Definitions
- the object of the invention is a regulation mechanism for exterior mirrors of motor vehicles, applicable to mirrors of the type constituted by a support frame and by a support mutually attachable and fixed to the structure of the vehicle and by a housing attachable to the support, comprising regulating mechanism a base body and a cover, in which the base body is coupled to the housing, while the cover is coupled to the base body and is adapted to receive a mirror holder plate on which a mirror is mounted, all of which arranged so that manually or by means of a mechanical or electrical type control device, the user can place the mirror between any of the usual positions of use.
- the base body fixed to the mirror housing and the cover attachable to the base body of such mechanisms are described below.
- the base body has a generally spherical segment configuration with a closed minor base and with an open major base adapted to receive the cap as a kneecap, the minor base of the base body and the respective and complementary cover being provided. positioning means of the cover with respect to the base, and consequently positioning the mirror holder plate and the mirror with respect to the mirror housing.
- the base body and the cover are provided with damping means, consisting essentially of the elastic deformation of the base body by the cover, whose purpose is the damping of the vibrations given by the vehicle's driving conditions are transmitted to the mirror plate, vibrations that affect the stability of the image given by the mirror tado in the same and consequently hindering the driving of the vehicle.
- a known embodiment of means for positioning the lid with steering by means of a mechanical control device via cables is described below.
- the smaller base of the base body is provided with a perpendicular and externally oriented centered projection provided with means for fixing the ends of the sleeves of the steel cables of the control cables, while the cover is provided with a central portion provided with means for fixing the ends of the steel cables.
- the centered projection of the base body and the central portion of the cover are provided with respective and complementary support means, adapted so that the user's action on the control device is transmitted through the control cables to the lid, which, pivoting on the support means, occupies the desired position.
- the positioning means and the damping means are arranged in the base body and in the cover, which presents the drawbacks described below.
- the damping means operate under suitable conditions up to certain dimensions of the mirror holder plate fixed to the cover, from which the damping means do not adequately absorb the vibrations transmitted to the mirror plate for the vehicle's driving conditions, even when the vehicle is immobilized, and become under certain inoperative conditions;
- the adjustment mechanism for exterior mirrors of auto-mobile vehicles object of the invention comprises a base body attachable to the housing; a cover on which a mirror holder plate fitted with a mirror is mounted; means for positioning the mirror plate in relation to the housing; and vibration damping means of the mirror holder plate, given by the vehicle's driving conditions.
- the regulating mechanism according to the invention is characterized in that the positioning means of the mirror plate are arranged in the housing and / or in the cover, and because the damping means are arranged in the base body and in the cover or in the body base and on the mirror holder plate.
- the base body is provided with a through hole adapted for passage through the housing positioning means, a side wall provided with damping means, and a opening adapted to receive as a kneecap to the lid or the mirror plate.
- the damping means comprise, on the side wall of the base body, a plurality of grooves that, at the edge of the opening, extend perpendicularly thereto, forming a plurality of damping fins, while in the cover or in the mirror holder plate they comprise a damping extension adapted to support by pressing on the damping fins of the base body.
- the base body has a general spherical segment shape.
- the characteristics of the regulation mechanism for exterior mirrors of motor vehicles according to the invention described above, provide an innovative and very economical solution to the drawbacks of the known embodiments of regulation mechanisms in which the positioning means are arranged in the base body and in the lid itself.
- the fact that the positioning means are arranged in the housing and / or in the cover provides the advantages detailed below.
- the support of the cover on the housing allows the base body to exclusively perform damping functions of the vibrations transmitted to the mirror holder plate , so it worked nes of the positioning means of the mirror holder plate and of the vibration damping means on different elements; on the other hand, and consequently, the base body can adopt a configuration and dimensions in correspondence with those of the cover or with those of the mirror holder plate, allowing all this that the damping means act effectively in mirrors provided with mirrors of large dimensions, as is the case, for example, in industrial transport vehicles.
