Chain wheel device for chain speed change. The present invention relates to a chain wheel device for chain speed change used for example for vehicles such as bicycles, tan dems, tricycles, etc.
The device according to the invention comprises a set of chain wheels of different sizes, mounted on a rotary hub so as to be able to move longitudinally on the latter. This device can for example be used in a chain speed change comprising a driving wheel and tensioning means for the chain, that of the chain wheels of the device engaged with the chain being brought into alignment with the chain wheel. 'training. Different speeds will be obtained depending on that of the chain wheels of the device, which will be engaged with the drive chain.
The device according to the invention is characterized by members controlling the movement of longitudinal displacement of the chain wheel assembly and comprising a sleeve guided by the wall of a bore of the hub so as to be able to slide.
In a preferred embodiment, a key driven by the sleeve is employed, which can slide in a longitudinal slot of the hub and engages with a sliding part carrying the assembly of chain wheels, this key being able to be fixed in a removable manner. to the socket. In a preferred embodiment, the key can enter a notch at the end of the socket and can be locked therein by a removable plate which attaches to this socket.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention, as well as a variant of detail.
Fig. 1 is a vertical section, on a large scale, passing through the central axis of this embodiment of the device which is intended to be employed in a chain gear change for a bicycle or tan dem, and FIG. 2 is a partial view similar to FIG. 1, showing a detail variant. The rotary hub 2, of generally cylindrical shape, is bored at 3 from one end to the other.
A fixed axle 4 extends through the bore 3 and supports the hub by means of ball bearings 5. The end 6 of the hub projects substantially beyond the adjacent flange 7 to which the spokes are fixed and is grooved on the outside at 8. A support sleeve 9 supporting all of the chain wheels is mounted so as to be able to slide smoothly on this grooved end; the set includes three chain wheels 10, 11 and 12 of different sizes; the wheels 11 and 12 being screwed onto an intermediate piece 13 and the wheel 10 being screwed onto a threaded flange socket integral with the piece 13.
A one-way drive link, of any shape, is indicated at 14 and is located between bush 9 and intermediate piece 13. The chain wheels can therefore be removed individually without having to do so. have to touch the freewheel mechanism.
A bush 15 is located inside the hub; it is of a diameter such that it adjusts well to slide in the bore 3 and each end of this bush has an internal radial flange 16. The end of the bush located near the assembly of the wheels to chain is notched at 17 so as to receive an internal projection 18 of a key 19 mounted so as to be able to slide ser into a slot 20 of the end 6 of the hub. An external radial projection 21 of the other end of the key penetrates into a notch 22 of the support sleeve 9 of the assembly of chain wheels. The key is removably attached to the sleeve 15, by means of an end disc 23 which locks it in the notch 17 and is. fixed to the socket by means of screws 24.
Alternatively, as shown in the variant of FIG. 2, a threaded sleeve 23a can be used to secure the key to the sleeve 15 to screw into the sleeve 15 and having imt. flange 23b cut back conforming <z the dovetail 18a of the key. In this way, the bush 15 and the chain wheel assembly are movable in unison awialuui @@ ii #, and rotating.
In practice, two diametrically opposed keys 19 are preferably used, mounted in the manner described.
The axial movement is controlled as follows: Two washers 25 and 26 are mounted freely so as to be able to slide on the axis 4; these washers are located on each side of the internal radial flange 16 at the internal end of the sleeve, a small end play being provided as shown. These washers together form an actuating collar and a compression spring 28 is provided between the washer 25 and a cup. 7 mounted on the axis, this spring pushing the collar and therefore the sleeve to the right. An actuating rod 29 is located inside the axis and is connected to a flexible control member 30 fixed at its outer end.
Its internal end 31 is fixed to a guide member and to a transverse part 32 which extends through a longitudinal slot 33 of the axis, to cooperate with the washer 26 of the collar, in the manner shown. Thus, when the actuator is pulled out, the sleeve and the assembly of chain wheels are displaced axially to the left by the cross piece 32, while, when the actuator is released, the spring 28 acts through the ron delle 25 of the collar and the flange 16, to move the sleeve and the assembly of chain wheels to the right.
The control of the axial movement can be carried out using an actuating lever (not shown) located at the free end of the flexible control member: 30, this lever cooperating with a notched sector or toothed, in the well-known manner.
The construction of the device described is very robust and the assembly and disassembly of the various parts is simple. Like everything. the mechanism for moving all the chain wheels is inside the hub, it is protected from damage by shocks, blows or other causes and it can be lubricated effectively. The device described, compared to other known devices, allows a reduction in weight without compromising the strength and the resistance. In addition, by having chain wheels mounted independently, as described, various different gear ratios can be obtained easily and inexpensively, without having to tamper with the freewheel mechanism.
