Definitions
- the invention relates to a headrest for seats, in particular vehicle seats, which is arranged in the end region of a backrest and has a support and / or catch element made of preferably compressible material, the support and / or catch element being formed at least in two parts and having a first part, which is connected to the backrest.
- Headrests of this type are known in particular in vehicle seats and are an indispensable safety feature today which is intended to prevent injuries in rear-end collisions, for example whiplash injuries, by overstretching the neck area.
- Headrests are known which are formed in one piece with a backrest of the seat as so-called frame headrests.
- headrests are known which are adjustable in their distance from the backrest, so that they can be adjusted in their setting to different sizes of the people sitting on the seat.
- these headrests can also be adjusted in their inclination relative to the head of the person sitting on the seat in order to adjust the distance between the head and the headrest in order to optimally prevent the injuries.
- headrests are known which, due to their articulation on the backrest, are automatically movable in the direction of the head to be caught in a rear-end collision.
- Such headrests have proven themselves from a safety perspective. They are sufficiently comfortable even while driving. However, if the seat is used for relaxation during a break, it can be determined that the headrest is too far away from the head of the person resting on the seat, especially when the backrest is adjusted to the rear. The neck area is therefore stretched in the rest position, which can result in muscle tension.
- a generic headrest for seats is known from EP 1 142 753 A1.
- This headrest which is arranged in the end region of a backrest, has a support and / or catch element made of preferably compressed siblem material on.
- the support and / or catch element is designed in two parts, two cheek-like elements connected to one another being pivotable relative to a first part such that they laterally guide or hold a head resting on the headrest.
- the two cheek-shaped elements are connected to one another via a central web, so that overall they form a U-shaped element which can be pivoted about an axis of rotation which is arranged on support elements of the headrest which connect the headrest to the vehicle seat.
- a neck bed for a headrest which is designed in a neck and upper back supporting shape and can be used flexibly for all types of vehicles with and without headrests.
- This neck bed can be attached to the lower area of the headrest using a Velcro connection, for example.
- push buttons can be provided.
- the invention is based on the object of further developing a generic headrest in such a way that it offers both the necessary safety aspects while driving and sufficient comfort during a rest phase.
- the solution to this problem provides that the support and / or catch element is arranged on the first part such that it can be pivoted such that the second part is adjustable from a position congruent with the first part into a position arranged below the first part, in which the second part is arranged completely below the first part.
- a headrest designed in this way offers the known high level of security against the above-mentioned injuries in rear-end collisions, while in the second position, a comfortable relaxation posture by supporting the neck area with the second Part of the headrest can be taken.
- the first part In its area facing the backrest, the first part preferably has an axis of rotation on which the second part is arranged so as to be pivotable between the two positions.
- This embodiment has the particular advantage that the headrest is very easy to use. To take the rest position, it is only provided that the second part is detached from the first part and folded down about the axis of rotation, as a result of which the second part comes to rest on the upper section of the backrest, for example. In this position, the contact surface of the headrest is also doubled compared to the first position, which also results in an increase in comfort for the person occupying a rest position.
- the distance of the first part from the backrest is adjustable.
- the second part of the headrest can be connected to the first part in the position congruent with the first part.
- the connection of the second part to the first part can preferably be formed by a connecting device, for example designed as a Velcro fastener, the Velcro fastener consisting, in a manner known per se, of two elements, one of which is a first element on the first part and a second element is on the second part of the Headrest is arranged.
- a push button system can be provided, for example, which consists of at least two push buttons, which in turn can be arranged in the area of the two parts or on the one hand on the first part in the upper area or in the rear area and on two tabs of the can be attached to the second part, which tabs can be guided over the first part of the headrest in order to be able to connect the two snap button halves there.
- the distance from the first part can be adjusted in the position arranged below the first part. This adjustment option also serves to individually adapt the headrest to the person sitting on the seat during the resting phase.
- the first part preferably has a recess for receiving the second part, in order to form an overall headrest which corresponds to the customary shapes.
- the recess is concave.
- the second part has two main surfaces which have an essentially matching curvature and are convex.
- At least the second part consists of a compressible foam core and a cover corresponding to an upholstery of the seat.
- This configuration ensures the possible adaptation of the headrest to different upholstery in vehicles, so that, for example, retrofitting of already existing vehicle seats is also possible in a simple manner.
- this configuration can be adapted in a simple and cost-effective manner to different upholstery fabrics with, for example, different materials, such as leather, synthetic leather or fabric, and with different designs.
- FIG. 1 shows a backrest of a vehicle seat with a height-adjustable headrest in a first position in view
- Figure 2 shows the backrest with the headrest according to Figure 1 in side view
- Figure 3 shows the backrest with the headrest according to Figures 1 and 2 in a second, designed as a rest position in view and

- FIG. 1 to 4 show a seat 1 with a backrest 2 and a headrest 3, the headrest 3 being arranged on the backrest 2 so as to be adjustable in height by means of two rod elements 4 of chromed steel which are circular in cross section.
- the angle of inclination of the backrest 2 relative to this seat, not shown in detail, is variably adjustable in a manner known per se.
- the headrest 3 has a support and / or catch element 5, which consists of a first part 6 and a second part 7, the first part 6 being adjustable with the backrest 2 via the bar elements 4.
- the inclination of the first part 6 of the headrest 3 relative to the rod elements 4 can be adjusted to a limited extent.
- the first part 6 and the second part 7 are shown in a first position, in which the second part 7 is arranged congruently on the first part 6 of the headrest 3.
- a second position of the second part 7 is shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, in which position the second part 7 of the headrest 3 is arranged below the first part 6 of the headrest 3.
- the first part 6 has in its area facing the backrest 2 an axis of rotation 8, on which the second part 7 of the headrest 3 is pivotably arranged between the two positions according to FIGS. 1 and 2 on the one hand and 3 and 4 on the other hand.
- FIG. 3 which consists of a conventional Velcro fastener 9, which Velcro fastener is formed in two parts, a first element of the Velcro fastener 9 being fastened to the first part 6 and a second element of the Velcro fastener 9 to the second part 7, in particular is glued or sewn on.
- FIG. 1 An alternative connection device is shown in FIG.
- This alternative connecting device consists of a first button half 10 and a second button half 11, which is arranged on a flexible tab 12 at the free end of the second part 7 of the headrest 3, the first button half 10 being arranged at the upper end of the first part 6 of the headrest 3 is.
- the first part 6 of the headrest 3 has a concave recess 12 for receiving the second part 7 of the headrest 3.
- the second part 7 of the headrest 3 in contrast, has two main surfaces 13 and 14, which have an essentially matching curvature and are convex, so that the main surface 14 in the position according to FIGS. 1 and 2 lies completely against the recess 12.
- the second part 7 of the headrest 3 consists of a compressible foam core, not shown, and a cover corresponding to an upholstery of the seat 1.
