Definitions
- the present invention relates to a retention device, a retention system between a female part and a male part, as well as a female part and a male part to ensure retention between a wear element or tooth and an adapter element or adapter used in excavating machines and the like.
- the female part which can be both a wear element or tooth as well as an adapter element or tooth bar, comprises, self-fixed or coupled thereto, a retention device that participates in the coupling with a pin of the female part with a male part, and avoid, in collaboration with said pin, the latter to leave its locked position, maintaining the fixation between the two pieces, male part and female part.
- the retention device can also be self-fixed to the male part.
- the coupling between the two pieces is, thanks to the components of the detachable retention system, so that it allows to remove the pin from the coupling and replace the female part or male part next to the retention device.
- Said retention device is formed by one or more joined tensioning elements.
- the present invention relates to a male part and a female part comprising said retention device coupled thereto, as well as to the retention system composed of the female element, the male element, the pin and the retention element.
- the present invention is of special application in the public works sector, such as excavations, and mining.
- Excavating machines and the like such as those used in public works and mining, are used to tear, move and load earth and stones. Normally these machines are equipped with a spoon attached to a mechanical arm. The spoon is provided with a blade or bevelled lip at a leading edge intended to influence and penetrate the mass of earth and stones. To avoid excessive wear of the blade and To help penetrate the earth, it is common to mount teeth associated with the blade that protrude along the leading edge of the blade. However, said teeth are also subject to wear and tear, so they must be replaced often, and also, depending on the work to be done by the machine, it may be desirable to change the type or shape of the teeth.
- a tooth holder which is fixed to the spoon blade in a more or less permanent manner, and teeth, so that each tooth is releasably mounted on the tooth holder by means of a pin.
- said pin goes through some holes of the tooth and a passage through the tooth holder in order to fix the tooth to the tooth holder, thus guaranteeing the connection between the two using a retention device to fix said pin in its mounting position preventing the pin get out of position when the machine is working and the tooth / tooth / pin system receives great efforts.
- a retention device that collaborates with the pin to keep the tooth and tooth holder together. Then, the pin can get out of the tooth bar and the pin and the tooth can get lost.
- the loss of a tooth and / or pin can be very important depending on their work place, and other machines, such as crushers, that work in the same place of production as the machine that uses the teeth can be damaged, such as mines or quarries.
- a retention device associated with the pin is used to prevent the pin from leaving its mounting position between the tooth and the tooth bar, which fixes the pin in said position of its assembly.
- the retention systems which comprise at least one pin and at least one retention device, usually have elastic characteristics, provided to the retention system by the retention device, so that the pin can be fixed and released without requiring its breakage. while allowing its introduction and extraction into the system in a simple way, preferably hammerless, that is, without the need for a hammer.
- elastic material retention devices such as rubber or polyurethane, since it has elastic characteristics that allow an easy disassembly system, without applying very high forces. These devices of retention are not useful for all types of work because in applications where the temperature of the material moved, excavated or torn, the elastic material used is high, it can melt and / or lose its elastic qualities leaving the pin without retention, which could also cause a loss of the pin and / or the tooth.
- US Patent No. US3952433 describes a pin retention system.
- the pin is inserted into aligned holes formed by the tooth and the tooth holder and the retention device is provided with a spring-shaped clip that hugs the pin on both sides by fixing it to its mounting position.
- Said clip is encapsulated in an elastomeric element in order to keep said retaining element in position.
- Another feature of this retention system is that the use of a clip in combination with an elastomeric material, and the positioning of the assembly in the adapter element, makes the force to be used to mount and disassemble the pin is high, being necessary the use of a hammer and making it incompatible for systems without a hammer.
- the retention system described in US Patent No. US3997989 comprises a variable section pin and a retention system provided by two springs located in an elastic washer-shaped element.
- the two springs of the retention system have a straight area and a curved area of different section.
- Said washer with the two springs is positioned in a cavity in the adapter element, then the tooth is mounted and then the pin, so that the section of the latter causes the straight area of the springs to open compressing until reaching notches located in the pin, and when the notches of the pin find the straight areas of the springs, the latter are fixed in the notches preventing the exit of the pin.
- US patent number US3952433 the use of an elastic material prevents this system from being used in jobs where the temperature is very high.
- the force needed for assembly and disassembly is high preventing its use in hammerless or hammerless systems.
- the retention device, or washer is located in a cavity that does not secure its position except at the time of coupling between the tooth and tooth holder. Description of the invention
- a first object of the present invention is a retention device or retainer device according to claim 1.
- a second object of the present invention is a female part, wear element or tooth, according to the content of claim 14.
- a third object of the invention is a male part, adapter element or adapter according to claim 19.
- a further object of the present invention is a retention system between a female part and a male part for excavating machines and the like, according to claim 24.
- the retention device is composed of at least one tensioning element, preferably formed by an elongated body of a material with elastic properties, preferably with a circular section, which can also be square or rectangular, and which has a configuration that allows the self-fixing of the same by pressure directly to a surface of a female part or a male part.
- a male part said retention device is self-fixed to the outer surface and in a female part it is self-fixed to an inner surface.
- Said retention device which coincides with the tensioning element when said device comprises a single tensioning element, preferably has a U-shape in its self-fixing position, with two parallel straight sections joined by a third section.
- the two straight sections of the tensioning element are parallel to adapt to either the inner or outer surfaces of the female or male part respectively, said surfaces being slightly parallel to each other.
- Said tensioning element has two straight sections joined together by one of its ends by a third section and the opposite end of each straight section being free, so that it also has approximately U-shape, even without having been self-fixed to the piece female or male part.
- the distance between the free ends of the straight sections is different from the distance between the connecting ends to the third section, therefore the distance between the free ends may be greater or less than the distance between the connecting ends to the third section.
- the tensioning element When the distance between the free ends is greater than the distance between the ends of attachment to the third section, the tensioning element is used to fix itself to a female part, in particular to the cavity of said female part. On the other hand, when the distance between the free ends is less than the distance between the ends of union to the third section, the tensioning element is suitable for self-fixing to a male part.
- the above requires the existence of inclination between the two straight sections and the third section, the angle formed by the two straight sections with the horizontal of the third section being able to vary preferably between 1 and 5 degrees, hence the appearance of the tensioning element is approximately U-shaped, since the inclination is small. However, this inclination may be adapted to the different circumstances and situations as required and may be greater than indicated.
- the tensioning element is preferably a steel wire with a circular section, although it can also be Teflon or a plastic material, the sections may also be square or rectangular.
- the female part object of the present invention which comprises a retention device, is a wear or tooth element of the type formed by upper and lower outer surfaces which diverge to an leading edge and two surfaces exterior, and comprises an internal cavity, with interior surfaces, which has the function of receiving a projection or nose of a male part or adapter element.
- the two lateral outer surfaces form with said cavity two walls being provided with at least one through hole in one of said walls and passing through it to allow the entry of a pin when the wear element is coupled with the adapter element.
- each of The side walls have a hole or through hole.
- the inner surfaces of the side walls coincide with the surface of the cavity of the female part.
- Said female part comprises a retention device, formed by at least one tensioning element, which is an elongated body of a material with elastic properties, which is self-fixed to the interior surfaces of the walls and / or of the internal cavity, and that it is positioned in such a way that it interferes with the at least one hole or hole located in the wall of the female element.
- a tensioning element which is an elongated body of a material with elastic properties, which is self-fixed to the interior surfaces of the walls and / or of the internal cavity, and that it is positioned in such a way that it interferes with the at least one hole or hole located in the wall of the female element.
- the male part object of the invention comprises a nose to be inserted into the cavity of a female part, said nose being crossed by a conduit intended to accommodate a pin during the coupling of the male part with a female part, and said said nose of a retention device, comprising at least one tensioning element, formed by an elongated body and a material with elastic properties, which is directly self-fixed by pressure against the outer surfaces of said nose so that said retention device interferes with at least one of the pin entry holes in the conduit.
- the nose is completely traversed creating a conduit with two access holes and in which the pin will be lodged through once the female part and the male part are coupled together. Sometimes the duct does not pass through the entire nose, that is, the duct does not have to be through.
- the retention system comprises a female element or tooth, a male element or tooth holder, a pin preferably formed by a body of revolution, and provided with at least one notch in at least one of its ends and a device for retention formed by at least one tensioning element, preferably formed by an elongated body of a material with elastic properties, such that the retention device is self-fixed with tension and in direct contact against one of the two pieces, so that the rotation of the pin allows the coupling between both pieces to pass from a retention position in which the retention device fits into the notch of the pin preventing both pieces from separating, to a release position in which the device leaves of said at least one notch thus allowing both pieces to separate.
- the surface adjacent to the pin insertion hole comprises two ramps of tilt opposite each other and concentric to said hole. These ramps serve to allow the pin to rotate in both directions when it must be removed.
- a pin composed of a preferably frustoconical body of revolution, although other configurations, such as cylindrical, are possible. Said pin is provided with at least one notch in at least one of its ends. Furthermore, said pin is provided in one of the bases of the body of a cavity for the introduction of a tool that allows the rotation of the pin for assembly and disassembly.
- the pin can have between one and four notches, placing them from one at one end to two notches per end.
- a retention device formed by at least one tensioning element that is self-fixed by pressure to the internal surface of the cavity of a female part or to the external surface of the nose of a male part due to its U-configuration crossing at least one of the holes arranged in the male or female part into which a pin will be inserted, and which preferably is located in a groove disposed on the surface, either of the cavity or nose.
- This retention device in some of its variants follows the shape of the cavity or nose. Said retention device can be placed well on one side of the piece, on the opposite side or both, but always crossing at least one hole through which a pin will be inserted.
- that piece to which the retention device is self-fixed has a groove that crosses or crosses said holes, interfering with them. The width of the groove in the area that crosses the hole is slightly smaller than the diameter of the hole.
- the retention device is self-fixed, due to its configuration and elastic properties, directly to a surface of a female or male part.
- self-fixation it is understood that the retention device is capable of fixing to the surface without the need of any other component or additional element, solely and exclusively due to the geometric configuration of the tensioning element or elements, with elongated bodies, which make up the retention device and the elastic properties of the material in which it is manufactured.
- the fact that the device is self-fixed directly to a surface means that the device is in direct contact with said surface, that is, there is no intermediate element or component between the device and the surface.
- constructions in the parts, or elements in the device itself which facilitate or collaborate with said self-fixing.
- An example of the above are the grooves made on the surfaces of the female part or the male part.
- the surface of the female part or the male part has a slot for receiving the retention device, it is located in said slot, in particular at least a straight section of the retention device is located in the section of the groove that crosses the hole that the piece presents for the introduction of the pin.
- the straight section of the retention device interferes, that is, crosses or crosses, the hole of the piece thus impeding the entry of the pin.
- the retention device composed of at least one U-shaped tensioning element, has as mentioned at least two straight sections with an additional section that joins both straight sections, and additionally one of said straight sections may have a splitting or bifurcation of way that determines a section with two straight and approximately parallel sub-sections. Said fork may occur on the two straight sides of the retention device. In this case, the distance between the two parallel straight sub-sections is smaller than the diameter of the hole thus interfering with it and with the entry of the pin.
- the retention device may comprise a single tensioning element or two tensioning elements joined together to achieve the geometries described above.
- the section of the tensioning element varies depending on the size of the coupling formed by the tooth and holder, that is, depending on the size and weight of the coupling.
- the distance between the free ends of the straight sections of the tensioning element is slightly greater than the distance between the internal surfaces of the internal cavity of the female part or slightly less than the distance between the external surfaces of the nose of the male part, thus allowing self-fixing of the retention device in the groove that runs through the surfaces of the cavity or nose, as the case may be.
- a small compression is required to introduce the retention device into the groove of the cavity and a small expansion to introduce it into the groove of the nose, so that when the pressure stops the retention device, by a spring effect, tends to open or close by pressing against the groove.
- the U-shaped retention device has a tensioning element with an extension of the straight sections, in this case parallel, by its free ends so that said ends are folded twice approximately 90 5 , taking shape of hook, so that it can be fixed by said ends and by pressure to the wall of a female part, said ends of the device being on the outside of the piece, that is, on the outside of the wall, and the two parallel straight sections joined by the third section, located inside the cavity.
- the separation between the free ends of the two parallel straight sections is smaller than the diameter of the pin inlet hole.
- the female part where this retention device is incorporated preferably has a slot for housing the device whose width is smaller than the diameter of the hole.
- the free ends of the straight sections of the tensioning element are separated from each other a distance similar to the distance that separates the inner surfaces of the walls of the female part or to the distance that separates the outer surfaces of the male part.
- This distance will be slightly greater in the case of use of the device in a female part and slightly smaller when used in a male part.
- the groove in the internal cavity begins its journey by crossing the hole located in the wall of the female part, reaching the bottom of the cavity and crossing said bottom or internal front wall until reaching the second wall lateral of said internal cavity opposite the first.
- the slot can also cross said hole.
- the retention device of this configuration works with the same mechanism as the previous one, because the distance between the free ends of the straight sections of the retention device is slightly greater than the distance between the sides of the inner cavity of the female part, so which requires that a small compression is required to place the retention device in the groove to introduce said device into the groove so that it enters, so that when the pressure stops the retention device, due to a spring effect due to its elastic properties , tends to open pressing against the surface of the cavity in the groove.
- the complementary form would be applicable for a retention device in a male part.
- one of the straight sections of the previous retention device, or both has a split or fork so that each straight section has two straight sub-sections parallel to each other with approximately U-shape.
- configuration can be done by a tensioning element or by two tensioning elements joined together.
- the parallel straight sub-sections interfere with the hole provided in the wall of the female part or in the nose of the male part. Its assembly in both the female part and the male part is similar to that described above.
- the retention device when the retention device is self-fixed to the cavity of the female part or to the nose of the male part according to any of the alternatives mentioned above, the cavity of the the female part in the nose of the male part, aligning the at least one hole of the female part with the conduit that crosses, at least partially, the nose of said male part. Once aligned, the pin is inserted through the hole of the female part so that said pin faces at least one straight section of the retention device that hinders the entry of the pin.
- This straight section of the retention device tends to open due to the pressure exerted by the pin, so that it forces the section of the device to expand to allow the passage of the pin until the section of the retention device faces the notch of the pin and is housed therein releasing the tension retention device exerted by the pin during its introduction, and thus keeping the retaining device relaxed and in a working situation.
- the female part and the male part are coupled and held together.
- Said female piece can be a tooth or a toothpick and the male piece will be complementary to the previous one, that is to say a toothpick or a tooth.
- a tool adapted to the base of the pin is introduced and the rotation of the pin is forced at least 90 5 , so that the at least one notch of the pin It also rotates and causes the at least one straight section of the retention device to move and exit the notch of the pin, whereby the pin can be removed from the assembly between the male part and the female part.
- the rotation of the pin causes both sub-sections to separate and leave their housing in the notches of the pin, thus releasing the pin and allowing the separation of the male part and The female piece.
- the pin, and therefore the aligned holes and conduits of the female part and the male part can be positioned vertically or horizontally.
- the retention device is self-fixed to the female part or the male part allows factory delivery of female parts and male parts with the retention devices incorporated therein.
- the coupling between the female part and the male part as well as the disassembly operation are carried out in a simple way without the need to apply strong blows to the pin that can be dangerous, while providing a coupling during the work that It is solid and reliable.
- This is possible, in addition to its constructive characteristics, because the dirt to which The device is subjected during work does not affect its operation, because the dirt does not interfere with the movement of the retention device.
- the pin preferably has a wedge-shaped section so that it is easily released from the channel leaving the interference with the wear device.
- a feature of the present retention device is that it can be adapted to coupling systems between an existing male part and a female part.

- This hook shape is used to achieve self-fixing of the retention device in direct contact with the tooth surface (1), and in particular, the retention device (100) is fixed at its free ends (104, 105) to the wall (6) of the tooth (1), so that said ends (104, 105) of the retention device (100) are located on the outer surface (61) of the wall (6), and the parallel sections ( 101, 102) are located in the cavity (3) of the tooth (1). Both parallel sections (101, 102) are separated from each other a distance smaller than the diameter of the hole (2) existing in the wall (6) in which the retention device (100) is fixed, so that both sections ( 101, 102) interfere with said hole (2).
- the length of the retention device (100) is sufficient to allow the device to be fixed to the wall (6) and interfere with the hole (2).
- the retention device (100) has a groove (4) on the inner surface (62) of the wall (6) that extends inside the the cavity (3), the width of said groove (4) being smaller than the diameter of the hole (2).
- Said groove (4) crosses the hole (2) and allows the retention device (100) to enter it, being necessary to compress the retention device (100) slightly, since the distance between the straight sections (101) and 102) is slightly larger than the width of the groove (4)
- the cavity (3) of the tooth is slid in the nose of the tooth holder (10), after the retention device (100) has been self-fixed in the tooth (1) as it mentioned above.
- the retention device (100) is located between the surfaces (1 1 1, 1 12) of the nose (1 1) and the surfaces (62, 72 ) of the cavity (3).
- the pin (5) is introduced through the hole (2) of the tooth, which causes the separation of both parallel sections (101, 102) of the retaining device and allows the introduction of the pin (5) until at least one of said parallel sections (101, 102) meets the at least one notch (51) made in the surface of the pin (5) staying therein, being placed in a retention position where the coupling between the tooth (1) and the tooth holder (10) is adjusted by preventing both pieces from separating.
- a section of the coupling can be observed in which two notches (51) are observed made in the surface of the pin (5), so that each of the parallel sections (101, 102) are housed in each of the notches (51).
- the section of the pin (5) increases with the rotation of the pin (5) on its own axis because the distance between the surface of the notch and its opposite surface is less than the distance between the surfaces of revolution of the pin (5) , causing this section variation when turning the pin (5) with respect to the fixed position of the retaining device an increase in the separation of the parallel sections (101, 102).
- the surface adjacent to the pin insertion hole (5) comprises two ramps (91, 92) of inclination opposite each other and concentric to said hole (5). These ramps (91, 92) serve to allow the pin to rotate in both directions when it must be removed, sliding the stop provided at one end of the pin (53) over said ramps (91, 92)
- Figures 1 1 to 15 show a second preferred embodiment of a device (200) object of the present invention.
- Figures 13 and 15 show said retention device (200) comprising a tensioning element, elongated body with elastic properties, preferably of steel and with circular section.
- the device (200) is approximately U-shaped with two straight sections (201, 202) joined together by one of its ends by a third section (203), with an inclination of approximately 2- (a) between at least one section straight and the third section.
- the straight sections (201, 202) may have a small variation in inclination.
- the self-fixation of this retention device (200) is achieved by inserting it into the cavity (3) of the tooth (1) for which it is necessary to bring the two free ends of the straight sections (201, 202) together by compressing them to which are self-pressured against the inner surfaces of the cavity by releasing the two straight sections.
- the length of the third section (203), that is, the separation between the two straight sections (201, 202) by one of its ends is at least equal to the distance that separates the interior surfaces (62, 72) from the walls (6, 7) of the tooth (1), while the distance between the free ends of said two straight sections is greater than the distance between the inner surfaces (62, 72) of the walls (6, 7) of the tooth (one ).
- the retention device (200) has a groove (4) on the inner surfaces (62, 72) of the walls (6 , 7) which extends inside the cavity (3), being able to reach the bottom thereof, and the width of said groove (4) being smaller than the diameter of the hole (2).
- Said groove (4) crosses the hole (2) and allows the retention device (200) to enter it.
- a third embodiment of a retention device (300) is shown in Figure 18 in combination with Figures 16 and 17, which can also be used for the explanation of the fourth embodiment of a retention device (400).
- the third embodiment of the retention device (300) comprises a tensioning element, elongated body with elastic properties, preferably of steel and with a circular section.
- This third retention device (300) is approximately U-shaped with two straight sections (301, 302;) joined together by a third section (303) almost perpendicular to both straight sections.
- One of the straight sections is of greater length than the other, said section of greater length (301) presenting a splitting or bifurcation thus determining a section (301) with two straight and approximately parallel sub-sections (301 a, 301 b) with each other.
- Said two sub-sections (301 a, 301 b) are separated from each other a distance smaller than the diameter of the hole (2, 8) of the tooth (1), such that both sub-sections (301 a, 301 b) interfere with said hole (2, 8).
- This retention device (300) achieves self-fixation to the tooth (1) in the same manner as the second retention device (200).
- the tooth in this case can also include a groove (4) for housing said retention device (300).
- an alternative of the anterior retention device (300) is the fourth retention device (400) comprising in the straight section of shorter length (302), a straight section of the same length as the first (401, 402).
- both straight sections (401, 402) have a splitting or bifurcation thus determining two sections (401, 402) with two approximately parallel sub-sections (401 a, 401 b; 402a, 402b) with each other.
- the retention device (200, 300, 400) on a tooth bar (10), self-fixed to the outer surfaces of the tooth bar, as shown in Figures 21 and 22.
- Said holder (10) comprises a nose or projection (1 1) in its front part and means for fastening (12) to the dipper blade in its rear part.
- the constitution of the retention device (200, 300, 400) would be similar to those described above, with the difference that instead of having to compress them to be introduced into the tooth cavity, these should be slightly open to fit outside of the nose (1 1) of the tooth holder (10) exerting pressure on said lateral outer surfaces (1 1 1, 1 12) of the nose (1 1) of the tooth holder (10).
- the retention device (200, 300, 400) also crosses the entrance hole to the conduit (13) which it crosses the nose (1 1), said retention device (200, 300, 400) being placed in a groove (104) made on the outer surfaces (1 1 1, 1 12, 1 13) of the nose (1 1) of the tooth (10).
- said grooves are practiced at least on the lateral surfaces or opposite surfaces (1 1 1, 1 12) of the nose (1 1), crossing the entrance holes to the conduit (13) and more preferably also on the front surface or tip (1 13) of said nose (1 1).
- a tooth has been considered as a female part and a tooth holder as a male part, but it is possible to have a tooth as a male part and have a nose with a self-fixed retention device on it, as well as a tooth holder as a female part, presenting a cavity with a self-fixed retention device therein. That is, a female part is one that has a cavity and the male part is one that has a projection or nose, so that the projection or nose of the male part can be coupled into the cavity of the female part, regardless of whether This is a tooth or toothpick.
- a female part according to the invention is a tooth or tooth holder, for use in excavating machines and the like, with an internal cavity and with at least two opposite walls, each with an outer surface and an inner surface that coincides with the cavity, at least one of said walls having a through hole, and with a retention device formed by at least one tensioning element, such that the retention device is directly self-fixed by pressure against at least one inner surface of at least one wall with a hole, said element interfering with said at least one hole.
- a male part according to the invention is a tooth or tooth holder, for use in excavating machines and the like, with a projection or nose with at least two opposite or lateral exterior surfaces, having at least one of said surfaces a hole that gives access to a conduit that preferably crosses said nose, and that incorporates a retention device formed by at least one tensioning element, such that the retention device is directly self-fixed by pressure at least against the two surfaces exterior, said element interfering with said at least one hole that gives access to the passage that crosses said nose.
- a retention system for coupling two mechanical parts together, preferably for use in excavating machines and the like, in which the retention device interferes with a pin insertion hole and it is self-fixed by pressure and in direct contact against one of the two pieces, so that the rotation of the pin causes the coupling between both pieces to pass from a retention position in which the retention device fits into at least a notch existing in the pin preventing both pieces from separating, to a release position in which the retention device leaves said at least one notch pushed by the pin in its rotation and allowing the removal of the pin and the separation of both pieces
