Abstract
Description
前記粗大粒子は、塗装や印刷時には均一な塗膜面の形成を阻害し、一方インクジェット記録用水性インクのようにインクをノズルから吐出し印字する方法においては、インクジェットヘッドのノズル目詰まりを引き起こす。特に近年のインクジェットプリンタの高解像度化に伴いインクジェットヘッドのノズルの高密度化及び液滴の微細化、即ちインクを吐出するノズル径の微細化、高集積化が進んでいる(例えば特許文献2参照)。ノズル径の微細化が進むと許容できる異物の大きさも小さくなるため、ノズルの目詰まりが増加し、即ち従来のインクジェットプリンタに適用できていたインクが、新たに開発された高解像度のインクジェットヘッドを搭載したプリンタには使用できないという問題が生じる。即ち粗大粒子の低減は高解像度のインクジェットプリンタに適用させるために不可欠な課題である。
しかしながら特許文献3に記載の方法でも粗大粒子が発生する場合があった。また特許文献3には、粗大粒子の絶対数を低減させることについては何ら言及されていない。
本発明の顔料分散剤であるブロックポリマーPとは、疎水性であるポリマーブロックAと親水性であるポリマーブロックBとからなり数平均分子量が1000~4000の範囲にあるポリマ―である。
「疎水性であるポリマーブロックA」は、例えば鎖状や環状のアルキル基や芳香族基等の非極性基を有するポリマーブロックであり、「親水性であるポリマーブロックB」は、例えばアニオン性基やカチオン性基等の極性基を有するポリマーブロックである。
ポリマーブロックAは疎水性であるならば、特に限定されずホモポリマーやコポリマーであってよい。同様にポリマーブロックBも、親水性であるならば特に限定されずホモポリマーやコポリマーであってよい。例えば、ポリマーブロックAは芳香環または複素環を有する疎水性のポリマーブロックであり、前記ポリマーブロックBは塩基性化合物により中和されたアニオン性基を有する親水性のポリマーブロックであることが好ましい。
ゲル・パーミエーション・クロマトグラフィー(GPC)法により、下記の条件で測定した。

このような理由から、リビングアニオン重合法で前記ブロックポリマーPを得る場合、前記ポリマーブロックBは、脱保護をすることによりアニオン性基に再生可能な保護基を有する(メタ)アクリレートを含むモノマーを用いることが好ましい。該モノマーを使用することで、重合時には前述の重合の阻害を防止できる。また保護基により保護されたアニオン性基は、ブロックポリマーPを得た後に脱保護することにより、アニオン性基に再生することが可能である。
また、前記ポリマーブロックAと前記ポリマーブロックBとは、溶解度パラメーターに数値差があることが好ましい。溶解度パラメーターの関係は、(ポリマーブロックAの溶解度パラメーター)/(ポリマーブロックBの溶解度パラメーター)が0.29~0.73の範囲であることが好ましい。
ここで、溶解度パラメーター(Sp値)とは、ポリマーを構成するモノマー単位(構成単位)のSp値(Sp(Ui))にモル数を乗じた値である。
本発明においては、ポリマーブロックAを構成するモノマー単位、例えば、メチル基、エチル基、イソブチル基やt-ブチル基等のブチル基等のアルキル基、シクロヘキシル基等のシクロアルキル基、フェニル基、ビフェニル基、ナフチル基等の芳香族基等の疎水性基を有するモノマーのSp値にモル数を乗じた値が「ポリマーブロックAの溶解度パラメーター」であり、ポリマーブロックBを構成するモノマー単位、例えば、カルボキシル基、スルホン酸基または燐酸基等のアニオン性基、アミノ基等のカチオン性基、ポリオキシアルキレン基やヒドロキシル基等のノニオン性基等の、親水性基を有するモノマーのSp値にモル数を乗じた値が「ポリマーブロックBの溶解度パラメーター」である。
表1に、「SP値 基礎・応用と計算方法、p67、Table13、山本秀樹、(株)情報機構(2005)」から算出された「代表的な単量体単位のSp値(Sp(Ui))」示す。
前記ブロックポリマーPは、前記ポリマーブロックAと前記ポリマーブロックBが、単結合または連結基により連結したブロックポリマーであり、線状ポリマーであることが好ましい。また前記ブロックポリマーP中、前記ポリマーブロックAと前記ポリマーブロックBとは各々1つずつ有することが好ましく、即ちブロックポリマーPは、「ポリマーブロックA-(単結合または連結基)-ポリマーブロックB」のような構造で示される。
中でも、前記ブロックポリマーPは(メタ)アクリレートモノマーを原料の1つとして用い製造されるビニルポリマーであることが好ましく、そのようなビニルポリマーの製造方法としては、リビングラジカル重合やリビングアニオン重合が好ましい。
リビングラジカル重合は、遷移金属触媒を用いた方法や、連鎖移動剤となるジチオカルボン酸エステル等の有機硫黄化合物であるRAFT剤(“RAFT”は可逆的付加開裂連鎖移動:Reversible Addition-fragmentation Chain transferを表す頭字語である)を使用する方法等が知られている。本発明においては、粗大粒子の原因となりうる不純物はできるだけ低減することが好ましく、この観点から、金属が残らないRAFT剤を使用する方法が好ましい。
使用するRAFT剤は、モノマーの反応性に応じて最適なものを選択することが好ましく、特に、アクリル酸エステルの重合にはジチオカルバメート類、ジチオカーボネート類が好適であり、メタクリル酸エステルの重合にはジチオエステル類が好適である。RAFT剤は、使用するモノマーの総量100質量部に対して0.01~10質量部使用するのが好ましく、0.05~3質量部がより好ましい。0.01質量部未満であると分子量分布が十分に狭くならず、10質量部を超えると平均分子量が低くなってしまう傾向にある。
リビングアニオン重合法は、反応開始剤にアルキル金属試薬、アルカリ金属やアルカリ土類金属を用いて重合性不飽和単量体をアニオン化(開始反応)し、かつ、成長末端が失活することによる停止反応と、活性点が系内の他の物質に移動する連鎖移動反応を進行しないようにすることにより、開始反応と成長反応のみが進行する反応をいう。即ち、成長末端が常に活性であり、系内に新たに重合性不飽和単量体を添加することでさらに成長反応が進行する反応である、開始反応速度を成長反応速度よりも十分に速くすることで、分子量の揃ったポリマー鎖が得られやすくなる。
有機リチウム開始剤としては、メチルリチウム、エチルリチウム、プロピルリチウム、ブチルリチウム(n-ブチルリチウム、sec-ブチルリチウム、iso-ブチルリチウム、tert-ブチルリチウムなど)、ペンチルリチウム、へキシルリチウム、メトキシメチルリチウム、エトシキメチルリチウムなどのアルキルリチウム;ベンジルリチウム、α-メチルスチリルリチウム、1,1-ジフェニル-3-メチルペンチルリチウム、1,1-ジフェニルヘキシルリチウム、フェニルエチルリチウムなどのフェニルアルキレンリチウム;ビニルリチウム、アリルリチウム、プロペニルリチウム、ブテニルリチウムなどのアルケニルリチウム;エチニルリチウム、ブチニルリチウム、ペンチニルリチウム、ヘキシニルリチウムなどのアルキニルリチウム;フェニルリチウム、ナフチルリチウムなどのアリールリチウム;2-チエニルリチウム、4-ピリジルリチウム、2-キノリルリチウムなどのヘテロ環リチウム;トリ(n-ブチル)マグネシウムリチウム、トリメチルマグネシウムリチウムなどのアルキルリチウムマグネシウム錯体などが挙げられる。
反応調整剤を使用した場合、本発明におけるブロックポリマーPは、前記ポリマーブロックAと前記ポリマーブロックBとが、反応調整剤で連結されたA-Bブロック状の分子構造を有するポリマーとなる。例えば下記のような構造となる。
有機リチウム開始剤は、有機基とリチウムとの結合が開裂し有機基側に活性末端が生じ、そこから重合が開始される。従って得られるポリマー末端には有機リチウム由来の有機基が結合している。本発明においては、該ポリマー末端に結合した有機リチウム由来の有機基を、有機リチウム開始剤残基と称する。例えばメチルリチウムを開始剤として使用したポリマーであれば、有機リチウム開始剤酸基はメチル基となり、ブチルリチウムを開始剤として使用したポリマーであれば、有機リチウム開始剤酸基はブチル基となる。
芳香環または複素環を有するモノマーのポリマーブロックとは、具体的には、スチレン系モノマー等の芳香族環を有するモノマーや、ビニルピリジン系モノマー等の複素環を有するモノマーを単独重合または共重合して得たホモポリマーまたはコポリマーのポリマーブロックである。
芳香環を有するモノマーとしては、スチレン、p-tert-ブチルジメチルシロキシスチレン、o-メチルスチレン、p-メチルスチレン、p-tert-ブチルスチレン、p-tert-ブトキシスチレン、m-tert-ブトキシスチレン、p-tert-(1-エトキシメチル)スチレン、m-クロロスチレン、p-クロロスチレン、p-フロロスチレン、α-メチルスチレン、p-メチル-α-メチルスチレン、などのスチレン系モノマーや、ビニルナフタレン、ビニルアントラセンなどがあげられる。
また複素環を有するモノマーとしては、2-ビニルピリジン、4-ビニルピリジンなどのビニルピリジン系モノマーがあげられる。
これらのモノマーは単独でまたは2種以上を混合して用いることができる。
前記A3におけるアニオン性基は、例えば、カルボキシル基、スルホン酸基または燐酸基等があげられる。中でもカルボキシル基がその調製やモノマー品種の豊富さ入手し易さから好ましい。また2つのカルボキシル基が分子内または分子間において脱水縮合した酸無水基となっていてもよい。
エステル結合の加水分解反応は、酸性条件下でも塩基性条件下でも進行するが、エステル結合を有する基によって条件がやや異なる。例えばエステル結合を有する基がメトキシカルボニル基等の第1級アルコキシカルボニル基又はイソプロポキシカルボニル基等の第2級アルコキシカルボニル基の場合は、塩基性条件下で加水分解を行うことでカルボキシル基を得ることができる。この際、塩基性条件下とする塩基性化合物としては、例えば、水酸化ナトリウム、水酸化カリウム等の金属水酸化物などが挙げられる。
前述の通り、リビングアニオン重合法においては、(メタ)アクリレートモノマーを求核性の強いスチレン系ポリマーの活性末端に直接重合しようとした場合、カルボニル炭素への求核攻撃により、ポリマー化できない場合がある。このため、前記A1-A2に(メタ)アクリレートモノマーの重合を行う際には反応調整剤を使用し、求核性を調整した後、(メタ)アクリレートモノマーを重合することが行われる。一般式(1)におけるBは該反応調整剤に由来する基である。反応調整剤としては、具体的にはジフェニルエチレンやα-メチルスチレン、p-メチル-α-メチルスチレン等があげられる。
このように、リビングアニオン重合法によって得たブロックポリマーPは、前記ポリマーブロックAの一端と前記ポリマーブロックBの一端とが反応調整剤に由来する結合基を介して連結したA-Bブロック状の分子構造を有するブロックポリマーとなる。
また、ブロックポリマーPにおいて、ポリマーブロックAとポリマーブロックBは、明確に分離されている方が、得られる水性顔料分散体の安定性において有利である。ポリマーブロックAとポリマーブロックBのモル比A:Bは、100:10~100:500の範囲が好ましい。Bの比率がAの100に対して10に満たない場合、顔料の分散安定性やインクジェット吐出時の吐出安定性に劣る傾向にある。一方Bの比率がAの100に対して500を超えると、ポリマーの親水性が高くなりすぎ、記録媒体が紙等の場合であると中へ浸透しやすくなり、発色性が低下する。比率は、中でも、A:B=100:10~100:450であることが好ましい。
前記ポリマーブロックAとポリマーブロックBのモル比A:Bを、ポリマーブロックAを構成する芳香環または複素環を有するモル数と、Bを構成するアニオン性基のモル数のモル比で表した場合は100:7.5~100:400が好ましい。
また、ブロックポリマーPの酸価は40~400mgKOH/gが好ましく、より好ましくは40~300mgKOH/gであり、最も好ましく40~190mgKOH/gである。酸価が40mgKOH/gを満たない場合、顔料の分散安定性、インクジェット吐出時の吐出安定性が充分ではない可能性がある。一方酸価が400mgKOH/gを超える場合、ポリマーの親水性が高まり、記録媒体中へ浸透しやすくなるため発色性が低下する。また酸価が190mgKOH/gを超える場合、場合によっては得られるインクの耐水性に影響が生じる場合がある。
前記ブロックポリマーPは、前記アニオン性基の塩基性化合物による中和率を100%にしたときに水中で、微粒子を形成する。
(1)ポリマーの酸価を予め、JIS試験方法K 0070-1992に基づく酸価測定方法により測定する。具体的には、テトラヒドロフラン(以下THFと称する場合がある)溶媒にポリマー0.5gを溶解させ、フェノールフタレインを指示薬として、0.1M水酸化カリウムアルコール溶液で滴定し酸価を求める。
(2)水50mlに対して、ポリマーを1g添加後、得られた酸価を100%中和するだけの0.1mol/L水酸化カリウム水溶液を加え、100%中和した。このときの式は以下の通りである。
前記ブロックポリマーPは、前記アニオン性基の塩基性化合物による中和率を100%にしたときに水中で形成する微粒子がシンクロトロン放射光を用いた小角もしくは超小角X線散乱による散乱プロファイルの散乱ベクトルqの大きさ0.1~1nm-1の範囲内に少なくとも1つの極小値を有することが特徴である。
この時ブロックポリマーPは、水中でコアシェル型ポリマー粒子となっている。
(1)粉末状のブロックポリマーPを0.3gにジエチレングリコール0.43gを加え、80℃に加熱撹拌しながら、前述のJIS試験方法K 0070-1992に基づく酸価測定方法により予め求めた酸価を100%中和するだけの0.1mol/L水酸化カリウム水溶液、及び蒸留水を1.5g加えた。
(2)80℃に保ったまま撹拌を2時間行った。
(3)超音波洗浄器(出力100W)で15分間分散した後、コンディショニングミキサーで10分間撹拌した。
(4)さらに蒸留水を1.5g加えた。
以後、(2)と(3)とを5回繰り返した。
この後、ジエチレングリコール:水が0.43:3.0の比率の混合液で、固形分が0.5質量%となるように希釈し、測定試料とした。
工程(B)では、試料に適した理論モデルを仮定し、予測散乱プロファイルを作成する。
一般に、物質中にρ(r)の電子密度分布が存在した場合、散乱強度I(q)は下記式(2)のように表される。
即ち、シンクロトロン放射光を用いた小角もしくは超小角X線散乱による散乱プロファイルの散乱ベクトルqの大きさが0.1~1nm-1の範囲内に少なくとも1つの極小値を有するブロックポリマーPは、粒子径の粒度分布が狭く且つ完全なコアシェル構造を形成していると推定される。
このようなポリマーは、疎媒性である顔料表面と親媒性である部分とが明確な界面を形成することで、安定に存在できるため、良好な顔料分散剤として機能すると推定している。
なお、前記コアシェル型ポリマー粒子の粒径は、4~30nmの範囲である。該粒径は、前記工程(D)までを行った結果得られた値である。
本発明の水性顔料分散体は、前記ポリマーブロックPを顔料分散剤とし、顔料、塩基性化合物、及び水性媒体を含有する。
本発明で使用する顔料は、特に限定はなく、水性インクジェット記録用水性インクにおいて通常使用される有機顔料あるいは無機顔料を使用することができる。また未処理顔料、処理顔料のいずれでも適用することができる。
また、マゼンタインクに使用される顔料の具体例としては、C.I.ピグメントレッド5、7、12、48(Ca)、48(Mn)、57(Ca)、57:1、112、122、123、146、168、176、184、185、202、209、269等、C.I.ピグメントバイオレット19等が挙げられる。
塩基性化合物は、前記コアシェル型ポリマー粒子で述べた塩基性化合物を使用することができる。
本発明で使用する水性媒体は、水、または水と水溶性有機溶剤との混合物である。本発明で使用する水は顔料の分散媒となる。水としては、イオン交換水、限外濾過水、逆浸透水、蒸留水等の純水、または超純水を用いることができる。
水は単独で使用してもよいし、水と水溶性溶剤からなる混合溶媒でもよい。例えば、アセトン、メチルエチルケトン、メチルブチルケトン、メチルイソブチルケトン、等のケトン類;メタノール、エタノール、2-プロパノール、2-メチル-1-プロパノール、1-ブタノール、2-メトキシエタノール、等のアルコール類;テトラヒドロフラン、1,4-ジオキサン、1,2-ジメトキシエタン、等のエーテル類;ジメチルホルムアミド、N-メチルピロリドン、エチレングリコール、ジエチレングリコール、トリエチレングリコール、テトラエチレングリコール、プロピレングリコール、ポリエチレングリコール、ポリプロピレングリコールなどのグリコール類;ブタンジオール、ペンタンジオール、ヘキサンジオール、およびこれらと同族のジオールなどのジオール類;ラウリン酸プロピレングリコールなどのグリコールエステル;ジエチレングリコールモノエチル、ジエチレングリコールモノブチル、ジエチレングリコールモノヘキシルの各エーテル、プロピレングリコールエーテル、ジプロピレングリコールエーテル、およびトリエチレングリコールエーテルを含むセロソルブなどのグリコールエーテル類;メタノール、エタノール、イソプロピルアルコール、1-プロパノール、2-プロパノール、1-ブタノール、2-ブタノール、ブチルアルコール、ペンチルアルコール、およびこれらと同族のアルコールなどのアルコール類;あるいは、スルホラン;γ-ブチロラクトンなどのラクトン類;N-(2-ヒドロキシエチル)ピロリドンなどのラクタム類;グリセリンおよびその誘導体など、水溶性有機溶剤として知られる他の各種の溶剤などを挙げることができる。これらの水溶性有機溶剤は1種または2種以上混合して用いることができる。
本発明において、水性顔料分散体とは、インク化する前の顔料が分散媒である水に高濃度に分散された水性顔料分散体を指す。
水性顔料分散体の顔料濃度は通常10~50質量%となるように調整してある。これを使用してインク化する際は、所望するインク用途や物性に応じて、適宜水、あるいは添加剤を添加して、顔料濃度を0.1~20質量%となるように希釈するのみで、インクを得ることができる。
例えば前記ブロックポリマーPは、顔料100質量部に対し、5~200質量部配合することが好ましく、より好ましくは5~100質量部である。
また水溶性有機溶剤は、顔料100質量部に対し、20~200質量部配合することが好ましく、より好ましくは30~200質量部である。
また、塩基性化合物は、前述の通り、前記ブロックポリマーPの中和率が20%~200%になるように使用することが好ましく、中和率が80%~150%となるように使用することがなお好ましい。このときの中和率は、前述の通り次の式で算出される。
このとき塩基性化合物は100%純正物を添加してもよいが、発熱等の恐れがあることから水溶液を使用することが好ましい。
また、このとき使用する水溶性有機溶剤は、後工程で脱溶剤等の必要がないことから高沸点の水溶性有機溶剤が好ましく、またインクジェット記録用水性インクに調整した際にインク特性に支障をきたさないような水溶性有機溶剤が好ましい。このような水溶性有機溶剤としては、例えば、前述の高沸点の水溶性有機溶剤が好ましい。
また、本発明の効果を損なわない範囲において若干量の水を含むことも可能であるが、初期の顔料分散における大量の水の存在は、前記ブロックポリマーPの顔料分散効率が低下する可能性があることや、ブロックポリマーPのみの塊を形成する可能性があることから、少量にとどめておくことが好ましい。
混練分散法のメリットである強い剪断力を混合物に与えるためには、該混合物の固形分比率が高い状態で混練するほうが好ましく、より高い剪断力を該混合物に加えることができる。
また、得られる水性顔料分散体の顔料濃度を高濃度とするために、前記混合物中の顔料量はなるべく多くすることが好ましい。例えば、前記混合物全量に対して35質量%以上とすることが好ましく、40質量%以上であることがなお好ましい。
また、顔料とブロックポリマーPとの含有比率は、特に限定はないが、通常は質量比で10/0.5~10/20の範囲で行うことが多く、より好ましくは10/0.5~10/10である。
前記工程1により得られた分散物に水を混合すること(以後工程(2)と称す)によって顔料とブロックポリマーPとを含む水性顔料分散体が得られる。
水中に前記分散物を加えても良いが、逆に前記分散物中に水性媒体を加えるほうが、均一な粒子径の水性顔料分散体が得られる点で好ましい。
水を混合する方法は特に限定はないが、一度に水を添加して混合することは、時として均一な水性顔料分散体が得られない可能性があるので、少量ずつに分けて添加し混合することが好ましい。また通常は分散機を使用して分散させる。
工程2で使用する分散機は、公知のものを用いることができ、例えば、メディアを用いたものではペイントシェーカー、ボールミル、アトライター、バスケットミル、サンドミル、サンドグラインダー、ダイノーミル、ディスパーマット、SCミル、スパイクミル、アジテーターミルなどを挙げられる。またメディアを用いないものとしては、超音波ホモジナイザー、ナノマイザー、デゾルバー、ディスパー、高速インペラー分散機などがあげられる。なお分散後に必要に応じて水溶性溶剤で濃度調整を行っても良い。
なお、用いる分散機などの種類によっては、分散機で水分散を行う前に、必要に応じて前記分散物に更に水溶性有機溶剤を添加し、混合、希釈して、前記分散機で処理するのに適した粘度に調整すると好ましい(以下、この粘度調整されたものを粘度調整物と呼ぶ場合がある)。例えばサンドミルを用いる時には、固形分濃度で10~40質量%となる様に希釈し、数十~数百センチポイズの粘度に調整した後にサンドミルを駆動させて分散を行うと好ましい。
また工程2の水分散化を行った後、必要に応じて遠心分離や濾過工程をいれてもよい。
本願の工程(1)と工程(2)とをこの順に経ることで、粗大粒子が低減された水性顔料分散体を得ることができる。
またこのようにして得られた水性顔料分散体は、顔料がブロックポリマーPに内包あるいは一部吸着して安定化していると推定される。
本発明の水性顔料分散体は、所望の濃度に希釈して、自動車や建材用の塗料分野や、オフセットインキ、グラビアインキ、フレキソインキ、シルクスクリーンインキ等の印刷インキ分野、あるいはインクジェット記録用水性インク分野等様々な用途に使用することができる。なかでも、粗大粒子が低減されていることから、インクジェット記録用水性インクとして特に好ましく使用できる。
本発明の水性顔料分散体をインクジェット記録用水性インクに適用する場合は、更に水、バインダー樹脂等を加え、所望の物性を得るために、必要に応じて湿潤剤(乾燥抑止剤)、浸透剤、あるいはその他の添加剤を添加して調製する。
インクの調整後に、遠心分離あるいは濾過処理工程を加えてもよい。
前記湿潤剤は、インクの乾燥防止を目的として添加する。乾燥防止を目的とする湿潤剤のインク中の含有量は3~50質量%であることが好ましい。
本発明で使用する湿潤剤としては特に限定はないが、水との混和性がありインクジェットプリンターのヘッドの目詰まり防止効果が得られるものが好ましい。例えば;グリセリン、エチレングリコール、ジエチレングリコール、トリエチレングリコール、分子量2000以下のポリエチレングリコール、プロピレングリコール、ジプロピレングリコール、トリプロピレングリコール、1,3-プロピレングリコール、イソプロピレングリコール、イソブチレングリコール、1,4-ブタンジオール、1,3-ブタンジオール、1,5-ペンタンジオール、1,6-ヘキサンジオール、メソエリスリトール、ペンタエリスリトール、スルホラン;γ-ブチロラクトンなどのラクトン類;N-(2-ヒドロキシエチル)ピロリドンなどのラクタム類;グリセリンおよびその誘導体などが挙げられる。中でも、プロピレングリコール、1,3-ブタンジオールを含むことが安全性を有し、かつインク乾燥性、吐出性能に優れた効果が見られる。
前記浸透剤は、被記録媒体への浸透性改良や記録媒体上でのドット径調整を目的として添加する。
浸透剤としては、例えばエタノール、イソプロピルアルコール等の低級アルコール、エチレングリコールヘキシルエーテルやジエチレングリコールブチルエーテル等のアルキルアルコールのエチレンオキシド付加物やプロピレングリコールプロピルエーテル等のアルキルアルコールのプロピレンオキシド付加物等が挙げられる。
インク中の浸透剤の含有量は0.01~10質量%であることが好ましい。
前記界面活性剤は、表面張力等のインク特性を調整するために添加する。このために添加することのできる界面活性剤は特に限定されるものではなく、各種のアニオン性界面活性剤、ノニオン性界面活性剤、カチオン性界面活性剤、両性界面活性剤などが挙げられ、これらの中では、アニオン性界面活性剤、ノニオン性界面活性剤が好ましい。
なお、前記工程1で使用する水溶性有機溶剤には、例えば湿潤剤や浸透剤としての機能を果たすものがある。このような機能を有する水溶性有機溶剤を前記工程1で使用している場合は、その量を調整しながら加えることが好ましい。
インクジェット記録用水性インクの記録媒体としては特に限定はなく、複写機で一般的に使用されているコピー用紙(PPC紙)等の吸収性の記録媒体、インクの吸収層を有する記録媒体、インクの吸収性を有しない非吸水性の記録媒体、インクの吸水性の低い難吸収性の記録媒体などがありうる。本発明のインクジェット記録用水性インクは、特に吸収層を有する記録媒体、非吸水性の記録媒体、難吸収性の記録媒体に記録した際に、発色性が良好という特徴も有する。
前記プラスチックフィルムの膜厚は用途に応じて適宜変更されるが、例えば軟包装用途である場合は、柔軟性と耐久性、耐カール性を有しているものとして、膜厚が10μm~100μmであることが好ましい。より好ましくは10μm~30μmである。この具体例としては、東洋紡株式会社のパイレン(登録商標)などが挙げられる。
実施例における散乱プロファイルは、以下のように測定した。
エックス線散乱実験により散乱シグナルを得る工程(A)
測定装置:大型高輝度放射光施設:SPring-8内のフロンティアソフトマター開発産学連合体が所有するビームライン:BL03XU 第2ハッチ
測定モード:超小角X線散乱(USAXS)もしくは小角X線散乱(SAXS)
測定条件:波長0.1nm、カメラ長6m(USAXS)2m(SAXS)、ビームスポットサイズ 140μm×80μm、アテネーターなし、露光時間 30秒、2θ= 0.01~10°
解析ソフト:2次元データの画像化と1次元散乱プロファイル化をFit2D (European Synchrotron Radiation Facilityのホームページ[http://www.esrf.eu/computing/scientific/FIT2D/]より入手)
なお、測定試料は、ブロックポリマーPを、以下のように調整した。
(1)粉末状のブロックポリマーPを0.3gにジエチレングリコール0.43gを加え、80℃に加熱撹拌しながら、前述のJIS試験方法K 0070-1992に基づく酸価測定方法により予め求めた酸価を100%中和するだけの0.1mol/L水酸化カリウム水溶液、及び蒸留水を1.5g加えた。
(2)80℃に保ったまま撹拌を2時間行った。
(3)超音波洗浄器(出力100W)で15分間分散した後、コンディショニングミキサーで10分間撹拌した。
(4)さらに蒸留水を1.5g加えた。
以後、(2)と(3)とを5回繰り返した。
この後、ジエチレングリコール:水が0.43:3.0の比率の混合液で、固形分が0.5質量%となるように希釈し、測定試料とした。
重合開始剤としてn-ブチルリチウムと第一のモノマーとしてスチレンを図1におけるチューブリアクターP1及びP2とから、図1におけるT字型マイクロミキサーM1に導入し、リビングアニオン重合させ重合体を形成させた。
次に、得られた重合体を図1におけるチューブリアクターR1を通じて図1におけるT字型マイクロミキサーM2に移動させ、該重合体の成長末端を、図1におけるチューブリアクターP3から導入した反応調整剤(1,1-ジフェニルエチレン)によりトラップした。
次いで、第二のモノマーとしてメタクリル酸tert-ブチルエステルを図1に示すチューブリアクターP4からT字型マイクロミキサーM3に導入し、図1におけるチューブリアクターR2を通じて移動させた前記重合体と、連続的なリビングアニオン重合反応を行った。その後メタノールで反応をクエンチしてブロック共重合体(PA-1)を製造した。
重合開始剤/第一モノマー/反応調整剤/第二モノマー=1.0/13.5/1.0/7.5
以後、表等において、合成方法1の方法で得たブロックポリマーを「la-・・・」と称す。
攪拌子を入れた500mLのナス型シュレン中に、溶媒としてプロピレングリコールモノメチルエーテルアセテート(以下PGMEAと略す)を200g、スチレンを16.9g、RAFT剤として2-シアノプロパン-2-イルN-メチル-N- (ピリジン-4-イル)カルバモジチオアートを16mmol入れた後、フラスコ内の溶液中に200mL/分で1分間窒素を液中バブリングしながら吹き込んだ。次にこのフラスコを80℃の湯浴上に置き、フラスコ内温を80℃まで昇温した。 80℃に達してから10分後、PGMEA20gと重合開始剤2,2’-アゾビスイソブチロニトリル(AIBN)4mmolからなる溶液を一気にフラスコ内に供給した後、温度を保持しながら5時間撹拌し、反応溶液を室温まで冷却して反応を停止した。次いで、このフラスコ中にスチレン5.61g、アクリル酸8.1gを吹き込み、再び80℃の湯浴上に置き、フラスコ内温を80℃まで昇温した。 80℃に達してから10分後、PGMEA20gと重合開始剤AIBN4mmolからなる溶液を一気にフラスコ内に供給した後、温度を保持しながら5時間撹拌した。次いで、PGMEA20gとAIBN8mmolからなる溶液を一気にフラスコ内に供給し、温度を保持しながら2時間攪拌し、反応溶液を室温まで冷却して反応を停止し、ブロックポリマー(lr-1)を得た。
なお、得られたブロックポリマー(lr-1)の数平均分子量等は後述の表に示した。
以後、表等において、合成方法2の方法で得たブロックポリマーを「LR-・・・」と称す。
撹拌装置、滴下装置、還流装置を有する反応容器にメチルエチルケトン100部を仕込み、撹拌しながら反応容器内を窒素置換した。反応容器内を窒素雰囲気に保ちながら加温しメチルエチルケトンの還流状態とした後、滴下装置からSt74部、アクリル酸11部、メタクリル酸15部および重合開始剤(和光純薬工業社製/「V-75」)8部の混合液を2時間かけて滴下した。なお滴下の途中より反応系の温度を80℃に保った。
滴下終了後、同温度でさらに25時間反応を続けた。なお、反応の途中において、原料の消費状況を確認しながら、適宜、重合開始剤を追加した。反応終了後、メチルエチルケトンを減圧下で留去し、得られた固体を粉砕して、ポリマー(rand-1)の粉体を得た。なお、得られたポリマー(rand-1)の数平均分子量等は後述の表に示した。
合成方法1~3のいずれかの合成方法で、モノマー種類・導入量等を調節してブロックポリマーあるいはランダムポリマーを製造した。組成等は後述の表に示した。
製造例1~10で得たブロックポリマーあるいはランダムポリマーを、前記散乱プロファイルの測定方法に従い、散乱プロファイルを得た。その結果を表3及び図に示す。
この結果、製造例1、製造例2、製造例4、製造例8、製造例9で得たブロックポリマーは、極小値が存在し、コアシェア型ポリマー粒子であることが確認された。
以下の製造例のいずれかの方法で、水性顔料分散体を得た。なお使用する原料の使用量は、後述の表中に記載した。
実施例1の組成を例として説明する。
フタロシアニン系顔料ファストゲンブルーPigment(DIC社製:C.I.ピグメント15:3)120部、ポリマー(P-1)36部を0.2Lの常圧ニーダー(株式会社アドバンス製)に仕込み、ジャケット温度を80℃(羽回転数:40rpm)で混合した。その後、ジエチレングリコール52部、34%水酸化カリウム水溶液15部を添加し、1時間混練を行った。
続いて、容器内の混練物に、撹拌を継続しながらイオン交換水360部を徐々に加えた後、ジエチレングリコール68部、イオン交換水149部の混合液を加え混合した。
この水性顔料分散体の固形分濃度は20.2%、顔料濃度は15.0%であった。
前記得られた水性顔料分散体は、以下の項目を測定して評価を行った。
作成した水性顔料分散体を5000倍に希釈し、マイクロトラックUPA-150(日機装社製)で測定を行った。測定値は3度測定した平均値を取った。
作成した水性顔料分散体を2000倍に希釈し、アキュサイザー780APS(インターナショナル・ビジネス社製)にて測定を行った。粗大粒子数は希釈前の水性顔料分散液1ml当たりの粒子数に換算した。表中の粒子数には(×106個/ml)の単位を用いている。
なお本発明においては、粗大粒子数は80×106個/mlを超えたものを不合格とした。
結果は後述の表に示した。
一方、比較例1(la-2を使用)は、数平均分子量が4000を超え且つ極小値を示さないブロックポリマーを顔料分散剤として使用しているため粗大粒子数が80×106個/mlを超えてしまった。また、比較例2(la-3を使用)、比較例6(lr-2を使用)、比較例7(lr-3を使用)、比較例8(lr-4を使用)は、数平均分子量が4000を超えてしまうか、あるいは極小値を示さないブロックポリマーを顔料分散剤として使用しているため、粗大粒子数が80×106個/mlを超えてしまった。
比較例5(rand-1を使用)は、ランダムポリマーを顔料分散剤として使用しているため、粗大粒子数が80×106個/mlを超えてしまった。
作成した水性顔料分散体を、固形分濃度が5質量%となるようにイオン交換水で希釈したものを試料とした。普通紙に対してはNo.26バーコーターにより塗布した塗布面及び塗布裏面について、コート紙に対しては前記試料を5μL塗布し室温で自然乾燥させた塗布面及び塗布裏面について、測色計(Gretag Macbeth 社製 Spectro Eye)を使用し、a* b*を測定した。
なお裏抜け度は、クロマC*(彩度)により評価した。C*の定義はJIS Z8781-4に従い、式(C1)で表される。
結果を表5~6に示す。

Claims (4)
- 疎水性のポリマーブロックAとアニオン性基を有する親水性のポリマーブロックBとが連結したブロックポリマーPであって、当該ブロックポリマーPの数平均分子量が1000~4000の範囲であり、当該ブロックポリマーPに含まれるアニオン性基を塩基性化合物により100%中和し水分散化した時、形成される微粒子がシンクロトロン放射光を用いた小角もしくは超小角X線散乱による散乱プロファイルの散乱ベクトルqの大きさが0.1~1nm-1の範囲内に少なくとも1つの極小値を有するブロックポリマーPであることを特徴とする顔料分散剤。
- 前記ポリマーブロックAが芳香環または複素環を有する疎水性のポリマーブロックであり、前記ポリマーブロックBが一部または全てがアニオン性基を有するポリマーブロックである請求項1に記載の顔料分散剤。
- 請求項1または2に記載の顔料分散剤、顔料、塩基性化合物、及び水性媒体を含有することを特徴とする水性顔料分散体。
- 疎水性のポリマーブロックAと、アニオン性基を有する親水性のポリマーブロックBとが連結し数平均分子量が1000~4000の範囲のブロックポリマーPからなり、シンクロトロン放射光を用いた小角もしくは超小角X線散乱による散乱プロファイルの散乱ベクトルqの大きさが0.1~1nm-1の範囲内に少なくとも1つの極小値を有することを特徴とするコアシェル型ポリマー粒子。
