Abstract

 所定ガス成分の濃度をより正確に算出できるガス濃度検出装置を提供する。ガス濃度検出装置1は、ガスセンサ10と算出部11とを備える。ガスセンサ10は、ポンプセル3と、モニタセル4と、センサセル5とを有する。算出部11は、センサセル5に流れる電流であるセンサセル電流Isから、モニタセル4に流れる電流であるモニタセル電流Imを減算することにより、ガスg中の所定ガス成分の濃度を算出する。算出部11は、所定ガス成分の濃度を算出するときに、モニタセル電流Imの値を、センサセル電流Isのうち酸素濃度に起因する成分である酸素起因電流Isoの値に近づけるように、補正処理を行う。

Description

ガス濃度検出装置
 本発明は、自動車の排ガスに含まれるNOx等のガス成分の濃度を測定するガス濃度検出装置に関する。
 自動車の排ガス等に曝されるガスセンサと、このガスセンサの出力を用いて、上記排ガスに含まれるNOx等の濃度を算出する算出部と、を備えるガス濃度検出装置が知られている(下記特許文献1参照)。
 上記ガスセンサは、酸素イオン伝導性を有する固体電解質体と、該固体電解質体の両面に形成した複数の電極とを備える。この固体電解質体と電極によって、ポンプセルと、モニタセルと、センサセルとの3個のセルが形成されている。ポンプセルは、ガスの酸素濃度を低減するためのセルである。モニタセルは、ポンプセルによって酸素濃度を低減させたガスに、僅かに残留する酸素の濃度を検出するためのセルである。また、センサセルは、ポンプセルによって酸素濃度を低減させられたガスに含まれる酸素と所定ガス成分(NOx)との合計の濃度を検出するためのセルである。
 モニタセルには、上記ガスに残留する酸素の濃度に対応した量の電流(モニタセル電流Im)が流れる。また、センサセルにも電流(センサセル電流Is)が流れる。センサセルは、酸素と所定ガス成分とにそれぞれ活性を有するため、センサセル電流Isには、酸素濃度に起因する成分(酸素起因電流Iso)と、所定ガス成分の濃度に起因する成分(所定ガス起因電流Ix)とが含まれる。所定ガス成分の濃度を正確に算出するためには、センサセル電流Isから酸素起因電流Isoを除去し、所定ガス起因電流Ixの値を正確に算出する必要がある。
 しかしながら、通常、酸素起因電流Isoは直接測定できない。そのため上記ガス濃度検出装置では、酸素起因電流Isoの代わりにモニタセル電流Imを用いている。すなわち、モニタセル電流Imは、酸素起因電流Isoと同様に、酸素濃度と相関関係があるため、このモニタセル電流Imをセンサセル電流Is(=Iso+Ix)から減算し、所定ガス起因電流Ixの近似値を求めている。そして、得られた値を用いて、所定ガス成分の濃度を算出している。これらの演算は、上記算出部が行っている。

 しかしながら、上記ガス濃度検出装置は、所定ガス成分の濃度を正確に測定できないことがある。すなわち、モニタセルを構成する電極は、酸素分子のみを還元する金属、例えばPt-Au合金からなり、センサセルを構成する電極は、酸素分子と所定ガス成分を両方とも還元する金属、例えばPt-Rh合金からなる。このように、モニタセルとセンサセルは、電極の材料が互いに異なるため、酸素濃度に対する感度が互いに異なる。また、各電極の面積には製造ばらつきがある。そのため、モニタセル電流Imと酸素起因電流Isoとは、正確に一致していない場合が多い。したがって、上述のようにセンサセル電流Is(=Ix+Iso)からモニタセル電流Imを減算しても、所定ガス起因電流Ixを正確に算出できない。そのため、所定ガス成分の濃度を正確に求めることができない。
 本発明は、かかる背景に鑑みてなされたもので、所定ガス成分の濃度をより正確に算出できるガス濃度検出装置を提供しようとするものである。
 本発明の一態様は、ガスに曝されるガスセンサと、該ガスセンサの出力を用いて、上記ガスに含まれる所定ガス成分の濃度を算出する算出部とを備えるガス濃度検出装置であって、
 上記ガスセンサは、上記ガスが導入されるガス室と、基準ガスが導入される基準ガス室と、上記ガス室と上記基準ガス室との間に介在し酸素イオン伝導性を有する固体電解質体と、該固体電解質体の両面に設けられた複数の電極とを備え、
 上記固体電解質体と上記電極とにより、上記ガス室における上記ガスの酸素濃度を調整するポンプセルと、上記ガス中の酸素濃度に対応した量の電流が流れるモニタセルと、上記ガス中の酸素濃度に対応した量の電流と上記所定ガス成分の濃度に対応した量の電流との合計の電流が流れるセンサセルとを形成してあり、
 上記算出部は、上記モニタセルに流れる電流であるモニタセル電流Imの値を、上記センサセルに流れる電流であるセンサセル電流Isのうち酸素濃度に起因する成分である酸素起因電流Isoの値に近づけるように補正し、その補正値Im’を上記センサセル電流Isから減算することにより、上記センサセル電流Isのうち上記所定ガス成分の濃度に起因する成分である所定ガス起因電流Ixを求めて、上記ガス中の上記所定ガス成分の濃度を算出するよう構成されていることを特徴とするガス濃度検出装置にある。
 上記ガス濃度検出装置の算出部は、所定ガス成分の濃度を算出するときに、モニタセル電流Imの値を、上記酸素起因電流Isoの値に近づけるように補正する。
 そのため、所定ガス成分の濃度をより正確に算出することが可能になる。すなわち、上述したように、センサセル電流Isには、所定ガス成分の濃度に起因する成分である所定ガス起因電流Ixと、上記酸素起因電流Isoとが含まれる。上記補正処理を行うと、補正後のモニタセル電流Im’は、酸素起因電流Isoに近い値になる。そのため、補正後のモニタセル電流Im’をセンサセル電流Is(=Ix+Iso)から減算すれば、Is-Im’=(Ix+Iso)-Im’≒Ixとなり、正確な所定ガス起因電流Ixを算出することができる。そのため、所定ガス成分の濃度を正確に算出することが可能になる。
 以上のごとく、本発明によれば、所定ガス成分の濃度をより正確に算出できるガス濃度検出装置を提供することができる。

 上記ガス濃度検出装置は、例えば、自動車の排ガスに含まれるNOxの濃度を測定するためのNOx濃度検出装置とすることができる。
(実施例1)
 上記ガス濃度検出装置に係る実施例について、図1~図11を用いて説明する。図1~図4に示すごとく、本例のガス濃度検出装置1は、ガスセンサ10と、算出部11とを備える。ガスセンサ10は、その先端100がガスgに曝されている。算出部11は、ガスセンサ10の出力電流を用いて、ガスgに含まれる所定のガス成分の濃度を算出する。
 ガスセンサ10は、ガス室7と、基準ガス室12と、固体電解質体2と、複数の電極8とを備える。ガス室7には、ガスgが導入される。また、基準ガス室7には、大気等の基準ガスが導入される。固体電解質体2は、ガス室7と基準ガス室12との間に介在している。固体電解質体2は、酸素イオン伝導性を有する材料から構成されている。電極8は、固体電解質体2の両面に形成されている。
 図1~図3に示すごとく、固体電解質体2と電極8とにより、ポンプセル3と、モニタセル4と、センサセル5とが形成される。ポンプセル3は、ガス室7におけるガスg中の酸素濃度を調整するセルである。モニタセル4は、ガスg中の酸素濃度に対応した量の電流が流れるセルである。また、センサセル5は、ガスg中の酸素濃度に対応した量の電流と、所定ガス成分の濃度に対応した量の電流との、合計の電流が流れるセルである。
 モニタセル4にはモニタセル電流Imが流れ、センサセル5にはセンサセル電流Isが流れる。センサセル電流Isには、酸素濃度に起因する成分である酸素起因電流Iso(図6参照)と、所定ガス成分の濃度に起因する成分である所定ガス起因電流Ixとがある。算出部11は、モニタセル電流Imの値を、酸素起因電流Isoの値に近づけるように補正処理を行う。そして、その補正したモニタセル電流Im’の値をセンサセル電流Isから減算することにより、所定ガス起因電流Ixを求める。この所定ガス起因電流Ixの値を用いて、ガスg中の所定ガス成分の濃度を算出する。
 本例のガス濃度検出装置1は、自動車の排ガス等に含まれるNOx濃度を測定するための、NOx濃度検出装置である。すなわち、ガスgは自動車の排ガスであり、所定ガス成分はNOxである。ガスセンサ10全体は、図示しない筒状のケースに収容され、自動車の排気管に取り付けられている。ガスセンサ10の先端100は排気管内に差し込まれ、後端部は、基準ガスである大気に露出している。
 図1~図4に示すごとく、電極8には、固体電解質体2のガス室7側の主面21に形成されたポンプ電極8p及びモニタ電極8m及びセンサ電極8sと、固体電解質体2の基準ガス室12側の主面に形成された基準電極8bとがある。固体電解質体2と、ポンプ電極8pと、基準電極8bとによって、上記ポンプセル3が形成されている。また、固体電解質体2と、モニタ電極8mと、基準電極8bとによって、上記モニタセル4が形成されている。また、固体電解質体2と、センサ電極8sと、基準電極8bとによって、上記センサセル5が形成されている。
 ガスg中のNOx濃度を測定する方法について説明する。図1に示すごとく、ガスgは、拡散抵抗層13を通って、ガス室7に導入される。ガスgには酸素分子が含まれるため、ポンプセル3を使って、酸素分子を排出する。すなわち、基準電極8bとポンプ電極8pとの間に、基準電極8bが高電位となるように直流電圧を加える。このようにすると、ポンプ電極8pにおいて酸素分子が還元されて酸素イオンとなり、ポンピング作用により基準ガス室12へ排出される。ポンプセル3に加える直流電圧の大きさを調整することにより、ガス室7内の酸素濃度が制御される。
 酸素濃度が低減したガスgは、モニタセル4とセンサセル5へ導入される。このガスgには、ポンプセル3において排出しきれなかった酸素分子が含まれているため、この酸素分子の濃度をモニタセル4によって測定する。図3に示すごとく、モニタセル4では、基準電極8bとモニタ電極8mとの間に、基準電極8bが高電位となるように直流電圧を加える。このようにすると、ガスgに含まれる酸素分子が還元されて酸素イオンとなり、ポンピング作用により基準ガス室12へ排出される。モニタ電極8mは、後述するように、NOxの分解に不活性なPt-Auサーメット電極によって形成されているため、モニタセル4に流れる電流(モニタセル電流Im)は、ガスgに含まれる酸素分子の濃度のみに依存し、NOxの濃度には依存しない。
 また、センサセル5においても、基準電極8bとセンサ電極8sとの間に、基準電極8bが高電位となるように直流電圧を加える。センサ電極8sは、後述するように、NOxの分解に活性なPt-Rhサーメット電極によって形成されているため、センサ電極8s上において酸素分子とNOx分子とがそれぞれ還元されて酸素イオンとなり、ポンピング作用によって基準ガス室12へ排出される。したがって、センサセル5に流れる電流(センサセル電流Is)は、酸素分子の濃度とNOx分子の濃度との、双方の濃度に依存する。
 図5に示すごとく、ポンプセル3に加える電圧(ポンプセル電圧Vp)が減少すると、モニタセル電流Im及びセンサセル電流Isは増加する。これは以下の理由による。すなわち、ポンプセル電圧Vpが低くなると、ポンプセル3によってガスgから排出される酸素の量が低減する。そのため、ガスg中の酸素濃度が増加し、モニタセル4及びセンサセル5によって排出される酸素の量が増加する。これにより、モニタセル4及びセンサセル5を流れる酸素イオンの量が増え、モニタセル電流Im及びセンサセル電流Isが増加する。
 なお、NOx濃度の測定を行うときは、ポンプセル電圧Vpを所定の値、例えば約0.37Vにする。
 上述したように、センサセル5は、所定ガス成分と酸素との両方に活性があるため、図6に示すごとく、センサセル電流Isには、所定ガス成分の濃度に起因した所定ガス起因電流Ixと、酸素濃度に起因した酸素起因電流Isoとが含まれる。また、モニタセル4は酸素に対してのみ活性を有するため、モニタセル電流Imには、所定ガス成分の濃度に起因した成分は含まれない。
 図6に示すごとく、モニタセル電流Imは、酸素起因電流Isoよりも若干少ない。つまり、モニタセル4とセンサセル5は、酸素濃度に対する感度が互いに異なる。これは、モニタセル4とセンサセル5とは電極8の材料が異なり、また、電極8の面積に製造ばらつきが含まれるからである。そのため、センサセル電流Isからモニタセル電流Imを単に減算しただけでは、所定ガス起因電流Ixは正確に算出できない。したがって、所定ガス成分の濃度を正確に算出できない。
 そのため、本例では、モニタセル電流Imが酸素起因電流Isoに近づくように、補正処理を行っている。具体的には、算出部11(図1参照)において、酸素起因電流Isoをモニタセル電流Imで除した値を感度比αとして記憶しておく。そして算出部11は、測定したセンサセル電流Isと、モニタセル電流Imと、感度比αとを下記式に代入することにより、所定ガス起因電流Ixを算出する。

そして、得られた所定ガス起因電流Ixを用いて、所定ガス成分の濃度を算出する。なお、Is-αIm=(Ix+Iso)-Iso/Im・Im=Ixであるため、Is-αImとIxとは互いに等しい。
 感度比αは、ガスセンサ10の個体差によるばらつきがあるため、測定して記憶する必要がある。例えば、ガス濃度検出装置1を製造して出荷するときに、ガスgとして、所定ガス成分を含有しない大気を測定する。そして、得られたセンサセル電流Isとモニタセル電流Imを用いて、感度比αを算出する。
 ガスgに所定ガス成分が含まれる場合は、酸素起因電流Isoを直接測定することはできないが、ガスgに所定ガス成分が含まれない場合は、センサセル電流Is=酸素起因電流Isoとなるため、酸素起因電流Isoを直接測定することができる。したがって、感度比αを、下記式を用いて算出することができる。

 図7に示すごとく、所定ガス成分を含有しない大気を測定すると、センサセル電流Isの方が、モニタセル電流Imよりも僅かに高い値になることが分かる。これは、センサセル5の方が、モニタセル4よりも酸素に対する感度が高いからである。したがって感度比α(=Is/Im)は、1よりも大きい値になることが多い。
 本例では、ガスgに所定ガス成分が含まれない状態において、ポンプセル電圧Vpを段階的に変化させる。これにより、ガス室7におけるガスgの酸素濃度が互いに異なる複数の状態を作る。そして、各々の状態においてモニタセル電流Imとセンサセル電流Isとを測定する。図8に、このようにして得られたモニタセル電流Imとセンサセル電流Isとの相関関係を示す。
 ポンプセル電圧Vpが低い状態では、ガスg(大気)中の酸素濃度が増加し、モニタセル電流Im及びセンサセル電流Isが増加する。また、ポンプセル電圧Vpが高い状態では、ガスg中の酸素濃度が低減し、モニタセル電流Im及びセンサセル電流Isが低減する。図8から、ガスg中の酸素濃度を変化させたときに得られる、モニタセル電流Imとセンサセル電流Isとの測定値は、一直線上にのることが分かる。本例では、この直線の傾きを、上記感度比α(=Is/Im)として用いている。また、本例では、この直線の傾きを求める際に、最小二乗法を用いている。
 上述したように、感度比αは、ガスセンサ10の個体差に依存する。図8に示すごとく、感度比α、すなわち直線の傾きは、殆どのガスセンサ10で、1~2の値をとる。
 図9のグラフは、NOxを含有しないガスgを測定したときの、ポンプセル電圧Vpと、Im,Is,Is-Im,Is-αImとの関係を表したものである。同図に示すごとく、センサセル電流Isからモニタセル電流Imを単に引いた値(Is-Im)は、ポンプセル電圧Vpが0.35~0.39Vの範囲(NOx濃度を測定するときの、ポンプセル電圧Vpがばらつく範囲)では、比較的大きな値となり、NOx濃度に換算すると±6ppm程度になる。これに対して、モニタセル電流Imに感度比αを掛けて補正し、これをセンサセル電流Isから減算した値(Is-αIm)は、ポンプセル電圧Vpが0.35~0.39Vの範囲では、Is-Imよりも小さな値となり、NOx濃度に換算すると±1ppm以下にすることができる。
 図6に示すごとく、NOxを含有するガスgを測定する際には、センサセル電流Isは、所定ガス起因電流Ixと酸素起因電流Isoとの和になる。本例では、IsoとαImを殆ど等しくすることができ、Iso-αImから算出されるNOx濃度を±1ppm以下にできる。そのため、所定ガス起因電流Ixを正確に算出することができる。
 一方、ガスセンサ10の電極8の特性は経時変化するため、感度比αは時間と共に変化する。そのため、定期的に感度比αを測定して、最新の感度比αを記憶する必要がある。
 ガス濃度検出装置1を車両等に取り付ける前の時点では、上述したように、ガスgとして、所定ガス成分を含有しない大気を測定できるため、Is=Isoとなる。したがって、α=Iso/Im=Is/Imとなるため、感度比αを正確に算出することができる。
 しかしながら、ガス濃度検出装置1を車両等に取り付けた後は、所定ガス成分(NOx)を含有しない大気を測定することができない。ガスgに所定ガス成分が含まれる場合は、酸素起因電流Isoを直接測定できないため、感度比α(=Iso/Im)を正確に測定することはできない。
 そのため、本例では、感度比αの代わりに、その近似値α’を定期的に算出している。具体的には、以下のようにする。すなわち、NOx濃度を測定する場合、上述したようにポンプセル電圧Vpを約0.37Vにしているが、感度比αの近似値α’を測定するときには、ポンプセル電圧Vpをこれよりも低い値にする。例えば、ポンプセル電圧Vpを約0.2Vにする。このようにすると、ポンプセル3によって排出される酸素分子の量が減少し、ガスg中の酸素濃度が増加する。この状態では、ガスg中の酸素濃度が、所定ガス成分の濃度よりも遥かに高いため、図10に示すごとく、センサセル電流Is中における酸素起因電流Isoの割合が、所定ガス起因電流Ixの割合よりも格段に高くなる。そのため、所定ガス起因電流Ixの存在を殆ど無視することができる。したがって、図11に示すごとく、近似値α’(=Is/Im)を、感度比α(=Iso/Im)に殆ど等しい値として、算出することができる。
 また、近似値α’を算出した後は、所定ガス成分の濃度を測定するにあたり、下記の数式を用いる。すなわち、下記数式に、測定したセンサセル電流Isとモニタセル電流Imと上記近似値α’とを代入することにより、所定ガス起因電流Ixの近似値Ix’を算出する。この近似値Ix’を用いることにより、所定ガス成分の濃度を高い精度で算出することができる。
Is-α’Im=Ix’
 次に、本例のガスセンサ10の構造について、詳細に説明する。図1~図4に示すごとく、本例のガスセンサ10は、固体電解質体2を1枚のみ備える。この1枚の固体電解質体2に、ポンプ電極8pと、モニタ電極8mと、センサ電極8sと、基準電極8bとを形成してある。すなわち、本例では、1枚の固体電解質体2を使って、ポンプセル3と、モニタセル4と、センサセル5との、3個のセルを形成している。
 図1、図4に示すごとく、本例のガスセンサ10は、セラミック等からなる絶縁板191と、ガス室7を形成するためのシート状の第1スペーサ192と、固体電解質体2と、基準ガス室12を形成するためのシート状の第2スペーサ193と、ヒータ6とを、該ヒータ6の厚さ方向(Z方向)に積層することにより構成されている。
 図4に示すごとく、第1スペーサ192には第1切欠部79を形成してあり、この第1切欠部79がガス室7となる。また、第1スペーサ192には、拡散抵抗層13を設けてある。この拡散抵抗層13を通して、排気管からガス室7へガスgが導入される。拡散抵抗層13によって、ガスgの流入速度を制限している。
 また、第2スペーサ193には第2切欠部129が形成されている。この第2切欠部129が、基準ガス室12となる。第2切欠部129は、大気が存在する外部空間に連通している。第1スペーサ192及び第2スペーサ193は、アルミナ等の絶縁材料から構成されている。
 ポンプ電極8pとモニタ電極8mとは、NOxに対する分解活性が低い金属材料から構成されている。具体的には、これらの電極8p,8mは、主成分として金Auと白金Ptとを含有する多孔質サーメット電極からなる。電極8p,8m中の金Auの含有量は、1~10重量%程度である。また、センサ電極8sは、NOxに対する分解活性が高い金属材料から構成されている。具体的には、センサ電極8sは、主成分として白金PtとロジウムRhとを含有する多孔質サーメット電極からなる。
 図4に示すごとく、電極8には、電流の経路となるリード16が形成されている。また、固体電解質体2、第1スペーサ192、絶縁板191には、Z方向に貫通したスルーホール17が形成されている。このスルーホール17内に、金属製のプラグを形成してある。また、絶縁板191の表面には、外部機器と電気接続するためのパッド15を複数個形成してある。個々のパッド15と電極8m,8s,8pとは、上記プラグとリード16とを介して、それぞれ電気的に接続されている。
 ヒータ6は、セラミック製のヒータシート62と、該ヒータシート62の表面に形成され通電により発熱するヒータ電極63と、該ヒータ電極63を被覆する絶縁層61とからなる。ヒータ6は、ヒータ電極63を外部からの給電により発熱させ、上記セル3,4,5をそれぞれ活性化温度まで加熱するよう構成されている。また、第2スペーサ193と、絶縁層61と、ヒータシート62とには、スルーホール170が形成されており、ヒータシート62の表面にはパッド18が形成されている。スルーホール170内には、金属製のプラグが形成されている。このプラグにより、ヒータ電極63及び基準電極8bを、それぞれパッド18に電気接続している。
 また、ヒータ電極63の発熱中心は、ポンプセル3側に偏っている。すなわち、ポンプセル3の方が、モニタセル4やセンサセル5よりも高温になるように、ヒータ電極63を使って、各セル3,4,5を加熱するよう構成されている。
 図1、図2に示すごとく、本例のガス室7は、ポンプセル3を形成した側から、モニタセル4及びセンサセル5を形成した側まで、全体にわたって、Z方向における間隔が一定であると共に、X方向とZ方向との双方に直交する幅方向(Y方向)における間隔が一定であり、一体的に形成されている。すなわち、ガス室7内における、ポンプセル3を形成した側と、モニタセル4及びセンサセル5を形成した側との間には、絞り部や隔壁のように、Z方向間隔またはY方向間隔を狭くする部位が形成されていない。これにより、ガスgが、ポンプセル3を形成した側から、モニタセル4及びセンサセル5を形成した側へ拡散律速することなく流れるようにしてある。
 また、本例では図2に示すごとく、X方向における、ポンプ電極8pからモニタ電極8mまでの距離L1と、ポンプ電極8pからセンサ電極8sまでの距離L2とが互いに等しい。
 また、本例では図1、図4に示すごとく、基準電極8bを共通化してある。すなわち、基準電極8bのうち、ポンプセル3を構成する部位と、モニタセル4を構成する部位と、センサセル5を構成する部位とが一体化している。
 本例の作用効果について説明する。本例のガス濃度検出装置1における算出部11は、所定ガス成分の濃度を算出するときに、モニタセル電流Imの値を、酸素起因電流Isoの値に近づけるように補正する。
 そのため、所定ガス成分の濃度をより正確に算出することが可能になる。すなわち、上述したように、センサセル電流Isには、所定ガス成分の濃度に起因する成分である所定ガス起因電流Ixと、酸素起因電流Isoとが含まれる。上記補正処理を行うと、補正後のモニタセル電流Im’は、酸素起因電流Isoに近い値になる。そのため、補正後のモニタセル電流Im’をセンサセル電流Is(=Ix+Iso)から減算すれば、Is-Im’=(Ix+Iso)-Im’≒Ixとなり、正確な所定ガス起因電流Ixを算出することができる。そのため、所定ガス成分の濃度を正確に算出することが可能になる。
 また、上記算出部11は、下記式を用いて、センサセル電流Is中の所定ガス起因電流Ixを算出する。
Is-αIm=Ix
 そして、得られた所定ガス起因電流Ixを用いて、所定ガス成分の濃度を算出する。
 そのため、センサセル電流Is中の所定ガス起因電流Ixは、容易に、かつ確実に算出される。
 また、本例では、図7、図8に示すごとく、ガスgに所定ガス成分が含まれない状態において、センサセル電流Isとモニタセル電流Imとを測定する。この状態では、センサセル電流Isには所定ガス起因電流Ixが含まれないため、センサセル電流Is=酸素起因電流Isoとなる。そのため、下記式を用いて、感度比αを容易に、かつ正確に算出することができる。
α=Iso/Im=Is/Im
 また、本例では図7、図8に示すごとく、感度比αを算出するときに、ポンプセル電圧Vpを変化させる。これにより、ガス室7におけるガスgの酸素濃度が、互いに異なる複数の状態を形成する。そして、各々の状態においてセンサセル電流Isとモニタセル電流Imを測定する。これにより、感度比αを算出する。
 そのため、複数の測定データを用いて感度比αを算出することで、より正確な感度比αを求めることが可能になる。
 また、本例では、ガスセンサ10を車両に取り付けた後、所定ガス成分が含まれているガスgを用いて、感度比αの近似値α’を算出する。この際、ポンプセル電圧Vpを、所定ガス成分の濃度を算出するときの値よりも低くする。そして、下記数式を用いて、近似値α’を算出する。
Is/Im=α’
 そのため、所定ガス成分が含まれているガスgを用いて、感度比αに近い値である、近似値α’を算出することができる。上述したように、感度比αは経時変化するため、定期的に感度比αを算出する必要がある。また、ガス濃度検出装置を一旦、車両等に取り付けた後は、所定ガス成分(NOx)を含有しない大気等を、ガスgとして測定することができない。本例では、ガスgに所定ガス成分が含まれていても、感度比αに近い値を算出できるため、感度比αが経時変化した後でも、所定ガス成分の濃度を正確に測定することができる。
 なお、上記近似値α’の算出は、いわゆる車両のエンジンがフューエルカットを受けている時のように、所定ガス成分の濃度がなるべく低くなる時に行うことが好ましい。
 また、図1、図2に示すごとく、本例のガスセンサ10は、ポンプセル3を形成した側から、モニタセル4及びセンサセル5を形成した側まで、全体にわたって、Z方向における間隔が一定であると共に、Y方向における間隔が一定であり、一体的に形成されている。すなわち、ガス室7内における、ポンプセル3を形成した側と、モニタセル4及びセンサセル5を形成した側との間には、絞り部や隔壁のように、Z方向間隔またはY方向間隔を狭くする部位が形成されていない。
 そのため、ポンプセル3からモニタセル4及びセンサセル5へ、ガスgを拡散律速することなく流すことができる。したがって、所定ガス成分の濃度が変化したときに、その変化をすぐに検出することが可能になる。つまり、ガスセンサ10の応答性を高めることが可能になる。
 また、図1~図4に示すごとく、本例では、ポンプセル3とモニタセル4とセンサセル5とは、1枚の固体電解質体2を共有している。そのため、固体電解質体2の枚数を1枚にすることができ、ガスセンサ10の製造コストを低減することができる。
 以上のごとく、本例によれば、所定ガス成分の濃度をより正確に算出できるガス濃度検出装置を提供することができる。
(実施例2)
 以下の実施例においては、図面に用いた符号のうち、実施例1において用いた符号と同一のものは、特に示さない限り、実施例1と同様の構成要素を表す。
 本例は、所定ガス成分を含有するガスgを用いて感度比αの近似値α’を算出するときの、算出方法を変更した例である。図12に示すごとく、ポンプセル3に、互いに値が異なる第1電圧V1と第2電圧V2とを加える。そして、第1電圧V1を加えた状態におけるモニタセル電流Im及びセンサセル電流Isを測定し、第2電圧V2を加えた状態におけるモニタセル電流Im及びセンサセル電流Isを測定する。これらの測定値Im,Is,Im,Isから、下記式を用いて、近似値α’を算出する。

 図13に示すごとく、センサセル電流Is,Isには、所定ガス成分の濃度に起因する成分である所定ガス起因電流Ixと、酸素濃度に起因する成分である酸素起因電流Isoとがある。センサセル電流Is,Isは、ポンプセル電圧Vpを変えて測定した値であるため、酸素起因電流Isoの値が互いに異なる。すなわち、ポンプセル電圧Vpが低いとき(第1電圧V1)は、ガスg中の酸素濃度が高くなるため、酸素起因電流Isoは高い値になる。また、ポンプセル電圧Vpが高いとき(第2電圧V2)は、ガスg中の酸素濃度が低くなるため、酸素起因電流Isoは低い値になる。
 これに対して、所定ガス成分の濃度は、ポンプセル電圧Vpの影響を受けないため、Vp=V1のときと、Vp=V2のときとで、所定ガス起因電流Ixは変わらない。そのため、上記数式(1)においてIs-Isを算出することにより、所定ガス起因電流Ixを消去することが可能になる。また、Vp=V2における酸素起因電流Iso(Iso)は、Vp=V1における酸素起因電流Iso(Iso)よりも格段に低い。
 同様に、図14に示すごとく、ポンプセル電圧Vpを低くした(第1電圧V1)ときは、モニタセル電流Imは高くなり、ポンプセル電圧Vpを高くした(第2電圧V2)ときは、モニタセル電流Imは低くなる。
 以上説明したように、上記数式(1)を用いれば、所定ガス起因電流Ixを消去できるため、所定ガス成分の濃度の影響を受けなくなる。そのため、近似値α’を、感度比αに非常に近い値として算出することができる。
 なお、α’を算出した後は、実施例1と同様に、下記式を用いて、所定ガス成分の濃度を精度良く算出することができる。
Is-α’Im=Ix’
 その他、実施例1と同様の構成および作用効果を有する。
(実施例3)
 本例は、所定ガス成分を含有するガスgを用いて感度比αの近似値α’を算出するときの、算出方法を変更した例である。図15に示すごとく、本例では、近似値α’を算出するときに、ポンプセル電圧Vpを、所定ガス成分の濃度を算出するときの値(V0)よりも高い値(V3)にする。このようにすると、ポンプ電極8p(図1、図2参照)において所定ガス成分であるNOxが分解される。この状態でモニタセル電流Imとセンサセル電流Isとを測定する。この状態では、ガスg中の所定ガス成分が分解されているので、図16に示すごとく、センサセル電流Isには所定ガス起因電流Ixが含まれず、酸素起因電流Isoのみとなる。そのため、下記式を用いて、感度比αの近似値α’を算出することが可能になる。
α’=Iso/Im=Is/Im
 なお、ポンプセル電圧Vpを高くしすぎると、ガスgに含まれるHOがポンプ電極8pにおいて分解してHガスが発生し、このHガスがモニタセル4及びセンサセル5を流れる。そのため、モニタセル電流Imとセンサセル電流Isとがマイナスの値になる。このときの値を用いて感度比を算出すると、Hの感度比が算出されてしまう。したがって、Oの感度比αを求めるには、モニタセル電流Imとセンサセル電流Isとがプラスになっているときの値を用いる必要がある。
 その他、実施例1と同様の構成および作用効果を有する。
(実施例4)
 本例は、所定ガス起因電流Ixの算出方法を変更した例である。モニタセル4及びセンサセル5には、酸素および所定ガス成分の有無に関わらず、オフセット電流Ioffが流れることが知られている。オフセット電流Ioffは、固体電解質体2と電極8との間に生じる電子伝導等が原因だと考えられている。本例では、モニタセル電流Im及びセンサセル電流Isにオフセット電流Ioffが含まれていることを前提として、モニタセル電流Imを補正している。以下、詳説する。
 本例では、ガス濃度検出装置1の出荷時に、NOxを含有しない大気を用いて、センサセル電流Isとモニタセル電流Imとを測定する。この際、ポンプセル3に、互いに異なる第1電圧V1と第2電圧V2とを加える(図17参照)。そして、第1電圧V1を加えたときにおけるセンサセル電流Is及びモニタセル電流Imと、第2電圧V2を加えたときにおけるセンサセル電流Is及びモニタセル電流Imとを、それぞれ測定する。
 ポンプセル3に、上記電圧V1,V2のうち低い電圧である第1電圧V1を印加したときは、高い電圧である第2電圧V2を印加したときよりも、ガス室7内のOの濃度が増加する。そのため、第1電圧V1を印加したときのセンサセル電流Is及びモニタセル電流Imは、第2電圧V2を印加したときのセンサセル電流Is及びモニタセル電流Imよりも、大きな値になる。
 図18、図19に示すごとく、モニタセル電流Im,Im(図19参照)、及びセンサセル電流Is,Isには、上記オフセット電流Ioffが含まれる。オフセット電流Ioffは酸素濃度に依存しないため、各電流Im,Im,Is,Isに含まれるオフセット電流Ioffは、殆ど同一である。
 図18に示すごとく、モニタセル電流Imとセンサセル電流Isのうち、酸素濃度に対する感度があるのは、オフセット電流Ioffを除いた成分(Im-Ioff)と(Is-Ioff)だけである。Is-IoffとIm-Ioffとの比を、減算値感度比βとして定義する。

 減算値感度比βは、ポンプセル電圧Vpを変化させ、ガス室7の酸素濃度を変化させても一定である(図19参照)。ポンプセル電圧Vpを上記第2電圧V2にしたときの減算値感度比βは、下記式のようになる。

 算出部11は、NOx濃度を測定する際に、図20に示すごとく、モニタセル電流Imとセンサセル電流Isとを測定する。算出部11は、測定したモニタセル電流Imの値を、下記式を用いて、酸素起因電流Isoの値に近づけるように補正する。

 算出部11は、その後、下記式を用いて、センサセル電流Isからモニタセル電流Imの補正値Im’を減算する。これにより、所定ガス起因電流Ixを算出する。

 以上説明した演算を行うことにより、所定ガス起因電流Ixを正確に求めることができ、所定ガス成分の濃度を正確に算出することが可能となる。
 その他、実施例1と同様の構成および作用効果を有する。
(実施例5)
 本例は、NOxを含有するガスgを用いて、減算値感度比βの近似値β’、及びオフセット電流Ioffの近似値Ioff’を測定するようにした例である。減算値感度比β及びオフセット電流Ioffは、経年変化する。また、ガス濃度検出装置1を車体等に取り付けた後は、NOxを含有しないガスgを測定する機会が殆ど無い。そのため本例では、NOxを含有するガスgを用いて、減算値感度比βの近似値β’、及びオフセット電流Ioffの近似値Ioff’を定期的に測定し、その値を更新するようにしている。
 上記近似値β’,Ioff’を測定するにあたって、まず、ポンプセル3に互いに異なる第3電圧V3と第4電圧V4とを印加する。そして、第3電圧V3を加えたときにおけるセンサセル電流Is及びモニタセル電流Im(図21、図22参照)と、第4電圧V4を加えたときにおけるセンサセル電流Is及びモニタセル電流Imとを測定する。そして、下記式を用いて、上記近似値β’,Ioff’を算出する。

 センサセル電流Is,Isは、所定ガス成分の濃度が同一のガスgを測定して得られた値なので、各センサセル電流Is,Isに含まれる所定ガス起因電流Ixは互いに等しい。また、オフセット電流Ioffも互いに等しい。上記式(2)の分子では、Is-Isを演算しているため、IxとIoffが消去される。同様に、図22に示すごとく、モニタセル電流Im,Imに含まれるオフセット電流Ioffは、互いに等しい。上記式(2)の分母では、Im-Imを演算しているため、Ioffを消去することができる。
 このように、上記式(2)を用いることにより、各電流Is,Is,Im,Imに含まれるオフセット電流Ioffと所定ガス起因電流Ixとを消去でき、減算値感度比βの近似値β’を比較的精度良く算出することができる。
 算出部11は、所定ガス成分(NOx)の濃度を測定する際に、センサセル電流Is及びモニタセル電流Imを測定する。そして下記式を用いて、モニタセル電流Imの値を、酸素起因電流Isoの値に近づけるように補正する。
Im’=β’(Im-Ioff’)+Ioff
 その後、算出部11は、下記式を用いて、センサセル電流Isからモニタセル電流Imの補正値Im’を減算する。これにより、所定ガス起因電流Ixの近似値Ix’を算出し、この近似値Ix’を用いて、所定ガス成分の濃度を算出する。
Ix’=Is-Im’=Is-{β’(Im-Ioff’)+Ioff’}
 このようにすると、定期的に更新された上記近似値β’,Ioff’を用いて、所定ガス起因電流Ixの近似値Ix’を算出できるため、ガスセンサ10の特性が経年変化しても、ガスの濃度を正確に測定することが可能となる。
 その他、実施例1と同様の構成および作用効果を有する。

Claims (10)

  1.  ガスに曝されるガスセンサ(10)と、該ガスセンサ(10)の出力を用いて、上記ガスに含まれる所定ガス成分の濃度を算出する算出部(11)とを備えるガス濃度検出装置(1)であって、
     上記ガスセンサ(10)は、上記ガスが導入されるガス室(7)と、基準ガスが導入される基準ガス室(12)と、上記ガス室(7)と上記基準ガス室(12)との間に介在し酸素イオン伝導性を有する固体電解質体(2)と、該固体電解質体(2)の両面に設けられた複数の電極(8)とを備え、
     上記固体電解質体(2)と上記電極(8)とにより、上記ガス室(7)における上記ガスの酸素濃度を調整するポンプセル(3)と、上記ガス中の酸素濃度に対応した量の電流が流れるモニタセル(4)と、上記ガス中の酸素濃度に対応した量の電流と上記所定ガス成分の濃度に対応した量の電流との合計の電流が流れるセンサセル(5)とを形成してあり、
     上記算出部(11)は、上記モニタセル(4)に流れる電流であるモニタセル電流Imの値を、上記センサセル(5)に流れる電流であるセンサセル電流Isのうち酸素濃度に起因する成分である酸素起因電流Isoの値に近づけるように補正し、その補正値Im’を上記センサセル電流Isから減算することにより、上記センサセル電流Isのうち上記所定ガス成分の濃度に起因する成分である所定ガス起因電流Ixを求めて、上記ガス中の上記所定ガス成分の濃度を算出するよう構成されていることを特徴とするガス濃度検出装置(1)。
  2.  上記算出部(11)は、上記ガスに上記所定ガス成分が含まれない状態において、上記センサセル電流Isと上記モニタセル電流Imとを測定し、下記式(1)を用いて、上記酸素起因電流Isoと上記モニタセル電流Imとの比である感度比αを算出し、

     上記算出部(11)は、上記ガスに上記所定ガス成分が含まれている状態において、上記センサセル電流Isと上記モニタセル電流Imとを測定し、下記式(2)を用いて上記所定ガス起因電流Ixを算出して、上記所定ガス成分の濃度を求めるよう構成されていることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のガス濃度検出装置(1)。

  3.  上記算出部(11)は、上記ガスに上記所定ガス成分が含まれない状態において、上記ポンプセル(3)に加える電圧を変化させることにより、上記ガス室(7)における上記ガス中の酸素濃度が互いに異なる複数の状態を形成し、各々の状態において上記センサセル電流Isと上記モニタセル電流Imとを測定して、上記感度比αを算出するよう構成されていることを特徴とする請求項2に記載のガス濃度検出装置(1)。
  4.  上記算出部(11)は、上記ガスに上記所定ガス成分が含まれているときに、上記ポンプセル(3)に加える電圧を、上記所定ガス成分の濃度を算出するときの値よりも低くし、その状態で上記センサセル電流Isと上記モニタセル電流Imとを測定し、下記式(3)を用いることにより、上記感度比αの近似値α’を算出し、
    Is/Im=α’     (3)
     上記算出部(11)は、上記ガス中の上記所定ガス成分の濃度を検出するときに、上記センサセル電流Isと上記モニタセル電流Imとを測定し、下記式(4)を用いて、上記所定ガス起因電流Ixの近似値Ix’を算出することにより、上記所定ガス成分の濃度を近似的に求めるよう構成されていることを特徴とする請求項2又は請求項3に記載のガス濃度検出装置(1)。

  5.  上記算出部(11)は、上記ガスに上記所定ガス成分が含まれているときに、上記ポンプセル(3)に互いに値が異なる第1電圧(V1)と第2電圧(V2)とを加え、上記第1電圧(V1)を加えた状態における上記モニタセル電流Im及び上記センサセル電流Isを測定すると共に、上記第2電圧(V2)を加えた状態における上記モニタセル電流Im及び上記センサセル電流Isを測定し、下記式(5)を用いて、上記感度比αの近似値α’を算出し、
    (Is-Is)/(Im-Im)=α’     (5)
     上記算出部(11)は、上記ガス中の上記所定ガス成分の濃度を検出するときに、上記センサセル電流Isと上記モニタセル電流Imとを測定し、下記式(6)を用いて、上記所定ガス起因電流Ixの近似値Ix’を算出することにより、上記所定ガス成分の濃度を近似的に求めるよう構成されていることを特徴とする請求項2又は請求項3に記載のガス濃度検出装置(1)。

  6.  上記算出部(11)は、上記ガスに上記所定ガス成分が含まれているときに、上記ポンプセル(3)に加える電圧を、上記所定ガス成分の濃度を算出するときの値よりも高くし、その状態で上記センサセル電流Isと上記モニタセル電流Imとを測定し、下記式(7)を用いることにより、上記感度比αの近似値α’を算出し、

     上記算出部(11)は、上記ガス中の上記所定ガス成分の濃度を検出するときに、上記センサセル電流Isと上記モニタセル電流Imとを測定し、下記式(8)を用いて、上記所定ガス起因電流Ixの近似値Ix’を算出することにより、上記所定ガス成分の濃度を近似的に求めるよう構成されていることを特徴とする請求項2又は請求項3に記載のガス濃度検出装置(1)。

  7.  上記算出部(11)は、上記ガスに上記所定ガス成分が含まれない状態において、上記ポンプセル(3)に互いに値が異なる第1電圧(V1)と第2電圧(V2)とを加え、上記第1電圧(V1)を加えた状態における上記モニタセル電流Im及び上記センサセル電流Isを測定すると共に、上記第2電圧(V2)を加えた状態における上記モニタセル電流Im及び上記センサセル電流Isを測定し、下記式(9)を用いて、上記センサセル電流Isから、酸素および上記所定ガス成分の有無に関わらず流れる成分であるオフセット電流Ioffを減算した値Is-Ioffと、上記モニタセル電流Imから上記オフセット電流Ioffを減算した値Im-Ioffとの比である減算値感度比βを算出すると共に、下記式(10)を用いて上記オフセット電流Ioffを算出し、

    off=(Is-βIm)/(1-β)     (10)
     上記算出部(11)は、上記ガス中の上記所定ガス成分の濃度を検出するときに、上記センサセル電流Isと上記モニタセル電流Imとを測定し、下記式(11)を用いて上記所定ガス起因電流Ixを算出して、上記所定ガス成分の濃度を求めるよう構成されていることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のガス濃度検出装置(1)。

  8.  上記算出部(11)は、上記ガスに上記所定ガス成分が含まれているときに、上記ポンプセル(3)に互いに値が異なる第3電圧(V3)と第4電圧(V4)とを加え、上記第3電圧(V3)を加えた状態における上記モニタセル電流Im及び上記センサセル電流Isを測定すると共に、上記第4電圧(V4)を加えた状態における上記モニタセル電流Im及び上記センサセル電流Isを測定し、下記式(12)を用いて、上記減算値感度比βの近似値β’を算出すると共に、下記式(13)を用いて、上記オフセット電流Ioffの近似値Ioff’を算出し、

    off’=(Is-β’Im)/(1-β’)     (13)
     上記算出部(11)は、上記ガス中の上記所定ガス成分の濃度を検出するときに、上記センサセル電流Isと上記モニタセル電流Imとを測定し、下記式(14)を用いて、上記所定ガス起因電流Ixの近似値Ix’を算出することにより、上記所定ガス成分の濃度を近似的に求めるよう構成されていることを特徴とする請求項7に記載のガス濃度検出装置(1)。

  9.  上記ガス室(7)は、上記ポンプセル(3)を形成した側から、上記モニタセル(4)及び上記センサセル(5)を形成した側にわたって、上記固体電解質体(2)の厚さ方向における間隔が一定であると共に、上記ガスの流れ方向と上記厚さ方向との双方に直交する幅方向における間隔が一定であり、一体的に形成されていることを特徴とする請求項1~請求項8のいずれか1項に記載のガス濃度検出装置(1)。
  10.  上記ポンプセル(3)と上記モニタセル(4)と上記センサセル(5)とは、1つの上記固体電解質体(2)を共有していることを特徴とする請求項1~請求項9のいずれか1項に記載のガス濃度検出装置(1)。
