Definitions
- the present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for cutting a sheet glass by performing local heating and cooling along a planned cutting line of the sheet glass.
- FPD flat panel display
- LCD liquid crystal display
- PDP plasma display
- FED field emission display
- OLED organic EL display
- organic EL is being used as a flat light source such as a backlight of an LCD or a light source for indoor lighting by causing a single primary color (for example, white) to emit light without causing the TFT to flicker the three primary colors unlike a display.
- the organic EL lighting device can freely deform the light emitting surface if the glass substrate has flexibility, the glass substrate used in this lighting device is also sufficiently flexible. From the standpoint of securing, a significant reduction in thickness (glass film) is being promoted.
- a method of cutting (or cleaving) a glass substrate used in these FPDs and lighting devices includes a scribe process in which a scribe of a predetermined depth is engraved on the front surface or the back surface of the glass substrate, and a scribe is performed after the execution of this process. Generally, it is composed of a breaking step of dividing the glass substrate by applying a bending moment so as to straddle it.
- thermal stress cleaving for a work made of a brittle material is performed by separating it into thermal stress distribution and crack expansion with the stress propagation speed as the upper limit.
- a full-body cleaving method is disclosed in which the formation of the temperature distribution is performed by a combination of heating by irradiation laser light and cooling by heat conduction.
- the glass substrate cleaving method disclosed in Patent Documents 1 and 2 is basically a so-called folding method in which a scribe is put in the surface layer of the glass substrate and the scribe is used as a boundary in the same manner as the conventional general method. Since the cutting is performed, there is a problem that the surface properties deteriorate due to the occurrence of microcracks on the cut end face.
- These cleaving methods require a step of forming a scribe using laser light irradiation and a refrigerant in combination, and a step of cleaving, so that the cleaving work becomes complicated and the apparatus becomes complicated. Causes fatal problems such as reduced sex and high costs.
- this cleaving method also has a drawback that it is forced to perform extremely difficult work if it is intended to cleave the strip-shaped plate glass that is continuously fed.
- the cleaving operation can be completed simply by causing the initial crack to develop by thermal stress and cutting the glass substrate full body (full cut). Can be expected to speed up the cleaving operation, and the cleaved end face can be made into a mirror surface or a surface property equivalent thereto, so that the cleaved end face can be expected to be optimized.
- the publication does not disclose or suggest what kind of aspect the glass substrate is supported, and lacks the concreteness of a method for properly performing full-body thermal stress cleaving. ing.
- the support mode of the glass substrate is an extremely important factor.
- the initial crack is developed by placing g and performing local heating with a laser or the like and cooling of the heating region with cooling water or the like from above as indicated by an arrow z. .
- such a method is a method that the present inventors have performed for a long time than before, and does not perform an act of publishing in a publication.
- the glass substrate g is in surface contact or substantially surface contact with the surface plate 20
- heat is absorbed by the surface plate 20 and sufficient local heating cannot be performed, and cooling is performed in such a state.
- the temperature gradient becomes insufficient and the thermal efficiency is deteriorated, there arises a problem that the accurate cleaving along the planned cutting line is further prevented. Such a situation becomes more prominent when the thickness of the glass substrate g is reduced.
- the cleaving method disclosed in these publications is a method for supporting a glass substrate, an adhesive layer or the like having high thermal conductivity is located in a region immediately below a scribe formation planned line of the glass substrate.
- a laser beam is irradiated to form a scribe on the surface of the glass substrate, the large amount of heat is transferred to the lower structure through the adhesive layer or the like (in the same publication, another glass substrate and a supporting member for supporting the glass substrate). Etc.). Therefore, even if the region heated by the laser beam is cooled, a sufficient temperature gradient cannot be obtained, and this causes a problem that the stress necessary for crack propagation for scribe formation is insufficient. Invite.
- the glass substrate is to be cut in a full-body manner in such a manner of supporting the glass substrate, an unduly large amount of heat is conducted from the region heated by the laser light to the lower structure, The thermal efficiency is lowered, the temperature gradient becomes further insufficient, and there arises a problem that it becomes difficult or impossible to perform full body thermal stress cleaving due to crack propagation.
- the plate glass support mode is appropriate, It is a technical problem to accurately cope with the stress shortage required for cutting the sheet glass and the deformation caused by heating and cooling.
- the present invention which was created to solve the above technical problem, includes forming an initial crack on the planned cutting line of the sheet glass supported from the back side by the support member, and then performing local heating along the planned cutting line.
- the plate The glass sheet is characterized in that it is supported by the support member from the back side through an elastic sheet having low thermal conductivity.
- the tensile stress (thermal stress) is generated as the heating region by local heating and the cooling region by cooling the heating region are scanned along the planned cutting line.
- the region also moves along the planned cutting line, whereby the initial crack propagates along the planned cutting line, and the plate-like glass is fully cut (full cut).
- the elastic sheet since the plate glass is supported by the support member through the elastic sheet having low thermal conductivity from the back side, the elastic sheet has a large amount of heat by local heating on the plate glass. Conduction to the support member is suppressed due to low thermal conductivity, that is, high thermal insulation.
- the glass sheet is cut with improved thermal efficiency, the speed of work is promoted and the productivity is improved with the synergistic action with the full body cutting. This is extremely advantageous.
- the elastic sheet existing on the back side of the sheet glass is deformed following this, so that the sheet glass is supported. This makes it possible to perform high-accuracy full-body cutting exactly along the planned cutting line.
- wound on the back surface of sheet glass are avoided by interposition of an elastic sheet, there is no possibility of causing the strength reduction of the said sheet glass.
- the elastic sheet preferably has a lower thermal conductivity than the support member.
- the elastic sheet can be an organic sheet (organic resin sheet).
- the material of the organic sheet is preferably polyethylene, polyester, polyamide, polypropylene, or the like, or a copolymer thereof, a polymer alloy thereof, or a polymer alloy of these and other synthetic polymers.
- the form of the sheet is preferably a foamed resin or a non-woven fabric, and a pulp sheet or the like can be used as the organic sheet.
- the organic sheet has a suitable elasticity for deformation of the glass sheet and a low thermal conductivity suitable for heat insulation to the support member when the glass sheet is cut full body by thermal stress. Therefore, the sheet as a sheet interposed between the plate glass and the supporting member can exhibit an overall excellent function.
- the plate glass is a belt-like plate glass that is continuously fed
- the elastic sheet is a belt-like elastic sheet that is continuously fed together with the belt-like plate glass, Even if the planned cutting line extends along the feeding direction of the strip-shaped plate glass, and the strip-shaped plate glass is continuously cut in full body along the planned cutting line. Good.
- the said supporting member is driven so that the said strip
- the planned cutting line can be present (virtually present) at a position where the strip-shaped plate-like glass is continuously divided at an arbitrary portion in the width direction.
- the strip-shaped plate glass can be divided at an arbitrary portion in the width direction (direction orthogonal to the feed direction), from the strip-shaped plate glass having a long width dimension. It becomes possible to obtain a plurality of strip-shaped glass sheets having a desired width direction dimension. Accordingly, it is possible to quickly and efficiently manufacture a sheet glass having a width according to a demand while enhancing the forming ability of the band-shaped sheet glass in the forming apparatus.
- the planned cutting line may be present at a position where the ears formed at both ends in the width direction of the strip-shaped plate glass are continuously cut.
- the strip-shaped glass sheet that is continuously fed may be a strip-shaped glass sheet that has been cooled through the slow cooling zone of the molding apparatus. it can.
- the strip-shaped plate-like glass is continuously fed through a series of continuous forming processes in which the molten glass is formed by the forming apparatus and then cooled through the slow cooling zone.
- the plate-like glass is continuously subjected to full body cutting with local heating and cooling.
- the molding apparatus is preferably an apparatus capable of performing a downdraw method, particularly an overflow downdraw method.
- a feasible molding apparatus such as the float method is not excluded.
- the strip-like plate glass that is continuously fed is continuously cut into a full body along the planned cutting line while being rolled around the core. It can also be configured to be wound.
- the band-shaped plate-shaped glass after the ears have been excised, or the respective band-shaped plate-shaped glass divided so that the width-direction dimension becomes a desired dimension are wound. Since it is wound around the core in a roll shape, it becomes possible to store and package the strip-shaped thin plate glass in a compact and easy manner.
- the elastic sheet may be cut along with full-body cutting of the sheet glass.
- the belt-like plate-like glass continuously fed is continuously full-body cut along the planned cutting line and wound around the core in a roll shape
- the belt-like plate It is preferable that the belt-shaped elastic sheet cut along with the full-body cutting of the glass sheet is wound up in a roll around the core in a state where the sheet-shaped elastic sheet is stacked on the belt-shaped glass sheet.
- the band-shaped plate glass is protected by the band-shaped elastic sheet (for example, an organic sheet), which can contribute to prevention of scratches due to contact between the plate-shaped glasses.
- the band-shaped elastic sheet for example, an organic sheet
- the plate-shaped glass wound body obtained by winding in this way the band-shaped elastic sheet can also serve as a buffer material for the band-shaped plate-shaped glass, handling during packing and transport It has excellent properties and impact relaxation properties.
- a pressing member that is disposed to face the support member and sandwich the plate glass with the support member may be disposed on the surface side of the plate glass.
- the pressing member can be substantially the same member and the same structure as the supporting member, and an elastic sheet having low thermal conductivity between the pressing member and the sheet glass. It is preferable to interpose.
- the thickness of the plate glass is preferably 200 ⁇ m or less.
- the problem in the case where the scribing is engraved on the glass film having a thickness of 200 ⁇ m or less can be solved all at once by the above-described method according to the present invention. It is possible to obtain a high-quality glass sheet having a high bending strength as a thin plate glass.
- the glass film is restrained by adsorption or friction on the support surface of the support member because an elastic sheet is interposed on the back side of the glass film. Therefore, the glass film can be expanded to the maximum by local heating, and can be contracted to the maximum by subsequent cooling.
- the difference between expansion and contraction is the cause of the tensile stress that causes the initial crack to propagate and perform full-body cutting. Therefore, the maximum tensile stress generated by extremely efficient heating and cooling is effectively utilized.
- the glass film can be cut.
- the local heating is preferably performed by a carbon dioxide laser.
- the glass can efficiently absorb the laser energy, so that it can be easily and stably localized. Heating can be performed and the cost is low.
- This plate-like glass (glass film) has a high bending strength at its cut surface, so it can withstand strong tensile stress due to bending with a small radius of curvature and can be used over a wider range than before. At the same time, it is excellent in handleability.
- the above method it is possible to obtain a plate glass in which at least one side is cut and the bending strength of the cut surface is 200 MPa or more and the thickness is 200 ⁇ m or less.
- this plate-like glass (glass film) has a bending strength of the cut surface of 200 MPa or more, it can reliably withstand stronger tensile stress due to bending with a smaller radius of curvature and the like, and has a high value of 200 MPa or more.
- the handling of this sheet glass can be embodied in an appropriate manner.

- the device according to the present invention forms an initial crack on the planned cutting line of the glass sheet supported from the back side by the support member, and then along the planned cutting line.
- the plate-like glass is configured to be cut through the full body by causing the initial crack to propagate from the front surface to the back surface due to stress generated due to local heating and cooling to the heating region.
- the plate glass cutting apparatus is characterized in that the plate glass is supported by the support member via an elastic sheet having low thermal conductivity from the back side.
- the plate glass is supported by the support member through the elastic sheet having low thermal conductivity from the back side, a large amount of heat due to local heating on the plate glass is an elastic sheet. Is suppressed from being conducted to the support member due to the low thermal conductivity, i.e., high heat insulation, and thereby it is possible to sufficiently ensure a temperature gradient due to local heating and cooling, while increasing the thermal efficiency, and the plate shape Smooth and proper full body cutting of the glass can be performed.

- the thermal conductivity of the elastic sheet E is lower than that of the support member 2, absorption of heat from the sheet glass G to the support member 2 is preferably suppressed. Therefore, it becomes possible to sufficiently secure a temperature gradient due to local heating and cooling, and it is possible to smoothly and appropriately cut the glass sheet G in a full body manner while improving the thermal efficiency.
- the elastic sheet E existing on the back side follows this. Since it will be deformed, there will be no hindrance to the support of the glass sheet G, and high-precision full body cutting along the planned cutting line 5 will be possible. Furthermore, since the elastic sheet E intervenes to avoid problems such as scratches on the back surface of the sheet glass G, it is possible to effectively prevent a decrease in the strength of the sheet glass G.
