Gear change device for cycles, with chain derailleur at the bottom bracket. In bicycles, tandems or the like with chain transmission and stepped sprockets, there is a category of gear changes intended to cause the chain to move sideways on the stepped sprockets, these being mounted on the motor shaft. (crank axle in the case of a bicycle for example).
These speed change devices quite often have drawbacks due to their bulk and the difficulty of adjusting them.
The device which is the subject of the present invention makes it possible to overcome these drawbacks. An embodiment of the object of the invention is shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing.
Fig. 1 shows the gear changing device in a side view.
Fig. 2 is an overall front view of the gear change device.
Fig. 3 is a plan and sectional view on a larger scale showing the gear change device (the phantom line schematically represents the derail in another position).
The gearshift device shown comprises: A fixing collar in two parts 10 and 11 which attach to the frame tube and support the entire mechanism. This two-part collar 10 and 11 therefore allows for height adjustment and easy adaptation on finished bicycles, but it can, during construction, be replaced by a support brazed and welded to the tube, at the suitable height.
This two-part collar 10 and 11 comprises in part 10 a cylindrical housing, in which moves a cylinder 8 with a ring 6 for adjusting the axial stroke, said cylinder carrying at its end the axis 5 of the derailleur four. . The axis 5 is movable in a bore of the cylinder 8, the screw 7 blocking the axis 5 in the desired position relative to the cylinder 8. The axis 5 may include a flat on which the screw 7 rests, this which gives greater efficiency in tightening.
The lateral displacement movement of the assembly 5-8 is given by a crank 13 pivoting in a notch of the cylinder 8. This crank 13 pivots on an axis 14 which rotates itself in a corresponding bore of the collar 10 forming a support. The axis 14 is extended to the desired height by an operating handle 15. It is visible that this axis 14, by construction, is attached to the frame tube, and that this command, effective in both directions, is also protected. protected against any accidental snagging.
The derailment fork is constituted by a flange 1 and counter flange 2, of suitable profile, in the form of a circular segment with a radius corresponding to the pinions of the crankset, in order to be able to properly guide the winding of the chain on said sprockets.
These flange and counter-flange are joined by screws 4 with spacer 3, which allows the width to be adjusted by construction, depending on the chain used, by using screws 4 and spacers 3 in length. wanted. It goes without saying that if the width of the chain is determined in advance, this method of assembly can be replaced by riveted or welded columns, or any other known means. Similarly, the flange and counter-flange:
1 and 2 can be made in a single piece, the spacing equivalent to the spacers 3 being made by suitable bending.
Operation: The chain passing between the flanges 1 and 2 forming a derailment fork, is biased laterally when the cyclist acts on the handle 15, the chain line then moves from one. pinions 17 on pinion 18 attached to it, that is to say from chain line A to chain A =.
The set 1 and 2 also form a veritable safety guide preventing the chain from jumping off the toothed wheels of the crankset when rolling with a floating chain or barely stretched.
This pedal speed change device can therefore be used simultaneously with a rear wheel speed change device with tension. of zero or almost zero chain, which increases the efficiency of the transmission in question, while maintaining full operating safety, even with strong vibrations:
If the change of speed at the bottom bracket is combined with a change of speed at the rear wheel, the speed change controls are independent and operated separately.
Fixing screws 12 ensure the tightening of the collar 11, a plug 9 in the form of a shutter and dust cover. The cylinder 8 is drilled with an ovalized hole longitudinally, so as to allow the screw 7 to tighten on the axis 5 while retaining the possibility of axial adjustment of the stop ring 6.
The movement of the cylinder 8 and derailment fork assembly is limited in the direction of the arrow by the adjustable stop ring 6; the movement of the assembly in the other direction is limited by the reduced amplitude of the rotation of the crank 13.
