<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

@
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Improvements to automatic load brakes.
The main patent relates to a brake linkage intended more particularly for railway rolling stock, and making it possible to automatically adjust the braking according to the load applied to each axle.
The linkage which is the subject of the main patent is characterized mainly in that a multiplier lever is interposed between the drawbar coming from the linkage and the axle balancers. A carriage associated with this lever and movable relative to it, makes it possible to modify the multiplication ratio. The movements of this trolley are com-
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
mandated by those of an axle suspension spring, that is to say according to the load on this axle. In addition, a spring tends to return the carriage to the high position, a position which corresponds to minimum braking.
Such an arrangement has the drawback that in the event of failure of one of the members connecting the carriage to the suspension spring, the carriage falls back to the maximum braking position and the latter can then be allocated to the axle.
On the other hand, in the arrangement shown and described in the main patent, the control bar is joined to the carriage; since a certain clearance necessarily exists between the carriage and the associated lever, the position of the latter is not perfectly defined, which constitutes a drawback since it is the position of this lever which determines the amplitude of the movement of the lever. wheelhouse.
The present invention, due to the work of Mr. Anselme NEVEU, relates to improvements made to the automatic load brake described in the main patent.
It is mainly characterized in that the movable member is connected to the axle linkage by a connecting rod and an intermediate point of this connecting rod is joined by an articulated system to a suspension element of the vehicle; this articulated system pivots around a fixed point so that a raising of the suspension element relative to the frame causes a raising of the connecting rod and consequently of the movable member; the drawbar of the brake is joined to the multiplier lever.
Other particular characteristics and advantages will become apparent on reading the description which follows.

By way of example, and without any limitation, a possible embodiment of the present invention will be described. This embodiment is shown in the accompanying drawing in which:
FIG. 1 shows the automatic load brake linkage according to the invention, in the released empty position.
Figure 2 is a similar view corresponding to the load released position.
In the drawing, we find the lever 1, its notch 2. This lever is articulated in 3 on the vehicle frame.
At 26 is articulated on the lever 1, the traction rod 10 (coming from the brake cylinder, if it is a brake ', fluid under pressure).
Dans.le embodiment described in the main patent, this connecting rod 10 is joined to the carriage 7 which we now find with its two rollers 8 which roll in the notch 2 of the lever 1. The ramp 5 of the latter is in - paid compared to the ramp of the previous embodiment
We find in @ a binocular provided with a jamming boss 23 intended to cooperate with the ramp 5. On this binocular 9 is articulated a connecting rod 25, the other end 27 of which is integral with the axle linkage.
At an intermediate point 28 of the connecting rod 25 is articulated one of the ends of a compass 29, the other end of which is integral with a shaft 30 pivoting in the support 6. The spring 18 is always adjustable by bolts and nuts 19, is arranged between the lower end of the lever 1 and a point of the connecting rod 25.
@
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The shaft 30 is secured to a crank 31 on which is articulated a link 32 secured on the other hand to a lever 20 pivoting at 13 on a support 14 fixed on the frame. On the other end of the lever 20 is articulated the twin 21 of the suspension spring 22.
The operation of the device is as follows: With the vehicle empty (FIG. 1), the carriage 7 is at the bottom of the notch 2. The spring 18 facilitates this descent of the carriage. By braking then we obtain minimum braking.
If the load of the vehicle increases, the displacement of the suspension spring 22 causes a rotation of the lever 20 in the opposite direction (FIG. 2) of the needles of a clock.
By the connecting rod 32, the crank 31. the axis 30 and the compass 29, it insults a raising of the connecting rod 25 and by the latter a raising of the carriage 7 in the notch 2, while the spring 18 is stretched.
We are then in the maximum braking position.
The advantages of the arrangement described are, moreover, those listed at the beginning of the present description: the fact that the spring 18 is fixed between the connecting rod 25 and the lever 1 makes it possible to use a weaker spring than in the mode. previous achievement. It is possible to reduce the axes of the rollers 8 which no longer have to support a small part of the braking force, while allowing the locking system of the mobile bar to be more energetic. Finally, the inverted ramp lends itself better to it. construction of the lever 1.
It is possible to adapt to the wheelhouse which has just been described, as well as to that described in the main patent,
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
an adjuster acting by moving the fixed point. This adjuster can advantageously be the one mentioned in the patent application filed the same day for "Brake linkage adjuster by fixed point displacement".
By way of example, we have shown how this adaptation can be made. We see at 33 the adjuster fixed at 54 on the body of the vehicle, and at 35 the articulation of the balance 36 of the axle linkage.
The control of the journals 37 is associated by a fork lever 38 mounted on the end 27 of the connecting rod 25.
The embodiments described above have been described for explanatory purposes only. It is possible to envisage modifications without thereby departing from the scope of the present invention.
