanying drawings in fig. 1 is a perspective view of the derailleur assembly, this derail device being mounted on the rear wheel of a bicycle.
Fig. 2 is a view of the d6railer device, this view taken from the outside of the bicycle. Fig. 3 is a view of this device: derailer, this view being taken from inside the bicycle.
Fig. 4 is a side view of the derailleur device.
Fig. 5 -is a partial section of the positive derailleur along the line V-V of FIG. 2.
Fig. 6 is a section showing the assembly of the derailleur pinion.
The derailleur device for cycles or other similar vehicles shown, by way of example, in FIGS. from 1 to 6 of the attached drawing ,, comprises like the devices con nus a lever arm I fixed to year 2 on the.
fork of the bicycle and articulated at 3 on the movable lever 4 of the derailleur. A spring 8 is interposed between these two levers and constantly tends to rotate the movable lever of the derailleur according to the arrow f 1, so as to tension the chain of the bicycle.
The derailleur pinion 5 is mounted idle on a pin 30 (FIG. 6) fixed, on the one hand, to the leaf spring 13 by a nut 31, on the other hand, to a movable cross member 32. This movable cross member 32 carries to each of its ends a notch 33, 34, which engages on a guide pin 35, 36.
The two guide axes 35, 36 parallel to each other are fixed at the end to a fixed cross member 37 clamped at the same time as the spring 13 at the end of the movable lever 4 (fig. 1 and 5).
The axes ide guide 35, 36 are; constituted by threaded rods, the angled head 38, 39 of which forms a stop for the movable cross member 32, urged by the spring 13 in the direction of the arrow f'2, (fig. 4 and 5 ). These threaded rods are fixed by their threaded end to the ends of the fixed cross member 37 by nuts 40 and locknuts 41.
The fixing of the fixed cross member 37 to the end of the movable lever 4 is done as i1 is shown in FIG. 5. A screw 42 pierced with an axial channel 43 has a circular head 44 of significant diameter. This screw is engaged in a hole 45 made at the end of the movable lever 4.
A nut 46 mounted on the screw 42 tightens, on the one hand, the ends of the spring 13 between the circular head 44 and the movable lever 4, on the other hand, the fixed cross member 37 between the movable lever 4 and the nut 46 itself.
The assembly of the derailleur pinion 5 on the leaf spring 13 and on the movable cross member 32 is shown in fig. 6.
The axis 30 on which the non-derailleur pin 5 is mounted insane carries a flange 47 -of circular shape, against which the movable cross member 32 engaged by a median opening on the axis 30 rests. its turn on the axis 30 clamps the movable cross member 32 against the collar 47, and on the other hand, by its external cylindrical surface, forms a rolling surface for 12 derailleur pinion 5.
The spring 13 is itself clamped against the. ring 48 by a nut, outer 49 screwed onto a threaded extension 50 of axis 30.
On the other hand, the shaft 30 is axially drilled with a channel 51 which opens from the outside onto a small housing 52 and which extends from the inside through a threaded hole 53 in which is screwed in a hollow screw 54. This screw can be operated by a pan head 55 and immobilized by a nut 56 which rests on the collar 47.
The traction cable 91, at the end of which a grain 92 is welded, passes into the channel of the screw 54, the grain 92 being retained in the housing 52. This cable then passes axially through the screw 44 (fig. 5). in channel 43 of this screw, then it follows its external path.
The device described above operates as follows: To pass chain 6 from one to the other of the pinions 24, 2_42 fixed to the axle of the rear wheel (fig. 1), and consequently to produce the gear change, the cyclist just needs to exert traction on the inner wire 91 of the remote control cable 9. This wire transmits the traction to the derailleur pinion 5, to which it is axially connected by its end grain 92 (fig. 6).
The derailleur pinion 5 then moves along f 3 (fig. 4) @by deforming the spring 1.3, the movable cross member 32 sliding, through the notches 33, 34 of its ends, on the fixed guide pins 35, 36. The chain 6 then passes from one to the other of the pinions 24. 24z, which ensures the speed change.
The hollow screw 54, 55. whose position is adjusted by screwing in the axis 30 and which is immobilized by the nut 56, allows by stop against the screw 42, 44 to limit the displacement of the derailleur pinion 5 and the deformation. spring 13.
As soon as the traction of the control cable 91 ceases, the bent spring 13 which bears on the lever 4 relaxes and returns the derailleur pinion 5 to its original position; chain 6 passes from one sprocket to the other, which restores the initial speed.
In this movement, the movable cross member 32 slides again on the fixed guide axes through the end notches 33, 34 until it comes under the action of the curved seat 13 to lean against the heads with sides 38, 39 of these guide pins. The derailleur pinion 5 is thus immobilized in its initial position.
The device described above has the following technical advantages: The control cable 91 of the derailleur pinion 5 exerts its action at the very center of this pinion by means of the end grain 92 which rests in the housing 52 of the axis 30. This pinion is thus urged to move along its axis without tendency to tilt on the latter.
20 The derailleur pinion 5 being integral with the movable cross member 32, which itself is only engaged on the guide pins 35. 36 by notches 33, 34, -this derailleur pinion, while at a distance guided by the exes- 35, 36, can tilt with the movable cross member 32. as shown in fig. 5, by disymmetrically deforming the spring 13.
This assembly therefore allows the derailleur pinion 5 to follow the slight changes in direction of the chain when changing speeds and to always remain engaged normally in the links of this chain, thus avoiding asymmetric wear at faith, - the derailleur pin 5 and chain 6.
The cross member 32 can moreover turn slightly around its longitudinal axis, the notches 33, 34 thus forming a joint.
Ultimately, the derailleur pinion is mounted in the manner of a ball joint so as to take all appropriate directions in space.
30 The derailleur pinion 5 integral with the movable cross member 32 slides between the two guide pins 35, 36 mounted fixed. on the lever 4. These two axes do not form any sail binds inside this lever 4 and are thus protected from shocks coming from the outside. The claimed device is thus much less fragile than known derailleurs.
