側面通気口2bは、上記排気系が配置される汎用エンジン1の左側面24に形成されている。側面通気口2bは、左側面24の背面側において前後方向に延びる複数の切欠きで構成される。
背面通気口2cは、トップカバー2の背面23の広範囲に亘って形成されている。背面通気口2cは、左右方向に延びて長さの異なる複数の切欠きで構成される。
燃料タンク5には、汎用エンジン1の両側方のうちエアクリーナ6が配置される吸気側の側方(図では右側方)に、燃料供給口を塞ぐ給油キャップ52と、燃料をエンジン本体に供給する燃料チューブ53と、燃料を燃料タンク5に循環させる燃料戻しチューブ54が配置されている。
燃料タンク5の背面側には、燃料タンク5の背面側を覆い、汎用エンジン1の左右方向の中央部分において上下方向に延びる板状の保護部材であるタンクガード51が配置されている。このタンクガード51には、リコイルスタータ7を取り付けるための取付孔51aが形成されている。なお、リコイルスタータ7は、グリップ71の他に図示しないプーリやプーリに巻き付けられグリップ71に接続されたロープ等を含んで構成され、ユーザによるグリップ71の操作によってクランクシャフトに回転力を与えて汎用エンジン1を始動させる。
