- the stacked piezoelectric actuator has an active part in which a plurality of internal electrodes connected to different potentials are stacked via a piezoelectric layer, and an inactive part located outside the active part in the stacking direction. No voltage is applied to the piezoelectric layer in the inactive portion during driving. Therefore, during driving, a large stress is applied between the active portion that expands and contracts due to the piezoelectric effect and the inactive portion, and a crack may occur in the piezoelectric body.

- the electrode material 105b having this three-dimensional structure is bonded to the base metal coating layer 105a at a plurality of contact portions by a conductive bonding material 106.
- the electrode material 105b having the three-dimensional structure can absorb the stress even when the stress causing the crack A is applied. Therefore, in the electrode material 105b, it is difficult to divide the electrode.
- the electrode material 105b having such a three-dimensional structure is not limited to the shape shown in FIG. 9, and a structure using a sponge metal or a metal mesh is also shown.
- Patent Document 2 and Patent Document 3 disclose a structure in which a reinforcing external electrode material made of a metal mesh is laminated on a base electrode.
- a conductive joining material 106 is used.
- the external electrode material for reinforcement made of a metal mesh as described in Patent Documents 2 and 3 is also bonded to the base electrode by a conductive bonding material.
- the bonding strength is not sufficient, and if thermal stress due to temperature changes during use is applied, the difference in thermal expansion between the piezoelectric ceramic and the electrode material made of metal results in reinforcement.
- the external electrode material may be peeled off.
- brazing method sufficient bonding strength can be obtained by selecting a brazing material. However, flux and the like may remain, and the reliability of the multilayer piezoelectric actuator may be lowered.
- the bonding strength can be increased.
- the multilayer piezoelectric body is locally heated to a high temperature. For this reason, a micro-crack is generated in the multilayer piezoelectric actuator due to heat shock, and the multilayer piezoelectric actuator may be destroyed starting from the micro crack.

And the first and second external electrodes respectively connected to the first and second internal electrodes and formed on the outer surface of the multilayer piezoelectric body.
- the laminated piezoelectric body has first and second side surfaces facing each other, and the first and second inner electrodes are drawn out to the first and second side surfaces, respectively.
- the first and second external electrodes are formed on the first and second side surfaces, and the first and second external electrodes include a base electrode and a stress-absorbing external electrode material.
- the base electrode is formed on a side surface of the piezoelectric body, and the first electrode is drawn out to the side surface.

- FIGS. 1A and 1B are a perspective view showing an appearance of the multilayer piezoelectric actuator according to the first embodiment of the present invention and a side view seen from the second side.
- the multilayer piezoelectric actuator 1 has a multilayer piezoelectric body 2.
- the multilayer piezoelectric body 2 is a monolithic piezoelectric body obtained by firing internal electrodes and piezoelectric ceramics by an integral firing technique.
- the internal electrodes 6 to 8 are alternately arranged in the stacking direction.
- the first internal electrodes 3 to 5 and the second internal electrodes 6 to 8 are arranged so as to overlap each other via the piezoelectric layer 2a.
- the piezoelectric layer 2a is polarized in the thickness direction.
- the first internal electrodes 3 to 5 are drawn out to the first side surface 2 b of the multilayer piezoelectric body 2.
- the plurality of second inner electrodes 6 to 8 are led out to the second side surface 2c opposite to the first side surface 2b.
- Appropriate piezoelectric ceramics can be used as the piezoelectric material constituting the multilayer piezoelectric body 2.
- the internal electrodes 3 to 8 are formed by co-sintering a conductive paste such as Ag or Ag—Pd paste and the piezoelectric ceramic.
- the laminated piezoelectric body 2 has a rectangular parallelepiped shape having first and second side surfaces 2b and 2c, an upper surface 2d and a lower surface 2e, a front surface 2f, and a back surface 2g.
- a first external electrode is formed so as to be electrically connected to the internal electrode edge portion drawn to the side surface 2b of the first internal electrodes 3-5. In FIG. 1A, the first external electrode is not shown.
- the second external electrode 9 is formed on the second side surface 2c.
- the second external electrode 9 is electrically connected to internal electrode edge portions 6a to 8a led out to the side surface 2c of the second internal electrodes 6 to 8.
- the external electrode 9 includes a base electrode 10 made of a metal film formed on the side surface 2 c and a stress absorbing electrode material 11 bonded to the outer surface of the base electrode 10. It has the same structure as the first external electrode.
- the base electrode 10 can be formed using an appropriate metal such as Ag or Ag—Pd.
- the base electrode 10 is an electrode film formed by applying and baking an electrode paste containing these metals.
- the base electrode 10 may be formed by vapor deposition, plating, sputtering, or the like.
- the stress-absorbing electrode material 11 has an elastic structure portion 11a that is elastically deformed when an external force is applied, and first and second fixing portions 11b and 11c. In this embodiment, it arrange
- the first and second fixing portions 11 b and 11 c are joined to the base electrode 10.
- the elastic structure 11 a is not joined to the outer surface of the base electrode 10. Therefore, since the elastic structure portion 11a is not joined to the base electrode 10, the elastic structure portion 11a elastically deforms when an external force is applied, absorbs the applied stress, and even if the stress is applied, It is difficult to break up.
- the elastic structure 11a has a metal mesh shape. Therefore, even if an external force is applied in the stacking direction or the direction crossing the stacking direction in the stacked piezoelectric body 2, the mesh portion is elastically deformed without difficulty. Therefore, even if it is repeatedly driven or a heat shock is applied, the elastic structure portion 11a is hardly divided by stress.
- the fixing portions 11b and 11c are linear portions extending in parallel to the internal electrode edge portions 6a to 8a exposed to the side surface 2c below the base electrode 10.
- the fixing portions 11 b and 11 c are provided so as not to overlap the portion between the internal electrode edge portions 6 a and 7 a through the base electrode 10.
- the fixing portions 11 b and 11 c are not necessarily provided at positions that do not overlap the internal electrode edge portion 4 a with the base electrode 10 interposed therebetween.
- the width-direction dimensions of the joint portions of the fixed portions 11b and 11c to the base electrode 10 have width-direction dimensions that do not reach both internal electrodes adjacent to each other in the stacking direction in the stacked piezoelectric body 2.
- the width direction dimension is a dimension in a direction orthogonal to the direction in which the fixing portions 11b and 11c are extended. More specifically, it is a dimension along the laminating direction of the fixing portions 11b and 11c.
- both the internal electrode 4 which is the nearest internal electrode and the internal electrode 3 or the internal electrode 5 adjacent to the internal electrode 4 are bonded to the base electrode by the bonding material of the fixing portions 11b and 11c. It means having a dimension that does not reach.
- fixed part 11b, 11c when the fixing
- the joint portion of the fixing portions 11b and 11c has a width direction dimension that does not overlap with both the internal electrode 4 and the internal electrode 5 when viewed from the second side surface side. That is, it means that both the upper edge and the lower edge in FIG. 1 of the joint portion are located at the bulk position between the internal electrode 4 and the internal electrode 5.
- fixed part 11d, 11e, 11f, and 11g are similarly arrange
- the stress absorbing electrode material 11 can be formed of an appropriate metal such as Fe, Ni, Fe, Ni alloy, Cu, or Ag.
- a joining method using a conductive adhesive, brazing or welding, a diffusion joining method, or the like is used as a method for joining the fixing portions 11b to 11g to the base electrode 10. Since bonding strength is sufficient and it is not necessary to heat to high temperature during bonding, it is preferable that bonding is performed by diffusion bonding.
- the multilayer piezoelectric actuator 1 according to the present embodiment hardly breaks from the crack.
- the first and second fixing portions 11b and 11c are formed so as to extend in parallel to the internal electrode edge portion 4a, and the dimension in the width direction of the joint portion of the fixing portions 11b and 11c is the above-mentioned. Therefore, even if a crack occurs in the multilayer piezoelectric body 2, a short circuit between the first internal electrode and the second internal electrode connected to different potentials is unlikely to occur. This will be described with reference to FIGS.
- FIG. 3 is a schematic partial cutaway front sectional view showing a state in which a crack B is generated in the multilayer piezoelectric actuator 1 of the present embodiment.
- the first fixing portion 11b extends in parallel with the internal electrode edge portions 6a to 8a and is positioned between the internal electrodes 6 and 7.
- the block generated in the multilayer piezoelectric body 2 is usually generated starting from the interface between the internal electrode, which is a metal material, and the piezoelectric layer. It is assumed that a crack is generated starting from the interface between the second internal electrode 7 and the piezoelectric layer as indicated by an arrow B in FIG. As shown in FIG. 3, the crack extends toward the side surface 2 c of the multilayer piezoelectric body 2 and divides the base electrode 10. In this case, as described above, even if a divided portion is generated in the base electrode 10, the discharge is not generated between the divided portions due to the presence of the stress absorbing electrode material 11 having the elastic structure portion 11a.
- the crack B occurs at the interface between the internal electrode 6 and the piezoelectric layer, and extends as it is toward the side surface 2c. Therefore, a short circuit between the internal electrode 7 and the first internal electrodes 3 and 4 hardly occurs.
- the weakest part is the interface between the ceramic layer, that is, the piezoelectric layer and the internal electrode. Therefore, when cracking occurs due to stress or the like, it is normal that cracking occurs at the interface. In this case, cracks are generated from the surface of the multilayer piezoelectric body, but when the reinforcing external electrode material is bonded to the outside of the base electrode, the cracks are difficult to occur because the reinforcement is reinforced. However, when the joint portion where the reinforcing external electrode material is joined to the base electrode is at a position where the joint portion is gathered at the edge portion where the internal electrode is drawn out, the reinforcing effect becomes high and the crack becomes difficult to break.
- the internal electrodes connected to different potentials are short-circuited, and the withstand voltage is reduced due to cracks.
- the dielectric constant is lower than that of the surrounding ceramic portion. For this reason, electric discharge easily occurs due to electric field concentration.
- FIG. 4 shows the lamination of the above embodiment except that the stress absorbing electrode material 111 having only a mesh-like metal portion is bonded to the base electrode via the bonding material 112.
- the configuration is the same as that of the piezoelectric actuator 1. Therefore, the stress-absorbing electrode material 111 has only one cross section shown in FIG. 4, but actually extends obliquely on the base electrode. Therefore, when the cracks C and D progress toward the joining portion between the joining material 112 and the stress absorbing electrode material 111, the first internal electrode 3 and the second internal electrode 7 are straddled like the crack D. There is a risk of cracking. Therefore, a short circuit may occur between the first internal electrode and the second internal electrode.
- the fixing portions 11b to 11g extend in parallel with the internal electrode edge portions 6a to 8a, the fixed portion is the internal electrode edge portion 6a. Extends parallel to ⁇ 8a. Therefore, even if a crack occurs, the crack extends toward the fixed portion, and it is difficult for the laminated piezoelectric body 2 to extend obliquely from the interface between the piezoelectric layer and the internal electrode. Therefore, a short circuit between the first and second internal electrodes can be reliably prevented.
- FIG. 3 shows a portion where the fixing portion 11b is bonded to the base electrode 10 via the conductive bonding layer 12.
- the conductive bonding layer 12 is a diffusion bonding layer, and is formed by heating and diffusion bonding with an insert metal interposed between the base electrode 10 and the fixing portion 11b. .
- the base electrode 10 is formed by applying and baking a metal powder-containing conductive paste, and it is desirable to use the same conductive paste as an insert metal layer for forming the conductive bonding layer 12 by diffusion bonding. In that case, formation by baking of the base electrode 10 and the diffusion bonding can be performed simultaneously. That is, a conductive paste is applied, the same conductive paste is printed on the conductive paste to form an insert metal layer, the fixing portion 11b of the stress-absorbing electrode material 11 is laminated, and heated to the baking temperature of the conductive paste. do it.
- both the formation of the base electrode 10 and the formation of the conductive bonding layer 12 can be performed by a single heating process. Therefore, the thermal stress applied to the multilayer piezoelectric body 2 can be reduced. In addition, since the number of manufacturing steps is reduced, the cost can be reduced.
- FIG. 5 is a right side view of the multilayer piezoelectric actuator according to the second embodiment of the present invention, and corresponds to FIG. 1B shown for the first embodiment.
- metal layers 22 and 23 extending in the stacking direction are formed on the base electrode 10 on the side surface 2c of the multilayer piezoelectric body 2.
- the metal layers 22 and 23 are formed by heating an insert metal layer formed on the base electrode 10 in order to perform the diffusion bonding. That is, the metal layers 22 and 23 are disposed in the portion where the fixing portions 11b to 11g are disposed in order to diffusely bond the first and second fixing portions 11b to 11g to the base electrode 10, and are diffused and bonded by heating. As shown in the partially cutaway sectional view in FIG. 6, the first fixing portion 11 b is diffusion bonded to the base electrode 10 through the metal layer 22.
- the metal layer 22 straddling the plurality of first fixing portions 11b, 11d, and 11e and the band-shaped metal layer 23 straddling the plurality of second fixing portions 11c, 11e, and 11g are formed.
- positioning at the time of diffusion bonding using the insert metal can be facilitated.
- the multilayer piezoelectric actuator 21 of the second embodiment is configured in the same manner as the multilayer piezoelectric actuator 1 of the first embodiment.
- the shape of the elastic structure part in this invention is not limited to this.
- a zigzag elastic structure 31 a having a plurality of bent portions may be provided between the first and second fixing portions 31 b and 31 c.
- the first and second fixing portions 31 b and 31 c are bonded onto the base electrode by the conductive bonding materials 32 and 33.
- a meander-shaped, ie, meandering elastic structure 41a may be arranged between the first and second fixing parts 41b, 41c.
- the first and second fixing portions 41b and 41c are bonded to the base electrode by the conductive bonding agents 42 and 43.
