  • Semiconductor laser 10 is an element that emits laser light when current is injected. In general, since a semiconductor laser is small and inexpensive, it is suitable as a light source for the optical sensor system 1 of the present invention. As shown in FIG. 1, the semiconductor laser 10 includes a front surface 20 (second light emitting surface) and a rear surface 21 (first light emitting surface). Further, an environmental parameter (humidity) is calculated from the amplitude of the electric signal received from the photodiode 40 (intensity of the rear surface outgoing light 31). • the control arithmetic device 60 causes the semiconductor laser 10 to emit light by injecting a constant current (ACC) into the semiconductor laser 10. After the light emission intensity of the semiconductor laser 10 is stabilized, the intensity of the rear surface outgoing light 31 is evaluated based on the electric signal received from the photodiode 40. The control arithmetic unit 60 turns off the semiconductor laser 10 immediately after evaluating the intensity of the rear surface outgoing light 31. Then, the humidity is calculated from the obtained evaluation value based on the relationship between the humidity and the light intensity (for example, experimental data shown in FIG. 2) stored in advance in a storage device (not shown).

As the refractive index of the front surface 20 and the rear surface 21 is changed, the transmittance and the reflectance of each surface are changed.
  • the front surface 20 is designed to have a high transmittance (about 94%). In addition, the manufacturing cost of the semiconductor laser 10 provided with the rear surface 21 having such a high reflectance also increases. Therefore, it is sufficient that the rear surface 21 has a reflectance of 85% or more from the viewpoint of the ease of designing the rear surface 21 and the low cost of the semiconductor laser 10.
