- the existing anhydrosugar alcohol manufacturing method has a high cost of the catalyst used in the dehydration reaction, and has a low conversion rate, distillation and purification yield.
- anhydrosugar alcohols that are excellent in both high purity as well as ion content, pH, conductivity and color characteristics are required.
- the present invention has been made to solve the above-mentioned problems of the prior art, and provides a method for producing a low-cost, high-efficiency anhydrosugar alcohol having a high purity of 99% or more and excellent in ionic content, pH, conductivity and color characteristics. Let it be technical problem.
- the present invention to solve the above technical problem, (1) the step of dehydrating the hydrogenated sugar to anhydrosugar alcohol; (2) distilling the reaction resultant of step (1); (3) crystallizing the resulting distillate of step (2); (4) decolorizing the crystallite resulting from the step (3); (5) treating the resultant of step (4) with a cationic ion exchange resin; And (6) treating the resultant product of step (5) with an anionic ion exchange resin.
- the present invention has a high purity of 99% or more of final purity and at the same time 10 ppm or less of ion content (more preferably 1 ppm or less, such as 0.01 to 1 ppm), pH 6 to 8, conductivity (preferably as low as possible) 10 dB / cm or less ( For example, 0.01 to 10 ⁇ s / cm and a YI value of 0.1 or less (for example, 0.01 to 0.1), the ion content is remarkably reduced, has an appropriate pH, the conductivity is low, the color characteristics are improved, and is used for various applications. Highly suitable anhydrosugar alcohols can be produced at low cost and high efficiency.
- the anhydrosugar alcohol production method of the present invention includes the step of converting the hydrogenated sugar to anhydrosugar alcohol by dehydration reaction.
- the hydrogenated sugar is generally called a sugar alcohol, and means a compound obtained by adding hydrogen to a reducing end group of the sugar.
- Hydrogenated sugars are classified according to carbon number into tetratritol, pentitol, hexitol and heptitol (4, 5, 6 and 7 carbon atoms, respectively).
- hexitol having 6 carbon atoms includes sorbitol, mannitol, iditol, galactitol and the like, and sorbitol and mannitol are particularly useful substances.
- anhydrosugar alcohol means any substance obtained by removing one or more water molecules from the original internal structure of the hydrogenated sugar in one or more steps in any manner.
- hexitol is preferably used as the hydrogenated sugar, more preferably a hydrogenated sugar selected from sorbitol, mannitol, iditol, and mixtures thereof, and even more preferably, a hydrogenation reaction is performed on glucose derived from starch. Sorbitol is used, which can be easily prepared through.
- the hydrogenated sugar is converted to anhydrosugar alcohol by dehydration reaction.
- dehydration reaction There is no particular limitation on the method of dehydrating hydrogenated sugars, and known methods known in the art may be used as they are or as appropriately modified.
- Acid catalysts are preferably used to dehydrate the hydrogenated sugars and convert them to anhydrosugar alcohols.
- a single acid catalyst such as sulfuric acid, nitric acid, hydrochloric acid, p-toluene sulfonic acid, phosphoric acid may be used as the acid catalyst, and more preferably sulfuric acid may be used.
- a mixed acid of a first acid and a second acid may be used as the acid catalyst, more preferably sulfuric acid as the first acid, p-toluene sulfonic acid as the second acid, methane sulfide
- sulfur-containing acid materials selected from the group consisting of phonic acid, ethane sulfonic acid, benzene sulfonic acid, naphthalene sulfonic acid and aluminum sulfate can be used.
- the ratio of the first acid to the second acid is preferably 1: 9 to 7: 3 by weight. If this ratio is less than 1: 9 (that is, if the amount of the first acid is relatively too small), the anhydrosugar alcohol production rate may decrease, and if it exceeds 7: 3 (that is, the amount of the first acid is relatively Too much) may result in a greater production of saccharide polymers.
- the amount of acid catalyst used is preferably 0.5 to 10 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of hydrogenated sugar (eg, hexitol). If the amount of the acid catalyst is less than 0.5 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight per hydrogenation conversion time to anhydrosugar alcohol may be too long, if more than 10 parts by weight there may be a problem that the production of saccharide polymer is increased and the conversion rate is lowered.
- the step of converting hydrogenated sugars to anhydrosugar alcohols may be carried out for 1 to 10 hours at a temperature condition of 105 to 190 ° C. and a pressure condition of 1 to 100 mmHg in the presence of an acid catalyst as described above. But it is not necessarily limited thereto.

- isosorbide is particularly high in industrial and medical applications.
- Step (2) In the method for producing anhydrosugar alcohol of the present invention, the reaction resultant of step (1) is then distilled off.
- the distillation is preferably a temperature condition of 100 to 250 ° C, more preferably 100 to 200 ° C, even more preferably 110 to 170 ° C, and preferably 10 mmHg or less (eg, 0.0001 to 10 mmHg, more specifically Is 0.0001 to 8 mmHg), more preferably 5 mmHg or less (eg, 0.001 to 5 mmHg), even more preferably 1 mmHg or less (eg, 0.01 to 1 mmHg, more specifically 0.01 to 0.8 mmHg) Can be performed under conditions.
- 10 mmHg or less eg, 0.0001 to 10 mmHg, more specifically Is 0.0001 to 8 mmHg
- 5 mmHg or less eg, 0.001 to 5 mmHg
- 1 mmHg or less eg, 0.01 to 1 mmHg, more specifically 0.01 to 0.8 mmHg
- distillation temperature is less than 100 ° C, distillation of the anhydrosugar alcohol is not performed well, and if it exceeds 250 ° C, the purity of the anhydrosugar alcohol is lowered, the color becomes darker, and it becomes difficult to discolor.
- the distillation pressure is higher than 10 mmHg, in order to distill the anhydrosugar alcohol, the distillation temperature must be increased, in which case the above problems may occur.
- an additional high vacuum device cost is required, and since the distillation purity is also lowered, an excessively low distillation pressure is not preferable. Distillation can be performed through two or more steps as needed.
- distillation there is no particular limitation on the method and apparatus of distillation, and known methods and apparatus known in the art may be utilized as they are or as appropriately modified.
- a general condenser type distillation column or a distillation column distillation machine may be used, or may be implemented using a thin film distillation machine.
- Step (3) In the method for producing anhydrosugar alcohol of the present invention, distillate obtained as a result of step (2) is crystallized.
- the crystallization method and apparatus which have been known in the art for a long time may be utilized as it is or by appropriate modification.
- the anhydrosugar alcohol is dissolved in a solvent such as water, ethyl acetate, acetone, toluene, benzene, xylene, alcohol, etc. under elevated temperature if necessary, and then the temperature of the solution is lowered to precipitate anhydrosugar alcohol crystals.

- the kind of solvent, the amount of use and the temperature / cooling temperature can be appropriately determined according to the throughput and specific equipment conditions, and the temperature conditions during melt crystallization can also be appropriately determined.
- acetone is used as a solvent
- the weight ratio of the solvent and the anhydrosugar alcohol distillate is mixed at 10: 1 to 1: 1, and then the temperature of the solution is raised to 30 ° C or higher. After cooling to 0 °C to precipitate anhydrosugar alcohol crystals, it is separated from the mother liquor to obtain a crystallite (crystallite).
- the generated crystal mother liquor may be concentrated and recovered, and then mixed with the converted conversion liquid and added to the distillation process again.
- the distillation yield is improved to obtain an overall yield improvement effect.
- anhydrosugar alcohols that satisfactorily satisfy both high purity as well as ion content, pH, conductivity and color characteristics can be prepared.
- Adopting a process comprising the steps of this particular sequence can reduce the amount of material (eg, activated carbon and ion resin) required for the decolorization and ion exchange resin treatment, in particular, polymerization of polymers utilizing anhydrosugar alcohols It is possible to obtain an effect of properly adjusting the pH of the anhydrosugar alcohol which is an important factor.
- Step (4) In the method for producing anhydrosugar alcohol of the present invention, the crystallite of the anhydrosugar alcohol obtained as a result of step (3) is decolorized.
- the decolorization treatment may be preferably carried out by contacting the activated carbon with an aqueous solution in which the obtained crystallized anhydrous sugar alcohol is dissolved in water (for example, distilled water).
- the average particle size of the activated carbon is preferably 0.25 to 1.0 mm, more preferably 0.25 to 0.70 mm. If the activated carbon particles are too small and the average particle size is less than 0.25 mm, the decolorization rate on the column may be greatly reduced and the pressure in the column may increase. On the contrary, the activated carbon particles are so large that the average particle size is 1.0. If it exceeds mm, there may be a problem that the resulting ionic content and conductivity of the anhydrosugar alcohol becomes high, and the color becomes high.
- the contact method between the anhydrous sugar alcohol aqueous solution and activated carbon there is no particular limitation on the contact method between the anhydrous sugar alcohol aqueous solution and activated carbon.
- the method may be performed by passing an aqueous anhydrosugar alcohol solution through a column filled with activated carbon, or alternatively, an aqueous anhydrosugar alcohol solution and activated carbon may be added to a reactor, followed by stirring for a predetermined time.
- the decolorization treatment is carried out in such a way that an aqueous solution of anhydrosugar alcohol is passed through a column filled with activated carbon.
- the activated carbon one or more selected from the group of activated carbons obtained by activating plant-based raw materials such as wood and palm, and mineral-based raw materials such as lignite, bituminous coal, bituminous coal and anthracite coal can be used.
- the shape of the activated carbon particles is not particularly limited, and may be in the form of fine particles (for example, average particle size of 0.25 to 0.75 mm), particulates (for example, average particle size of 0.75 mm or more), and powder (for example, average particle size of 0.25 mm or less). It is possible. According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, fine particulate activated carbon is used. In order to increase the efficiency of activated carbon, activated carbon that has been pretreated such as washing may be used.
- anhydrosugar alcohols vary depending on the application. For food or pharmaceutical use, there should be no impurities present in the human body in anhydrosugar alcohols. In applications where optical clarity is required among polymer applications, it should not contain impurities that cause color development or coloring during synthesis and processing. It should also not contain impurities that undesirably increase or decrease the degree of polymerization or the rate of polymerization during polymer synthesis. In the present invention, the above-mentioned impurities can be effectively removed without fundamentally lowering the purity by decolorizing the anhydrosugar alcohol having a high purity through distillation and crystallization.
- Step (5) In the method for producing anhydrosugar alcohol of the present invention, the decolorized product of step (4) is treated with a cationic ion exchange resin.
- the cationic ion exchange resin treatment of the resultant of step (4) may be performed by contacting the decolorized resultant with the cationic ion exchange resin, which passes the decolorized resultant through a column filled with the cationic ion exchange resin. It may be carried out in a manner to make.
- the cationic ion exchange resin both strong cationic ion exchange resins (eg TRILITE-SCR-B) and weak cationic ion exchange resins (eg DIAION WK11) can be used.
- the strong cationic ion exchange resins are used.
- Strong cationic ion exchange resins are H form strong cationic ion exchange resins (eg TRILITE-SCR-BH) and Na form strong cationic ion exchange resins (eg TRILITE-SCR-B). One or more selected from) may be preferably used.
- Step (6) In the method for producing anhydrosugar alcohol of the present invention, the resultant of the cationic ion exchange resin of step (5) is then treated with an anionic ion exchange resin.

- strong anionic ion exchange resins are used.
- Cl form strong anionic ion exchange resin (eg, TRILITE AMP24) may be preferably used.
- the anhydrosugar alcohol when used in a process such as plastic synthesis, if the ionic content of the anhydrosugar alcohol is high, it is difficult to control the polymerization rate. Therefore, the ion content in the anhydrosugar alcohol is an important factor in the utilization of the anhydrosugar alcohol, but the conventional purification method was not able to reduce it efficiently. However, in the present invention, the ion content in the final result can be effectively reduced by performing a series of ion exchange resin treatment steps as described above after the decolorization treatment.
- the anhydrous sugar alcohol production method of the present invention may further comprise the step of concentrating or solidifying the anhydrous sugar alcohol solution treated with the anionic ion exchange resin in the step (6), if necessary. Through this concentration to solidification step, a flake or granule anhydrosugar alcohol product can be finally obtained.
