Definitions
- the present invention relates to a gas generator used in a vehicle personnel restraint device such as an air bag device.
- a gas generator for deploying an air bag may use an elongated cylindrical housing because of its installation location. In that case, an igniter is attached to one end and a gas exhaust is provided to the other end. It becomes a structure which provides an exit. If the position of the igniter and the gas outlet is separated in this way, when the airbag is attached to the gas outlet, the lead wire connected to the igniter does not get in the way, so there is an advantage that the attachment to the vehicle is easy. is there. However, in a structure having an igniter on one end side, when the gas generating agent burns from one end side toward the other end side, there are cases where there are places where it is easy to ignite and places where it is difficult to ignite.
- an igniter 20 is disposed at one end of an elongated housing 12, and a gas generating agent 30 is filled around the igniter 20.
- the chamber in which the igniter 20 is arranged and filled with the gas generating agent 30 and the chamber 21 filled with another gas generating agent 99 are partitioned by a spacer 18 having a communication hole 19 formed in the central portion. Yes.
- the communication hole 19 is closed with a seal 97.
- the igniter 20 is disposed in a state in which the ignition part protrudes into the combustion chamber, a pocket-shaped annular space is formed in the vicinity of the end closure 22 and the gas generating agent 30 is fitted therein. It has become.
- the ignition means includes an igniter main body including a columnar ignition part fixed by a fixing means including an igniter collar, and the ignition part is disposed in a state of protruding into the first combustion chamber.
- the first perforated plate member has a first through hole, and in the circumferential direction of the first perforated plate member in the vicinity of the peripheral edge in the total opening area of the first through hole of the first perforated plate member. The ratio of the first total opening area of only the arranged outer first through holes is 95% or more,
- the axial end face of the first combustion chamber is formed by the first perforated plate member, the ignition part of the igniter and the igniter collar, respectively.
- An annular space is formed between the outer peripheral surface of the ignition part and the inner peripheral wall surface of the cylindrical housing facing the outer peripheral surface in the radial direction, and the bottom surface of the annular space is an igniter collar,
- FIG. 1 is an axial sectional view of a gas generator of the present invention.
- FIG. 2 is a partially enlarged view of FIG.
- FIG. 3 is a diagram illustrating an arrangement state of the through holes in the first perforated plate member.
- FIG. 4 is a perspective view of a gas generant molded body filled in the first combustion chamber.
- FIG. 5 is an explanatory view of a filling state of the gas generant molded body in the first combustion chamber.
- FIG. 6 is a diagram illustrating an arrangement state of through holes in the second perforated plate member.
- the present invention is an elongated gas generator that burns out all the gas generant molded bodies as designed even if the structure has a pocket-shaped annular space around the igniter. It is an object of the present invention to provide a gas generator that can be used.
- a first combustion chamber is formed by being surrounded by a cylindrical housing, a first perforated plate member, and ignition means (igniter and igniter collar).
- the first through holes are a plurality of holes that communicate the inside and outside of the first combustion chamber.
- the outer first through holes are arranged in the circumferential direction on the periphery of the first perforated plate member.
- the first perforated plate member preferably has a first through hole made of only the outer first through hole in the circumferential direction only in the vicinity of the peripheral portion, but the first through hole is also formed in a portion excluding the vicinity of the peripheral portion. Can be provided.
- the outer first through hole is a through hole located on the outermost side of the first perforated plate member.
- the first through hole may be closed with a seal tape.
- the ratio of the first total opening area of only the outer first through hole only in the vicinity of the peripheral edge in the total opening area of the first through hole of the first perforated plate member is 95% or more, preferably 98% or more. 100% is more preferable.
- the formation position of the 1st through-hole near a peripheral part is from a periphery when the radius r is set from the center point (point where the axis
- the distance to the center of each through hole is preferably within 0.2r (within 20% of radius r), and more preferably within 0.15r (within 15% of radius r).
- the ignition means includes an igniter body including an ignition part fixed by a fixing means including an igniter collar, and the ignition part is disposed in a state of protruding into the first combustion chamber. For this reason, a pocket-shaped annular space with the igniter collar as the bottom surface is formed between the outer peripheral surface of the ignition portion protruding into the first combustion chamber and the inner wall peripheral surface of the cylindrical housing.
- the first gas generating agent is a plurality of gas generating agent molded bodies. When the first gas generating agent is filled in the first combustion chamber, some of the molded body or a part of the molded body is disposed in the pocket-shaped annular space.
- the first gas generating agent molded body When the first gas generating agent molded body is filled in the first combustion chamber in the manufacturing process of the gas generator, not all the first gas generating agent molded bodies are aligned and filled.
- the first gas generating agent compact is poured into a space (first combustion chamber) that becomes a combustion chamber. For this reason, for example, in the case of a cylindrical gas generant molded body, it is in a state of being poured in various directions, and there is a gap between adjacent gas generant molded bodies. . After that, after working to eliminate the above-mentioned gap by applying vibration from the outside, it was pressed from both sides in the axial direction with a fixing member (in the present invention, the first perforated plate member and the ignition means) so that the gap was eliminated. Fix in state.
- the gas generant molded body Since the gas generant molded body is filled in this way, the state of filling of the gas generant molded body after filling cannot be confirmed, but in the gas generant molded body, there is a cylindrical ignition in the annular space. It is also conceivable that there are those filled in a state where they are located only below (the igniter collar side) the height (H) of the top surface of the part. That is, if Lmin> H, the gas generant molded body is always filled in a state of protruding from the annular space. However, when the relationship of Lmin ⁇ H is satisfied, depending on the filling state, In the annular space, there is a possibility of filling in a state where it is located only below the height (H) of the top surface of the cylindrical ignition portion.
- the minimum length (Lmin) of the gas generant molded body is, for example, a diameter in the case of a cylinder, and a thickness in the case of a disk (disk).
- the igniter When the igniter is activated and combustion products are released from the ignition part, it is released forward from the ignition part (top surface of the ignition part), including cases where it is released straight or radially. Become. At this time, if a portion including the central portion (portion that coincides with the axis X) of the first perforated plate member is greatly opened (or if the seal tape is broken and opened greatly), the combustion product from the ignition portion Since most of the fuel is discharged as it is to the outside of the first combustion chamber, there is a risk that ignition delay of the first gas generant molded body filled in the pocket-shaped annular space in the first combustion chamber or unburned residue may occur. There is.
- the first perforated plate member has a first through hole including only the outer first through hole in the circumferential direction only in the vicinity of the peripheral edge portion.
- Ratio (a2) of the total opening area (a1) of the first through-holes possessed by the first porous plate member and the total opening area (a2) of the second through-holes possessed by the second porous plate member / A1) is preferably in the range of 0.9 to 1.2.
- the combustion gas generated by burning the first gas generant molded body in the first combustion chamber flows into the space (combustion gas transition space) between the first perforated plate member and the second perforated plate member. It flows into the second combustion chamber through the through hole of the two porous plate member. At this time, if a2 / a1 satisfies the above relationship, the combustion gas is transferred from the through hole of the first porous plate member to the combustion gas transfer space, and from the combustion gas transfer space to the through hole of the second porous plate member. Is preferred because it is done more quickly.
- a cylindrical member having a communication hole in the peripheral wall portion is disposed in the second combustion chamber, The cylindrical member is disposed so as to form a gap between an inner peripheral wall surface of the cylindrical housing and the peripheral wall portion;
- the second perforated plate member side of the cylindrical member has a first opening end portion that is in contact with the inner peripheral surface of the cylindrical housing, preferably an enlarged diameter portion and an outer peripheral edge thereof, and the opposite side is on the diffuser portion side.
- a second end portion supported, preferably having a bottom surface and a central hole at the center thereof.
- the cylindrical member has a communication hole in the peripheral wall portion (preferably has a plurality of communication holes), and is preferably made of an elastic metal.
- the communication holes can be formed at equal intervals in the axial direction and the circumferential direction in the peripheral wall portion of the cylindrical member. Moreover, it can form from a diffuser part side, In this case, the number and diameter of a communicating hole are adjusted so that the opening area by the side of a diffuser part may become large.
- the cylindrical member is disposed so as to form a gap (cylindrical gap) between the cylindrical housing and the inner peripheral wall surface of the cylindrical housing, and faces the one end side (ignition means side) of the housing toward the inner peripheral surface of the housing. And a second end portion supported on the diffuser portion side.
- the outer diameter of the cylindrical member (the outer diameter of the peripheral wall portion) is set to be smaller than the inner diameter of the cylindrical housing.
- the cylindrical member has a communication hole formed in a peripheral wall portion, and the cylindrical gap communicates with the inside of the cylindrical member (second combustion chamber) through this communication hole.
- this cylindrical gap When this cylindrical gap is provided, it becomes a discharge path through which the combustion gas flows to the diffuser portion when the inflator is activated. While the combustion gas flows through the cylindrical gap to the diffuser part, the cylindrical member (peripheral wall part) forming the gap is easily brought into contact with the inner peripheral wall surface of the cylindrical housing, and the residue collecting function and the cooling function are improved. Moreover, since the gas flowing through the cylindrical gap reaches the gas discharge port without hindering the flow, it is preferable because the time from the ignition to the discharge of the gas can be shortened.
- the cylindrical member has a diameter-increased portion in which the opening on the first opening end side is enlarged, and the second end side has a central hole in the center of the bottom surface,
- a gas bypass means having a cup shape, a communication hole in the peripheral wall part, and a protrusion on the bottom surface is disposed so that the opening side is on the diffuser part side,
- the first opening end of the cylindrical member is in contact with the inner wall peripheral surface of the cylindrical housing; It is preferable that a central hole of the cylindrical member is fitted to a protrusion on the bottom surface of the gas bypass means.
- the cylindrical member has an enlarged diameter portion in which the opening on the first opening end portion side (that is, the ignition means side and the first combustion chamber side) is enlarged, and the enlarged diameter portion is inside the cylindrical housing. It is in contact with the peripheral wall surface.
- the outer diameter of the enlarged diameter portion is adjusted to be slightly larger than the inner diameter of the cylindrical housing, so that the inner diameter of the enlarged diameter portion and the cylindrical housing is adjusted.
- the wall surfaces are in strong contact (contact to push each other). For this reason, a cylindrical member will be fixed firmly and formation of a cylindrical gap (especially formation of a cylindrical gap of equal intervals) will become easy. Furthermore, since the combustion product from the second gas generating agent compact can be prevented from short-passing into the cylindrical gap, the ignitability of the entire second gas generating agent is improved.
- the cylindrical member has a central hole in which the second opening end portion side (that is, the diffuser portion side) penetrates the bottom surface at the center of the bottom surface.
- the gas bypass means has a cup shape, has a communication hole in the peripheral wall portion, and has a protrusion on the bottom surface facing the second combustion chamber.
- the gas bypass means is disposed so that the opening side faces the diffuser part side.
- the gas bypass means is arranged such that its central axis coincides with the central axis of the diffuser portion and the central axis of the cylindrical housing.
- a projection on the bottom surface of the gas bypass means is fitted into the central hole on the second end side of the cylindrical member. For this reason, it is easy to fix the cylindrical member on the second end side and to form the cylindrical gap (particularly, to form the cylindrical gaps at equal intervals). Furthermore, when fixed in this way, the central axis of the diffuser part, the central axis of the cylindrical housing, and the central axis of the gas bypass means are all aligned so that they can be easily aligned with the central axis of the cylindrical member. Can be matched.
- the first perforated plate member has a first through hole consisting only of the outer first through hole in the circumferential direction only in the vicinity of the peripheral edge
- the second perforated plate member has a plurality of second through holes including only outer second through holes in the circumferential direction only in the vicinity of the peripheral edge.
- the gas discharge path can be quickly opened.
- the gas generator of the present invention is disposed in a state in which the igniter of the igniter is protruded into the combustion chamber, and a pocket-shaped annular space is formed in the combustion chamber accordingly. Regardless of the filling state of the body, there is no ignition delay or unburned residue of the entire gas generant molded body.
- An igniter 16 serving as an ignition means is attached to the one end 10a side of the cylindrical housing 10.

Abstract
