Description
本発明は、多極コネクタ、特に、回路基板同士を電気的に接続する際に用いられる多極コネクタに関する。
回路基板同士を電気的に接続する際に用いられる多極コネクタとして、特許文献1に記載の小型多極電気コネクタが知られている。この種の多極コネクタ(以下、従来の多極コネクタと称す)は、コンタクトと呼ばれる内部端子が配列された絶縁ブロック及び、該絶縁ブロックを囲む金属シェルから構成されている。ここで、従来の多極コネクタにおける金属シェルは、絶縁ブロックの側面の下端に設けられた複数の係止突起を、該金属シェルの下端に設けられた複数の係止穴に差し込むことにより、該絶縁ブロックに取り付けられている。また、従来の多極コネクタでは、回路基板同士を接続する際に金属シェルに加わる力に対応するために、金属シェルの上端における中央部を絶縁ブロックに向かって折り曲げ、該中央部を絶縁ブロック上面に設けられた凹部に嵌めこんでいる。
ところで、従来の多極コネクタでは、上述のとおり、取り付け又は強度対策のために、金属シェルと絶縁ブロックとを係止穴や凹部など複数箇所で固定している。このように、部品同士を複数箇所で固定する場合、それらの固定部分をしっかりとかみ合わせるために、固定部分には高い位置精度が求められる。従って、従来の多極コネクタでは、金属シェル及び絶縁ブロックの固定部分に高い位置精度が求められるため、製造工程の複雑化や製造コストの増大を招来していた。
本発明の目的は、構成部品の固定部分に高い位置精度を必要とせずに、該構成部品を簡単に組み立てることができる多極コネクタを提供することである。
本発明の一の形態に係る多極コネクタは、第1の回路基板と第2の回路基板とを電気的に接続する際に用いられる多極コネクタである。前記第1の回路基板に固定される外部端子と、一方側の面が前記外部端子の外枠部に接するように載置され、他方側の面が該外部端子の折り曲げ部により前記外枠部に向かって押えつけられることで該外部端子に固定される絶縁部材と、前記絶縁部材に設けられた溝に嵌められ、その一部が該絶縁部材から露出している内部端子とを備えている。前記折り曲げ部は、前記外枠部から伸びる部分であって前記他方側の面に向かって折り曲げられた部分である。
本発明の一の形態に係る多極コネクタでは、絶縁部材の一方側の面が外部端子の外枠部に接するように載置され、他方側の面が該外部端子の折り曲げ部により外枠部に向かって押えつけられることにより該絶縁部材は該外部端子に固定されている。このような構造は、従来の多極コネクタと比較して簡素な構造であり、その組み立てのために、絶縁部材や外部端子の固定部分に対して高い位置精度を必要としない。
本発明によれば、構成部品の固定部分に高い位置精度を必要とせずに、該構成部品を簡単に組み立てることができる。
以下では、多極コネクタ10における外部端子12に対して絶縁部材16を組み付ける方向を上下方向と称す。また、多極コネクタ10の複数の内部端子14a~14cが整列している方向を左右方向と称し、上下方向及び左右方向と直交する方向を前後方向と称す。さらに、左右方向、及び前後方向を含む上下方向に直交する方向を、水平方向と称す。
(多極コネクタの構成 図1乃至図8参照)
一実施例である多極コネクタ10は、例えば、配線を含むフレキシブル基板、プリント基板などの回路基板上に実装され、図1及び図2に示すように、外部端子12、複数の内部端子14a~14c及び絶縁部材16を備えている。

外部端子12は、接地電位に接続される導体である。また、外部端子12は、リン青銅などの一枚の金属板が折り曲げられることにより作製されている。そして、外部端子12は、図3に示すように、外枠部20、折り曲げ部24a,24b及び接続部26a~26cから構成されている。
外枠部20は、図4に示すように、骨格部21及びガイド部22a~22dを有している。骨格部21は、上下方向に延在する中心軸の周囲を周回する帯状の導体である。また、骨格部21を上方向から見ると、左右方向を長辺とする長方形の外縁に沿う環状を成している。ただし、骨格部21における前側の長辺の一部が切り抜かれているため、骨格部21は、完全な環状を成しているわけではない。以下で、骨格部21の一部が切り抜かれている部分の左側の端部を端部21a、右側の端部を端部21bと称す。なお、上方向から骨格部21を見ると、骨格部21が成す長方形の4つの角は丸みを帯びている。
ガイド部22aは、骨格部21の左後ろの角の下端に設けられている。また、ガイド部22aの形状は、下方向に向かいながら、骨格部21が成す長方形の外側へ広がる扇型を成している。ここで、水平方向からガイド部22aの断面を見ると、ガイド部22aは骨格部21が成す長方形の内側に一旦向かい、その後外側へ広がる緩い曲線を描きながら下方向へ向かっている。これにより、外枠部20の左後ろの角に、内周側に張り出した凸部P1が設けられている。

折り曲げ部24aは、図3に示すように、骨格部21の左側の短辺の上端に接続されている。そして、後述する絶縁部材16が外枠部20に組み付けられると、折り曲げ部24aは、骨格部21が成す長方形の内側、つまり、右側に向かって折り曲げられる。

絶縁部材16は、外枠部20に載置及び固定される絶縁性の部材であり、外枠部20及び内部端子14a~14cを絶縁するとともに、内部端子14a~14cを保持する役割を担っている。また、図5及び図6に示すように、絶縁部材16の形状は、上方向から絶縁部材16を見ると、略長方形状を成している。ただし、絶縁部材16が成す長方形の左側の辺には絶縁部材16の内側に向かって切り欠かれた凹部E1が、右側の辺には絶縁部材16の内側に向かって切り欠かれた凹部E2が設けられている。具体的には、凹部E1,E2は、絶縁部材16の上下方向の厚みを薄くするような段差が、絶縁部材16が成す長方形の左右の辺近傍に設けられることにより、形成されている。そして、上述の折り曲げ部24a,24bが絶縁部材16の内側に向かって折り曲げられると、凹部E1,E2の上側に該折り曲げ部24a,24bが収まる。このように折り曲げ部24a,24bの一部が収まるように凹部E1,E2が絶縁部材16に設けられることで、多極コネクタ10を低背化することができる。なお、凹部E1,E2による絶縁部材16の上面の段差は必須ではない。また、絶縁部材16には、前後方向に伸びる複数の溝G1~G3が設けられている。3つの溝G1~G3は、左側から右側へと溝G1,溝G2,溝G3の順に並んでいる。なお、溝G1~G3は、絶縁部材16を上下方向に貫通している。
内部端子14a~14cはそれぞれ、信号電位又は接地電位に接続される導体である。また、内部端子14a~14cは、図1に示すように、左側からこの順に、絶縁部材16の溝G1~G3に嵌め込まれている。さらに、左右方向の両端に位置する内部端子14a,14cは信号が印加される信号端子であり、内部端子14bは接地電位に接続される接地端子である。従って、内部端子14a~14cでは、信号端子と接地端子とが交互に配置されている。また、内部端子14a~14cは、図7及び図8に示すように、1本の棒状の導体が折り曲げ加工されることにより作製されており、例えば、リン青銅等の銅系材料により作製されている。そして、内部端子14a~14cは、接触部30a~30c及び接続部32a~32cに分けることができる。
接触部30a~30cは、内部端子14a~14cを右方向から見たときに、下側に向かって開く開口部を有するU字型を成している。また、接触部30a~30cの両端部は折り曲げられて、わずかに前後方向に伸びている。
接続部32a~32cはそれぞれ、接触部30a~30cの前側の端部に接続され、内部端子14a~14cを左方向または右方向から見たときに、L字型を成している。具体的には、接続部32a~32cは、接触部30a~30cの前側の端部から上側に向かって伸び、さらにそこで折れ曲がり、前側に向かって伸びている。従って、接続部32a~32cはそれぞれ、接触部30a~30cから前側に向かって伸びている。また、接続部32a~32cにおける上側に向かって伸びている部分の太さは、内部端子14a~14cにおける他の部分よりも太い。
以上のように構成された多極コネクタ10は、回路基板に実装される。具体的には、回路基板に設けられたランド電極に対して折り曲げ部24a,24b及び接続部26a~26cがはんだにより接続され回路基板に実装される。

最後に、図11に示すように、上方に向かって突き出た折り曲げ部24a,24bの曲げ部分を、外枠部20の内側に向かって折り曲げる。これにより、折り曲げ部24a,24bの曲げ部分が、絶縁部材16の上面を下方向に押しつける。また、絶縁部材16の下面が外枠部20の骨格部21の上端に当接することで、絶縁部材16の変位が外枠部20で拘束される。絶縁部材16の上面及び下面が、外部端子12の折り曲げ部24a,24bの曲げ部分及び外部端子の外枠部20に挟まれることで、外部端子12に対する絶縁部材16の相対的な位置が固定される。そのため、外部端子12が内部に配置された金型内に樹脂材料を供給して、外部端子12に固定された絶縁部材16を形成するインサート成形を用いることなく、外部端子12の折り曲げ部24a,24bを折り曲げるだけで、外部端子12に絶縁部材16を固定できる。以上より、図1に示すような多極コネクタ10が完成する。

以下で、多極コネクタ10と接続される相手方コネクタ50について図面を参照しながら説明する。なお、相手方コネクタ50の説明の際に用いられる方向は、多極コネクタ10を基準にしている。具体的には、多極コネクタ10を相手方コネクタ50に接続した際の、多極コネクタ10の上下方向、左右方向、及び前後方向と、相手方コネクタ50における上下方向、左右方向、及び前後方向とは一致する。
以下で、多極コネクタ10と接続される相手方コネクタ50について図面を参照しながら説明する。なお、相手方コネクタ50の説明の際に用いられる方向は、多極コネクタ10を基準にしている。具体的には、多極コネクタ10を相手方コネクタ50に接続した際の、多極コネクタ10の上下方向、左右方向、及び前後方向と、相手方コネクタ50における上下方向、左右方向、及び前後方向とは一致する。
相手方コネクタ50も、多極コネクタ10と同様に、配線を含むフレキシブル基板、プリント基板等の回路基板に実装され、図12に示すように、外部端子52、内部端子64a~64c及び絶縁部材66を備えている。
外部端子52は、接地電位に接続される導体であり、リン青銅等の一枚の金属板が折り曲げられることで作製されている。また、外部端子52は、回路基板等に固定される底面部54と、多極コネクタ10と接続される内枠部56とに分けることができる。
底面部54は、水平方向に平行な平板状を成し、上下方向から相手方コネクタ50を見ると、左右方向を長辺とする長方形状を成している。ただし、底面部54における後ろ側の長辺の中央付近は切り抜かれている。この切り抜かれている部分E3は、後述する内枠部56の下端まで達し、そこから、内部端子64a~64cが引き出されている。
内枠部56は、底面部54における水平方向の略中央の上面に設けられている。また、内枠部56は、上下方向に延在する中心軸の周囲を周回する帯状の導体である。さらに、内枠部56の上下方向から相手方コネクタ50を見ると、内枠部56は、長方形に似た環状を成している。そして、内枠部56が成す長方形の各角部分であって上下方向の略中央部分には、水平方向に延在する凹部Q1~Q4が設けられている。なお、底面部54が成す長方形の長辺と、内枠部56が成す長方形の長辺とは平行である。
内部端子64a~64cはそれぞれ、信号電位又は接地電位に接続される導体である。本実施例では、左右方向の両端に位置する内部端子64a,64cは信号が印加される信号端子である。また、内部端子64bは接地電位が接続される接地端子である。従って、内部端子64a~64cでは、信号端子と接地端子とが交互に配置されている。また、内部端子64a~64cは、1本の棒状の導体が折り曲げ加工されることにより作製されており、例えば、リン青銅等の銅系材料により作製されている。内部端子64a~64cは、接触部70a~70c及び接続部72a~72cを含んでいる。
接触部70a~70cは、外部端子52の内枠部56の内側に設けられている。また、接触部70a~70cは、左方向または右方向から相手方コネクタ50を見たときに、下側に向かって開口する開口部を有するU字型を成している。
接続部72a~72cはそれぞれ、接触部70a~70cの後ろ側の端部に接続されており、そこからさらに後ろ側に向かって延在している。これにより、内部端子64a~64cは、外部端子52の切り抜かれている部分E3から、外部端子52の後方に向かって伸びている。
絶縁部材66は、外部端子52に対してインサート成形等により設けられる絶縁性の部材であり、外部端子52及び内部端子64a~64cを絶縁するとともに、内部端子64a~64cを保持する役割を担っている。また、絶縁部材66は、内部端子64a~64cの下面に沿うような形状を成している。なお、絶縁部材66の材料は、液晶ポリマー等である。
(多極コネクタの相手方コネクタへの取り付け 図13乃至図16参照)
多極コネクタ10を相手方コネクタ50に接続する際には、図13に示すように、多極コネクタ10の下面が相手方コネクタ50の上面と対向するように、接続方向に多極コネクタ10を相手方コネクタ50に押し当てる。これにより、図14に示すようなコネクタセットが完成する。このとき、図15に示すように、多極コネクタ10の外枠部20の内周面が、相手方コネクタ50の内枠部56の外周面と接触する。これに伴って、多極コネクタ10の凸部P1~P4が、相手方コネクタ50の凹部Q1~Q4とかみ合うことで、多極コネクタ10が相手方コネクタ50に固定される。さらに、図16に示すように、多極コネクタ10の内部端子14a~14cの接触部30a~30cが有する開口部に、相手方コネクタ50の内部端子64a~64cの接触部70a~70cが入り込む。これにより、多極コネクタ10と相手方コネクタ50との間での信号の伝送が可能となる。
多極コネクタ10を相手方コネクタ50に接続する際には、図13に示すように、多極コネクタ10の下面が相手方コネクタ50の上面と対向するように、接続方向に多極コネクタ10を相手方コネクタ50に押し当てる。これにより、図14に示すようなコネクタセットが完成する。このとき、図15に示すように、多極コネクタ10の外枠部20の内周面が、相手方コネクタ50の内枠部56の外周面と接触する。これに伴って、多極コネクタ10の凸部P1~P4が、相手方コネクタ50の凹部Q1~Q4とかみ合うことで、多極コネクタ10が相手方コネクタ50に固定される。さらに、図16に示すように、多極コネクタ10の内部端子14a~14cの接触部30a~30cが有する開口部に、相手方コネクタ50の内部端子64a~64cの接触部70a~70cが入り込む。これにより、多極コネクタ10と相手方コネクタ50との間での信号の伝送が可能となる。
(効果)
多極コネクタ10では、絶縁部材16の下面が外部端子12の外枠部20に接するように載置され、上面が該外部端子12の折り曲げ部24a,24bにより外枠部20に向かって押えつけられる。これにより、該絶縁部材16は該外部端子に固定されている。このような構造は、従来の多極コネクタと比較して簡素な構造であり、その組み立てのために、絶縁部材16や外部端子12の固定部分に対して高い位置精度を必要としない。
多極コネクタ10では、絶縁部材16の下面が外部端子12の外枠部20に接するように載置され、上面が該外部端子12の折り曲げ部24a,24bにより外枠部20に向かって押えつけられる。これにより、該絶縁部材16は該外部端子に固定されている。このような構造は、従来の多極コネクタと比較して簡素な構造であり、その組み立てのために、絶縁部材16や外部端子12の固定部分に対して高い位置精度を必要としない。
また、多極コネクタ10では、前述のとおり、絶縁部材16の上面が該外部端子12の折り曲げ部24a,24bにより外枠部20に向かって押えつけられる。これは折り曲げ部24a,24bが多極コネクタ10における基板側、つまり、多極コネクタ10を相手方コネクタ50に接続する際の接触面に対して反対側の面に設けられていることを意味する。従って、多極コネクタ10と相手方コネクタ50とを接続する際に、折り曲げ部24a,24bが相手方コネクタ50と干渉することはないため、相手方コネクタ50の形状を折り曲げ部24a,24bに対応させる必要がない。すなわち、折り曲げ部24a,24bを、多極コネクタ10を相手方コネクタ50に接続する際の接触面に対して反対側の面に設けることで、相手方コネクタ50の形状に対して自由度を与えることができる。
さらに、折り曲げ部24a,24bが多極コネクタ10における基板側にあるため、折り曲げ部24a,24bを、多極コネクタ10を回路基板にはんだ付けする部分として利用することができる。結果として、接続部26a~26cだけをはんだ付けする部分として利用する場合と比較して、より強力に多極コネクタ10を回路基板に固定することができる。
ところで、図10に示すように、絶縁部材16には、該絶縁部材16を外部端子12の外枠部20に載置した際に外部端子12の折り曲げ部24a,24bが嵌まる凹部E1,E2が設けられている。このとき、多極コネクタ10を上方向から見ると、絶縁部材16は外枠部20の外側にはみ出している。このように絶縁部材16が外枠部20の外側にはみ出すように設けられることで、外枠部20の内周側は絶縁部材16に覆われる。そして、外枠部20の内周側が絶縁部材16に覆われることで、多極コネクタ10をエアーで吸着させてピックアップする際に、多極コネクタ10をピックアップしやすくなる。具体的には、多極コネクタ10をピックアップして搬送する際には、上下方向から外部端子12にピックアップ装置のアームの先端を押し当てて吸着し、多極コネクタ10を搬送する。このとき、上下方向から見て外枠部20の内周側に隙間があると、ピックアップ装置が吸引を開始しても該隙間から空気が漏れてしまうため、ピックアップ装置のアームの先端に多極コネクタ10を吸着することが難しくなる。しかし、多極コネクタ10では外枠部20の内周側は絶縁部材16に覆われているため、ピックアップ装置による吸引の際に、空気漏れが発生しにくくなる。その結果、ピックアップ装置のアームの先端に多極コネクタ10を吸着することが可能となり、多極コネクタ10をピックアップしやすくなる。
また、多極コネクタ10の外枠部20を上方向から見ると、外枠部20は、一部が切り抜かれた環状を成している。このように一部が切り抜かれていることで、多極コネクタ10を相手方コネクタ50に接続する際、外枠部20が水平方向に開きやすくなる。従って、多極コネクタ10を相手方コネクタ50に上下方向とずれた方向から押し当てた場合でも、外枠部20が水平方向に開くため、多極コネクタ10を相手方コネクタ50にしっかりと押し込むことができる。
さらに、多極コネクタ10の内部端子14a~14cにおける接続部32a~32cの上側に向かって伸びている部分の太さは、内部端子14a~14cにおける他の部分よりも太い。ここで、内部端子14a~14cにおける他の部分よりも太い部分は、内部端子14a~14cをそれぞれ対応する絶縁部材16の溝G1~G3に挿入した際に、溝G1~G3に対して圧入された状態となる。しかし、内部端子14a~14cにおける他の部分と溝G1~G3との間にはクリアランスが発生する。このクリアランスにより、内部端子14a~14cはある程度動くことが可能になるため、多極コネクタ10と相手方コネクタ50との接続の際の応力が緩和でき、内部端子14a~14cの損傷を抑制することができる。
(他の実施例)
本発明に係る多極コネクタは前記実施例に限定するものではなく、その要旨の範囲内で種々に変更することができる。例えば、各部材の材料、大きさ、具体的な形状等は任意である。また、内部端子の数は3つに限らず2つや4つ以上であってもよい。

以上のように、本発明は、多極コネクタに有用であり、特に、構成部品の固定部分に高い位置精度を必要とせずに、該構成部品を簡単に組み立てることができるとなる点で優れている。

Claims (6)
- 第1の回路基板と第2の回路基板とを電気的に接続する際に用いられる多極コネクタであって、
前記第1の回路基板に固定される外部端子と、
一方側の面が前記外部端子の外枠部に接するように載置され、他方側の面が該外部端子の折り曲げ部により該外枠部に向かって押えつけられることで該外部端子に固定される絶縁部材と、
前記絶縁部材に設けられた溝に嵌められ、その一部が該絶縁部材から露出している内部端子と、
を備え、
前記折り曲げ部は、前記外枠部から伸びる部分であって前記他方側の面に向かって折り曲げられた部分であること、
を特徴とする多極コネクタ。 - 前記他方側の面は、前記第1の回路基板と前記第2の回路基板とが接続された際に、該第1の回路基板側に位置すること、
を特徴とする請求項1に記載の多極コネクタ。 - 前記外枠部は、前記第1の回路基板と前記第2の回路基板とが接続された際にそれらが並ぶ方向である接続方向から前記外枠部を見たとき、前記内部端子の周囲を取り囲む環状を成していること、
を特徴とする請求項1又は請求項2のいずれかに記載の多極コネクタ。 - 前記絶縁部材の少なくとも一部は、前記接続方向から前記絶縁部材を見たとき、前記外枠部よりも外側にはみ出していること、
を特徴とする請求項3に記載の多極コネクタ。 - 前記外枠部は、前記接続方向から前記外枠部を見たとき、一部が切り欠かれた形状を成していること、
を特徴とする請求項3又は請求項4のいずれかに記載の多極コネクタ。 - 前記内部端子のうち、前記溝に嵌まる一部が他の部分よりも太いこと、
を特徴とする請求項1乃至請求項5のいずれかに記載の多極コネクタ。
