Dans ce but, il est nécessaire de faire en sorte que le pistonvalve ne retourne pas à sa position normale la plus basse, et en même temps, il est désirable que le dispositif de réglage de la soupape à pointeau - par lequel un mélange riche est fourni pour le démarrage en relevant ou abaissant le siège de soupape reste en fonction. conformément à l'invention, le carburateur est pourvu d'un dispositif indépendant pour la marche à vide ou au ralenti, qui délivre du combustible au tuyau d'aspiration au bord on près du bord de la soupape d'étranglement ;

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

improvements to carburettors.
The present invention relates to improvements to carburettors and applies to the type of expansion carburetor in which a piston-valve, operated by the suction of the engine, controls the main air passage and carries a needle valve for the control of the liquid fuel supply.
In these carburetors, there is always some opposition or resistance to the movement of the piston-valve, due to the friction of the guide, the suction piston and the dashpot (if a dashpot is provided) and this can result in the piston -valve does not return to exactly the same position every time the engine is idling or idling.
This results in variations in the mixture fed to the engine during idling or idling, resulting in
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
some disadvantages.
The object of the invention is to make practical the use of a device for idling or idling, distributing fuel to the edge of the throttle valve, a device which is frequently employed with other types of carburetor.
For this purpose, it is necessary to ensure that the pistonvalve does not return to its lowest normal position, and at the same time it is desirable that the adjustment device of the needle valve - by which a rich mixture is supplied for starting by raising or lowering the valve seat remains in operation. according to the invention, the carburetor is provided with an independent device for idling or idling, which delivers fuel to the suction pipe at the edge or near the edge of the throttle valve;
this carburetor is provided with a spacer around the needle valve, a part which has one or more passages in its wall, for the fuel and extends between the piston-valve and the adjustable seat of the needle valve her. when the piston-valve is in its lowest position, so that the lowest position of the piston-valve can be adjusted by adjusting the seat of the needle valve,
The spacer can be carried by the seat of the needle valve (in which case it can constitute an extension of this seat), but it is preferably carried by the piston-valve and it is thus well clear of the regulating valve. fuel during normal operation.
Preferably, the internal diameter of the spacer is larger than that of the top of the needle valve seat so as to ensure that necking of the jet always occurs at the point where the needle enters the seat.
An exemplary embodiment of the object of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing in which:
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Fig.l gives a vertical section of the carburetor and the device for idling, the cut being made, for the latter, at a slightly different plane from the plane of the other parts of the carburetor.
Fig. 2 is a section following the traces shown in fig.l and
Fig.3 is a repetition, on a larger scale, of part of Fig.l. a is the main air intake inlet to the carburetor, the air passing to the suction pipe through a channel a1 controlled by a manually operated throttle valve a2 and by a piston-valve a3 operated by a suction piston which moves in reciprocating motion in the suction cylinder a5 on 1 where the negative pressure on the carburetor side of the throttle valve acts through the passage a6.
An extension a7 of the suction piston a4 moves in reciprocating motion in an internal cylinder which has a small orifice a9 communicating with the air channel to form a horn; this cylinder constitutes a guide for the suction piston.
At the bottom of the valve piston a3 is attached a needle b which controls the supply of fuel to the mixing chamber of the carburetor. This needle controls the supply of fuel in combination with a sleeve b1 arranged so as to rise or to lower, to change the composition of the mixture, thanks to the levers b2 and the spring b3. Fuel is brought to the valve through passages. 2. at the bottom of the sleeve bl; it comes from the chamber c2, which is itself supplied from the float chamber c3 c4. This float chamber is supplied by a c5 pipe.
All of the parts mentioned above are of a well-known type.
At the bottom of the valve piston a3 is fixed an annular spacer d (see figure 3), the wall of which is provided with a
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
double row of holes d1. As can be seen, the bottom of the valve piston a3 has a recess or depression d2 to provide clearance around the upper series of holes d1. The part d rests, when the parts occupy the position shown, on the top of the sleeve bl and, as can be seen, the lowest position of the valve piston can be adjusted relative to the bottom of the air channel, by raising or lowering the sleeve b1.
A protrusion or rib d3 formed on the bottom of the air channel constitutes a seat for the valve piston a3 when the latter is fully lowered.
The carburetor is provided with a device for idling, which comprises a tube or cylinder e forming an integral part of the carburetor, and in the bottom of which is screwed a plug f whose top forms a nozzle. The interior of the plug or pin f is fed at the bottom with fuel from the float chamber.
Air is supplied to the tube.! by a duct f1 and a sleeve f2 screwed into the top of the tube e and chamfered at its bottom in f3 to form an adjustable constriction around the spout f.
The mixture for idling goes beyond that. part f2 and exits through the radial holes and through an annular channel g1 in a duct g2, then, through the interior of a hollow plug g3, passes into the suction pipe of the engine, at the edge of the valve choke a2. The setting for idling can be changed by turning the plug g3 and this is done by a threaded part h whose threads attack a helical wheel, not shown mounted on the end of the plug.
The device described operates as follows: To start, the valve piston a3 is lowered from the position shown in the drawing, lowering the sleeve b1 until the piston track a3 rests on the rib d3 or is barely kept free from this rib, by the sleeve b1 and the spacer d.

piration past the holes d1 of the spacer d, and, since the suction is powerful, a relatively rich fuel mixture will be sucked through these holes and fed to the engine.
When the idling sleeve b1 is raised and carries with it the spacer ± !: and the piston-valve a3, more air flows under the piston-valve towards the suction pipe, but as the clearance between the needle b and the top of the seat b1 has not changed, and as the suction has decreased, the richness of the explosive mixture decreases. The idle device will then deliver fuel from that point to the air stream past the throttle valve and meet the needs of the engine.
The mixture thus supplied can always be enriched, for example when the engine is warmed up, by lowering the sleeve b1 and increasing the suction.
When the throttle valve is more open, to accelerate from idle to idle, the piston valve will be raised by the engine suction, in the normal way, and the spacer d will be raised and clear of the needle valve seat.
The spacer d may have an internal diameter greater than that of the top of the sleeve b1 in order to ensure that the greatest constriction is always found at the point where the needle enters the sleeve.
