Abstract

Los presentes inventores han descubierto que la reología de solucion de los éteres de celulosa preparados a partir de la pulpa de celulosa está alterada por la mercerizacion y recuperacion de pulpa de celulosa antes de preparar los éteres de celulosa. Por ejemplo, la viscosidad de solucion de celulosa de carboximetilo (CMC) producidos de la pulpa de celulosa mercerizada y recuperada es significativamente más grande que aquella producida a partir de pulpa de celulosa no mercerizada. La presente proporciona un método para preparar éteres de celulosas que comprenden los pasos de a) obtener pulpa de celulosa mercerizada y recuperada y b) convertir la pulpa de celulosa mercerizada y recuperada en éteres de celulosa. De acuerdo con una realizacion la pulpa de celulosa es de kraft de madera blanda austral y la pulpa de celulosa mercerizada posee una viscosidad TAPPI 230 om-89 de a lo sumo 12 cP. Este método, sin embargo, pueden aplicarse a todas las pulpas de celulosa, sin importar su viscosidad, incluyendo aquellas que, una vez mercerizadas tienen una viscosidad superior a 12 cP. La pulpa de celulosa mercerizada está típicamente libre de celulosa III. La pulpa de celulosa mercerizada preparada por este método tiene un mayor porcentaje de celulosa cristalina II y un área cristalina inferior que aquella de pulpa de celulosa no mercerizada. La presente también proporciona un método para preparar una masa de flocosa de celulosa que comprende los pasos de a) obtener pulpa de celulosa mercerizada y recuperada y b) tratar la pulpa mercerizada para formar la masa de flocosa de celulosa. De modo alternativo, el método comprende mercerizar y recuperar una masa de flocosa de celulosa. La masa de flocosa de celulosa preparada por este método tiene una densidad de volumen mayor que la masa de flocosa de celulosa preparada a partir de pulpa de celulosa no mercerizada similar. Además, la ganancia de densidad de volumen es mayor que la esperada de la ganancia de aspereza (peso por unidad de longitud de fibra) para preparar una masa de flocosa de celulosa.
