Definitions
- the invention relates to a bicycle rack for roof mounting on motor vehicles according to the preamble of claim 1.
- bicycle carriers have become known in their design in that a swivel frame which receives the bicycle tires is arranged on the bicycle carrier and is connected to the on the Roof-attached beam is connected. This makes it possible to swivel the swivel frame laterally from the motor vehicle to load the bicycle carrier with a bicycle in order to bring it into a position close to the ground, in order then to place a bicycle on the associated swivel frame and to fasten it there. After the bicycle has been picked up, the swivel frame is then pivoted upward, so that the bicycle is positioned on the roof of the vehicle.
- the disadvantage of the known bicycle carrier is that only a single bicycle has so far been able to be accommodated by the swivel frame, so that only a single vehicle could be transported on each side of the vehicle.
- Another disadvantage is that the known bicycle carrier takes up a relatively large amount of space in the length of the vehicle, because the front and rear bearings of the pivoting struts are relatively far apart and the torsion bar spring mentioned is arranged in this space. So it will be a relatively large space on the Vehicle claims, which is connected with high manufacturing costs and reduced functionality (risk of tilting of the swivel frame when swiveling).
- the invention is therefore based on the object of developing a bicycle carrier of the type mentioned at the outset in such a way that a bicycle carrier which is suitable for accommodating two bicycles per vehicle side can be arranged in a narrow space with respect to the roof surface of the motor vehicle.
- the invention is characterized by the technical teaching of claim 1.
- a feature of the invention is that the bicycle carrier in its useful or functional state now essentially consists of a column, in which column the pivoting struts of the pivoting frame are received in the pivoted-in state, the pivotable ends of the pivoting struts preferably being mounted in a vertical strut, which vertical strut closes the receiving space in the column when the swivel linkage is swiveled in.
- the column forms a column housing in which
- Angled angles of 60 ° to the front up to an angle of 60 ° to the rear are possible.
- the column can be pivoted backwards or forwards on the roof surface of the motor vehicle.
- the entire bicycle rack can be fastened in an assigned basic rack, which basic rack is available as standard equipment for many motor vehicles.
- the column frame of the bicycle carrier is thus pivotally attached to such a base or load carrier, and this column can be folded forward or backward on the base frame when not in use. It can be provided here. ground that, for aesthetic reasons, the front and / or rear end face of the column, which projects into the airstream or faces away from the airstream, is correspondingly streamlined.
- cladding parts can be provided on the base frame which streamline the front and rear faces of the column when the column is pivoted in or folded in.
- the swiveling frame is pretensioned with a gas spring which works as an over-center spring.
- the spring presses on the pivot linkage in such a way that the pivot linkage is held in its lowered position in a spring-loaded manner.
- the swivel linkage is pivoted upwards, overcoming a certain spring force of the gas spring, until an over-dead center path is exceeded, after which the swivel frame is swung into its raised swivel position approximately parallel to the roof surface of the motor vehicle under the force of the gas spring.

- Figure 7 the side view of the bicycle carrier in the non-use position on the roof of a motor vehicle.
- a base carrier 2 is fastened on the roof of a vehicle 1 in a manner known per se, on which two mutually parallel holding rails 3 are mounted, between which the bicycle carrier according to the invention is pivotable.
- the bicycle rack is designed as a column 11, which can either be pivoted backwards in the bore 14 (axis of rotation) in the direction of the arrow 15, the raised position shown in FIG. 1 being able to be locked in a locking point 34.
- the column 11 can also be drawn forward around the locking point 34 in the opposite direction to that shown
- Arrow direction 15 are pivoted, the locking point for fixing the pivoting position of the column 11 is then arranged in the region of the bore 14.
- the bicycle rack consists essentially of two parallel struts 16, 17, of which the upper strut 16 is in an upper one
- Pivot bearing 29 is accommodated in the column housing 18 of the column 11, while the lower pivot strut 17 according to FIG. 3 is connected in a rotationally fixed manner to the upper end of a toggle lever 23 which is angled downwards and which is in a lower bearing 22 in the column housing 18 is pivotally mounted.
- pivot levers 16, 17 are each held at a mutual distance in upper and lower pivot bearings 28, 27 in the region of a vertical strut 10 and are rotatably supported there.
- the lower end of the gas pressure spring pivots on the upper end of the toggle lever 23, which can thus be pivoted about its bearing 22 via the action of the gas spring 20.
- the column housing is otherwise covered upwards by a cover cap 12 and is thus completely secured against contamination in the pivoted-in state.
- the pivoted position is shown in FIG. 7.
- FIG. 6 it can be seen that the parts which can be pivoted into the receiving space 36 of the column housing 18 are bent so that they complement one another, so that a space-saving construction in the column housing is achieved.
- the vertical strut 10 is formed with inwardly facing legs, between which the lower pivot bearing 27 in mutual
- the swivel struts 16, 17 are each profiled approximately C-shaped and are designed such that they can be swiveled tightly parallel next to one another into the receiving space 36 in the column housing 18.
- the vertical strut 10 also has lateral legs 26 which cooperate with associated stops 25 of the column housing 18 in order to seal the forward-facing recess 24 in the column housing against contamination.
- the column housing 18 is closed at the bottom by a base 30 which is fixedly connected to the column housing 18.
- the fulcrum 31 of the base 5 coincides with the fulcrum 32 of the column 11 in order to ensure an untilted pivoting of the swivel frame.
- the foot side of the column 11 pointing forward in the direction of travel is provided with a further cover cap 33 which is approximately pointed or arrow-shaped in order to ensure a flow around the column 11 while the vehicle is in motion.
- the longitudinal axis of the column forms an angle 35 to the vertical, ie the column is attached to the roof of the motor vehicle at a slightly inward inclination and, in the use position, can also be designed to be inclined forwards or backwards in the region specified above.
