1.1.触感呈示装置の構成
図1(1)は、本発明の実施の形態1に係るタッチパネル機能つき触感呈示装置2の一部の平面図であり、図1(2)は、図1(1)に示す触感呈示装置2の、AAを通る平面での縦断面図である。
また、複数の第2の電極102のうち電流型触感呈示電極として機能させる第2の電極102を第3の引き出し電極105の単位または第4の引き出し電極106の単位で選択することができる。
更に、複数の第1の電極101のうちタッチセンサ電極として機能させる第1の電極101を第1の引き出し電極103の単位または第2の引き出し電極104の単位で選択することができる。
触感呈示装置2の制御部は、第1の電極101を、静電型触感呈示電極またはタッチセンサ電極として、時分割で機能させる。なお、制御部は後述するデータ処理部により構成される。
図2(1)は、図1(1)に示す触感呈示装置2における第1の電極101を、静電型触感呈示電極として機能させた状態の一例を示す図である。図2(1)に示す触感呈示装置2において、第1の電極101のうちの一部が正の静電作用電極111として使用されており、残りの第1の電極101のうちの一部が負の静電作用電極112として使用されている。正の静電作用電極111には規定の電圧が印加される。
図3(1)は、図1(1)に示す触感提示装置2における第2の電極102を、電流型触感呈示電極として機能させた状態の一例を示す図である。図3(1)に示す触感提示装置2において、第2の電極102のうちの一部が正の電流作用電極115として使用されており、残りの第2の電極102のうちの一部が負の電流作用電極116として使用されている。正の電流作用電極115には規定の電流が流される。
本実施形態では、第1の電極101が、タッチセンサのドライブ電極、タッチセンサのセンス電極、触感提示用の正の静電作用電極、及び触感提示用の負の静電作用電極として動作するように構成されている。もちろん、第2の電極102が、タッチセンサのドライブ電極、タッチセンサのセンス電極、触感提示用の正の電流作用電極、及び触感提示用の負の電流作用電極として動作するように、第3の引き出し電極105及び第4の引き出し電極106が構成されることも可能である。

本実施形態の触感呈示装置は、静電型触感呈示電極と、電流型触感呈示電極とが同一平面上に配置されている。このことにより、本実施形態の触感呈示装置は、静電型触感呈示力の低下を招くことなく、電流刺激による触感呈示と静電気力による触感呈示とが両立され、よって複雑な触感の呈示を可能としている。
2.1.アクティブマトリックス方式の構成及び動作
本発明の実施の形態1に係るタッチパネル機能つき触感呈示装置2は、パッシブマトリックス方式を採用している。これにより、複数の第1の電極101のうち静電型触感呈示電極として機能させる第1の電極101を第1の引き出し電極103の単位または第2の引き出し電極104の単位で選択している。また、実施の形態1に係るタッチパネル機能つき触感呈示装置2は、複数の第1の電極101のうちタッチセンサ電極として機能させる第1の電極101を第1の引き出し電極103の単位または第2の引き出し電極104の単位で選択している。更に、実施の形態1の触感呈示装置2の制御部は、第1の電極101を、静電型触感呈示電極またはタッチセンサ電極として、時分割で機能させる。

なお、実施の形態3に係るタッチパネル機能つき触感呈示装置2の製造方法については後で説明する。
実施の形態1乃至実施の形態3にて説明したように、触感呈示装置における静電型触感呈示電極、及び、電流型触感呈示電極は、パッシブマトリックス方式として構成することができるし、アクティブマトリックス方式として構成することもできる。更に、図10に示すように、静電型触感呈示電極及び電流型触感呈示電極は、無次元方式として構成することもできる。ここで、無次元方式とは、全ての電極にて、同じ電圧若しくは電流が印加され、どの電極も同じ触感を呈示する方式である。

次に、図9は、図6に示すような、静電型触感呈示電極と電流型触感呈示電極とが別平面に配置される触感呈示装置において、電流型触感呈示電極とタッチセンサ電極とが、及び、静電型触感呈示電極とタッチセンサ電極とが、空間分割若しくは時分割により機能を分割する際の、分割の組み合わせを示す表である。
図11は、触感呈示電極の組み合わせの一例を実現する触感呈示装置の構成を示す図である。図11に示す触感呈示装置は、図8に示す番号(16)の組合せを実現するものであり、更に、図10に示すアクティブマトリックス方式を使用するものである。つまり、第1の電極101が静電型触感呈示電極としてのみ用いられ、第2の電極102が電流型触感呈示電極としてのみ用いられるものである。図11(1)は、触感呈示装置の、第1の電極101、第2の電極102、第1の引き出し電極103、第2の引き出し電極104、第3の引き出し電極105、及び、第4の引き出し電極106の構成を示す平面図である。図11(2)は、図11(1)に示す触感呈示装置の(a)及び(b)における縦断面図である。図11(3)は、データ処理部50、静電触感ドライバ部52、及び電流触感ドライバ部54を含めた触感呈示装置のブロック構成図である。
図13は、触感呈示電極の組み合わせの一例を実現する触感呈示装置の構成を示す図である。図13に示す触感呈示装置は、図8に示す番号(3)の組合せを実現するものであり、更に、図10に示すアクティブマトリックス方式を使用するものである。つまり、第1の電極101が、静電型触感呈示電極として若しくはタッチセンサ電極として空間分割で及び時分割で用いられ、第2の電極102が電流型触感呈示電極としてのみ用いられるものである。図13(1)は、触感呈示装置の、第1の電極101、第2の電極102、第1の引き出し電極103、第2の引き出し電極104、第3の引き出し電極105、及び、第4の引き出し電極106の構成を示す平面図である。図13(2)は、図13(1)に示す触感呈示装置の(a)及び(b)における縦断面図である。図13(3)は、データ処理部50、静電触感ドライバ部52、電流触感ドライバ部54、及び静電接触検知部60を含めた触感呈示装置のブロック構成図である。
本発明の実施の形態に係る触感呈示装置の製造方法について説明する。
図15A及び図15B並びに図16A及び図16Bは、静電型触感呈示電極と電流型触感呈示電極とが同一平面に配置される触感呈示装置であって、電流型触感呈示電極と静電型触感呈示電極とが何れも専用電極として機能する触感呈示装置の製造方法の概略を示している(図8に示す表の番号(16)参照)。なお、図15A及び図16Aは、第1の電極101に接続するビア202を通る縦断面での縦断面図を示しており、図15B及び図16Bは、第2の電極102に接続するビア202を通る縦断面での縦断面図を示している(但し、図15A(j’)は、第2の電極102に接続するビア202を通る縦断面での縦断面図を示しており、図16A(g’)は、第1の電極101に接続するビア202を通る縦断面での縦断面図を示している)。
図17A及び図17B並びに図18A及び図18Bは、静電型触感呈示電極と電流型触感呈示電極とが別平面に配置される触感呈示装置であって、電流型触感呈示電極と静電型触感呈示電極とが何れも専用電極として機能する触感呈示装置の製造方法の概略を示している(図8に示す表の番号(16)参照)。なお、図17A及び図18Aは、第1の電極101に接続するビア202を通る縦断面での縦断面図を示しており、図17B及び図18Bは、第2の電極102に接続するビア202を通る縦断面での縦断面図を示している(但し、図17A(j’)は、第2の電極102に接続するビア202を通る縦断面での縦断面図を示しており、図18A(h’)は、第1の電極101に接続するビア202を通る縦断面での縦断面図を示している)。

同一平面上に配置された、絶縁膜で覆われた複数の第1の電極と、

前記複数の第1の電極のうちの一部の第1の電極に時間的に変化する第2の電圧を印加し、その状態において残りの第1の電極のうちの少なくとも一部の第1の電極に生じる電圧を検出し、検出した電圧に基づいて自装置近傍に存在する誘電体の位置を検出する第3の動作と、
前記第1の動作とを、時分割で又は空間分割で行ってもよい。
前記制御部が、
前記複数の第2の電極のうちの一部の第2の電極に時間的に変化する第3の電圧を印加し、その状態において残りの第2の電極のうちの少なくとも一部の第2の電極に生じる電圧を検出し、検出した電圧に基づいて自装置近傍に存在する誘電体の位置を検出する第4の動作と、
前記第2の動作とを、時分割で又は空間分割で行ってもよい。

前記複数の第1の電極のうちの一部の第1の電極に時間的に変化する第1の電圧を印加し、その一部の第1の電極により変化する電界を発生する第1の動作と、前記複数の第2の電極のうちの一部の第2の電極に時間的に変化する第1の電流を加え、その一部の第2の電極から導体を介して、その一部の第2の電極とは異なる第2の電極へ電流を流す第2の動作と、を並行して行う制御部と、
を備える
