Description
チオフェン誘導体の中でも3,4-エチレンジオキシチオフェンは固体電解コンデンサや導電性付与剤等の原料として実用化されている。
この3,4-エチレンジオキシチオフェンの製造方法として、3,4-ジメトキシチオフェンをp-トルエンスルホン酸の存在下、エチレングリコールと共にトルエン中で加熱還流させる製造方法が知られている(非特許文献1)。
この改善策として、得られた3,4-エチレンジオキシチオフェンを精製する方法もあるが、最終的に得られる高純度の3,4-エチレンジオキシチオフェンの収率が低くなる等の問題があった。

まず本発明の製造方法に使用する一般式(1)により表されるハロゲン化チオフェンについて説明する。
により表されるハロゲン化チオフェンは3位および4位の位置にハロゲン原子が置換したものであり、式中のXはそれぞれ独立し、互いに同じであっても異なっていてもよく、フッ素原子、塩素原子、臭素原子またはヨウ素原子のいずれかである。
これらの中でも反応性や取扱性の面でメチル基、エチル基、プロピル基、ブチル基等が好ましく、メチル基であればさらに好ましい。
例えば、反応前のアルカリ金属アルコキシドの全量を基準として、反応前のアルカリ金属アルコキシドのアルコール系溶媒に対する濃度が30重量%であり、反応終了時点のアルカリ金属アルコキシドのアルコール系溶媒に対する濃度が40重量%であれば、アルカリ金属アルコキシドのアルコール系溶媒に対する濃度が15重量%から50重量%の範囲内で増加するように実施したことになる。
この様に前記アルコール系溶媒を反応系外へ留去しながら、アルカリ金属アルコキシドのアルコール系溶媒に対する濃度を増加させて前記一般式(1)により表されるハロゲン化チオフェンと前記アルカリ金属アルコキシドとをアルコール系溶媒中で混合することにより、高純度かつ高収率で前記一般式(2)により表されるジアルコキシチオフェンが得られる。
メタンスルホン酸、ドデシルスルホン酸等のアルキル置換有機スルホン酸、
トリフルオロメタンスルホン酸、トリフルオロエタンスルホン酸、トリフルオロメタンスルホニルイミド酸、トリフルオロメタンスルホニルメチド酸等のハロゲン化アルキル置換有機スルホン酸、
カンファースルホン酸等の環状スルホン酸、
ベンゼンスルホン酸、p-トルエンスルホン酸、エチルベンゼンスルホン酸、イソプロピルベンゼンスルホン酸等のアルキル置換ベンゼンスルホン酸、ナフタレンスルホン酸、アルキル置換ナフタレンスルホン酸、アントラセンスルホン酸、アルキル置換アントラセンスルホン酸、アントラキノンスルホン酸、ビフェニルスルホン酸、アルキルビフェニルスルホン酸、ビフェニルジスルホン酸等のアルキル置換もしくは無置換のビフェニルスルホン酸、ポリスチレンスルホン酸、ナフタレンスルホン酸ホルマリン縮合体等の高分子スルホン酸等に例示される置換または無置換の芳香族スルホン酸が挙げられる。
前記一般式(6)により表される芳香族スルホン酸は、R3の炭素数が2~6のものが好ましく、具体的にはエチルベンゼンスルホン酸、プロピルベンゼンスルホン酸、ブチルベンゼンスルホン酸、ペンチルベンゼンスルホン酸、ヘキシルベンゼンスルホン酸、シクロヘキシルベンゼンスルホン酸等(各種異性体を含む)が好ましい。
一般式(4)
により表される化合物を反応系外へ留去しながら行う。
具体的には、例えば、炭素数が1~20の脂肪族一級アルコール、炭素数が1~20の脂肪族二級アルコール、炭素数が1~20の脂肪族三級アルコール、炭素数が1~20の水酸基含有ベンゼン環含有化合物等を挙げることができる。
前記芳香族有機溶媒と前記一般式(4)により表される化合物との共沸混合蒸気を反応系外で冷却することにより、前記芳香族有機溶媒と前記一般式(4)により表される化合物との混合液が得られる。
この混合液を水洗することにより、前記一般式(4)により表される化合物を除去することができる。
次に水洗後の混合液を反応系内に戻すことにより、効率よく前記一般式(4)により表される化合物を反応系外へ留去することができる。
一般式(5)
により表されるチオフェン誘導体への転化率が向上する。これにより高純度、高収率で前記一般式(5)により表されるチオフェン誘導体が得られる。
また前記グリコール類は水に溶解するため、反応溶液を水洗することにより前記グリコール類を反応溶液から除去することができる。
前記グリコール類は、エチレングリコール、プロピレングリコールであることが好ましく、エチレングリコールであればさらに好ましい。
前記水洗後の反応溶液の乾燥方法としては、例えば、前記水洗後の反応溶液を減圧下に加熱還流させ、共沸する水を分離除去する等の操作により実施することができる。
前記蒸留操作の際には、前記一般式(5)により表されるチオフェン誘導体とポリオール類との混合液から前記一般式(5)により表されるチオフェン誘導体を蒸留することが好ましい。
この蒸留操作の際に前記ポリオール類を使用することにより、蒸留残渣が反応容器内部に固化することを防ぐことができる。
前記ポリオール類は、数平均分子量が200~1000の範囲のものが好ましく、300~600の範囲のものであればさらに好ましい。
100ml四つ口フラスコにナトリウムメトキシド 21g、メタノール 72gを入れ(ナトリウムメトキシドのメタノール溶媒に対する濃度は、反応前のナトリウムメトキシドの全量を基準として22.6重量%)、アルゴン雰囲気下で70℃にて溶解させた。
実施例1の場合で3,4-ジブロモチオフェンの滴下終了後、メタノール 33gを留去し(ナトリウムメトキシドのメタノール溶媒に対する濃度は、反応前のナトリウムメトキシドの全量を基準として35.0重量%)、加熱還流を行い反応を継続した。ガスクロマトグラフィーにより反応を追跡したところ、還流開始5時間で3,4-ジブロモチオフェンおよび3-ブロモ-4-メトキシチオフェンが検出限界以下となった。
実施例1の場合で3,4-ジブロモチオフェンの滴下終了後、メタノール 40.5gを留去し(ナトリウムメトキシドのメタノール溶媒に対する濃度は、反応前のナトリウムメトキシドの全量を基準として40.0重量%)、加熱還流を行い反応を継続した。ガスクロマトグラフィーにより反応を追跡したところ、還流開始2時間で3,4-ジブロモチオフェンおよび3-ブロモ-4-メトキシチオフェンが検出限界以下となった。
[3,4-ジブロモチオフェンから3,4-ジメトキシチオフェンの製造]
200ml四つ口フラスコにナトリウムメトキシド 28.1g、メタノール 97gを入れ(ナトリウムメトキシドのメタノール溶媒に対する濃度は、反応前のナトリウムメトキシドの全量を基準として22.5重量%)、アルゴン雰囲気下で50℃にて溶解させた。
[3,4-ジブロモチオフェンから3,4-ジメトキシチオフェンの製造]
比較例1の場合でメタノール 72.3g(ナトリウムメトキシドのメタノール溶媒に対する濃度は、反応前のナトリウムメトキシドの全量を基準として28.0重量%)とした以外は比較例1の場合と全く同様に操作を行った。加熱還流を行い反応を継続したが、還流開始から9時間の時点で、反応溶液中の3,4-ジブロモチオフェン(DBrT)および3-ブロモ-4-メトキシチオフェン(Br-MEOT)のガスクロマトグラフィーの濃度はそれぞれ0.20%および3.29%であった。
先の実施例2と全く同じ製造方法により得られた3,4-ジメトキシチオフェンを用いて以下の製造を行った。以下に説明する実施例5~9ならびに比較例3~9についても同様である。
前記粗生成物の収率は6.78g(68.1%)、純度はガスクロマトグラフィーにより98.69%であった。
[3,4-ジメトキシチオフェンから3,4-エチレンジオキシチオフェンの製造]
100ml四つ口フラスコに3,4-ジメトキシチオフェン 2.01g、エチレングリコール 1.34g、p-トルエンスルホン酸1水和物 0.2gおよびトルエン11.83gを入れ、大気雰囲気下で加熱攪拌し、トルエンを還流させた。
実施例4のp-トルエンスルホン酸一水和物に変えて同じ物質量(モル数)のクメンスルホン酸一水和物を使用した他は実施例4と全く同様の操作を行い、反応溶液中の組成変化をN,N-ジメチルホルムアミドを内部標準としてガスクロマトグラフィーにより追跡した。トルエンの還流開始からの時間と各成分の濃度との関係を表2にまとめた。
,4-エチレンジオキシチオフェンを6.49g(収率65.2%)得た。この3,4-エチレンジオキシチオフェンの純度はガスクロマトグラフィーにより99.86%であった。
実施例5のクメンスルホン酸一水和物に変えて同じ物質量(モル数)のm-キシレン-4-スルホン酸一水和物を使用した他は実施例5と全く同様の操作を行い、反応溶液中の組成変化をN,N-ジメチルホルムアミドを内部標準としてガスクロマトグラフィーにより追跡した。トルエンの還流開始からの時間と各成分の濃度との関係を表3にまとめた。
実施例5のクメンスルホン酸一水和物に変えて同じ物質量(モル数)のメシチレンスルホン酸一水和物を使用した他は実施例5と全く同様の操作を行い、反応溶液中の組成変化をN,N-ジメチルホルムアミドを内部標準としてガスクロマトグラフィーにより追跡した。トルエンの還流開始からの時間と各成分の濃度との関係を表4にまとめた。

実施例5のクメンスルホン酸一水和物に変えて同じ物質量(モル数)の(+)-10-カンファースルホン酸一水和物を使用した他は実施例5と全く同様の操作を行い、反応溶液中の組成変化をN,N-ジメチルホルムアミドを内部標準としてガスクロマトグラフィーにより追跡した。トルエンの還流開始からの時間と各成分の濃度との関係を表7にまとめた。
[3,4-ジメトキシチオフェンから3,4-エチレンジオキシチオフェンの製造]
実施例5のクメンスルホン酸一水和物に変えて同じ物質量(モル数)の2-アミノ-1-ナフタレンスルホン酸一水和物を使用した他は実施例5と全く同様の操作を行い、反応溶液中の組成変化をN,N-ジメチルホルムアミドを内部標準としてガスクロマトグラフィーにより追跡した。トルエンの還流開始からの時間と各成分の濃度との関係を表8にまとめた。
[3,4-ジメトキシチオフェンから3,4-エチレンジオキシチオフェンの製造]
実施例5のクメンスルホン酸一水和物に変えて同じ物質量(モル数)のサリチル酸を使用した他は実施例5と全く同様の操作を行い、反応溶液中の組成変化をN,N-ジメチルホルムアミドを内部標準としてガスクロマトグラフィーにより追跡した。トルエンの還流開始からの時間と各成分の濃度との関係を表9にまとめた。
実施例4では100ml四つ口フラスコを使用した場合について説明したが、実施例8では300L反応槽を使用する場合について説明する。操作の手順、量比関係等は実施例4の場合と同様である。
図1は、3,4-ジメトキシチオフェンとエチレングリコールとを反応させる反応装置を表した模式図である。
メタノールとトルエンの混合液40はバルブ10、配管4およびバルブ11を経由して水洗槽5に送られる。
前記メタノールとトルエンの混合液40が水30と接触することにより、前記メタノールとトルエンの混合液40に含まれるメタノールは水30に溶ける。
前記水洗槽5の上層に送られた水洗後のトルエン溶液41が、送液ポンプ6により配管7および8を経由して冷却塔3に送られる。
なお、実施例8の場合には水洗後のトルエン溶液41を冷却塔3に循環させる場合を示しているが、水洗後のトルエン溶液41に代えて、水30を冷却塔3に循環させることもできる。この場合でも3,4-ジメトキシチオフェンから3,4-エチレンジオキシチオフェンを得るまでの反応時間を5時間以内に保つことができる。
実施例4の場合で得られた3,4-エチレンジオキシチオフェンの粗生成物を蒸留する際に、数平均分子量400のポリエチレングリコールを前記粗生成物の1/10の重量を加えて蒸留を行った。
100ml四つ口フラスコに全く付着物がなく、粗生成物の重量に対して93重量%の3,4-エチレンジオキシチオフェンを得ることができた。
次にこの3,4-エチレンジオキシチオフェンを水洗した後、再度3,4-エチレンジオキシチオフェンを蒸留したところ、この3,4-エチレンジオキシチオフェンの純度はガスクロマトグラフィーにより99.80%であった。
[3,4-ジメトキシチオフェンから3,4-エチレンジオキシチオフェンの製造]
実施例9の場合で、数平均分子量400のポリエチレングリコールに代えてプロピレンカーボネートを使用して3,4-エチレンジオキシチオフェンの粗生成物を蒸留したところ、ガスクロマトグラフィーにより、プロピレンカーボネートが10%程度混入していることが確認された。
次にこの3,4-エチレンジオキシチオフェンを水洗したが、ガスクロマトグラフィーにより、プロピレンカーボネートが3%程度混入していることが確認された。
プロピレンカーボネートに代えてエチレンカーボネート、スルホランをそれぞれ使用した場合も同様の結果であった。

Claims (13)
- 一般式(1)
(式中のXはそれぞれ独立し、互いに同じであっても異なっていてもよく、フッ素原子、塩素原子、臭素原子またはヨウ素原子のいずれかを表す。)
により表されるハロゲン化チオフェンと
アルカリ金属アルコキシドとを、アルコール系溶媒中で反応させる工程であって、前記アルコール系溶媒を反応系外へ留去する操作を含む工程により、
一般式(2)
(式中のR1およびR2はそれぞれ独立し、互いに同じであっても異なっていてもよく、鎖状のまたは分岐鎖状の炭素数が1~20のアルキル基またはアリール基を表す。)
により表されるジアルコキシチオフェンを得る工程と、
前記一般式(2)により表されるジアルコキシチオフェンと
一般式(3)
(式中のZはそれぞれ独立して酸素原子またはイオウ原子であり、Rは鎖状のまたは分岐鎖状の炭素数が1~20のアルキレン基または炭素数が1~20のアリーレン基を表す。)
により表される化合物とを、
一般式(4)
(式中のR1およびR2はそれぞれ独立し、互いに同じであっても異なっていてもよく、鎖状のまたは分岐鎖状の炭素数が1~20のアルキル基またはアリール基を表す。)
により表される化合物を反応系外へ留去しながら反応させる工程と、
を含むことを特徴とする、

(式中のZはそれぞれ独立して酸素原子またはイオウ原子であり、Rは鎖状のまたは分岐鎖状の炭素数が1~20のアルキレン基、炭素数が1~20のアリーレン基を表す。)
により表されるチオフェン誘導体の製造方法。 - 前記一般式(2)により表されるジアルコキシチオフェンを得る工程が、
(a)アルコール系溶媒中で前記一般式(1)により表されるハロゲン化チオフェンとアルカリ金属アルコキシドとを混合し、次にアルコール系溶媒を反応系外へ留去する操作、
(b)アルコール系溶媒を反応系外へ留去しながらアルコール系溶媒中で前記一般式(1)により表されるハロゲン化チオフェンとアルカリ金属アルコキシドとを混合する操作、および
(c)アルカリ金属アルコキシドのアルコール系溶液からアルコール系溶媒を反応系外へ留去し、次にアルコール系溶液中で前記一般式(1)により表されるハロゲン化チオフェンとアルカリ金属アルコキシドとを混合する操作、
からなる群より選ばれる少なくとも一つを含む、請求項1に記載のチオフェン誘導体の製造方法。 - 前記一般式(2)により表されるジアルコキシチオフェンを得る工程が、銅触媒の存在の下、反応前のアルカリ金属アルコキシドの全量を基準として、前記アルカリ金属アルコキシドのアルコール系溶媒に対する濃度が15重量%~55重量%の範囲により実施される、請求項1に記載のチオフェン誘導体の製造方法。
- 前記一般式(2)により表されるジアルコキシチオフェンを得る工程が、反応前のアルカリ金属アルコキシドの全量を基準として、前記アルカリ金属アルコキシドのアルコール系溶媒に対する濃度を15重量%から50重量%の範囲内で増加させながら、アルコール系溶媒を反応系外へ留去する操作を含む、請求項1に記載のチオフェン誘導体の製造方法。
- 前記一般式(2)により表されるジアルコキシチオフェンを得る工程が、反応前のアルカリ金属アルコキシドの全量を基準として、前記アルカリ金属アルコキシドのアルコール系溶媒に対する濃度が、反応終了時点で30重量%から50重量%の範囲である、請求項1に記載のチオフェン誘導体の製造方法。
- 前記一般式(2)により表されるジアルコキシチオフェンと前記一般式(3)により表される化合物とを反応させる工程が、
一般式(6)
(式中、R3は鎖状のまたは分岐鎖状の炭素数が1~6のアルキル基を表す。)、
一般式(7)
(式中、R4およびR5はそれぞれ独立し、互いに同じであっても異なっていてもよく、鎖状のまたは分岐鎖状の炭素数が1~6のアルキル基を表す。)および
一般式(8)
(式中、R6、R7およびR8はそれぞれ独立し、互いに同じであっても異なっていてもよく、鎖状のまたは分岐鎖状の炭素数が1~6のアルキル基を表す。)
からなる群より選ばれる少なくとも一つにより表される芳香族スルホン酸の存在下に実施される、請求項1に記載のチオフェン誘導体の製造方法。 - 前記一般式(2)により表されるジアルコキシチオフェンと前記一般式(3)により表される化合物とを反応させる工程が、
芳香族有機溶媒と共に前記一般式(4)により表される化合物を共沸させる工程と、
共沸した前記芳香族有機溶媒と前記一般式(4)により表される化合物とを冷却することにより、前記芳香族有機溶媒と前記一般式(4)により表される化合物との混合液を得る工程と、
前記混合液を水と接触させ、前記一般式(4)により表される化合物を除去する工程と、
を含む、請求項1に記載のチオフェン誘導体の製造方法。 - 前記一般式(2)により表されるジアルコキシチオフェンと前記一般式(3)により表される化合物との反応溶液とグリコール類とを混合する工程と、
前記反応溶液とグリコール類との混合液からグリコール類を分液除去する工程と、
を含む、請求項1に記載のチオフェン誘導体の製造方法。 - 前記一般式(5)により表されるチオフェン誘導体を、ポリオール類の存在下に蒸留する工程を含む、請求項1に記載のチオフェン誘導体の製造方法。
- 前記一般式(2)により表されるジアルコキシチオフェンを得る工程により得られた前記一般式(2)により表されるジアルコキシチオフェンに含まれる前記一般式(1)により表されるハロゲン化チオフェンの含有量が、0.05%以下である、請求項1に記載のチオフェン誘導体の製造方法。
- 前記一般式(5)により表されるチオフェン誘導体に含まれる前記一般式(2)により表されるジアルコキシチオフェンの含有量が、0.05%以下である、請求項1に記載のチオフェン誘導体の製造方法。
- 前記一般式(5)により表されるチオフェン誘導体が、3,4-エチレンジオキシチオフェンである、請求項1に記載のチオフェン誘導体の製造方法。
- 一般式(1)
(式中のXはそれぞれ独立し、互いに同じであっても異なっていてもよく、フッ素原子、塩素原子、臭素原子またはヨウ素原子のいずれかを表す。)
により表されるハロゲン化チオフェンとアルカリ金属アルコキシドとを、アルコール系溶媒中で反応させる方法であって、
反応前のアルカリ金属アルコキシドの全量を基準として、前記アルカリ金属アルコキシドのアルコール系溶媒に対する濃度を15重量%から50重量%の範囲内で増加させながら、アルコール系溶媒を反応系外へ留去する操作を含むことを特徴とする、
一般式(2)
