Abstract

　接地電極の先端部に貴金属チップが接合されてなるスパークプラグにおいて、当該貴金属チップの安定した接合状態を長期に亘り確保する。 　接地電極２７側の貴金属チップ３２は、当該接地電極２７の先端部分に直接接合されている訳ではなく、台座部５１を介して間接的に接合される。台座部５１は外周にフランジ部５２を有してなる円板状のベース部５３と、当該ベース部５３から突出する円柱状の突出部５４とを有する。まず、貴金属チップ３２を台座部５１の突出部５４に当接させた状態でレーザ溶接等を施して溶融部４２を形成し複合体を得、台座部５１のベース部５３を接地電極２７の平坦面に抵抗溶接により接合する。台座部５１のうち溶融部４２近傍の結晶粒の粒径が接地電極２７近傍の結晶粒の粒径よりも大きく、また、台座部５１のうちフランジ部５２の結晶粒の粒径が突出部５４の結晶粒の粒径よりも小さく構成される。
