Such interconnection is secured to the implant by means of a screw and support ring, to then receive the prosthetic component as a secondary element, which is secured to the interconnect by a second screw. It is noted that the support ring retaining the interconnect screw is secured to the underside of the interconnect after insertion of the screw also through the underside of the interconnect, which is then secured within the interconnect. However, the described ring does not facilitate the removal process of the prosthetic component as it is secured by the second set screw which needs to be removed for removal of the prosthetic component as in the prior art.
- US 4,927,363 discloses a shoulder-seated compression ring of a prosthetic component between a threaded portion and a centering pin of the screw. This ring has the function of improving the seal between the components and also does not assist in the removal of the prosthetic component when it undergoes repeated operating cycle torque.
